Robin’s Revenge
Robin’s mind raced, fury burning in his eyes. Even Starfire was starting to get uncomfortable around him. “Robin please,” she begged, “you are not making this anger go away.” But the titan leader was carried away with his wrath. “I…will…get…back…at…her,” he said as his breathing became irregular. “I will them. I will make them pay. I will crush the HIVE. There will be no mercy.” He got up and left for his room.
“Is it safe to come back,” Beast Boy peering around the corner. “I worry about Robin,” Starfire said, her voice expressing to the full extent her concern. “What do you think we can do?” the green titan asked. “I do not know,” Starfire said as she sat down. “You ok?” Beast Boy asked, “You seem really down?” Starfire looked at her friend. “Robin is such a good friend, I feel terrible about what happened to him.”
For a while, the two titans wondered if there was something that they could do something that would calm Robin down. “Hey guys,” Cyborg said, “uh...why are you guys just sitting there?” “I’m tryin’ to help Star figure out how she could help Robin. He’s pissed.” Just then, their transceivers went off. “Yeah,” Cyborg said answering, “what’s up Robin?” “Every meet me in the front room. I have a plan to take down the HIVE.” Robin clicked off the transmission. “Guess we should get over there,” Cyborg said.
Beast Boy, Starfire, and Cyborg sat on the couch waiting. “What do you think Robin thought of?” the green titan asked. “I just hope its not going to be suicidal,” Cyborg said. “But Robin would not take us on such a dangerous mission, would he?” Starfire said. “No,” Robin said walking up behind them. He seemed to be in lighter spirits. “You seem to be better,” Beast Boy said, “Why?” Robin grinned, “Because I am going to make Jinx pay dearly. All we need now is Raven. She’s going to be key.” “But do you even know where the HIVE headquarters are?” Cyborg said skeptically, “I mean if Jinx tricked you about being sorry, what makes you think that she would be telling the truth about their hideout?” “You remember I told you that she took me to some apartment complex? When the ground broke under me and she helped me up, I put a small tracking bug on her sleeve. I didn’t think anything of it since I thought she was dead. But since she isn’t, I can trace her down.” “So why did you take so long in your room?” Beast Boy asked. “It was ten minutes,” Robin said. “Oh, well what are we waiting for?” “Raven. She’s meditating. When she’s done, we leave.”
When Raven finally came down, Robin had laid out a detailed plan of attack. “Raven,” Robin said, “You ready?” Beast Boy and the others looked at Robin, “She already knows?” Beast Boy asked. “I saw her go to the roof to meditate. I told her what I was up to and she agreed to the plan. Now let's get ‘em. Raven?” The dark sorceress enveloped the team and teleported them to the front of the HIVE headquarters.
The titans stood in front of the building, getting ready to strike. “You sure that you want to do this Robin,” Starfire asked. “Yeah dude, we could just wait for her to leave and ambush her. It’s a lot safer.” “No, we’re going to get in there and bring the place down,” Robin said as he approached the HIVE headquarters. Blinded from the obvious by his contempt for Jinx, he walked right past security cameras.
Inside, the HIVE was busy getting ready for the titans. Robin had set off a silent alarm. “Hurry up,” they called out to one another. “Get ready! Go!” With all the hustling about, the Jinx sat watching the others rushing about. “Poor Robin,” she thought, “So cute yet so easily manipulated.” “You ready,” Gizmo said walking up to her. Jinx gave a devilish smile. “I’ll take that as a yes,” and Gizmo ran to meet up with the other HIVE members. “You did well,” Jinx heard as a hand rested on her shoulder. “My pleasure,” the pink girl said looking up at the HIVE leader, “I’m surprised that this was going to be so easy.” “Like I said child, you did well,” Brother Blood said as he organized the rest of the HIVE into there positions under Jinx command, a reward for luring the titans. “Oh, and since you did so well, you shall have the honor of killing the titans.” “This is it,” Jinx thought, “My name shall be known forever.”
Outside, Robin looked around, not a soul to be seen. “Think they’re expecting us?” Beast Boy asked. “Probably.” Robin answered, “Now Raven, do us the honor of knocking out there door.” “I can do that!” Cyborg exclaimed, “Why does she have too?” “Because the last time you blasted a wall you knocked yourself out.” Raven used her powers to open the HIVE building as Cyborg scowled. Upon entering, Beast Boy asked the question that was on the rest of the titan’s minds, “Uh Robin, what exactly are we going to do?” Robin turned to his friend, “We are going to stop them,” he said as he pulled out a couple of his explosive discs. “If you plan on blowing the place up, don’t you think that you should have brought something a little more powerful?” “These,” Robin answered, “are for them.” Throwing the discs down the hall, a few tardy HIVE students were thrown by the resulting explosion. “That takes care of them,” Beast Boy smiled, “but how are...” “The foundation,” Robin said before the green titan could reiterate his question, “if we take out the supports we’ll stop them.” “Then we should head to the basement,” Cyborg said.
Making their way down the hall, there was surprisingly no resistance. “Think there out to lunch,” Beast Boy joke. “More likely that they’re waiting to trap us,” Raven responded. “It was a joke. Geez,” the green titan muttered. Coming to a fork in the hall, the titans were now at a major decision. If they went down the hall, they could end up being trapped. “Which way,” Beast Boy asked. “My scanners are saying that they’re that way,” Cyborg said pointing left. “Then that’s where we go,” Robin said. “Please Robin, let us go the other direction. We will not be able to overcome such a vast army.” Starfire’s suggestion did have its logic but should they go right, they would have the HIVE at their backs, a risky proposition. “I would except that there are a few problems with that,” Robin said as he looked right. “There are too many traps that way.” “Dude, I don’t see any.” To prove his point, Robin grabbed another of his discs and tossed it down the hall, where it was promptly shot down by sentry guns. “Wouldn’t there be some of those the other way? I mean farther down?” Beast Boy said. “Damn it! You’re right Beast Boy,” Robin said, “now what? I should have thought about that.” “We could go forward,” Cyborg said deploying his cannon and blasting the wall straight ahead. “Wait!” But the metal titan had already fired. But unlike last time, there was no bomb behind the wall. “Well let’s go,” Robin said.
Down the hall, the HIVE stood ready for the titans to approach. “Where are they,” Jinx said becoming impatient. When Cyborg knocked out the wall, she ordered the rest of the HIVE to go. She was in charge and was going to make sure that she did not fail. The horde of HIVE students moved down the hall like a swarm, rushing to be the one that would deal the fatal blow to the titans. But when the first of them came, the titans had already left. “Shit!” Jinx exclaimed, furious that the titans were gone. “Well do just stand there, get moving.” The HIVE students followed the order and started making there way through the hole in the wall. As the first of them entered, they were blasted back out by light blue beams of energy and some of them were enveloped in black magic. The rest of the HIVE students charged under Jinx’s order who hoped that the numbers would overrun the teen titans.
“They won’t stop coming,” Cyborg screamed as he fired his cannon again and again. “Then let's make sure each of them get a chance,” Robin shouted as he tossed a bird-a-rang to knock down a light fixture on the ceiling. The crash slammed into a couple HIVE members, reducing their enemies’ numbers but it wasn’t enough. “Titans move,” the boy wonder said moving back. “let's go,” Cyborg echoed. Slowing backing up, the titans were forced against a wall and nowhere to go. The HIVE students had the titans in the best position that they could have hoped for. But before they overwhelmed the titans, they stopped.
“Well I guess you’ve run out of luck,” Jinx taunted as she made her way through her army. “Tell me something Robin, who are you more upset at? Me for tricking you or yourself for believing me?” Robin glared at Jinx. “I came here to get back at you and I will, and I hate you!” “You’re telling me that you didn’t like last night,” she mocked. “I don’t even want to remember. It was a mistake and I will not make it again,” Robin glared at the pink sorceress. “No you won’t. Third times a charm.” “What is this charm?” Starfire asked. “Means that...” Robin started before being interrupted. “Means that this time, I get what I really want, your death.” Jinx raised her hand, “Oh and by the way, there never was a problem with me.” “I should have known, but before you kill me, I have one last thing I want to say.” “A last request, how sweet,” Jinx smiled evilly, “Go ahead.” Robin turned to Starfire, “I should have realized this along time ago Star; I love you.” Starfire looked at Robin with teary eyes as she hugged him. “Oh Robin,” she wailed holding him close, “I love you too.” “Aww isn’t that so sweet,” Jinx mocked, “Kill ‘em.”
“I don’t think so,” Raven said raising a black wall. The titans were engulfed in the dark magic and vanished. “Where did they go,” Jinx yelled. “I don’t see them,” a voice in the crowd said. “I know that! They’re still here. Robin won’t leave ‘til he gets me. Find them!” The HIVE student dispersed, searching the HIVE headquarters everywhere.
Up on the roof, the titans assessed their situation. “Well that was a complete loss,” Cyborg said. “We just need to take them down separately. If we can split them up, we can take them down.” Robin reasoned. “But how are we to get them in separated.” “I think they’ve already done that for us,” Raven said looking over the edge. Down in the front of the HIVE quarter, dozens of HIVE undergrads searched for the titans. “Where are they?” they shouted. “Raven, think can you find Jinx’s location?” “Not the exact spot, but I sense she is on the third floor and with three others with her. Though I don’t know who,” the dark teen said. The others looked at her in amazement. “Hey, you asked.” “Yeah. Get us there,” Robin said. Again, Raven consumed the titans in darkness and teleported them.
Back inside the HIVE building, the titans looked around to see if one of the HIVE patrols was near. “Hey guys,” Beast Boy said. “Shh,” the others hushed him. “Sorry,” he whispered, “they’re over there.” “How do you know,” Robin said, “I didn’t see anyone.” “These ears are more than just good looking,” the green titan boasted. The teen titans stealthily crept down the hall. Silent and methodical, the titans took out one HIVE member after another until Jinx was alone. While the others made sure that other HIVE students were taken down, Robin made his presence known to Jinx by tossing an explosive disc right past her head. The pink sorceress turned around, finding herself alone. “Where are the others?” she sneered, “All alone?” The titan leader stared at Jinx, his eyes piercing straight into her eyes. “You want to get me? You can’t. That knock out drug was more than that. You should be feeling deathly ill about now.” But nothing happened. Standing toe to toe, the two were about the clash in a fierce battle. “Why aren’t you bent over in pain? You immune?” Robin smirked. “Should have thought about how long it would take to take effect. I’m already cured. Now, you’re going to pay.”
Robin pulled out his bow as Jinx used her powers to tried and stop the titan leader’s attack. But fueled by anger and adrenaline, the boy wonder dodged the onslaught of hexes. “Come on,” Jinx yelled at herself, “I can’t fail now, not since I’ve come so far. And the headmaster put me in charge. I must win.” But it was not to be. Robin swing the metal rod square into Jinx’s hip, shattering the bone and sending the pink sorceress to the ground. Holding her side and writhing in pain, Jinx had one option, to beg for mercy. “Please Robin, you don’t understand. I couldn’t walk away from everything I’ve known,” Jinx looked at the angered titan. “It won’t work, not this time,” Robin glared. “Well that’s too bad,” Jinx said clenching her teeth. In a last ditch effort to save herself, she used her powers on the floor underneath her. The ground crumbled and Jinx disappeared into the darkness, making her great escape.
Before Robin could follow, the others came back. “Are you still not happy?” Starfire asked. “She got away. I wasn’t fast enough.” “Dude, we totally smashed them,” Beast Boy pointed out. “I have one more thing I want to do,” the titan leader said pulling out a bomb. “Raven after I press the button, get us the hell out of her. This will knock this place down.” The dark teen nodded and Robin triggered the bomb and tossed it down the hall. Immediately, Raven took her friends out of the HIVE headquarters and back to Titan’s Tower.
