Blues at War (sequel to Shadowdancing)
Kal-El was furious. He flew at warpspeed to his adopted home of Earth, realizing too late what had truly happened. The Superman from Earth-Two deceived him into believing that Preus was developing a wormhole machine capable of tearing the fabric of reality. Out of respect he decided to investigate in Kal-L's behalf, the explanation being his 'weakened' state after battling Superboy Prime. When he got near the galactic rim he discovered no such machine, and Preus was nowhere to be found. /Bullshit./ Normally turquoise eyes flamed red in rage at the deception as he plummeted towards earth's atmosphere. /Whatever happened to his legendary honesty? He told me that lame story about Prime and gold kryptonite weakness. Like a sucker I fell for it...it wasn't until Wally told me over the comlink Kal-l disappeared suddenly along with Bruce./ Handsome features tightened in anger. /My ass. It all makes sense now! Parallel universes, parallel lives...his Bruce is dead and mine lives. It'll be a cold day in hell before he claims that prize./ The larger than life figure blazed like a comet through the night sky. **** Bruce lay boneless across the bed, getting a tender massage. Kal-l smiled, pleased with the reaction of his new lover. "Good?" "Yes...yes..." Bruce closed his eyes in bliss. "I can't believe I'm letting you do this, Kal. It isn't...I'm committed to Kal-El." Warmer than human lips kissed his feet. "In a sense you still are. After all, aren't we both Supermen?" "That's not what I mean and you know it." "I know." Kal-l pulled Bruce into an embrace. "Rao, you're hot. I loved my own Bruce, but...this is more. I plan to jump your bones every night." Icy blue eyes shot open suddenly. "What do you plan to do when he returns?" A shrug of powerful shoulders. "I'll come up with something." Bruce pushed off, momentarily clearing his mind of sensual haze. "Dammit. I've been set up! I'm not some shaking virgin wanting to be seduced by a stranger-" Kal-l twisted a small smile, leaning back on an elbow. "Your analogy is poor, Bruce. I never said or implied you were a virgin. And as for the shaking part...as long as you do it under me, I'm satisfied." "Really." Bruce stood to his full height, anger overriding pleasure. He snatched a sheet and tied it around himself. Kal-l laughed deeply. "You are so different, yet so much alike." "We're from different universes and nothing alike." Those bright eyes krinkled with amusement, admiring the dark knight's physique. "Give or take a couple of inches." Bruce didn't bite. "So you say. I never knew the man." Eyes eerily reminiscent of the younger Superman looked Bruce over. "True. My Bruce was more like steady, gentle warmth. You're a blazing fire. Hot, and consuming everything that comes close." Bruce made a move for the bathroom. "Now that we know I'm such a firecracker, I suggest you leave. As I told you before nothing can come of this." "Why not?" Bruce spun, face flushed. "You can ask that? I don't even know you. In my buisness, assumptions are dangerous without information." Kal-l paced toward him, flexing. Bruce forced his eyes up and...away. "Whatever our differences, I know you like what you see." "Your point?" Bruce backed up, defensive now. Keen eyes darted for some means of escape. "I won't hurt you, Bruce. My original plan was for us to work together again." "In one universe? What about my Kal?" "He's here!" an enraged Superman stood suddenly in the hallway. The other two men spun at the voice. Bruce went pale. "Dammit, this isn't what it looks like, Kal-" A large hand went up for silence. "I have enough of an idea what went on here, Bruce. We'll talk later, count on it." "It wasn't my idea-" "Why bother explaining, his mind is made up." Kal-l snapped. The younger Superman glared at his counterpart in open hostility. "You, me. Outside." "Anytime." "Get your ass dressed, or I'll break it off!" "An interesting threat, boy." the older Superman reached for his costume. "We'll see what gets broken and who wins." ****
Two hours had passed. Bruce paced the hotel room, his nerves frayed. He'd showered and dressed, declining to put on his costume. When his Kal returned he wanted to face him personally, not as the Bat. He gulped a small snifter of Brandy. /There's no way in hell I can justify what happened here. What if the other Kal hurts him? And more to the point, how do I stop this guy? Kryptonite from this world doesn't affect him-/ His musings were cut short by a familiar voice. "Bruce." "Kal!" Bruce turned, seeing his tattered lover standing through sliding glass doors. He approached in a rush, then pulled up. "I owe you an explanation, Kal. This was no excuse." "Give me a minute." Kal moved slowly, cut and bruised. His costume was nearly shredded in several places. Blood oozed from his left nostril. Bruce shook his head in dismay. "I'm not worth all this-" he dabbed at the bloody nose. Blue eyes registered disappointment and hurt. "Tell me, Bruce. Why?" "Please sit. You look like you're ready to fall down." Nodding wearily, Superman dropped down onto the sofa. "Now explain." With a sigh, Bruce edged next to him. "I got here at the usual time, around two. I heard someone whom I thought was you in bed. The lights were dimmed and a fancy wetbar was laid out." "He does sound similar to me." Kal brooded. "Go on." "Anyway, he invited me in. The room was virtually dark. I undressed and climbed into bed-" Kal cursed in kryptonian. Bruce looked away briefly. "We...had sex." Alien eyes flared. "You couldn't tell it wasn't me? The hell?!" Bruce ran a hand through his hair. "I thought something seemed off, but I...was caught up in the moment." Superman lifted to his feet suddenly, angry again. "Fool! So you got in bed with someone. Fine. What happened when you felt him and he touched you? Are you saying it was the same?" "No!" Bruce stood now, grabbing cable thick arms. "Just calm down and listen. I offer no excuse, other than I made a terrible mistake. I did notice differences, but it was too late to do anything about it." "What the hell does that mean, Bruce?" The bat tugged his lover back down."We slept. I woke up and turned on a lamp to read a bit. When I noticed his face and saw gray temples I freaked." "Oh?" "Yeah. I felt him up even before I saw the hair, noticing his facial structure being different. His build, barrel chested through the middle." Kal was sullen, folding his arms. "My clever detective, finally noticing." Bruce was getting angry now. "You think this is funny? It wasn't as if I could've stopped him-" A powerful hand reached out suddenly, as new awareness hit the kryptonian. "Wait. Are you saying...he forced himself on you?" "Yes and no. I got into bed with him only because I thought it was you. Had the lights been on I would have seen the trap, obviously. But once I was there, he wouldn't let me up." Kal cursed again. "Will you stop that?" Bruce implored, grabbing him once more. "It will positively ruin your boy scout image." "I could care less, Bruce. And I'm not in the mood to joke about it." "Nor am I." Kal rubbed his eyes in exhaustion. "I need to think about this." Bruce swallowed. "Clark. I never betrayed you. Not intentionally, not in my heart." "I know that, Bruce. But it still bothers me that things went so far before you noticed." Bruce sat back a little. "Kryptonite here doesn't affect the other Superman. What could I stop him with? He rattled on about 'his' Bruce and how we were different and the same." Kal stared in disbelief. "He did what?" "You heard me. I didn't know whether to be flattered or insulted. Ultimately, I think it was just an excuse to get in the sack. Either that or I was a substitute." "So he was on the rebound. If I see him again I'll break his neck." Kal fell silent again. Bruce pressed into his side. "Are you still angry with me?" Kal gripped a broad hand. "I don't know, Bruce. This situation is too strange and confusing. Maybe in a day or two I'll have a clear head." "Imagine how I feel. In a way I was raped but went along with it." "That's sick." Clear eyes hardened to blue points. "I'm angry at myself for not seeing the truth and getting used. For enjoying it and being afraid. For trying to survive instead of fighting back-" "Fight with what, Bruce?" "I should have come up with something." Kal shook his head, drawing his lover close. "Enough. We've both had a bad experience." The two men were silent as they sat on the couch, lost in thought. Bruce finally turned to his kryptonian, holding his face gently. "What happened?" "You mean the fight." "Yes. I see Kal-l didn't follow you back." Kal smiled fiercely. "He's in no condition to be following anyone." Bruce stared with his trademark intensity. "But how did it end?" "He may actually be stronger than me, but I have youth on my side. Endurance won out. Eventually we both realized continued battle made no sense, so he left." Bruce was suspicious. "Just like that?" "We were fighting over you." Kal considered a moment. "He isn't evil, Bruce. His history is legendary, almost myth." "I know." Bruce felt tired suddenly. "That's what made it even worse, what happened here." "He isn't a boy scout and neither am I." Bruce took in the bruises. "Let me take care of you, Clark." he kissed a swollen cheek. The kryptonian managed a smile. "You'll have plenty of opportunity to make it up to me later." "And if Kal-l comes back?" "Then I'll hurt him again. I bear him no ill will, but..." "What?" Kal grabbed his Bat. "You're mine, and I don't like sharing. Even under false pretenses." Bruce glared back. "I thought he was you, Clark. Keep that in mind!" "I will." Kal-l kissed his human hard, leaving him breathless. Bruce gasped for air in an unbreakable hold. "I take it then, you aren't as angry?" Wild eyes flared brightly. "Maybe not. Was he good?" "Ah...what?" "You heard me. Was he good in bed?" Kal's voice had an edge again. Bruce gritted his teeth. "Yes, very skilled. That what you want to hear?" "No." Kal swept up his human in a fireman's carry. "I'm going to get cleaned up, Bruce. Then I suggest you eat something. You'll need your strength." The dark knight forced himself to relax this time. "Is that a threat, mister?" he growled. "Take it any way you like it." "What are you trying to prove?" Bruce held the doorframe to the bedroom as Kal carried him through. The kryptonian gave a wicked grin. "Maybe I lied about needing time to think. It's time I taught you not to confuse me with anyone else." It was Bruce's turn to curse as he was dragged to bed.
