[NUADA'S POV]
His fiery golden eyes looked into hers in that moment that she looked away from the creature and his own were filled with such devastation and hurt that it took not only his breath away, but Nuala's as well.
He could feel it burning deep within him. The jealousy...the anger...the pain...and words still failed to describe the extent of his suffering that she, his own flesh and blood, had caused with that simple utterance.
He felt it then, her little infatuation with the strange, fish-like being. Felt the small blossomings of a romance that could never compare to their own...
And perhaps that was why it had blossomed at all. They loved one another equally. In the same dark, depraved way. The way that made their bodies want for each other when they weren't touching. In the way one soul felt the other through distance...through time...
Perhaps his sister just wanted to pretend ...just for that one moment, for just the blink of an eye in their immortal lives, that she could live without him.
Of course...she was wrong. So very wrong.
All of this was thought in the instant before he grabbed her arm up in the same strong, pale hand that had caressed her so lovingly in secret so - so long ago.
And he sneered at her, pulling her away from him, questioning how she'd addressed him in a harsh, disapproving voice he'd never used with her before. The same voice that had called out for her, had responded to her cries of passion nearly every night so many centuries ago.
Had she forgotten? Well. He had not. And he would make -sure- that she would soon remember as well.

She hesitated, mere ghostings of some vague emotion gnawing at her. Her eyes pulled tentatively away from the creature and met her brother's own two golden orbs, a mirror image of her own. As their eyes locked, the faint whispers of pain exploded into a sharp pang of emotion that wracked her body with its intensity; she drew in a shaky breath at the full force of his devastation.
An odd sensation, that—drawing from the mind of another who is not another, sharing in that bottomless, dark well-pool of emotion from which they both drew so deeply. An odd sensation, too, feeling rage and shame and disgust at your own actions, your own decisions—seeing your betrayal through another's eyes.
It was almost foreign to her after having spent so much time apart.
She thought of the creature again. The kind creature who had vouched for her so quickly, so emphatically, with no knowledge of her true self. Who trusted in her so openly that it almost allowed her to fool herself into thinking she could truly part from her brother's side. That she even wanted to do so.
Standing transfixed in the light of his gaze, her doubt grew.
From that creature came a feeling so open, so kind, so simple, so far from the burning, all-devouring passion that smoldered in her brother's eyes at any moment he looked upon her. Worlds away from that convoluted fire that scorched every inch of her body with its all-knowing glint.
And even while they had been so far apart, she could still feel him. Know him. From any distance, their soul—as they possessed but one soul between them—had given her some degree of comfort, some connection, but it had long since ceased being enough for her.
Away from his gaze, she could convince herself that she had the strength to do right by her father, to follow the path that would protect those who would never even realize they had been in danger. But here, under his domineering presence, her resolve seemed to fade. She feared the path he had chosen, she feared what he had become: power-hungry, violent, irrational... but how can one fear oneself?
Their eyes met once more, his grip tight on her arm just like before, and her mind fled to those blessed evenings when life had been simpler, when they had been able to selfishly indulge in one another with no thought of the world at large, so - so long ago.
Her brother's pallid face twisted into a sneering, grotesque mask as he jerked her away from the creature, chastising her with such disbelief and outrage that her face began to burn with shame.
And suddenly she no longer knew which path to choose.
