Metropolis
Robin focused his binoculars on the attractive, light brunette haired young woman as she stepped out from the high end bistro, where she had dined alone. She continued to trek down the sidewalk completely unaware of her pursuer.
He had been following her all day, from the rooftops, staying out of sight. So far she had not made one suspicious move. He was beginning to think that this mission Batman had sent him on was a waste of time. Surely this teenage girl had nothing to do with the likes of Lasso Girl and her gang.
However he began to grow suspicious as she abruptly turned off the busy sidewalk and down a darkened alley. Robin dropped silently into the shadows and continued his pursuit. A rather unpleasant smell was coming from a couple of rusty dumpsters that he was all too glad to pass. Discarded wooden crates and other assorted debris littered the passage. The brick and mortar walls of two neighboring buildings loomed to his left and right blocking out a great deal of the waning sunlight.
He watched Celeste disappear into a rising cloud of steam wafting from an open vent. It momentarily obscured his view of her.
He hung back for a bit then followed, wading his way through the steam, and came face to face with a sheer brick wall. It was a dead end. The girl was nowhere to be found.
“Why have you been following me?”
Robin whipped around. Celeste was standing behind him with a look of curiosity on her face. How had she gotten past him? In such a narrow alley it would’ve been impossible.
Not wanting to take any chances, Robin rushed forward and quickly pinned her shoulders against the wall. She made no move to resist, instead remaining silent as he began searching her. There wasn’t even the slightest hint of worry or fear visible on her face. She was way too calm to be in this situation, he thought.
“Why are you doing this?” she asked quietly. “I haven’t done anything wrong.”
“Save it,” Robin shot back. “I’m not going to fall for an innocent act twice.”
The lesson he had taken from Tangle was still fresh in his memory. He had learned the hard way that no matter how harmless or innocent seeming an opponent was, he should never let his guard down. And even if this girl wasn’t guilty of any wrongdoing he could simply apologize later. But for now he would play it safe.
“Is this what superheroes usually do- stop people walking down the street, go through their belongings, and invade their privacy? The police wouldn’t--”
Robin grinned slightly. “I’m not the police.”
At least she was finally showing some sort of reaction. Rummaging through her purse he found a slim, polished metal container with an ornate engraving on it. The container appeared to be very old and well worn. Inside were four glass vials, about the size of his ring finger, filled with a conspicuous dark purple liquid.
As he turned his attention back to the girl to question her, something caught his eye. She was wearing an expensive looking crystal pendant. It was sky blue and in the shape of a dragon-like serpent. A few of the top buttons on Celeste’s red blouse were undone allowing him a perfect view of the pendant as it lay nestled on top of her full breasts. Robin found his gaze somehow drawn to it. Had it been there before? He couldn’t quite remember.
“Are you done yet? Can I go now?” she asked smiling sweetly at him.
“Sure you can—” he started then stopped himself.
What the hell had made him say that? He hadn’t even questioned her yet.
“Wait a minute. You aren’t going anywhere,” he said firmly.
Celeste’s smile faded but the look in her dazzling green eyes suggested she was not totally disappointed. The Boy Wonder noticed with an unexplainable fascination as the girl reached for the pendant and began to toy with it between her nicely manicured fingers. He found himself staring intently at the trinket once again. Several moments passed before he snapped out of his temporary daze with a start- though it seemed to take more effort than before.
He remembered the strange vials still in his hand and held them up in front of her.
“What is this stuff? Where did you get it?” Robin demanded.
Celeste let out a heavy sigh and rolled her eyes.
“So many questions and so little time. You really should let me go now. It would be for your own good.”
The girl’s indifferent attitude and dismissive tone angered the teenage crime fighter. Did she think this was some sort of game? He grabbed her roughly about the shoulders and pulled her close.
“You are going to give me some answers whether you like it or not,” he said menacingly. “Did you put some of this liquid into Clark Kent’s coffee?”
“Yes,” she answered plainly.
“So you admit it then?”
“Yes.”
“Why? Did someone put you up to this? If they threatened you in any way you can tell me. I’ll protect you.”
She tilted her head to the side, looking him up and down. “Will you? Well that’s very noble of you, Robin. Unfortunately I’m not the one in need of protection at the moment.”
“What do you mean?” he asked.
She stared him straight in the eyes and quickly uttered something under her breath. It sounded strange, almost like a chant or incantation.
He was about to ask what she had said when it felt as if some unseen force had struck him, filling his every sense. It was like he was seeing her clearly for the first time- almost like he had not truly seen her up close until this very moment. Of course Robin had noticed earlier, as he spied her through his binoculars that she was quite beautiful. However now she appeared irresistibly stunning.
She was much younger than any of the villains or run of the mill thugs he usually faced- not to mention much more attractive. Her vibrant green eyes studied him carefully, almost searching for something. Her scent was absolutely intoxicating and made it hard for him to think clearly. Robin found himself staring blankly, forgetting why he had stopped her.
“Wasn’t there some questions you wanted me to answer?” she asked innocently.
“Uh…I,” Robin stammered.
He shook his head, trying to reshuffle his thoughts. His usually sharp mind seemed dulled like a thick fog had settled in. He struggled to think clearly and find his words.
“Um…yes, what is in these vials you had with you? I want you to--
“No.” interrupted Celeste. “I want you to do something for me.”
It was all wrong. She was somehow doing something to his mind, he realized. It felt similar but at the same time different to his encounters with Poison Ivy and he knew well enough from those experiences that this was no ordinary girl. She was dangerous. Robin stepped back, equipping a batarang, and raised his arm ready to strike.
Celeste stealthily raised the amulet she was wearing to avert his gaze. It began to glow, faintly at first, then increasing in intensity, giving off a vibrant and otherworldly indigo light. It sparked and glimmered with each movement of her long, elegant fingers. Robin didn’t dare look away. He couldn’t.
“That’s it, Robin. Just stare into my crystal,” she encouraged in a soft, soothing tone. “See how beautiful and captivating it is?”
The Boy Wonder found himself listening intently to her. She was right. It was absolutely mesmerizing- somehow all at once the most remarkable and alluring sight he had ever seen. The crystal called to him, beckoning him to look at it.
Robin felt his arm gradually lower to his side. He felt his grip on the batarang loosen, his fingers almost moving on their own accord.
“That’s right, Robin,” she praised. “I’m not your enemy and you don’t want to fight me.”
It didn’t even register as he heard the slight clang as his weapon, his one last chance to fight her, drop harmlessly to the ground.
Celeste shifted her wrist causing the pendant to sway back and forth ever so slightly on its thin silver chain. The superhero’s eyes followed it unwaveringly on it’s pendulum like path.
“You can see something within its glow now, Robin. The harder you look the more you can see it. With each word I utter, it makes it that much harder for you to look away. You feel very relaxed now. Every muscle in your body is loose and you’ve never felt more at ease. It’s like you are drifting on a fluffy white cloud without a care in the world.”
All he could bring himself to do, all he wanted to do now, was listen to her calming, sultry tones.
“You want to obey me…obey me…obey whatever I tell you to do. It makes you feel so very good to listen to my voice…to follow every word I say. You know you it’s utterly useless to resist it, Robin. With every breath you take you can feel yourself falling further and further under my power- and that’s exactly where you want to be. It’s all you’ve ever wanted.”
Everything sounded so right. Robin felt relieved that there was no danger after all. Celeste was fine and meant him no harm. He had never been more at ease or experienced such a feeling of warmth and comfort.
“Your eyes feel like lead, Robin…soooo heavy. All you want to do is close your eyes and rest. But before you do that, I want you take off your utility belt and hand it to me.”
Without hesitation the teenage crime fighter reached around behind him and unfastened his yellow utility belt, containing all of his weapons and gear, and delivered it to Celeste’s waiting hand.
“Yes, that’s very nice, Robin” she said happily. “How does it make you feel to do what I say?”
“Good.”
“Excellent. Now that you know who you’re superior is I want you to refer to me as ‘princess’ or ‘mistress’ from now on. Is that clear, my pet?”
The Boy Wonder nodded, automatically answering like a robot. “Yes I understand perfectly, mistress.”
Celeste giggled at his response.
“Lasso Girl told me you superheroes were weak willed but I never thought it would be this simple. You’ve been one of my easiest conquests yet. Now be a good boy and get down on your hands and knees- and kiss my shoes.”
Robin dutifully knelt down and placed his lips against the smooth red leather. He began plastering her left shoe with loving kisses, going from toe to heel, before moving on to her right. He kissed them long and deep, totally and completely focused on his task.
“That’s it…you’re obeying your mistress very well,” praised Celeste. “You’ll learn to love doing this. In fact you’ll live only to obey your mistress and fulfill her every command to the letter. Is that also clear?”
“Yes absolutely, mistress.”
“Good. Now since I’ve been standing in this disgustingly filthy alleyway for so long, I want you to do one more thing while you’re down there. I want you to lick my shoes clean. Make them shine, slave.”
Robin had no choice but to carry out her orders. He began licking the dirt and grit from the bottom of her shoes- cleaning them thoroughly and eagerly with his tongue. He probed every inch and nook like a mindless zombie.
Celeste laughed with sheer delight as she watched her new pet, occasionally moving her leg to allow him a better angle to lick. She raised her shoe off the ground and slid the pointed heel into his mouth, watching with a smirk as he closed his eyes and sucked on it like a piece of candy. After being satisfactorily convinced of the superhero’s loyalty and humored by his level of degradation, she ordered him to stop.
“Now I want you to look up for me, Robin. Here’s a little something else that Lasso Girl taught me.”
Celeste leisurely drew her leg back, savoring the moment. Then she maliciously launched the toe of her red five inch heeled pump flush against his jaw. The blow ricocheted off the Boy Wonder’s face with a sickening thud, jarring his head back and knocking him out cold.
She placed her foot on the back of his head and bent over slightly, resting her arm on her knee.
“That’s one little bird out of the way,” she mused. “Now it’s only a matter of time until we get the others.”
