Disclaimer: The characters and places in this story belong to the Archie Comics writers. No money/profit is being made. I don't own anything. Not even a cell phone these days. |
a/n: The first scene is my young friend Akanksha's (a devoted Jughead fan) and she had written it in a completely different context (and in a far better way) but then it kind of suited Beggie. I changed it a bit to suit Reggie. Although I have a different Reggie in mind for this fic, I hope I don't totally butcher his character. And yes, the title is her's too, yes Shakespeare's but hers.
I had started this story long ago. But then ran out of enthusiasm. But recently, I bought some new comics and am totally inspired again. I don’t remember what plot I had in mind then. But this one, I like better. I hope you don’t mind my language because my English isn’t very refined. But let’s try, for Beggie, ok ok?
Chapter 1
‘’Woah, dude, check her out.’’
His eyes travelled across the packed club, trying to find the newest chick his best friend, Archie, was interested in. He followed Archie’s gaze to a girl sitting on a bar stool all by herself. He raised an eyebrow at the fact that she was way too modestly dressed for Archie’s tastes. Him, being a guy, tended to gravitate towards skimpily dressed girls with more cleavage than brainpower. But as he looked closely, he realised just what attracted Archie’s attention. The girl was a classic beauty, something rare these days. She had beautiful chocolate hair, dark brown eyes, and soft full lips. She was dressed down in fitting jeans and a blouse, suggesting that she was here only for a drink. Before Archie even moved, Reggie knew that this wasn’t the type of girl to hook up with strangers.
‘It won’t work.’
If anything, that seemed to make Archie’s smile even wider. The boy loved a challenge.
‘Just you wait, my friend. Just you wait.’
He watched Archie swagger towards the girl. And ten minutes later, he watched him return with a slump of his shoulders and a frown on his face.
‘The name’s Veronica. Absolutely hot, but a prude little bitch. Won’t talk to me, look at me, or even answer a simple question. Way too uptight man, forget her.’
Reggie glanced at the girl once again. He couldn’t pass up an opportunity as beautiful as this. He saw a girl walk up to Veronica, and sit next to her. They engaged in an animated conversation, and from the other side of the room, Reggie smiled deviously.
‘I know where they live.’
‘Dude, what?’
‘I know where they live.’ Reggie repeated.
‘Who?’
‘The girl at the club. Ron-whatever. The one that rejected you.’ He mocked.
Archie’s voice was bitter. ‘So? You proposing we stalk her?’
‘We don’t stalk her. That’d be illegal. And cheap. And totally unlike us. Maybe not us but definitely not me.’ He grinned.
‘We visit their college, we befriend her friends, we gain her trust, and we get me in her pants.’
Archie smirked. ‘Not happening. She didn’t even look at me; she won’t even notice you’re there. She is absolutely arrogant, she might be beautiful but she’s also very, very aware.’
Reggie continued as if Archie hadn’t spoken. ‘They share a flat; Veronica and Betty, her friend and roommate. I asked around about her, she is innocent and trusting and she’d play right into our trap. She’d get us closer to Veronica, and she wouldn’t ignore me because I’m a friend’s friend, not some meaningless stranger.’
Archie shrugged carelessly. ‘Who cares? She was just a girl, mate. We’ll find another. I am not going through all that effort for her, and neither should you.’
Reggie knew that, but all his instincts told him that her, or something else that would happen, would be worth it.
Betty walked out of the college, her arms supporting the weight of four books and her eyes darting around looking for her friend.
‘Where the hell are you, Ronnie?’
She spun around to slam into someone.
‘Oh, my nose!’
‘I’m so sorry!’ They both exclaimed at the same time.
Betty looked up, embarrassed, into dark brown eyes of a guy she was sure she’d never seen before. You don’t just forget someone who looks like that. His hair was tousled, as if he’d just rolled out of bed. He looked like someone who just stepped out of a Mills and Boons novel, and he was talking to her! She should’ve taken that as a warning signal and turned around and ran away. But she didn’t. She was too good, too helpful, too sweet. Too stupid, she added in her diary later.
‘Do you want a tissue? I’m so sorry, I didn’t realise-‘
‘It’s fine.’ He looked amused. He raised an eyebrow at her antics and smiled reassuredly. ‘A tissue wouldn’t hurt. I look like I just got shot in the face.’
She suppressed a smile. ‘It looks pretty serious, you’d be better off visiting a doctor just to make sure. Are you new in town?’
‘I don’t think it’s necessary, and no, I’m not. Do I look like a lost tourist to you?’

Reggie smiled as he opened the text and instantly got out of bed. The dull day had suddenly taken an upswing. He didn't bother changing his cargos or polo and just picked up his car keys from the desk, stepped into his sneakers and left.
He didn't even have to check his reflection once in the mirror before leaving. He was effortlessly sexy and was blessed with a gorgeous face and admirable physique and he knew it. He would never bother dressing up or even as much as combing his black tresses; for his laid back, tousled look itself drew so much attention. Though he didn't mind roaming around the city in his tracks, his clothes screamed money. Lots and lots of money. His folks were one of Riverdale's wealthiest lots. And that was probably why they could never spare the time of their day for their only son and the sole heir of 'the Mantle Corporation' run jointly by his father and grandparents and the publishing house his mother owned.
As the tyres sped, Reggie's thoughts constantly wandered to the day he first saw Lodge. He'd soon discovered that she was the daughter of Riverdale's very renowned business tycoon Hiram Lodge and was almost as rich as the Mantles' if not more. Not that money ever mattered to him. But she had caught his fantasy.
As he reached, he slipped on his aviators and noticed Betty outside Pop's struggling with her umbrella and realised that it had begun to rain, cats and dogs. He stopped right in front of her and smirked seeing her jump back. He lowered the window and called her.
'Betty! Oi! Can I help you? '
'Oh! H..Heya! No.. it's just that this stubborn umbrella refuses to budge and am running late. But I'll be ok, thanks. '
'C'mon in. I can give you a lift. '
Seeing her hesitate, he stepped out of the car and went to her side. He placed his hand around her waist and opened the door and very gentlemanly gestured her to move inside.
But not before he could notice how his arm snaked around her tiny waist. He then hurriedly sat in too.
'Aah! Look at you. You're positively saturated in water' he exclaimed as he shook his wet head, in the process, the drops flying off on Betty. She involuntarily shut her eyes.
He couldn't help but notice how her black tee clung to her slender figure. He could make out the shape of her bra and had to tear his eyes off when he heard Betty talking.
'Thank you. But I don't want to impose. I just have to be there at my friend Nancy's right now. We're planning for my roommates birthday and it was urgent'.
Lodge's birthday party? Hmm.. he thought.
‘Now now Blondie. You don’t have to be all that formal. I don't mind driving beautiful girls.’
‘Beautiful? Me?’ she thought and kept staring at his face and noticed a droplet slowly trickle down his forehead and cheek, all the way down his Adams apple. She immediately felt guilty and focussed her attention towards her knotted fingers in her lap.
‘So? Now we turn left?’
‘Ya! The first house, that’s Nancy’s. Thank you so much. Really. Thank you.’
‘So, Blondie, aren’t you going to invite me to the party?’
‘Uhh.. You want me to?’
‘Not unless you don’t.’
‘No.. noo... please.. do come. It’s tomorrow evening. At the Royale Club.’
‘See you, then.Bye’ he flashed that million dollar smile.
‘Bye.’
