Disclaimer: I do not own Justice League, or any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A/N: This fic was based a few episodes before Wonder Woman had to go back to Paradise Island and help her father kick that one soul guy's ass. I have seen the Watch Tower, a million times, and I have seen the fancy rooms, machines and places where they can practice their skills. However, I never did catch the "title" of any of the locations, so if you see something that you know the title of, tell me and I will change it. But seriously, I never did catch a title for a room or for a area. All I saw was hallways, a training room, a medic center, a meeting room, and the system maintenance room. Like I said, if you know the true title of those areas, please tell me. Now, I am warning you right now that I am doing something different with Wonder Woman's attitude towards Hawkgirl and I am going to do something with them as well. I got so mad at the show every time they crossed paths and always put on the, "I'm too good to sink to your level" look. So I'm going to do some changes. Just glance at it. I don't mind a flame, or a critic. But before you can flame, review, or be a critic, you have to read it. I won't pay attention to a review, flame, etc. If you only made an attempt to read the first few words, or the first paragraph.

Shayera didn't know who to turn to, or where to turn to. But in just a few moments, it wouldn't have mattered. This was the end for her and she knew it. Before her fate came, she started to reflect back to early this morning when J'onn alerted the entire league that they had a intruder abroad that must be captured and stopped. Shayera heard his words over the intercom system, but didn't pay much attention... now about ready to meet her doom, she wished she had. Better yet, she wished she had listened to Diana's words of caution. If she h ad done so, perhaps she wouldn't of found herself where she has now.

" Watch were you're going!" Diana hissed as Shayera had brushed her shoulder, seeming to make the powerful Amazon princess recoil in disgust.
" Why don't you look where you're walking!" She had barked back, not in the mood to really start up anther hot argument with her this early in the morning. Gold Booster had been walking by with Huntress when the two got into it.
" Uh-oh." He remarked in a I-know-where-this-going- voice. Huntress merely rolled her eyes, pressing her lips together tightly. She didn't much care to mingle with other people's affairs. But everyone in the tower knew when Shayera and Diana started something, it was going to end nasty. And frankly, Huntress didn't want that to happen.
" Who do you want this time?" Huntress mumbled to her fellow team mate, flexing her shoulder muscles.
" You want a piece me?!" Diana roared, drawing some of the other Justice League members attention in the hallway. Shayera scoffed, lifting her arms for invitation.
" No princess. I want the whole thing!" Diana braced herself, teeth clamping down tight on each other.
" Then bring it, bird girl! I've been waiting to do this for a long time!" Shayera held up a finger.
" Okay that's crossing the line. Call me every freak'n name in the book all you want... but "bird girl" is over doing it!" With that, Shayera did a low spin kick, surprising Diana and knocking her back. Diana recovered and delivered a series of violent punches in Shayera's face, torso and occasionally the middle of her back with the tip of her elbow. Gold Booster pointed quickly to Shayera.
" I'll take Hawkgirl. You handle Miss High and Mighty." Huntress nodded, heading for the two young women. Supergirl and Vixen happened to be near by and ran over to see what in the world was going on. Meanwhile, Gold Booster was having the toughest time getting Shayera off Diana's back. More so, Huntress was have a hell of a hard time keeping Diana at bay from tossing both her and Shayera into the next wall.
" Diana, calm down!" Huntress snapped, using all her upper body strength to keep a firm restrain on Diana's fists. Diana's eyes darkened.
" Get off me Huntress! This does not concern you!"
" So back off!" Shayera directed this statement to Gold Booster, who got sucker punched across the face while attempting to get her off Diana's back. But Shayera was dead set and staying right where she was at. Supergirl exchanged a worried look with Vixen.
" Should we do something? I mean... yeah, they're being childless and yeah Shayera betrayed us... but she's still part of this team and it doesn't feel right just standing here, knowing they're gonna beat the living snot out of each other." Vixen frowned down at the blonde.
" You do realize we're going to get in trouble and you do realize we're going to get beat up in the process, right?" Supergirl arched a brow.
" You think?" Just then, Huntress was punched by Diana and went flying back into the wall, leaving a big crater mark when she slid down to the floor, close to where Supergirl and Vixen were standing.
" No honey. I know. And there's your proof." A small sigh escaped Vixen's lips.
" Come on. Let's go." Supergirl knew compromise would not work with Diana, let alone Shayera at the moment. So, she simply rammed them both, knocking Shayera off Diana's back. Shayera went tumbling until she hit the wall and came to a painful halt. Vixen took this time to pounce on Shayera, seeing how she was slightly more in a daze from Supergirl's blow. Diana was not frazzled at all. If anything, she was only more enraged.
" Back off Supergirl!" Supergirl floated out of Diana's reach when she tried to strike her like Huntress a little while ago. Meanwhile, Gold Booster and Huntress had regained their composure and tackled Diana while Supergirl kept her distracted. Diana thrashed for a while, shouting at the top of her lungs,
" Let me at her! Let me at her! I swear! When I get out from under these fools, I am gonna tear out your feathers and make you eat them! Mark my words Shayera!" Upon hearing the comment, Shayera started a little thrashing of her own, but Vixen's grip was very firm and she wasn't about to let Shayera go.
" I'd like to see you even try to touch my wings bitch! For a Amazon princess, you sure have a lot more brawn then a brain!" Diana's whole face darkened and for a split second, everyone, including Shayera thought she was gonna break free and slaughter her for good. Luckily, John and Clark were notified by some of the other members of the team and arrived at the scene.
" People that's enough." Clark proclaimed coolly, gazing disappointedly at them. Supergirl in particular. Supergirl's eyes widened realizing he was looking at her.
" Hey, don't give me that look Clark! Heck, if it wasn't for me and Mari over there. There would of been feathers and a tiara all over the place!" John shook his head, sighing deeply.
" This has gone on long enough."
" I agree." Clark replied crisply, clasping his thick hands behind his back.
" Diana, Shayera. I want you two to report to the Conference Room. As for the rest of you..." Clark looked at all the faces involved in the recent fight.
" You are to report to the Mess Hall. There, John will assign you a cleaning duty. I know you didn't cause this, and that you were only trying to help, but you know that any form of fighting is not prohibited unless for an emergency." Groans and complaints filled Clark's ears.
" What?! That's not right! I don't care if it's prohibited or not! We stopped something that could of turned into something ugly!"
" We were walking...! And saw them fighting... Clark come on!"
" I told you not to get involved, I told you we'd get in trouble. But did you listen? Noooo!"
" Ah damn it all! Booster, I am never listening to you again! Do you hear me?!"
" What? So now it's my fault?"
" Yes!"
" Say what?! Vixen, you're the one who said, "Let's go"!"
" But I gave you warnings! If anything, I was hoping you'd listen to them!" After listening for a minute's worth, he held up his hand to silence them.
" You have your orders." With that, he and John turned and went back the way they came. Once they were out of their rang, John hit Clark's shoulder.
" Cleaning duty? You call that punishment?" Clark rubbed his shoulder.
" It was the best I could think of at the moment." John shook his head, going his way to the Mess Hall. Everyone left behind in their wake cast deadly glares towards Diana and Shayera. The two young women would of told them off, but they knew they had really done it this time. Ashamed, both of them glowered and sulked, not finding it in them to say a word.
JL HQ: Conference Room
Time: 8:32 a.m.
As instructed, Diana and Shayera reported to the Conference Room where they found Clark waiting for them. No one else was there, only Clark and if anything... he didn't look very happy.
" Okay. I'm going to make this meeting brief, blunt and short." He began, standing up from his chair at the arch table.
" I don't know what it will take to get you to get along. But I do know this. If this kind of behavior continues... if I see just one more conflict between you two. You're out." Both Diana and Shayera gapped at Clark, chiefly shocked.
" But I-"
" Save it princess. I don't wanna hear it. All I want to hear, is peace in this tower. I can't have members who want to start the world's next revolution every time they see each other. Is that understood?" Shayera started to speak up, but Clark only repeated himself louder, cutting her off.
" Is that understood?!" He didn't receive a reply back. Time passed, and the stars floated about in orbit. Clark's eyes darted between both of them. He took on their appearance and had to sigh mentally. Diana had a few bruises on her face, and her fists were red, indicating she had abused them. While Shayera displayed her wonderful black eye, disarrayed hair and feathers.
" People, you're not going leave here until I get a answer." Curling her hands into tight fists, Shayera replied,
" Understood, Sir." Clark glanced at Diana, waiting to hear her reply. With a deep breath and eyes cast downward, she mumbled a, "Understood, Sir." Clark nodded, content.
" You're dissmi-" He was interrupted by a alarm going off. The red light was never a good thing and it didn't take long before J'onzz's voice was heard through the intercom's system.
" We have a unknown enemy among us. I repeat, we have a unknown enemy among us. All active members report to the Bridge." Clark stole a look at Diana. Surprisingly, the outgoing bella of beauty did not look pumped for action or so much as even concerned that they were under attack. Shayera mirrored Diana, staring hard with her good eye at the carpeted floor.
" Diana, Shayera. You two are to stay here." This time, Diana reacted.
" Oh no! I'm not going to stand by and-"
" You will do as you are told, is that understood, princess?" Diana forced her mouth to remain shut. Clark gave them both a stern look before striding out of the room. The alarms continued to go off, and sound of hurried footsteps could be heard outside the door the two young women were stationed in.
" I don't know about you, but I'm not really keen on staying in this room." Diana frowned at her, but didn't say anything.
" You know," Sighed the Amazon princess when Shayera was about to step out of the room.
" I could care less what could happen between us. I could care less about your choice to disobey Super Man's orders and waltz right out of this room. But I have the feeling that if you do, something bad will happen to you." Shayera shrugged off Diana's words.
" Why should I care what you or anyone else says? Why should I care if something happens to me? Let it happen, if you honestly think something will. Besides... no one would miss me, not even Super Man." Diana merely glared before Shayera disappeared from her site.
The figure in the black stealth clothing and shiny, silvery chest plate, bracers and helmet stood clear of the Justice League members. There was only one person he was here for. Only one. He didn't want to bring harm to anyone else, if he did, the future would most likely be altered.
" Did J'onzz say what were up against?" Wild Cat questioned Black Canary as they came rushing around the corner where the ninja stayed hidden in the shadows. Green Arrow and Tornado were close behind them, all over passing the quiet ninja.
" I don't think so." Came the short retort from Black Canary, stepping into the elevator where the other men joined her. After the elevators door hissed shut, the ninja hit the blue, orb like button on his time belt. He became visible to the naked eye and was well aware of it. It didn't matter if they saw him now. They wouldn't be able to stop him. He was on a mission and he was not going to be taken out until he completed it! Just then, he heard another door open. But it wasn't around his area. A few feet down the hall and two doors down, he felt her presences... the ninja knew this person very well, thanks to "her" briefing.
" Now is the time." He murmured, reaching down by his side to snatch the crystal dagger "she" had given him for this occasion.
" To put "her" plan into motion. Supreme One, I shall not fail." The ninja declared softly, darting off with incredible speed towards his target...
Shayera didn't see it hit her, but she felt it! Once she recovered from the shock of being knocked down, she shot off the floor and flexed her wings high, now knowing she wasn't alone in the dim lit hallway.
" I don't know who you are, but I'm not in the mood to play hide and seek. So come out now before I get really angry."
" As you wish." The voice came from behind her. Shayera's eyes widened as she felt something pierce into the side of her torso. Whatever it was inside of her, it was digging deeper, sliding that way, moving up this way. Five seconds later, the sharpness left her wound. Alarmed, she whirled around to sock the enemy who dared to attack her, but she didn't see anyone. Or at least, not at first. Out of the corner of her eye, she finally saw him. The ninja tried to grab the wings and finish his job, but Shayera sensed his actions and ducked.
" You're quick. But not quick enough!" He declared, doing a swift jump up and the air and landing on her back. Shayera was about to reach up and toss him off, when her brain went numb. She froze, her breathing becoming labored as the numbness spread, making her body seem to shut down. Not only did she have a wound to worry about, but some manic on her back with a armed weapon. God only knew what he was planning to do to her. With the slightest tingle of control in her legs, Shayera forced her brain to guide her form into the walls as hard as they could. The assassin ninja laughed at her meek efforts.
" How pathetic. You know. I really expected more of a fight from you. "She" said you would be stubborn and not go down easily. But it was like taking candy from a baby. You're weak... and all alone." Shayera didn't know where the sudden anger came from, but she thanked God above that it surfaced when it did.
" I've had... enough of you!" She struggled to get the words out, seeing how her brain was numb, but regardless, she thrust him off with a mighty flap of her wings. The ninja wasn't expecting this and was caught off guard. He landed with a hard thud on the floor, the blood stained crystal dagger falling out of his grasp. Shayera took this time to flew as far away from him as she possibly could. She ran with one hand clasping her wound that was pouring out blood by the second. You'd think, after a wound like that... you'd think after loosing so much blood she'd of collapsed. But Hawkgirl wasn't ready to die yet. No, not yet. She still had to settle the final score with Wonder Woman.

" You know. There's a old children's story about an egg. I think you're familiar with it..." The ninja's voice was dangerously low as he approached Shayera's weak, trembling form.
" However, I'm going to tell it a different way from the original if you don't mind." Shayera wanted to defend herself and teach this arrogant bastard a lesson. But... her body had finally reached it's limit. She couldn't hardly breath with out feeling the sharp, nauseating pain from her wound. She couldn't move without getting dizzy. She couldn't do anything.
" Shayera Kol had a great fall," The ninja stalked closer, raising the crystal dagger from behind his back.
" Shayera Kol fell off a wall," He got close enough to kick her. Shayera cried out as he kicked her wound with his shoe and pressed the tip in just to bring her greater pain. He moved his foot back and thrust it into her torso again. But before pulling away, he forced her onto her stomach.
" But not even Super Man, one of the world's mightiest men..." He paused there, sticking the side of the dagger's blade right to the core of Shayera's right wing. Shayera was so numb now, she hardly felt him cutting off her wing. She only remembered hearing herself crying quietly to herself, knowing this was it. This was the end. Whoever this ninja assassin was, he was doing her a favor by ending her life.
" could put Shayera Kol's wings back together again." He concluded his story, grinning behind his helmet. Seeing that he had cut the roots of the right wing, he decided it was time to pull the wing out. His grin grew when her raw animal scream echoed through the entire station. Just to annoy her, he repeated his story as he got to work on the other wing . Perhaps this was best for Hawkgirl. Now she didn't have to suffer. Now she didn't have to struggle to prove her redemption. Not seeing any other alternative, Shayera laid there in her pool of blood, waiting for him to finish her. As the ninja started to pull the left wing from the flesh, two pairs of blue depth eyes watched the scene in horror. The sight of seeing this guy rip off Shayera's wings can not be described with words. Diana was struck mute and for once, she found herself not knowing what to do. Surely, the others heard the scream like she did. Surely they were on their way. But none of that mattered really. All that mattered to Diana was getting the ninja assassin off of Shayera before he tore the left wing off completely.
" Get off her..." Her first words were soft, barely audible. Diana was still quite shaken at the sight of seeing him ripping off the wing, and noting the one laying limply to the side in the blood. But once she heard the tear of the other wing, saw the blood gush up from where the wing once rested, and saw how Shayera's face turned to ash from the mere pain of the torture, her voice re-surfaced with a loud bang.
" Get the hell away from her, you monster!" The ninja craned his neck around just in time to meet Diana's fist. Needless to say, luck was not on the ninja's side. Mt. Diana had erupted and her lava flowed strongly, burning anything in her path. Too bad it was the ninja. He got burnt by her lava, in quite a bit of areas. His face, stomach, legs, you name it. After a while of tossing, and getting kicked around, Diana decided she wanted some answers. She picked him up by his collar with her free hand she clamped it around his throat, squeezing it lightly at first.
" Who sent you?" The fuming Amazon princess demanded hotly, her grip around the assassin starting to tightening ever so slowly. Despite his situation, the ninja grinned behind his helmet, that had a few dents in the side and where the forehead would be located.
" "The Supreme One" sent me." He replied dryly, not flinching the slightest bit in her grip. Diana's lips tugged back into a small frown.
" Who the hell is "The Supreme One"?" The ninja assassin started to laugh, though it was strained.
" Why, she's you. In the future, that is." Words could not describe how Diana felt. Actions could not define what she did to the ninja.
" You mean to tell me that I caused this to happen to her?! There must be some kind of misunderstanding. I know Shayera and I don't get along that well. But I find it pretty hard to believe I would do something this rash." The ninja let out a twisted chuckle, sending shudders down Diana's spine.
" Oh. Believe it, princess." He rasped as Diana started to ram his entire head into the wall.
" No! It doesn't make any sense! Why would I send someone like you to kill her?!" Diana was almost hysterical with her rage. She was so confused. Not only what was happening at that very moment, but hearing news that she was the one responsible for Shayera's pain, for the loss of her wings...
" Simple!" Cried the assassin, not bothered by Diana's punches to the face or occasional slams into the wall.
" You got tired of putting up with her in your old age, so you ordered me to come back to your past to finish her off early!" Diana eyes blazed with rage. With a loud cry, she punched him down to the floor. Her blow was so powerful, she felt it go through his silver metal helmet and make contact with his nose. She was sure she broke it, but didn't much care. She had more important things to worry about. Seeing that the ninja was knocked out and no longer a threat, Diana went over to Shayera's side. She knelt down by her fallen rival, and did a quick examine of her. Even from just looking at her, Diana could tell she was in a lot of pain.
" Great Hera... what have I done?" She cried out silently, carefully taking Shayera's upper body into her arms gently. She cradled her close, setting side their past differences. Right now, it didn't matter if she betrayed them, and even used them to get what she wanted. All that was on Diana's mind was her faint, ragged breathing and seeing the two wings detached from their owner.
" Shayera... can you hear me?" No response from the battered young woman. Diana felt a sting hit her eyes and her vision clouded shortly after.
" Come on. Say something. You can't die. Not now. What was all that talk about having backbone? Come on wake up. Wake up!"
" ... You best watch your... mouth, princess... I got a mace to back it up. Lu... Lucky for you it's in my room..." Diana cracked a half smile down at her rival. Shayera's eyes were barely even open, but at least she wasn't dead. For that, Diana was thankful. At that very moment, J'onn came up from the floor, and Huntress with a few other females of the league came rushing around the corner. The first thing they noticed or rather came across at first site, was Diana holding Shayera's bloody form. The second thing, made them let out startled gasps.
" Oh man!" Supergirl exclaimed, floating down to the floor.
" H-Her wings... they're... they're-"
" Don't even say it." Black Canary cut in sharply, rushing to Diana's side. Mari knew better, but this was too good of a chance to pass up.
" You know. If the circumstances weren't so serious and Shayera's life wasn't on the line... I'd laugh." Huntress shot her a look.
" And you'd laugh because...?" Mari grinned, lifting a casual hand.
" They're not trying to kill each other. That's why." Diana grew sad.
" I wouldn't say that..." She didn't speak loud enough for them to hear, more so, she said it to herself, but Black Canary heard her and made a mental to note to ask her what she meant by the statement.
" Give her to me, Wonder Woman." J'onn ordered, going over to where she and Canary were kneeling. Diana did so without any protest, seeming to be lost in a daze.
" Vixen, I would like you alert Super Man and tell that we have found the culprit. Supergirl, Huntress. Take our guest to the Infirmary. I have some questions I'd like to ask him. That is, if Wonder Woman hasn't hurt him too much." J'onn glanced down at Black Canary.
" Could you please bring her wings and follow me?" Black Canary gave him a firm nod, easing up swiftly to retrieve the wings. Diana didn't know how much longer she could sit and replay the events of over in her mind. Yet... she found herself glued to the floor and her eyes fixed on the pool of blood. Shayera's blood. Blood, that was now on her hands. All Diana could see in her mind, was a hand ripping wings off. Only instead of the ninja's, she saw her own. Before taking off, Vixen rested a hand on Diana's bare shoulder.
" Hey, you okay? You look kind of pale." Diana mumbled something Vixen couldn't make out and bowed her head, refusing to meet her comrade's gaze. Vixen knew she should of contacted Super Man right then and there. But the Amazon princess was in rather need of comfort.
" Come with me Wonder Woman. I think walking around might do you some good." Seeing that Diana was making no attempt to move, Mari bent down and heaved her upright, allowing her to lean on her. It was obvious she was still shook up over what happened to Shayera. How could I have become so bitter? Was what he said... true? Did I really despise Shayera so much that I wanted her dead? Once again, images of seeing hands tear off wings filled Diana's weary mind. Diana groaned inwardly, feeling her stomach knot up. If she dies I don't know how I'll ever live it down. As if things weren't complicated enough, Diana lurched forward, and threw up. Mari's jaw dropped while eyes grew round.
" Oh! Oh no you didn't!" Another retrench greeted her ears. Mari growled in frustration.
" Man this has been one hell of a morning!" Mari lifted her free hand and pressed the communicator behind her tanned ear.
" J'onn, this is Vixen. Make room at the Infirmary for one more." She cut the line before he could even prompt her.
" Come on. Let's go princess." Mari replied shortly after Diana had finally gotten the last pulsation to vomit out of her system. While dragging the deeply pale faced warrior to the Infirmary, Mari contacted Clark and alerted him that they caught the enemy and asked if he could come meet up with her at the Infirmary. He confirmed and told her he'd be there ASAP.

Time: 11:45 p.m.
When Diana's eyes fluttered open, all she saw was a big red blur. For a while, everything was like a under water world. Colors mixed with shades, the shades mixed with the light, making it wavy and uneven. She made the mistake of trying to sit up. That only made the tilting of the room worse.
" Hey, take it easy princess. You've... had a pretty rough time. Just relax." Diana recognized the voice speaking to her, but couldn't find the strength to reply back to it. Hands were pressed on both her shoulders and she found herself being eased back down on the surface of her bed. She shut her eyes, wishing the redness would go away. Red was not one of her favorite colors at the moment. Once her head hit a softy, fluffy surface, she fell into a rather relaxed state, but didn't slip into oblivion like she would of normally done.
" How's she doing?" Another voice was speaking now. It was more deeper than the previous one.
" It's been.... rough." John cast a sad glance down at Diana's now still form.
" And how's Shayera? Has she come around herself?" John folded his arms over his chest.
" I'm afraid not. She's still in a lot of pain. I'm... well I'm surprised she lived after being stabbed, injected with posion and having both her wings tore off... if anything, that should of done the trick. The wings, I mean. She lost more blood from the loss of her wings, according to J'onzz." The other voice let out a long sigh.
" She's one tough bird." John frowned.
" They're trying everything they can. But it's just a mad house in there."
" You worried?" John closed his eyes, his eye brows furrowing madly.
" Of course I'm worried! Flash, are you really that dense?" Flash lifted his shoulders, smiling smugly.
" Depends on what time it is and where my ladies are at." John turned his head to the side, his eyes opening to about half way.
" You know... I told Batman I wanted to give her space. And that I was happy with Vixen... but the truth is-"
" You were miserable and thought of her every time you were with her. You visualized the smell of her hair, the pitch of her warm laughter. You even day dreamed of the good ol' days before all of this. No matter what you tried, no matter how many times you said you were happy... you were miserable and would of given anything to of been in Shayera's space." John gapped in astonishment at the Flash. Flash blinked at his reaction.
" What?" John's arms fell down to his sides.
" Who would of thought that a goof ball like you, could be romantic and understand the very depths of my thoughts?" Flash chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck.
" Yeah well. It's sorta obvious sometimes when you're all by yourself, looking out a window or when you freeze up when Vixen asks you if you love her..." John frowned at him, arching a brow. Flash blinked again.
" What?" John shook his head, muttering,
" Never mind. Look, I'm going to go check on our time travel friend and see if he's cracked yet." Flash rolled his eyes.
" You mean to tell me after all this time, he still isn't talking?" John shook his head a few times before starting for the door.
" Nope. He's very loyal to the one he calls, "The Supreme One"... whatever that means. Contact me if Diana comes back around. J'onzz has some questions to ask her as well." Flash winced.
" I dunno John. She's been having a rough time. Always waking up, and vomiting... then passing back out. Soon after that, she always comes down with a fever... I just don't know man. Are you sure probing her with questions of what happened with Shayera is wise?" John lifted a shoulder.
" Well let me put it this way... you're one hell of a suicidal person to do that. But it's important that he speaks with her right away." Flash bobbed his head.
" Right. I'll be sure to tell him if she comes back around." John left him alone with Diana, who above all if anything, looked extremely pale. She had heard everything. She had a heavy hunch on what J'onn wanted to ask her. If that was the case, how would she respond? Oh sure. She could openly admit that the ninja assassin was correct in her being "The Supreme One" and was responsible for Shayera's close encounter with death. But then what? Face exile from the team because of something she did way into the future? It was true she didn't much like or respect Shayera. But knowing what she knew now, and knowing that her rival lost her wings at her hands, was rather serious. But then again, Diana didn't feel any sudden urge to rise from her bed and go slit her throat. So... why would she send a assassin to finish her off early? What did... Hawkgirl do that would drive Diana to do something like that? I... I need to speak with her. Diana thought wearily, forcing heavy eye lids open. Slowly, Diana rose to sitting position, not wanting to have another dizzy spell and wind up retrenching her guts out. It took her a few moments, but the spinning stopped and her vision became clear.
" Hey now. Don't be getting up. Just relax princess." Diana lifted a head that felt weighed down with led. When she opened her mouth, all the emerged was a hoarse croak. Instantly, she felt the sore rawness in her throat. Flash put on a bright smile.
" Hold on there. I'll get something that will help that." Diana watched his retreating back.
" Wait a second, okay?" Flash pulled back the white curtain a little ways, then pulled it back shut when he had stepped out.
" Hey can I get some hot herbal tea down here? Huh? Well, um... because I'm thirsty. No. I'm serious... oh please. Plenty of care takers drink tea. Name one? Well okay. There's..." Diana listened to him talk, taking in her surroundings. She in Infirmary, white curtains surrounding her in the small, but well spaced room. She looked down and saw that her battle armor had been removed. She was wearing a white robe and around her wrist was a blue, plastic tag that had her name on it. She heaved a weak sigh, looking about the room some more. She spotted her battle armor. It was close by the bed, all neatly stacked and spotless of any blood she was sure she got on it from when holding Shayera. Diana shuddered at the memory of holding her in her arms and seeing that pained expression on her face.
" Here you go princess." Flash spoke softly, not wanting to let the others know she had come back around so soon. Diana shifted around in the bed so she could receive the plastic cup. To her surprise, she found that her hands were shaking. Flash saw this and asked her if she wanted some help. Without saying anything, she nodded slowly. With resting a hand in the middle of her back, he used his free one to keep the end of the cup steady while she clasped it the best she could. The warm, sweet liquid seeped down her sore throat, she felt much better. The warmth of the drink soothed the strained lungs and filled the rest of her body with a relaxing sensation. Once she had finished, Flash started to pull the cup away, but Diana kept her trembling hands around it, reaching forward for more, even though she knew there was none. The sight of this made the Flash's heart ache.
" You poor thing. I can get some more, if you'd like... perhaps even some food." Diana let the cup go, shaking her.
" No," She sighed weakly.
" I... I need to speak with Shayera." Flash grimaced.
" Well that's going to be rather difficult. She hasn't even regained consciousness, and if the others find out you're awake... they'll alert J'onn."
" I know." Diana replied quickly, clearing her throat slightly.
" I heard you and John talking earlier." Flash's eye brows shot up.
" You mean, you were awake?" Diana nodded a few times, groaning softly as the room started to spin before her eyes again.
" Then if you don't mind me asking. What exactly is going on with you and Shayera?"
" N-Nothing's going on." Diana replied shakily, suddenly defensive.
" Bull. That's bull and you know it. I mean... what happened? I expected Shayera to be out. But you, you the mighty Amazon princess who has no weakness it seems... falls ill and can hardly get out of bed for a full week?" Alarmed, Diana cried,
" I've been out a week?!" Flash shook his hands from side to side.
" Shh! Lower your voice. If they hear you, they'll-"
" I'm aware of what J'onn wants to do and I can't allow that to happen... not now anyway." Flash was confused.
" Allow what to happen?" Diana didn't reply back to his question. She threw back the linen sheets and put her bare feet down on the tiled floor of the Infirmary.
" Hey, what do you think you're doing?" Diana took a few cautious steps, seeing if she could walk. She stumbled a few times, but did not fall. Once she was confident she could walk properly, she turned to Flash.
" I'm leaving." She stated bluntly and simply. Flash stared at her with wide eyes.
" What? Say what?"
" Don't make me repeat myself. I am not in the mood." Flash bit his lower lip.
" Princess I can't let you leave. I have orders. Super Man and J'onn want to keep a close eye on you for the time being." Diana's weariness was replaced with anger.
" You mean to tell me they're holding me captive?" Flash sweat dropped.
" That's one way of putting it." Diana wanted to grab him by the neck and demand an explanation, but her throat still ached deeply. And frankly, she already knew why. Which angered her more. Seeing her face cloud with frustration, Flash snapped his finger, getting an idea.
" Look. I know you're not up to facing anyone. So I'll let you leave. But not now. If you can wait just a little while longer when everyone is asleep, I help you leave." Diana arched a brow.
" What makes you think I'm leaving the tower?" Flash grinned, shrugging his shoulders.
" Well, I figured if you don't want to put up with all this, staying within the tower would be stupid. It's pretty obvious that you're going to be leaving the tower... am I right?" Diana sighed, glancing elsewhere.
" Question though... where will you go?" Diana met his gaze, her eyes appearing rather sad and worn.
" I have no idea." Diana looked to where her armor rested.
" I'm taking her with me Flash..." Flash's jaw sagged downward.
" You're removing a patient that needs intensive care and you're going to leave? Not knowing where you're going, I might add?" Diana nodded quietly.
" Why on earth are you doing this? You leaving is one thing. Taking Shayera is another. I don't know if I can allow that princess." Diana's glare made the hair stand up on the back of Flash's neck.
" Because this is personal. Something Shayera and I have to work out--by ourselves." Flash sighed, trying to think of what would be best. He knew better than to allow Diana to go, let alone let her take Shayera and disappear. But he didn't have a problem in letting Diana go. It was just... Shayera was crossing the line.
" Flash please... I have to do this. I have to stop myself from becoming..."her". And the only way to do that, is if Shayera and I resolve our differences." Diana's voice broke and her vision fogged with moisture. She didn't want to cry in front of him, so she didn't blink.
" Now hold it right there. Stop from becoming who?" Diana couldn't look in directly in the face as told him.
" Do you remember when John came in earlier and said how the ninja kept saying he wouldn't give in and tell who "The Supreme One" was?" Flash nodded, eyebrows knitting together.
" Yeah." Diana exhaled.
" Well, you're looking at her." Flash gapped widely at her, suddenly speechless. An uncomfortable silence fell over them. All at once, Flash understood Diana's motives for wanting to leave along with Shayera.
" You mean... you're the reason that freak is here? You're the reason Shayera's-"
" Yes," Sighed the Amazon princess quietly.
" I'm the reason..." Flash didn't know what to say to say. So he didn't say anything. However, he did go over to Diana and draw her into his arms. Unable to stand the building pressure in her eyes, Diana let the tears fall. She clung to Flash, sobbing bitterly on chest.
" It's gonna be okay Diana." Flash crooned to her gently.
" Shh... it's gonna be okay." But unless Diana could somehow come to respectful terms with Shayera, nothing was going to be okay.
A/N: I'm sorry if this was... pathetically put together. But the storyline I got planned will be really awesome. I just had to get this prelude out of the way. So bear with me. Diana may have seen OOC. That may of been, but I had to make her react like this to get the point across. Like I said, sorry it was pathetic. I'm trying hard on this, I really am.
