Notes: Man, I completely forgot to upload this outside of HF. Enjoy! A bit of a different turn to the way the current canon is going but hey :). As always tell me what you think, the more feedback I get the more I'm honestly likely to do this again.

“You know, I could get to like this,” said Sarah, lounging on Ellen's bed in the twins' shared bedroom. Elliot glanced at her from where he was sitting at the messy study desk in the corner of the room, shifting a book from the stack he was sorting through. Sarah smiled back.

“Nice to just relax rather than going out for a date. Not that I don't enjoy going to the movies or out for a meal,” she added quickly, then gestured to the sketchbook on her lap, “but even when we're both busy it's nice just to be busy together.”

Elliot grinned wryly. “I think you've got the best of it.. If you want to trade I'd be happy to.”

Sarah giggled. “Not unless you've suddenly developed a talent for character design. I'm not sure all that math homework will have gotten you in the mindset for that. Sorry for distracting you, get back to work.”

Elliot sighed and went back to pawing through equations and copying out the last few quadratics he had to solve. After another five minutes he groaned and slid the sheets away, pushing the chair back.

“I don't think I can take any more of this, I'll finish the rest before I go to bed. You want a drink?”

“Mmm, would be nice actually. It's pretty warm in here.”

“Old brick house,” Elliot said, gesturing to the walls. “You don't really notice it unless you live here, but it takes a while to heat up and a while to cool down. It'll be nicer outside this time of afternoon, let's go have a lemonade out back.”

Sarah shunted her pad and pencil wallet onto the bed next to her and bounced up, smoothing her skirt. She followed her boyfriend out and down the cramped stairs to the well used lounge that opened onto the back of the house. Elliot grabbed two bottles of pop from the old bar fridge in the corner of the room and passed one to her as she opened the back door.

The Dunkels' back yard was, like everything in their house, old but well preserved. Hedges lined the walls and a small spa pool took up a corner of the yard, overgrown grass filling the rest. Stained deck chairs and a low wooden table were scattered about, clearly well-used over summer. Sarah grinned at the newly installed squirrel feeder, currently playing host to a particularly large specimen. Elliot's parents were in the final stages of shifting some bags onto the back seat of the family's old station wagon. As Elliot joined her, Mrs Dunkel called out that they were going to visit friends. Sarah had to try hard to avoid laughing as Elliot took the list of directions of what to eat, what to drink and what not to set on fire with his usual polite quietness. She'd once thought it was shyness or awkwardness but had since come to love the way Elliot simply took things in stride. Anyone who lived around Tedd Verres, she had come to understand, had a measure of that confidence.

This also meant she and Elliot had the run of the house for the evening. She was planning on staying over on the couch while her sister moved boxes up and down the corridor outside her room. Ellen was at a movie night with Nanase, so Sarah and Elliot had planned on hogging the couch and doing the same. Without the Dunkel parents around, however, Sarah wondered just how much time they would spend with their faces aimed at the screen...

She relaxed back in the warm evening air and drank deeply from the bottle of lemonade as Elliot stretched out on the lawn. She flushed a little more than the heat would have normally caused her to. Elliot laughed and picked up his bottle, having one last stretch as he sat down beside her and lounged on the deckchair.

“Well, it's nice to know all this work I've been doing has been for good purpose,” he said, making a shooing hand gesture as if to suggest all the times he'd actually had to use his training to good effect were of no consequence compared to being something good for Sarah to look at. She laughed at the feigned posturing, amusement and desire bubbling in her like the cool, refreshing lemonade.

She put the bottle down and moved over to Elliot, pausing a moment to catch his eye. Then she pushed his hand holding the bottle down and slid onto the chair beside him. “Here, hotstuff. Let me give you a taste of something else.”
