“Pathetic.”

It’s the one word Raven hears to describe herself, as she is being held by Malchior, in his dragon form. Just mere moment ago she believed that she had found a friend in him, believing him to be Rorek, a heroic wizard. She thought he was entrapped in the book by his enemy, and needed her help to get out. He even offered to teach her even stronger spells, to empower her more. But it was Dark Magic, and part of his plan to escape the Book and wreak havoc over the entire world. And now, with her at his mercy, she knows she is entirely responsible for this.

“Sweet Raven, you can’t possibly hope to defeat me.” He tells her. “I taught you everything you know.”

“You taught me spells,” Raven says, trying to escape his grasp, “but I’ve just learned a curse!” It takes nearly all of her might, but she escapes, and quickly calls for the book. It flies into her hand, and she begins to read, as Malchior tries to stop her.

“NO!”

“ALDRALIN LENTRALANY SOULORANOUS NOR!!!!!”

She becomes surrounded in an aura of magical energy, which then fires off towards Malchior. He counters with a fire blast from his mouth, and it creates a power struggle. But it’s one that he cannot win. Raven’s curse begins to overpower him, and he becomes once more imprisoned within the book. She floats down to the top of Titans Tower, feeling drained of all her magical energy. As her friends gather around her, Beast Boy asks the question that no one else gets the chance to.

“OK, how the hell did we end up fighting some gigantic Dragon?” Before he can get the answer, a large explosion is seen & heard coming from Downtown Jump City. Robin takes out his Binoculars and looks towards the source, immediately gets his answer.

“It’s Control Freak.” He says. “Raven, we’re gonna need…” He looks back to see her long gone.

“My scanners show she teleported downstairs.” Cyborg says, looking at his arm scanner. “I’ll check on her, you three go handle the couch potato.”

“Right!” Robin agrees. “Titans…GO!!!”

Starfire grabs hold of Robin’s wrist and flies off with him towards the disturbance. Beast Boy transforms into a Hawk and follows after them, leaving Cyborg to himself. Or so they think. Once out of sight enough, Cyborg grins a little, knowing he’s not alone.

“They’re gone…you can come out now.” He says. A moment later, Cyborg’s Shadow starts to move on the ground. It rises into the air, takes a human form and reshapes into Raven. She says nothing to him; instead, she walks towards the door and heads down into the tower, with Cyborg following after her. “Hey, wanna tell me how that Giant Dragon appeared on the tower? And you were able to stop it?”

“Barely able.” She says, continuing down a long hallway towards her room. “And no, I don’t wanna talk about it.” She reaches her room and walks in, quickly sliding the door shut behind her. Cyborg stops in front and starts banging on the door.

“Raven, you can’t keep it to yourself this time.” He says. “Something happened, and I want an answer right now.” He gets his answer, as Raven’s door begins glowing black. A moment later, it shoots forward and pins Cyborg against an adjacent wall. It takes a moment, but he’s able to wrestle it off of him. “Not this time, Rae.” He says, walking into her room. “Now start spilling! What happened to make that Giant Dragon appear?”

Raven turns to Cyborg, Hands & eyes glowing, ready to use her powers to get rid of him. Cyborg just folds his arms over his chest, and gives her a look of seriousness. The stand off lasts for a couple of minutes, before Raven starts to see there’s no use, and he won’t back off this time. She powers down, drops her head, and starts revealing the events that lead to the epic battle moments ago.

“Alright…I found a book in my library, and I started to read it. Only the book held captive a Warlock named Rorek, who was imprisoned there by his enemy. Or so I thought. He actually turned out to be Malchior, the evil Warlock Rorek was fighting. And he taught me Dark Magic, only so I could help him escape the book so he could wreak havoc on the world. I had to use a curse to trap him within the book once more. And it nearly drained me of the power I have.”

There’s a long pause between the two, as Cyborg takes in everything that Raven has told him. He finally breaks the silence as he begins to chuckle a little, as a grin appears on his face. “Boy…and I thought Beast Boy knew how to mess up big time.”

Raven’s look turns to a shocked one, then one of anger. “Yeah, rub it in.” She says, turning away from him and feeling more depressed than before. “It was a moment of weakness. I…I just didn’t want to feel alone. It’s bad enough I don’t fit in.”

“You forgot what I told you when we first met, didn’t you?” Cyborg says, walking up behind her. “Beast Boy’s green, half of my body’s made of metal, and Starfire’s from space. You fit in just fine.”

For the first time since the beginning of the conversation, Raven lifts her head. She turns back to Cyborg, and after a moment, lunges forward and hugs him tightly; grateful for the inspirational words Cyborg just spoke. “Thanks, Cyborg…I needed that.”

“No problem.” He says, hugging her back. “But now we gotta help out our friends with Cardiac.” Realizing he’s right, Raven lets go and follows him out of the room. They dash off down the hall and towards the Main Room. “Maybe I can get a bead on them using a news broadcast.” He says. “I can connect my system into the TV, and get their exact location.”

As he runs to the TV and grabs the connecting wire, Raven notices strange sparks emitting from the back. A moment later, a large spark jumps up and out of the TV, with the image of Overload appearing on it. “Wait, Cyborg, DON’T!”

It’s too late. As soon as Cyborg connects himself into the Vid-Screen database, he’s hit with an abundance of electrical energy, almost enough to crash his systems. He starts shaking & convulsing, and sparks start flying out of him. This lasts for a moment, before it stops, and his body starts to smoke. Immediately, Raven runs over to check on him.

“Cyborg, can you hear me? Are you OK?” Cyborg slowly turns his head to look at her, and grins devilishly.

“Cyborg is not here at the moment.” WHAM! He swings his arm and bats Raven across the room. She catches herself before hitting the floor, and lands on her feet, as Cyborg stands up and faces her, looking completely possessed. “You are now speaking to Overload!”

“Crap! Somehow he must’ve gotten into the Tower’s system.” Raven thinks. “And I don’t know how to get him out. And I can’t hurt him.”

She reaches for her Titans communicator, only to have it shot out of her hands. The blast came from Cyborg’s Sonic Cannon, and now he has it aimed at her. “You’re friends will not help you. This entire stronghold now belongs to Overload! And you are now my prisoner.”

“Cyborg, if you can hear me, you have to fight it.” She tells him. “You’re not a machine. You’re still human. Fight it!”

Cyborg responds by firing off another shot, which she barely avoids. Raven decides to retreat, and flies off down the hall, being pursued by the possessed Cyborg. She reaches Cyborg’s room, and finds herself at a dead end. Before she can double back, Cyborg appears in the doorway. He fires of a beam from his Cannon, and Raven puts up a magical shield to block the blast. But it’s a weak shield, and the beam’s starting to break through.

“Cyborg…I know you’re in there.” She says. “I know you’re strong enough to fight this!”

Large cracks start to appear in her shield, and it looks ready to crumble into pieces. Raven prepares for the blast, when suddenly it deactivates. Raven looks up to see Cyborg’s body convulsing again. But this time, it looks like he’s fighting off the possession. “Raven…use system…shutdown code…on…main computer.”

Raven looks at Cyborg’s Main Computer, confused. “But I don’t know the number.”

“Model…number…” before he can give anymore information, he loses his control, and Overload regains it. “Foolish Titan. You’re plan will never succeed. Not against the…”

Raven shuts him up by entrapping him in a tight field of dark energy. “That won’t hold him for long. I have to find out what Model…” Then it hits her, right in the face as she looks at the side of the computer and sees the model number of it clear as day. She quickly activates the vocal command system and puts in the code. “Cyborg Shutdown Code: 9-1-26-19-82.”

It works. The lights emitting from Cyborg’s metallic & electronic parts slowly fade, and his system goes into shutdown mode. Quickly, Raven uses her powers to move Cyborg over to his recharging station. As soon as he’s on his tablet, Raven starts typing in a command to remove Overload from his system. Within short moments, electrical charges are sparking from his body. Overload then comes out, looking to stop Raven from her task.

“You shall not stop me, Titan!” He says. “Overload is dominant. Overload is unstoppable! OVERLOAD…”

“Talks too much!” She says, charging up for a magical blast. “Azarath Metrion ZINTHOS!!!” She fires off a powerful blast that sends Overload out of the window, out of the tower, and into the Jump City bay. Immediately his energy form dissipates, leaving only the hard drive, that sinks into the blue deep. Raven checks out of the window, and watches as it sinks.

“Good, it’s over.” She says. “Now I can…wait…” She turns towards Cyborg, and notices the look of grimace on his face. Putting her hand on his forehead, she starts to read his emotions, and figures out the problem. “His mind…it’s a scrambled mess. And he’s in tremendous pain. If I don’t do something, his consciousness might be lost.” She turns away from him, wanting to help, but reluctant to do so. “But the only spell I know that can even remotely help him…Malchior taught me.”

For a moment, she mulls over the situation. She’s willing to do anything to save a partner, her teammate…her friend. But she doesn’t trust any of what Malchior has taught her. Especially since she almost killed a little girl, just trying to stop a villain. But as she looks at Cyborg’s face once more, and sees him desperately trying to cling to his sanity, and his mind altogether, she knows what must be done. Putting both hands on Cyborg’s head, she proceeds with the chant.

“OCCANOR ETSANABUS UNICHE TERADUS!!!”

Her eyes begin to emit a dark, unearthly glow as her cloak flares up around her. It grows top the point where it surrounds herself & Cyborg, then turns jet black. Soon, everything goes entirely black. A few moments pass, and Cyborg is now lying on what looks to be a hospital bed. It’s at this moment where he wakes up in a cold sweat.

“NUUUUHHHHHHH!!!” He looks around, and sees nothing but darkness. Instinctively, he uses his arm scanner to track his location. “Where the hell am I?”

“You’re in my mind again.” Raven says, appearing out of the darkness, hooded cloak on her head. “You were in danger of losing your mind & sanity, so I had to bring you here.”

“Yeah, that’s what getting your systems taking over by an electric psychopath will do.” He says. “Heh, nice place you got here. Ever thought of upgrading?”

Raven closes her eyes and proceeds to change the scenery in her mind to more suits Cyborg. What she gets, it’s him lying on a large, pink, heart-shaped bed. “OK…a little more than I expected.”

She falls forward onto the bed, catching herself with her arms. “Sorry…it’s harder to control my emotions now.” She tells him. “I used…one of the spells…Malchior…”

She stops suddenly in mid-sentence, and looks up at Cyborg. Animal instinct takes over, and a seductive grin grows across her face. Before Cyborg can react, Raven leaps onto him, kissing him passionately as she straddles him. Already Raven is sensing his emotions, and she knows he meant every word. Slowly, within herself, she begins dropping the safe guards that block her full emotions from coming out. “I believe our friends are in here!”

“Starfire!” Raven says under her breath, instantly recognizing it. Snapping her fingers, an orb of magic appears and wraps around her, making her outfit. She then covers up Cyborg and walks to the door, just as Robin, Beast Boy & Starfire get there.

“I heard the Tower alarm go off here.” Robin says. “What happened?”

“Overload.” Raven tells him. “But me & Cyborg were able to handle him. No trouble.”

Beast Boy peeks inside the room and notices Cyborg recharging on his tablet. “Uh, why does Cy need to recharge?” He asks. “It hasn’t been two years yet.”

“Overload took over his body.” Raven says. “Messed with his systems, and he needs to recharge himself.”

“Yeah but, he looks just tired after a night of—…”

Raven uses her powers to cork Beast Boy’s mouth shut, as she walks off down towards her room. Her emotions are once again locked-up, as a safe guard to keep her from losing control. But she’ll never forget that Cyborg gave her the chance to release them, and feel unrestricted for the first time in her life.
