Synop: Dick Grayson Dons his Robin Costume one more time to avenge the death of his ex rival and brother in cape, Jason Todd. Nice little twist at the end to kids... Enjoy.
“It’s not that I exactly hated Jason Todd, Just I never thought I could be replaced. Funny how we realize things after they happen and then get angry at the person not at fault.”
-Richard John Grayson
The cool crisp fall air whirled threw the silent streets of Gotham. The whole world seemed to be asleep. Even the Batman had called it quits to get some much needed rest. But there were two very familiar people stalking the streets tonight. One was a man who once rode the cape tails of the Caped Crusader. The other, The Clown Prince of Crime himself. And why would these two be out so late in the night, or early in the morning, whichever you prefer.
Well, that is a simple answer. The Joker was the prey to an ex-bird. Adorned in a costume of many years ago, “Robin” AKA Dick Grayson, was silently following this clown madman as he proceeded to the museum. And why was Dick dressed in the costume of many years before? Because he was on a mission for an old ‘friend’ of his who couldn’t be here.
Through the roof and past security, the Joker man, gaily skipped toward the magnificent painted clown mask of Great Britain. Its curves were like a fine car. Its colors vibrant and happy. Just what the Joker needed for his sad collection. Surrounding himself in happiness in hopes to forget that he was lonely and sad. Why was he lonely? Because after a night of anger, his faithful, sweet, if not bubbly companion lay motionless in a pool of her own blood within the confines of their once happy and shared funhouse.
Two white gloved hands taunting just outside the glass box which held the hideous piece of art. Beyond the shadows, two white slits watch in wait for him to drop his guard. A tailored costume identical to the one he wore as a boy. Alfred asked not why he had decided to go back to the red and green, but he had a feeling it was not of his business. The glass case was lifted slowly, but no alarm? Oh no… Dick had made sure the cops wouldn’t be here tonight. Taking the extra measure to disconnect all the security systems in and around the perimeter.
A Cheshire grin as The Joker cackled softly to himself. “Yes, my little beauty, you will make the perfect addition to my happy little house.” He cackled again, but the second was shortened as two feet lunged into him forcing him to fall forward and the mask slid across the floor. He looked shocked as he rolled over to see… ROBIN?! He almost looked as though he had seen a ghost! “But how? Did Batsy adopt another little brat?” He sneered and started to stand slowly. “Nope. Not this time Clown. This time it’s a classic kicking your ass.” Robin then grabbed one of the brass poles and ripped the velvet rope from it. He held it high above his head with the devil in his eyes. “You’ve taken too many things that weren’t yours clown!” But just as he was about to bring the pole down and treat him as the Joker had treated Jason, he found himself on his back and the pole fell backwards with a “DONG”. The Joker had gotten one over on the ex-bird and tripped him? The Joker smirked as he stood and lifted the mask. “Seems, I’ll have to take another eh? Robin?” He cackled and with his left hand pulled out one of his marvelous guns. Aiming right at Dick’s face. “You sidekicks are all the same. How many do I have to bump off before Batsy realizes to stop hiring kids to do his dirty work? You and the others… Just his pawns kid. Just decoys so he could get the drop on us. Look how many he’s had? The funny part is… you guys don’t mind being expendable. And from what I’ve learned… The Bat doesn’t even care enough to avenge you!” He tossed his head back in that signature laugh and Robin’s eyes became mere slits with anger. He placed his hands palm down above his head and sprung back to his feet. “You don’t know anything about any of us!” He growled. “Oh… don’t I… Dick?” Robin stepped back astonished. He wasn’t sure what to say or do. “How did you…?”
“Oh come on Birdie… After all these years? Didn’t you think we’d figure it out at some point? You know. Jason was writhing and screaming like a girl as I beat him. Blood splattering all over the place. He sure died quickly though. Shame… I was getting a real BANG out of it!” Again that laugh. And there were tears forming in Dick’s eyes. He had heard what happened, but dear God, how could anyone be so cruel? And Batman. Mourning? Yes, he mourned but did nothing more than let the Joker live. Some hero. Well, Dick was more than that. A green gloved hand reached up and he ripped his mask off dropping it to the floor. The Joker blinked and raised an eyebrow. “Thought you heroes weren’t supposed to take your mask off… “ Dick’s eyes narrowed and the tears fell. “What do I have to worry about? Not like you’ll be able to tell anyone. Besides, I want you to see the look in my eyes as you draw your last breath!” And with that, he used his foot to bounce the pole back into his hands and smacked The Joker right across the jaw. Blood and teeth flying in every direction. “Is that how you did it?!” He yelled and swooped the pole below to knock him off his feet. The Joker was begging as Dick repeatedly hit him again and again. Each time harder. Then he looked at him in the puddle of blood and smirked. “Now you know how Jason felt Clown.” But he did not hit him again with the pole. No, he had a better idea. He took the glass case from which the mask had been within and held it above his head. “No Robin stop!” The Dark Knight had found that Dick was out and found him here. But Robin turned for but one second and smiled an evil grin. “Not this time Big Guy…“ His eyes scanning down to the battered Joker and he laughed. “Say Goodnight Gracie!” And he slammed the glass box right into that smiling face. It was done. The sound of shattering glass filled the museum with painful echoes. Had Dick lost his mind? No. He just made one Hell of an apology.
It took hours to clean up the blood. But the newspapers all spoke joyously of the final death of Gotham’s arch rival. Everyone was so ecstatic that they didn’t even mind that Robin had cost them so much in fixing the museum. And Bruce was shocked. No… ashamed. But was he ashamed because he had allowed Dick to kill the mad man who took one Robin and tried to take another? Or was he ashamed because this boy had done something, he himself didn’t have the guts to do?
The evening was crisp and a slight breeze whirled through the cemetery, Dick Grayson, though battered and in pain stood before a large gray tombstone marked “Here Lies Jason Peter Todd”. He sighed and knelt down slowly to place the bloodied squirting lapel flower onto the grave. “Well, Jason, I did it…” He ran his fingers over the word Jason and smiled weakly. “Good.” Came a voice behind him. A shadowy figure in a long brown trench coat with a cigarette hanging from his mouth. Dick didn’t turn around. “he fought a good fight Jason, but you’ve been avenged.” He stood and sighed wiping his hands on his blue jeans. The voice was familiar as it should be. “Guess it’s true what they say eh Dick? Never send a Batman to do a Boy Wonder’s job?” A smirk around that cigarette and a huffed chuckle. Dick’s blue eyes turned behind him and he smirked back. “Yeah… So… I guess you can come out of hiding now?” He stepped to the figure and crossed his arms. “Not yet Dickey Bird… Not yet.” And the figure pulled a cane from the coat and began to limp away, leaving Dick to stand beside the empty grave of one Jason Peter Todd.
