Summary: Sometimes lies are just as good as any truths. Connor’s POV
“”- Talking out loud
‘’-Thinking
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
“Connor, its different for you. Your dad didn’t even know about you. Mine did and left anyway.”
Poor Rayner, it was Father’s Day. A tradition we had since we met and despite Ollie’s return was that we spent it together, going out on the town, drinking, and complaining about being fatherless. (Well, technically Kyle does all the drinking while I just sit there sipping really bad tea until its time to call the cab service later on.)
But tonight we decided to stay in… although in retrospect that may not have been such a good idea after all. Rayner was on his third beer in only an hour and I pretty much given up trying to get him to slow down. Now I can only wait until he finally passes out so I can tuck him in and call it a night. From the longs of things, it won’t be all that long.
…. *Sigh* ‘Kyle…its that’s not quite true…Connor Hawke you are a coward, here is your best friend right in front of you bearing his heart and soul to you…and you can’t even tell him the truth. Why…do you honestly think by keeping Ollie’s secret that you are protecting him or…are you really yourself?
I know for over a year now that Ollie was there on the day I was born yet I still let everyone think that believe that Ollie didn’t know about me until Hal told him. Mother told me all about it the night her divorce from the arms dealer was final. Poor Mother, despite it being the right thing to do she never felt worse…that night after having too much to drink so she could drown her sorrows she confessed to me every failed relationship she ever had, from her first boyfriend in high school that only dated her cause he thought being black meant being fast and when she refused to put out he dumped her and spread rumors anyway to Ollie who she really thought was the one but in the end left anyway despite being so supportive all though the pregnancy. In the morning with that terrible hangover, she had felt so awful about telling me the truth like that. I told her it was okay, that since Ollie was gone and it was all in the past that it was time for me to move on from just worshipping the hero and finally seeing the man. At the time, that really was what I thought Ollie was gone and nothing good or bad would come out if the truth so I just let it be.
But than Ollie came back and I still having done anything…I guess …everything so far has been so good. Ollie is finally being a father, not just to me but also to Mia and Roy…I don’t want it to end and I’m afraid everything good will end if I tell…so I guess…being honest can’t be done.’
“Yes Kyle, your right I don’t understand. Ollie didn’t know about me but now that he’s back he is determined to make things right. And for what its worth, Ollie is doing a pretty good job.”
-End
