Now on with the fic!
Robin had been feeling ill for awhile now, two weeks to be more precise. He didn’t want to tell the others about it yet. He figured he had caught something and it would pass soon. Like any other common sickness. He had taken a few cold medicines for upset stomach and nausea and sometimes headache. He thought it was nothing since it only lasted till early in the morning and he could only keep down a piece of toast and some tea for breakfast. No one took much notice to it because they, Beast Boy and Cybrog, usually didn’t pay attention to what everyone else ate as they argued about what they should eat for breakfast. So he could get away with just eating toast and tea sometimes. But when they did get him to eat breakfast, he either didn’t muchmuch or none at all and to make sure his friends didn‘t suspect anything, he pretended to eat. He could tell his friends had begun to notice but they said nothing. Besides, it was nothing to worry about. Right?
During their missions, most of the evil doers who were hired by Slade avoided fighting him at all costs. He would hit them but they never retaliated (not that he minded). That had been going on for two months now. Every since he had left Slade. But while he knew he was with Slade those last two months, though strangely he couldn’t remember much aside from the missions Slade sent him on and when he and his friends escaped. That really got under his skin. Slade must have done something to make him forget everything while he was with Slade. He doubted Slade was trying to protect him from something but he was starting to believe that Slade was leaving him alone for a reason. And like always, he was determined to find out what it was.
He usually sat in his room, trying to figure out Slade’s plans or his next move, if he was lucky, and worked in silence with no disturbances.
This was not one of those times.
“Yo, Robin!”
Robin turned to face Cybrog with Beast Boy standing next to him. “What is it?”
“You wanna come with us for lunch? We’re all going out for pizza!”
“With tofu toppings on it.”
“We are not going to have tofu on pizza. They don‘t even have tofu toppings!”
“Well, they should!”
“It’s just wrong to put on a pizza!”
“It’s wrong to eat those animals!” While they were arguing again, Robin had started to feel sick again. The thought of even eating pizza was making him sick and he felt like he was going to throw up.
“Maybe later guys. I’m not feeling pizza right now.” Literally.
“Well, Ok. Are you sure?” Beast Boy asked.
“Yes. Now go. I’ll… just find something else to eat.”
“All right I guess. Come on BB.”
When they left, Robin quickly ran to the bathroom in his room and threw up the little breakfast he had eaten. He laid his head in the cool chrome and sighed softly. *What is wrong with me? I’ve never been this sick before in a long time. Maybe I caught the stomach flu? No… I dofeelfeel sick all the time. Then what’s wrong with me?* He sighed and cleaned his face. He walked back into his room and laid on his bed and rubbed his stomach to help calm it. For some reason, he had a craving for pickles and… mustard. He’d never wanted something like that before. The thought of those two things together should be disgusting… but it only made his mouth water. He got up and walked into the kitchen. He noticed that everyone was gone so he didn’t have to worry about them, Beast Boy and Cybrog, making fun of him for eating something like that. He looked around the kitchen for pickles and mustard and actually found some that was edible. Must be freshly bought. He ate it and had an idea.
What if Slade was somehow behind his illness? He certainly wouldn’t put it passed him. Robin looked around for the machinery used the first time to find out what was wrong with his friends.
“Found it.” He looked at it. “Now how to use it?” He brought the machine out and hooked it up to the big TV in the den. He put the helmet on and started the machine. When the screen showed the inside of his body he saw nothing g. Hg. He was about to give this up and put it away when something caught his eye. It was smaller than the pervious nano-bots and it seemed to be doing something… At a er ier inspection, he found that the microscopic thing was doing something to his cells. It seemed to be reconfiguring it somehow. It wasn’t hurting him or anything. Then what was it doing that for? He knew Slade was behind this but… he couldn’t remember Slade infecting him with anything. Maybe… maybe those gaps in his memory meant something really important. Something he wasn’t suppose to know. But what? is the real question. What was Slade trying to hide from him? He quickly put up the device before his friends came back and sat in his room.
He had found out something but it only left more unanswered questions. He had to find out what those bots were doing to him before it was too late to change it. He heard a yell and a crash which signaled that his friends have returned. He sighed and went out to greet them. But Starfire greeted him first.
“Friend Robin! You should have come with us to the place you call ‘Pizza Palace’. We had much fun!”
“Really? What did Beast Boy do this time?”
“Hey! I didn’t do anything!”
“Except for almost getting us thrown out! If hadn’t paid for the pizza you threw at that man, we wouldn’t have been able to come back!”
“Serves that jerk right! ‘Animals are stupid.’ Shows how much he knows about animals.” Beast Boy huffed.
“You’re just mad because you didn’t get anything to eat!”
“I have stuff here I can eat! I got some pickles! Those have no meat in them.” Beast Boy walked off to find the pickles. What he found was not what he expected. He ran back with a empty jar of pickles in his hand. “Who ate all my pickles?!”
“Don’t look at me! I didn’t eat them!” Cybrog said quickly.
“I wouldn’t touch them.” Raven said.
“I ate one because I was curious as to how it tasted.” Starfire admitted.
“But that doesn’t account for all the rest of them!” Beast Boy looked at Robin who was trying to get away. “Robin… you didn’t eat all of my pickles… did you?”
“Well, I was only going to eat one but by the time I had realized I had finished my first one, I had gotten another one. I didn’t realize I was eating them all until they were all gone. I couldn’t stop myself. I didn’t mean to eat them all.” Robin explained.
“Dude… if you were that hungry you should have went out for pizza with us.”
“I would have but… I didn’t want pizza.”
“They have other stuff besides pizza you know.”
“Yes. I guess I just didn’t feel like going is all.”
“Friend Robin, somesomething saddening you? We can help!”
“No Starfire. I’m just a little tired. I think I’ll just take a nap.” He walked off and the others watched him.
“I am worried about Robin. He seems so sad and he is not eating well.”
“I know what you mean Star. But you know Robin… if something’s bothering him, he’ll just ket tot to himself and try to solve it on his own.”
“Yeah. And whatever got him so worked up must be Slade related.” Beast Boy sighed. “I mean, he’s taking a nap. Robin doesn’t take naps until he’s sure he’s about to fall dead on his feet. I wish he’d stop all this Slade madness.”
“Has anyone noticed that enemies never attacked Robin after he escaped Slade?”
“Yes. I find that quite odd.” Starfire looked back towards were Robin left just a few minutes ago. “Perhaps Slade is waiting for something?”
“I don’t know but whatever it is, we have to make sure it doesn’t involve Slade trying to recapture Robin.”
“I agree.” Raven said. “But for the time being maybe we should leave Robin out of our plans to find out what‘s wrong.”
“Yeah. He might try to do this himself if he knew what we were trying to do.” Cybrog agreed.
“So it is agreed upon then?”
“Yeah. Robin is to stay in the dark about this.”
~*~*~*~*~*~
Robin laid out on his bed and sighed. For some reason he was real tired. He didn’t do anything that would have made him this sleepy. “Maybe I am catching something.” he said before he drifted off to sleep where only nightmares reign supreme.
Tbc?
So… how was it? Did you like it? Did you think something needed some improvement? Tell me! Flamers will be ignored and laughed at because they obviously have no life if they are reading something they don’t like and still flame. I told you not to read and you’re still doingeveneven if you know before you read it you don’t like this type of stuff is stupid on your part. So whoever does that is an idiot. Those flamers will be posted in the next chapter (depending on if I continue or not) with their comments and laughed at for their stupidity. But to everyone else, feel free to review me with your comments! If you really want to see a next chapter please review! Depending on how many reviews I get will determine the fate of this fic!
