New Revised Version of ‘Other Than My Years’
I have more time to add details and decided to re-do the entire story! Kudos to me!
This is a [Batman x Cassandra] tale with some [Tim Drake x Cassandra]
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A dark figure could be seen running on the roof tops as lighting clashed together, followed by the rolling of thunder. A young batgirl crouched at the edge of the building, holding a small pair of binoculars to her eyes, her long cape blowing in the wind, raining pouring down onto her.
“Anything?” Came a dark foreboding voice.
“No.” She answered, not looking back.
Behind her was the man of every woman’s dream, including her own. He was strong, fierce, and dangerous. That was when he was in his mask; underneath he was the arm candy any rich and beautiful woman wanted. He was Batman and under that…billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne.
He looked down at the young girl, watching a single drop of rain trickle off of her cape and falling to the street below. Cassandra Cain, daughter of assassin David Cain and Lady Shiva, had grown into such a beautiful young woman. She was just as dangerous as he, being able to read people like a book certainly had its benefits.
She stood and handed him the binoculars pointing to one spot below. Batman held them to his eyes and moved in front of her. Their targets stood around The Stacked Deck — A seedy nightclub where the most notorious criminals in Gotham go to hide out sometimes. He handed her the binoculars and stood, nodding to her slightly. They both pulled out their grappling hooks and shot it out in unison. Batman went first, followed closely by Batgirl.
Inside the club women were dancing half nude, shaking their asses in men’s faces for petty change and one dollar bills. Batman crashed through the glass roof and onto the bar table which Carl Vanes was currently occupying. Women and people started to scream, making a run for the exits. Carl looked scared, he should be. His men attacked Batman, but were soon knocked unconscious around the bar. A woman at Carl’s side screamed and ran for cover. There was a noise and Batman let his guard down for a second, turning to see a gun in his face. He kicked it out of the way, grabbing the man by his shirt and throwing him across the way. When he turned, Carl was long gone.
Carl pushed past people, trying to escape. He made one wrong turn and fell. People around him scattered and he was left on the floor. Cassandra appeared in front of him. She noted that he was sweating profusely. He was tubby man with a really bad smell. She could tell he was hiding something. He got up and threw a punch in her direction; she grabbed the man by the wrist and hurled him over her. He crashed into a table and groaned, defeated.
Batman walked up to him, picking up him and slamming him into a wall.
“Where is Falcone?” He asked, his eyes bearing down onto Carl.
“I-I don’t know!” Carl admitted, Batman turned to look at Cassandra who shook her head.
He then returned to Carl and gripped him tighter. Carl whimpered and pissed his pants, almost making Cassandra laugh but she held it in. Batman whispered something she couldn’t hear and he confessed like a rat.
“He’s down by the docks. Has a shipment of kryptonite coming in. 600 pounds of it!”
It was more information than Batman wanted, but he welcomed it. He gave another look to Cassandra who nodded, he was telling the truth. Batman let him go and turned his back walking out the front door. He gave one glance at Cassandra and continued.
Since when did he depend on her so much? He could tell when a man was lying but lately he relied on her. Why?
He jumped into the batmobile, followed by Cain, and drove to the docks. On the way there, Cassandra couldn’t stop glancing up at her mentor. He was gorgeous when he was broody and even hotter when he was crabby. She twisted some of her cape in her hand and held onto something as he turned the corner. He was an exceptional driver, crazy on occasions such as this.
They parked near the docks and Batman told Batgirl to stay put. He contacted Clark Kent, warning him of the shipment. Batgirl had figured out who Superman was when she first met him. She could tell by his hidden demeanor. When questioned, Bruce had smiled and said she was just good. It made her happy that he thought highly of her, and only made it worse when she failed him.
He returned and told her to follow him. They crept up and watched silently from a distance. Her eyes were shifting from person to person, reading their expressions. Most were scared, something big with going to happen and she knew it. She nudged Batman and pointed to a large metal crate being pulled out of a boat. She thought it was the kryptonite, but he shook his head.
“They wouldn’t guard it with that many guards.” He said nodding to how many guards they had surrounding it.
He was right of course, he was always right. He pointed to another shipment. A smaller crate came in. A few guards surrounded it, but they were large guards. He looked at her and she nodded back.
They got up and ran over to the men, sending their attacks on them. Cassandra kicked one guard into a wooden door and swung around to bring down another. Batman was fighting the larger of the three. Cassandra loved to watch him work, he was masterful. His graceful but swift moves, his hard punches. The sounds of bones crunching as he sent the larger man to the ground, it was almost music to her ears.
The men were out and that left a crate of kryptonite to themselves. Batman held an arm out as they approached, telling her to stay back. He lifted the lid and sure enough a bright green glow emitted from it. Cassandra wanted to look, she was curious, but held back.
The police soon arrived and thanked the duo, one officer saying they couldn’t have done it without them. Batman and Batgirl faded into darkness as the officer turned around to thank them again. He scratched his red hair and frowned.
“I hate it when they do that.” He spoke to himself.
Cassandra and Batman stayed to make sure the kryptonite was destroyed. He phoned Clark again and told him the news. Cassandra bet he was happy about it.
They headed back to the batcave, it was nearing 5 am and she was exhausted. She leaned back in the seat and looked at him. Lights from the tunnel lit his face up and she couldn’t help but smile. He glanced down at her and she instantly looked straight again, blushing under her mask. She didn’t see it but he cracked a smile as well.
When they reached the cave Alfred was waiting for them, a cup of hot chocolate and black coffee as well as bandages, just in case. Batman and Batgirl got out of the car and both grabbed the cups in unison, thanking Alfred. Cassandra always loved hot chocolate it was her favorite, especially the way Alfred made it.
Batman made his way to his chair and turned the screen on, watching the happenings of Gotham. He wouldn’t be in bed until 6 then up at 10 for his normal life as Bruce Wayne. How he did it she didn’t know. She was enamored by him, everything he was she wanted, not to mention him to herself.
She redressed and sat next to him looking at the screen. Slowly she drifted off to sleep, and he had noticed. He picked her up and carried her to her room, tucking her in and watching her for a moment until Alfred interrupted and told him his day as Bruce Wayne was soon to start.
Batman nodded and left, closing the door quietly, wishing her a good sleep.
