Part Seven: Afterglow
Nestled into Bruce's arms, Diana rested her head against his chest. "Your Princess commands you to kiss her." He raised an eyebrow. It seems a little late in the game to start kissing now, but I guess Amazons play by different rules. Seeing her cuddled against him brought out a flood of tenderness, and he gently kissed her on the forehead.
She looked up at him, suddenly looking vulnerable. Her eyes were liquid and wide. "You can really be sweet when you try, Bruce" was all she could think to say, and she snuggled against his chest again, her face suddenly moist.
His throat caught a bit. Once he heard the relaxed sounds of her sleeping, he knew it was time to make the call he had sworn he'd never make. Moving as little as possible, he fished out his cell phone from the clothes piled on the far side of the bed.
"Alfred?"
"Sir?" Night or day, always there, always loyal. Priceless in anyone, but particularly in my case.
He didn't bother with preambles. "Could you call the office and inform them I'm not coming in tomorrow. We’ll have to reschedule that teleconference."
There was an almost imperceptible pause. "I shall make your excuses, Master Bruce… Themysciran fever, sir? I hear it's quite serious."
He rolled his eyes. Everyone's a comedian where my love life is concerned. "Just do it, Alfred," he growled.
