The rest of the afternoon was just chatting and getting ready for the dinner. Sabrina asked Tammy if she wanted to come. She said she would only agree if her mother said it was OK. Sabrina was going to have to call her mom anyway to let her know Chris was here; so why not one more. She really didn't see it as being a problem. She picked up the phone and dialed her mother's number. Several rings later she was talking with her mother.
"Hello." Said Endora.
"Hi mom."
"Hi dear, how was your afternoon?"
"Good, just wanted to be sure you got my messages."
"Yes I did, seems it's going to be a full table tonight. Thanks for giving me some warning. Margrette and I got a few extra things for dinner."
"That's one reason I called, how is Margrette?" She didn't really remember Margrette, she had been introduced to her but that's about as far as it went.
"She's well, it's been a long trip for her. You're in for a surprise when you see her."
"Well I don't remember her much, I think you introduced me but I really didn't pay attention."
"It's OK, you'll have plenty of time to introduce yourself when you get here." Endora paused and when she spoke again her tone was entirely different. "Sabrina, I want to have a word with you. We met your Employer at the hospital. She was quite upset thinking it was you in there. Why didn't you tell her about your twin sister?"
Sabrina’s body just sank like the Titanic, oh this didn't bode well, she thought. "You met Zig Zag at the hospital?" Boy, she must have flipped when she saw my twin in that bed, she thought.
"She was yelling at a nurse trying to get "you" into a private room."
"Oh-Oh...!" Going down, down, down, she hated this sinking feeling.
"You are going to have to apologize to her and I want to be there to see it." Her mother said in a stern tone.
Sabrina knew that her mom was not at all happy with her from her tone of voice. She had been in situations like this before and she knew her mother was serious. "Mom I'll tell her tomorrow at work, you don't need to come and see. I'll go into work specifically for that."
"No, you'll tell her tonight when you see her at dinner."
Sabrina was surprised to hear that. "What! You invited her to dinner ... MOM!"
"Yes I did, she seemed very nice, after she calmed down. She also put your sister in a private room, under her company's insurance."
"She did that?" She had underestimated Zig Zag again. Sabrina felt sick. She was going to have to come up with a really good apology now.
"Yes, you have some major apologizing to do young lady. I'll see you soon dear, think of what you're going to say. Try to come a little early, I love you but today you disappointed me." The phone went dead and Sabrina gently put it back on its cradle, she sighed.
Sabrina sat down and thought about what just happened. Caught and hung out to dry, oh how she hated this feeling. Why did Zig Zag have to be so outgoing? She thought. On top of it all she likes me a lot more than I wished she did. Geesh if I had told her I had an identical twin sister I would have never heard the end of it. Plus she would have had her come to the studio and shown her everything. Its bad enough that I know what my boss looks like on the outside and the inside but to have my sister know as well. Sabrina would have been so embarrassed. I just couldn't do that to her. Now everything has backfired, DAMN! She pounded her fists on the bed in anger and in a small way it did help some.
The small group stood on Sabrina's mother's doorstep. "Are you ready?" Asked Thomas.
"Just ring the door bell." Said Amy impatiently.
The sound of the bell could be heard outside and soon Endora came to the door.
"Hello everyone, come on in. It's so good to see you all." Sabrina had gotten them here early, that was good.
"Mrs. Mustelidae, this is for you." Thomas said as he handed Endora a bottle of wine.
"Why Thomas, that's very nice of you and Amy, thank you. Just put your coats in the closet and go on in and meet my friend Margrette."
Sabrina and the others headed for the living room and when they entered Margrette rose from the couch to greet them. Sabrina, Chris, Amy, Thomas and Tammy's jaws all dropped to the floor. None of them were expecting to see a fitness poster girl. All of them had seen them in magazines but here was one live and in person. They all knew that she had to be healthier than all of them combined. Everyone tried to keep their composure and tried not to stare.
"Hello everyone, I'm Margrette but I'm sure you all know that." She gave them a big smile trying to put on her best face. She still was a bit uncomfortable among strangers. Seeing Endora's Sabrina there amongst them almost made her cry but she held back her tears. It had been a long time since she had seen her but she really hadn't changed all that much.
Endora came in and quickly made the introductions, knowing how Margrette was around strange people. "Margrette this is Amy and her fiancé Thomas, with them is Tammy, a friend of Sabrina's and of course you know Sabrina. Lastly is Sabrina's fiancé, Chris."
"It's nice to meet all of you." She said in kind. "Especially you Sabrina, you remind me so much of my own daughter."
"She's wonderful Mrs. Johnston, we have a lot in common."
"I can just imagine, come tell me all about your meeting. That must have been something really spectacular."
With the introductions over, the night began in conversation. They had only to wait for two more people then dinner could begin. Everyone got into the conversation about fitness and everyone asked Margrette how much she could lift. The number that she responded with put Chris aback, she could almost lift him up over her head with no problems. This was one fit woman, he thought; it also put thoughts about the gym back into his head. It wasn't long before the doorbell rang.
"Sabrina could you get that?" Said Endora.
She sighed, knowing it had to be her that opened the door, "OK I'm getting it." She approached the door with hesitation but soon she had turned the knob and opened the door. She was about to say, "Hi Zig Zag" but she couldn't get the words out. In front of her stood the largest female otter she had ever seen. She was huge, Sabrina had to stare up at her to see her face, which gave her the feeling of being very small. Her arms dwarfed anything she had seen on a man. She was broad at the shoulders with a very narrow waist. She also had a pair of breasts that came as close to the term watermelons as could be. Before Sabrina got a word out of her mouth she was picked up by this massive creature and almost hugged to death. She started screaming for her mother.
"MOM! HEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPP!"
The sound of Sabrina's screaming brought everyone running for the doorway. However it was Margrette who was the most surprised by the situation.
"Kathren! What on Earth are you doing here?" She said with astonishment.
"Margrette, Oh it's so good to see you. I knew I had found the right house as soon as Sabrina opened the door."
The giant was smiling from ear to ear.
"Ah, could you put me down please, I'm getting airsick." Said Sabrina sarcastically.
"Oh sorry about that Sabrina, I got carried away." She gently put Sabrina back down. Sabrina took a deep breath and stared up at Kathren. She was still awestruck at her size and strength. Margrette took it upon herself to make the introductions.
"Everyone I would like you to meet Kathren, a personal friend of mine from back home." "Kathren this is my best friend Endora Mustelidae, beside her is Amy Squirrel and her fiancé Thomas Wolfe, Tammy, Chris and last but not least Sabrina. Who is not the Sabrina you know."
"What!" She said in surprise and took another quick look at her. "I don't understand Margrette."
"It's a long story, one I will fill you in on in a minute. Endora could I use your husband's den for a few minutes, I want to get Kathren up to speed here."
"No problem there. Down the hall and to the right."
"Thanks Endora."
"Kathren, come with me, we have a lot to talk about." She really didn't need this, she thought. She knew why Kathren had come but it was just one more thing that she didn't want to worry about.
When the two women were out of hearing range they all began to talk.
"I have never seen a larger woman in my life." Said Amy.
"She sure is big, that's for sure and in all the right places." Said Thomas.
Amy gave Thomas a glaring look and he smiled politely back.
"She picked me up like I was a feather, I'm sure she could have tossed me across the room no problem." Sabrina exclaimed.
"Well one thing is for sure Margrette was not expecting her at all. This may complicate things a little more. I'll go set one more plate. I might have to make that two, she looks as though she could eat for two anyway." Endora said as she headed for the kitchen.
"Yeah that's for sure." Said Tammy as she was glancing at her own arm muscles that appeared in comparison to be very small.
Sabrina was about to shut the door when she heard someone clear his or her throat. She turned and there was her boss Zig Zag, in a beautiful but very conservative dress. Sabrina found herself speechless.
"Hello everyone." Said Zig Zag.
It seemed that Zig was trying to behave in the best manner possible and Sabrina was surprised to find her doing so. It was a bit unnerving. "Everyone this is Zig Zag my employer. Zig to the far right is Chris, then Tammy, Thomas and Amy. Mom's in the kitchen and Margrette is around here somewhere with a friend of hers.
"Hi." Said everyone in almost unison.
Sabrina took Zig Zag's coat and showed her to the living room. As she walked by Sabrina grabbed her arm and spoke to her quietly. "I want to talk to you privately a little later." Zig Zag nodded and headed toward the living room where all the guests had gathered. This was going to be a fun evening she thought.
Margrette closed the door after Kathren. "OK here's the deal, you answer my questions first then I'll answer yours."
"That's fine. It's good to see you again Margrette, I've missed you."
There was a tone of truth to Kathren's voice that she knew too well. "Me too, now who told you I was here?" She knew pretty well who told her but she had told a few people where she was going.
"Frank did."
"He wasn't supposed to tell you I was away."
"I phoned every 5 mins; until he finally broke down and told me."
"Oh boy! OK, so what did he tell you exactly?"
"Not as much as I had hoped but he said his aunt had died and that you had to fly out on short notice. He gave me the phone number at which you could be reached. I took it on myself to find the address and fly down." She was smiling and looking at Margrette with a gleam in her eye.
"You didn't have to do this." She said trying to make sense of all this.
"With your aunt dying I thought you would need support and help. So I caught the first flight out and here I am."
"You must have almost caught the flight I took. So where are you staying?"
"Actually I just got off the plane."
"What! You must be exhausted.” She shook her head, “Well this isn't my house, if it was you could have stayed here. I'll get Endora to take you to my aunt's place. The keys to the apartment were in her purse when they recovered it. You can stay there. OK, your turn."
Kathren took a breath, "Who is that out there? And if that's not Sabrina where is she?"
"That is Sabrina's twin sister; it's been a family secret for years until now. My Sabrina is in the hospital, in a coma."
"What!" The large otter said in complete surprise. "How?"
"She was in an accident with my aunt who died of the injuries she sustained. Sabrina received many cuts, bruises and a broken arm. Plus a severe head injury, she slipped into a coma not long after. It's a waiting game now Kathren."
"Oh my, I'm so sorry." The giant otter put her arms around Margrette and gave her a gentle hug. "What do the doctors say?"
In the embrace of the giant otter, Margrette felt somehow relieved, she felt safe in the arms of Kathren. "They won't know until she awakens, they told me brain injuries are tricky things."
"I'm so sorry, I'm so glad I came now."
Margrette could here Kathren’s reassurance. In a very soft voice Margrette replied "I am too."
The two held each other for sometime then finally let go. The large otter had tears in her eyes. Margrette found a tissue and wiped them away. "For someone as big and as tough as you, you sure get emotional."
The large otter smiled. "So now what? I think I have intruded on something, sorry about that I didn’t mean to."
"Yeah, you really surprised me, although I think it's going to be all right. Kathren, I haven't had time to tell Endora that much about us yet so if you could be on your best."
"Understood, my lips are sealed." She said with a smile.
"Then let's go, you head off into the living room and make yourself at home. I'm sure everyone there will want to talk to you, while I go talk with Endora."
"OK, I like meeting new people." She gave Margrette a kiss on the cheek and headed for the living room.
The two exited the study and each headed in a different direction. Zig Zag was sure all the people were pulling her leg about the giant female otter; but when she came into the room her eyes bulged out of her head. She had seen many females who were buffed, mostly like Margrette but this otter was something else. She saw a potential star if only she could convince her. The gears were turning.
Kathren introduced herself to everyone and they all sat down to talk. Except for Margrette, who was in the kitchen with Endora. The kitchen was full of the aromas of cooking food and for a moment Margrette forgot what she was here for. Then she came back to her senses.
"Endora I'm sorry about Kathren's arrival, believe me it was a shock to see her myself."
"It's OK Margrette, one more to the group we have already isn't going to make that much difference. Although I don't think I've ever seen a woman so big before. What species is she?"
"She is a rare Alaskan Sea Otter, just like the taurs you see once in awhile. They are very few in number and as you said she is big. However she is not big for her species, she hasn't finished growing yet."
"You mean she's going to get bigger than that!"
"Oh yeah, I've seen pictures of her parents, she'll grow at least two more feet in height and fill out a lot more."
"WOW, that's incredible."
"It sure is." She sighed to herself. "Endora there is something we have to talk about but I don't think right now is the right time. I know you need answers from me but tonight isn't right." She wanted to tell her everything and she was going to but it would totally ruin the evening.
"It's OK Margrette, I know you have things to say and you'll tell me when you're ready. Tell Kathren she is welcome to stay for dinner with us."
"That's great, she felt bad about intruding. Oh I'll have to get you or Sabrina to take her over to the apartment complex. Kathren's going to stay there, she just got off the plane and came straight here, so she has nowhere to go."
Endora had always liked having guests, it was something she enjoyed. Most people couldn't stand having people in their homes but it always appealed to her.
"Nonsense, she's not going to stay there alone, she can stay here. The other room upstairs is empty however the bed will be a bit small for her."
Margrette was not really surprised by Endora's offer, she knew her too well. "You sure you're OK with this?"
"Certainly, you go tell her."
Margrette gave her friend a hug. "I don't know what I would do without you."
"I suspect get into a lot of trouble." She smiled and gave her a wink.
"I believe you're right."
"Let's just give the food a check and then go and join the others. Warren should be home soon. He told me he would try to get out as early as he could."
Sabrina's father arrived and again everyone got introduced. Warren thought that if he got introduced to anymore people he was going to have to add on to the house. Then it was on to the meal. There was a wide variety of things to eat and everyone stuffed themselves to almost popping. Clean up went quickly since everyone volunteered to help. Sabrina took her mom away from the kitchen and together they went and found Zig Zag. The den seemed to be the place to visit tonight. Now with everyone inside Sabrina closed the door.
"I hope you are enjoying the evening Miss Zig Zag." Said Endora.
"Just call me Zig Zag, and I am having a wonderful time. Thank you very much for inviting me. Now what is this about, you two?"
Endora looked at her daughter. "Sabrina, it's your turn."
"Zig, it looks like I owe you a big apology." She didn't look her in the eye; in fact the floor looked pretty good about now. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you about my twin sister and I feel horrible about what I did." She raised her head and now looked into Zig's eyes. It was difficult to do but she felt Zig deserved it. "I put you in an awkward situation that never should have happened. Please accept my apology."
Zig was taken aback, she knew Sabrina and this wasn't really like her. Sabrina was the most honest person she knew. She must have had a really good reason for not telling her the truth. Then a light went on in her head and it occurred to her as to why. "You didn't tell your sister where you worked, did you?" She knew she had the answer.
It was Sabrina's turn to be surprised, now that she figured it out she was afraid that this would just compound things making it even worse. "Yeah", she paused to gather herself. "Zig, your profession is not exactly the most accepted form of employment."
"Sabrina!" Endora was shocked that her daughter would say such a thing. Although it did have a ring of truth, adult film stars were usually looked down upon. She had accepted the fact that her daughter work there as an artist, although it wasn’t really hoped for her as employment.
"Mom, it's true." Sabrina sighed. "Zig, that wasn't meant to sound mean or…" She didn't get to finish her sentence.
"It's OK Sabrina. Mrs. Mustelidae, it is true most of the time. I can see why Sabrina held back in not telling me about her sister. If I had come around it might have made the other Sabrina very uncomfortable and I suspect you were just trying to protect her. Am I right Sabrina?"
"Yeah, Zig, you hit the nail on the head. I've become accustomed to you and your crew, you're all a great bunch of people but sometimes people don't always look at the people, just what they're associated with. In fact Sabrina really doesn't know the whole truth either."
That surprised Endora but she was sure that Sabrina would remedy that when Sabrina woke up. "So what did you tell her?" She was curious, plus if she had to play along with the charade then she better know the whole story.
Sabrina looked at her mother knowing that she was digging. "I just told Sabrina that I worked with a small film company. They were now in pre-production on things and I wasn't really needed at the moment."
"Well that is believable." Endora said.
"You're right Sabrina, being associated with the Porn industry does have its drawbacks. I've had many an object thrown at me. Also I've been called every name in the book. Mothers look at me with so much hate it could make the polar ice caps melt. It's OK Sabrina, your apology is accepted and I appreciate the fact that you came and talked with me."
"Whew! I'm so glad that you understood Zig." Sabrina felt better but she still regretted not telling her now. "Mom told me you put Sabrina in a private room; that was totally unexpected. I don't know what to say, thank you."
"I want to see your sister get better Sabrina and if I can, meet her. I will refrain from telling her what I do for a living if that is your wish."
"Well let me feel out the water, she may not have any problem with it. I haven't really talked to her about this subject. But you meeting her is not a problem, I'll be happy to introduce you."
"OK, that seems fair. Well if there's nothing else, let's go join the others. I want to talk to Kathren a bit more. She is a most interesting person, in all respects."
"I know what you mean." Said Sabrina. "She's so shiny and big, and BLUE!! WOW!!! She picked me up like I was nothing."
"She picked you up?"
"Yeah, you hadn't arrived yet, she thought I was the other Sabrina. She picked me up and hugged me." She gave her ribs a slight rub.
Zig Zag's mind began to drift into naughty thoughts about Kathren and herself but was soon interrupted by Sabrina.
"Zig! Earth to Zig."
"Huh! Oh sorry Sabrina my mind was wandering. You are right about her being a really interesting color, never seen a blue furred otter."
"Yes, I want to find out if she is the only one in her family that colour. Ready to go back and see the others?"
"Good idea, OK ladies this conversation is over; let's go out and have some fun." Zig said with a grin.
They joined the others and soon a big conversation began to brew, everyone got involved and a good time was had by all. As the time got late, Amy began to get extremely tired. It was a signal to the others that it was time to call this night a rap.
Amy, Thomas, Sabrina, Chris and Tammy all said their goodnights. They had come in two cars and all headed back to Amy's apartment. Sabrina told her mother she would call her in the morning, gave her a hug and was off.
Zig Zag conveyed her enjoyment of the entire evening to Endora. Zig told her she hoped she could return the favor sometime. Endora said not to be a stranger and to drop by once in awhile. Zig was thrilled to hear that and she would be sure to take her up on that. She wanted to learn more about Endora and Margrette, they had turned out to be very interesting people.
Warren gave his wife a peck on the cheek and told her that he was going to bed. She knew that he had figured out that she wanted to be alone with her friends. He had always been smart that way. That left just the women downstairs.
"Well looks like we're finally alone." Endora announced. "Kathren, the bed in your room is a bit small. Sorry about that."
"Oh there are not many beds that are my size anyway, mostly I sleep on the floor. If you have a sleeping bag I'll just open it up and sleep on that."
"Sleeping bags we have." She smiled and was glad that the room wasn't going to be a problem.
"Thank you Mrs. Mustelidae for letting me stay here. I'm sorry I arrived unexpectedly."
"Call me Endora and it's my pleasure, any friend of Margrette's is a friend of mine." She smiled but she knew something was going on. Kathren would not have flown all the way out here on a whim just to see Margrette. Endora looked around, found two large sleeping bags and with Kathren's help they got the room ready.
As they worked Endora realized that Kathren had no luggage when she arrived. "Uh, Kathren you did have some luggage didn't you?"
"Yup, it's at the airport, I had to leave it there. Traveling with them was proving to be difficult."
"I can understand that, tomorrow I'll take you there to get your things."
"Thanks Endora, I appreciate you doing that. I think I'll turn in. I'm sure you have plenty of things to talk to Margrette about. I had a wonderful evening Endora, you made me feel right at home. Most people don't give me a chance; they just stare or make fun of me."
"I'm glad to have you here Kathren; I hope to get to know you more tomorrow."
"Me to."
"The bathroom is the fourth door down. I'll leave a small light on in there to help."
"Thanks Endora again for everything."
"Anytime, night Kathren."
Endora thought to herself that Kathren was indeed a very nice person. Even though she was different looking that was for sure. She seemed to have quite a background and it would be interesting to learn more about her. Now it was downstairs to see Margrette, maybe she will supply some answers I am looking for.
She was right, she found Margrette in the kitchen making coffee for both of them.
"Could this be one of those all-nighter’s that we used to have." Endora said.
"Could be." Said Margrette. "I think we're due for one." She brought the two mugs of coffee to the table and sat down. "I really don't know where to start Endora, there is so much to tell."
Endora looked at her friend, she could tell that she was extremely stressed. This conversation would help some but it wouldn't take away the pain. It was something that had to be done and she was glad she was here to listen.
"Then how about you start at the beginning, that should be a good place."
"The beginning..." She sighed it was going to be a long night. "It began a little before Sabrina moved out. Frank and I really hadn't done much together as of late. I had many things happening at work and he was way to busy to even notice me. Sabrina felt ignored and well we had a few fights over that. Sabrina finally called it quits and moved out, she felt trapped in something she didn't have anything to do with. Meaning she felt she was somehow coming between me and Frank. Which was untrue, we had our own problems and she wasn't part of them. I tried to explain this to her but she had it in her own mind that she was somehow part of what was going on. So she moved out, it was one of the saddest days of my life."
"So Sabrina moving out started all this?"
"No not exactly, the ball was rolling down hill already so to speak, she just sped things up somewhat."
"Then it was really bad timing for her to go."
"Yes, she picked the worst time to leave, but I couldn't stop her. She had her own life to live and so I let her go."
"So that left you with Tabitha."
"Yes, that too. I found out very soon that Sabrina did more with Tabitha than I realized and I regretted that I did not take more of a notice."
"Seems your Sabrina has many things in common with mine. Sabrina is very involved with Tabitha and she keeps a good eye on her. She also takes care of her if I'm pushed sometimes."
"She sounds like my daughter." She sighed again and took a sip of her coffee.
"After Sabrina moved out I found I needed a sitter and that took some doing but I finally found one, but all the while I was falling apart. Frank was doing more and more business trips and they were pushing things at work. Then something snapped and well I collapsed at work. I was taken to the hospital, it took them forever to get a hold of Frank but he came as soon as he could. I was physically and mentally exhausted. The doctor told me to take a vacation from work and to stay home. My doctor thought it was best that I just concentrate on raising Tabitha. So I took an extended leave from work."
"Sounds like a lot was happening."
"I remember vaguely calling you a couple of times not explaining too much. I was very close to getting admitted into the loony bin."
Endora never realized at that time how bad things had been for her, how bad things still were for her. She then realized that when she asked Margrette to keep Tabitha it was right in the middle of her own troubles. "Margrette why didn't you tell me you were having so many problems? I would have never asked you to take Tabitha."
"That's why I never told you. You helped me in ways you will never ever imagine when you gave me your unborn child. What you asked was nothing in comparison. You reached out for help and I threw you a line. Tabitha was the best thing to happen to me in those times anyway, in many ways she kept me sane. If I didn't have her then we wouldn't be having this conversation. I would be locked away in some asylum. You did right Endora, you did right."
A tear flowed down the side of Margrette's cheek and she gently wiped it away.
"Anyway I stayed at home and well, began to lose interest in a lot of things. At the top of my list was exercise, I gained weight in all the wrong places and well, it just made me more depressed."
"Where was Frank? Wasn't he helping out with Tabitha?"
"Frank left Tabitha's well being to me; he did a few things but not much." She was verging on tears and Endora found a box of Kleenex and handed it to her.
"That must have been hard."
"Thanks." She said for the Kleenex. "It was but it all came to a head one night, we had one of the worst fights we had ever had. All we did was shout and when we were finally done, he told me he didn't find me sexually attractive anymore. It hurt me deeply and he slept downstairs on the couch for a week."
"Serves him right." Endora said with a bit of sarcasm.
"Endora it wasn't his fault it was mine, all mine." She burst into tears and put her head down on the table. "It was my fault." She said weeping.
Endora got up and comforted her friend. She rubbed her shoulders softly. "Margrette it wasn't all your fault."
"Yes it was Endora, Frank isn't the most fit man but he does go twice a week to the gym to work out. He's proper and keeps himself tidy. But I let myself go, I smelled bad and I was way overweight. He kept telling me my attitude sucked and I guess he was right. I was just so far down a hole that I wasn't getting out without help."
"So what happened?" She was intrigued now and thought about if she let herself go, would Warren lose interest?
"He took me for a walk one afternoon. He took time off work to come and see me. I was taken aback after all this time of fighting. It was a change I wasn't really expecting."
"Well what happened?" Endora looked her friend in the eye and as she would with a child she wiped her tears away.
"We talked and held hands. Something we hadn't done for years. He only asked one thing, for me to accompany him to the gym twice a week. He said it would do me good and it would give us some time together."
"So that's how you got into the fitness craze."
"At first no, I hated it! Every bone and muscle in my body hurt, I wanted to give it up the first day. My body was so out of shape it didn't want to cooperate. But I stuck with it. It did help us get over one hump in our relationship, so for awhile I was happy."
"From the look of yourself it seems you took the fitness thing very serious."
Endora took a long sip of her coffee and was glad they were having this conversation. She knew this would go a long way in helping Margrette.
Margrette took a bite of one of the biscuits that she had gotten out with the coffee. "You're right about that part; then with all good things they change. One night Frank came in really late. Which wasn't normal, he had this big meeting at work and he looked exhausted. He told me things weren't going so great for one of their overseas operations. So the top brass elected him to go there to get things straightened out. This wasn't just some little job, it was to be at least a six-month posting. It was bad timing, just when things for us were turning in a favorable direction."
"I take it he went." Endora sighed; damn she thought trouble did follow her.
"Yes he did, reluctantly; if I had still been working I think he would have quit. They didn't even offer to send me as well with him. Which I thought was a little unfair. Frank was one of their best employee's, he was their first choice." She said with anger.
"So I take it you spent a lot of time at the gym." As she said that her eyes drifted over her friend's body; she was big, no where near Kathren but still she was impressive.
"I got addicted to working out, but I wasn't doing it right and well, one night I pulled something that really hurt. The physician there suggested I get a personal trainer to look in on my workouts. He told me it was easy to hurt yourself if you did things wrong. Plus it didn't have to be anything really heavy either."
"So you enlisted Kathren." This was a guess, a pretty good one she thought.
"Not at first; some of the guys tried to help me but they had too many of the ladies already begging for attention, if you know what I mean. Finally I saw her, funny thing was from the back I mistakenly took her for a man and I addressed her as such. She took it in good fun."
"So you got to know her quite well in Frank's absence."
"Yes I did, we got to be good friends, nothing more at that point. When Frank finally returned I had my figure back and we had months of terrific sex. Things were really looking up for us and I finally got to introduce Kathren to him. Frank instantly labeled her as lesbian material, how he knew is beyond me. It's not like she has it tattooed on her forehead."
"I wouldn't have guessed right away but sometimes you have feelings about others."
"That's true, well Frank was right she is a lesbian, she has had several girl friends but nothing has ever worked out for her. She has tried men but they all feel intimidated by her size."
"Yes that would be a big obstacle for a man to get over. So you spoke in the car that you didn't really need this happening right now. Since Kathren is here I take it you are a little more involved with her; am I right?" Margrette found this a bit hard to tell, but she had never really kept anything from Endora.
"Yes I am Endora, but it didn't happen overnight that's for sure. Plus I'm still very confused by the whole thing. After Frank returned, he found me more or less the way he liked me to be, fit and energetic. However I found out something about Frank I never realized before, he is extremely jealous. So much so that we've been thrown out of places."
"Frank, jealous, really!" Endora had never thought of Frank as one of the jealous type.
"You better believe it. That's the big problem I have going on right now. Endy I spend a lot of time at the gym; it takes a lot to keep this body I have looking this way. Too much time for Frank's liking. This isn't something that has happened overnight Endy. It has built up as my body changed, you probably noticed I turn heads everywhere I go."
"Yes I did notice that." She sighed and wished she could do the same.
"Well it drives Frank insane, we have fights over what I can wear and even how I walk. We used to go out a lot, now we just stay home. Over the last year I've told him I'm doing what I want to do. He objected to this, trying to put his foot down but I wouldn't listen. So I turned to someone who would." She put her head down and sighed.
"You went to Kathren." Now she knew the whole story. "So how far involved with Kathren are you?" Margrette hung her head as in shame. "Enough to say that Frank and I have been separated for the last six months."
"Oh boy!" She knew that this wasn't good. She wanted to know how far this had gone but she had her doubts that she should ask that personal a question. Then she decided that she had to ask. "Are you sleeping with Kathren." She gulped when she asked the question.
"Endora I've never lied to you, I may have stretched things a bit but never have I told a lie. Yes I'm sleeping with her."
She sighed, now she knew. "Does Frank know?"
Margrette didn't answer right away then came the words that were hard to say. "Yes, he's not very pleased about it, in several aspects. He's hurt due to the fact I ran off with a woman. It didn't do his male pride any good that's for sure. He cannot seem to understand what the problems are. He looks at me as if I was the cause of all of this and I'm not." Her voice was harsh and she was upset now.
"Margrette how are you feeling now? It matters a lot to me to know, I've been friends with you a long time and now it seems you need someone else's opinion. I don't know if I can but I'd like to try."
"Endora I don't know what I want or how I truly feel. I'm totally confused, Kathren has shown me things about myself I never truly knew existed. Frank on the other hand wants me to hide in a closet."
"So what does Sabrina think of this arrangement?"
"She hasn't decided yet, she doesn't know everything. She knows that Frank and I have separated for the time being."
"What about Tabitha?"
"She doesn't know anything, just that I have to be away for awhile. We have kept her out of it, she wouldn't understand anyway."
"So why didn't Frank come with you, it's his daughter and aunt?"
"He couldn't leave for that many days, since I'm currently unemployed I was the most logical to go."
"So he's looking after Tabitha?"
"No, she's with a friend of ours, Frank couldn't be sure if he would be home every night."
"Margrette, it sounds like you have a lot on your plate, more than anyone I know."
Margrette really did know how to get herself into trouble. "I know you and this will eat you up inside sooner or later, you already had one bout and lost." She took Margrette's hand and squeezed it. "You'll wind up in the hospital again if you are not careful Oreo." She smiled and for a moment she felt like her younger self talking to her friend many years ago. "To me it doesn't matter whom you take to bed. It's not my concern, what is my concern is that you are happy and Tabitha is looked after. You will have to look hard into yourself and see what truly lies there. If it happens to be Kathren, then so be it. After that then you have to change your life to accommodate her." She smiled and Margrette smiled back. A tear flowed down her right cheek.
"I know, it's just so hard to think of myself when Sabrina is so sick." Her voice was low and she knew that the day had caught up to her. She was tired and her thoughts were drifting.
"I think it's time we hit the sack, you've told me what you wanted to. Tomorrow you'll want to go and see Sabrina and begin to look at your aunt's apartment." She hugged her friend. "We'll get through this one thing at a time. Right now I suggest we hit the pillows." She looked at the time and had found that an hour and a half had passed by. She was going to feel this tomorrow.
"Do you like Kathren?" Margrette said in a low voice.
"She seems very nice Margrette and she definitely turns heads. I'll have more chances to talk with her tomorrow." She put the dishes away into the sink and took a look at her weary friend. She put her arms around her and gave her a hug, she looked very much like she needed another one. A hug was worth a million words.
"I'm so glad you are here Endy." Margrette said in a very soft voice.
"I'm glad I can be here for you Oreo."
Margrette wasn't used to being called her pet name; Endora had made it up and was the only one who used it. It brought too many memories to the surface and she fell apart in Endora's arms. Endora held her tight knowing this was the best thing for her. A lot of things were stored up inside Margrette and some of them were finally getting released.
In the morning it was Warren that was up first. He crept downstairs to put on some coffee and set up the breakfast table. He had a wonderful time last night and he was glad to see everyone together. He thought about how long it had been since they had a full house like that. To him it seemed way too long, he had enjoyed himself immensely. He was also surprised by Margrette's appearance; he had seen fitness models before but never in person. She looked great, tall, slender, in a way he was a bit jealous of Frank. However he would never trade Endora for anyone, she was the best and he loved her so.
He also thought about Margrette's friend Kathren, now she was something else. He had never in his life seen a female that large. Also the fact that she was blue was very interesting. When he first saw her he thought he had swallowed his tongue. Now a female otter would normally not turn his head but this one was special. He thought that if he had to start all over again he probably would have given her a try. He tried to be as quiet as he could, he knew Endora didn't get to bed for awhile after he did. She liked to get a good nights rest if she could. Thank goodness Tabitha was staying over at a friend's house, it was a small blessing.
"Ah, my knight in black and white." Said Endora as she came into the kitchen.
"I hope you slept well dear, I tried not to wake you."
"You did a good job dear, didn't hear a thing." She gave him a kiss on the nose, it was the little things that kept them together. He returned it with a little scratch behind her ear.
"If you keep this up dear we may have to go back to bed." She grinned and he grinned back. After all these years they still had it.
"Margrette looks really good, she has really been working out."
"Oh I didn't think you noticed." She gave a small giggle. Warren gave her a strange look. "So how is she? I really didn't get to say much to her last night."
"She has big problems Warren, big problems."
"That doesn't sound good love, anything you can tell me." He had been around long enough to know that some things that women tell each other would always remain private.
"Margrette and Frank are separated, have been for six months now."
"That's not so good. How is she holding up?"
"Not too good, with that and Sabrina clinging to life, she's falling apart inside. She needs help Warren, a real doctor."
"I'm sorry to hear that. Is there anything I can do?"
"I would have you do something but I'm really not sure if it's a good idea."
"And that being?"
"You call and talk to Frank and see what his side of the story is, I know Margrette's but I need more information."
"I see what you mean, dear. I don't know if I could get much out of Frank. I haven't really kept in touch with him. It must be almost ten years since I last spoke with him. We were never really that close."
"It's OK, I really didn't think it was a good idea anyway. Although I just might have to ask you to call."
"Just say the word dear and I'll give it my best shot."
"Thanks." She scratched his ear and he kissed her nose.
The Breakfast went quickly but was briefly interrupted by a six-year-old named Tabitha. Seems the neighbors had let her out of her cage. Tabitha had a way of going straight for the obvious. She ignored everyone and went right to Kathren, who just happened to be the largest member at the table.
"WOW! A Blue giant Otter lady." Said Tabitha with surprise in her voice.
"And who do we have here?" Said Kathren. "What's your name little one?" Kathren had been told the whole story and about Tabitha as well but she knew kids love to talk so she played up to her.
"I'm Tabitha, I'm in 1st grade."
"Well Tabitha it's nice to meet you, my name is Kathren."
"You sure, Giant Otter Lady sounds better."
"I'm sure Tabitha." She put on a big smile for her.
"How'd you get so big and musclely?"
"That's a good question Tabitha. Well for one thing my kind are all big. I'm not even finished growing yet, just like you. Also I ate good foods like vegetables and fruits."
"Oh yuck, vegetables!"
"They're not all yucky Tabitha, you just have to find the ones you do like and eat those. I don't like all fruits and vegetables. Plus you have to do plenty of exercise."
"You mean like running and stuff?"
"Yes Tabitha, running is an excellent way of exercising." Kathren now was sure they had to be sisters; Margrette's Tabitha was exactly the same. Heaven help them if they ever get together.
"If I run far will I look like you?"
"No you won't Tabitha but you'll be healthier, you have to lift weights to become muscley as you said. It takes a lot of time and effort to get a body to look like mine." She flexed her arm to show the little girl just how big it really was."
"Wow!" Tabitha said in an excited voice. "Can I touch?"
"Sure, go right ahead." Kathren lowered her arm within the reach of the little girl who gently gave her arm a squeeze.
"Very hard!" She exclaimed.
"Yup and you too can be like me but you would have to work really hard."
"Maybe when I'm older."
"Sounds like a plan Tabitha."
Then Tabitha's attention turned to Margrette. "Ooh another muscley person."
"Hello Tabitha it's nice to see you, my name is Margrette."
"Hi, are you staying here with us?"
"Me and Kathren will be here for a little while."
"That's nice; mom do I have to give up my room?"
Endora was a bit surprised by the question. "Ah … no dear we have enough room, you will be able to sleep in your room tonight."
"YAY!"
Tabitha didn't say much after that, she was too busy eating her Krispy Critters cereal. She ran off as soon as she was done giving kisses to everyone before she left. Margrette just sat there stunned. "My, I can't believe how much alike they really are, even being so far away." Margrette said.
"Would you be able to tell the difference?" Endora asked, she was curious to know.
"I'm not sure, physically they look the same but I really don't think I could if it was only for a short time. In a long test I probably could."
"Well one day we will get to see if you can."
"She is a fine young girl Endora." Said Kathren, she has a lot of energy.
"Tell me about it, I just wish I could run the house on it. It would save us a fortune." She laughed and so did everyone else. It was a good start to a very busy day ahead.
Everyone was ready to go; a lot of things had to be looked at today. They were just waiting for Margrette to finish talking to her husband. She came out not saying too much.
"Well?" Asked Endora
"He warned me to look out for Kathren, he was sure that she would show up sometime." She laughed and said, "Oh look there she is!" She had a smile on her face which thrilled Endora to no end. "He also said he called a lawyer buddy of his who's looking into our situation. He said check the apartment out, but don't do anything with it for now. It was probably going to have to be packed and crated until it goes through the courts unless we somehow find a will." She sighed.
"Well we can go through the closets. Pull out the clothes, they will probably have to be donated to the goodwill anyway. If it's anywhere in the apartment it's probably in a closet." Said Endora.
"Or a bank." Said Kathren.
"Yes that will be another stop when we find her bank statements." Said Margrette, "Oh I just wish Sabrina was awake, she could help us somewhat."
"She'll come around when she is better Margrette, no sooner."
"Yes you're right Endora, let's get going." Margrette knew this was going to be a long day.
The ride over was pleasant, it was nice and sunny with a small breeze. Summer here always seemed nice, but they did have their bad days. The apartment complex was farther away than they had thought but they finally emerged from its long winding driveway. As it came into view they couldn't believe how beautiful this place was. There were trees and lovely flowers everywhere. No wonder Frank's aunt had wanted to live here. They parked the car a little distance from the main building, Margrette went ahead to the main doors. Endora helped Kathren out of the car; it was a bit cramped for someone of her size. She wondered what she was going to have to drive when she reached full size. Kathren always kept a close eye on Margrette and she watched as a young raccoon tried to put some moves on her. Endora saw Kathren's immediate reaction.
"Kathren no! Margrette can take care of herself. You trained her, you should know." Endora knew that there would be no way that she could stop her if she decided to bolt. It was over in a moment and Margrette brushed the guy aside. When he walked towards them he really didn't pay too much attention to where he was going until he walked right into Kathren. He looked up and took a big GULP! Kathren put her hands on her hips and lowered her large head down to meet his face. She said only a few words to him, all the while smiling with her large carnivorous teeth.
"She's mine!" Suddenly she smelled something that she knew the scent of. She looked down at the racoon's trousers and she could see that they had a large wet patch at the crotch. He bolted away and she giggled.
"Kathren that wasn't nice, that young man will have nightmares for days."
Kathren laughed. "Sometimes it pays to be big." She winked at Endora and they were off to follow in Margrette's footsteps.
Inside, the building depreciated in looks. It was run down and there was a 'For Sale by Owner' sign out in the main lobby. They looked at the directory and found the superintendent's office, it was on this floor. They hoped that he or she would be there. The place needed a good painting and some wood work, at the end of one hall was the superintendent's office. The door looked like it had been through hell and back. Margrette was almost afraid to knock in case it caved in. But she knocked on the door twice and waited, through the door they could hear sounds of someone moving inside. Then the door opened and there stood a very old female badger.
"Yeah what do you want?" She said in a gruff voice. She looked to be a hundred.
"I'm here representing a tenant of yours, a Mrs. Sarah Sky."
"Lawyers, damn!" She slammed the door in their faces, all the while shouting. "My Lawyer's name is Buttman, you can call his office for an appointment."
Margrette thought this was not a good way to start the day. "Hello. I'm not a Lawyer I'm here to inform you that Mrs. Sarah Sky recently passed away, I'm here as her representative."
There was another clatter and the door swung open again.
"Sarah's dead?" The old badger said.
"I'm sorry to say yes, I'm a distant relative sent here to clear things up on this end."
"Come in come in, please excuse my manners. Please have a seat, I had no idea of Sarah's death."
"It was quite sudden. Only a couple of days ago."
"I see, I knew Sarah enough to see her and to talk once in awhile. The last time I saw her she was with a pretty young female skunk."
"That would be my daughter."
"Beautiful young thing, ah the days of youth. Now what can I do for you?"
"I want to be sure that everything is paid up, I may have to keep things in the apartment for awhile."
"Understood, let's just see what, her account says. Be right back." The old woman went out of the room for a moment but it took her awhile before she finally came back with a file folder in hand. She sat down at her desk and began to read what was in the folder. "Looks like Sarah was paid up till next month, so that kind of gets you off the hook for awhile. I'll need a phone number where I can reach you so I can give you a reminder."
"Sounds good." Margrette gave the woman Endora's number and address for she may be here for a little while longer than she had hoped.
"Good, looks like everything is in order, now is there anything else I can do for you."
"You can direct us to Aunt Sarah's apartment." She smiled at the old woman, hoping that this wouldn't take too long so they could get on with the searching.
The old woman paused for a moment then said. "I'm sorry Mrs. Johnston I cannot do that."
"Huh, I don't understand." What was going on here she thought.
"The moment you told me of Sarah's death the apartment became sealed. The locks will be changed and everything that is in the apartment will stay there. That is until you show me some legal paperwork. Do you have such documents showing that you are the legal guardian of Sarah's estate?
"What?!" Margrette said in a high voice. "This is ridiculous, I have Sarah's key."
"Yes I understand that and you cannot use it. That key is not valid, the place is now legally sealed. Any attempt to enter the premises and I will call the police. Mrs. Johnston I know this sounds weird to you right now but it protects Sarah from getting taken by con men and the like. I am legally bound to protect her interests. And at this moment you don't have the legal right to enter her home. I will be happy to help you when you return with the proper documentation."
"But but..." Her voice trailed off.
Endora thought 'here we go again'. "Margrette, I think it's better we leave and call your husband, he may be able to clear this up by phone."
"I just hope you're right Endora." She stood up and turned to leave. "Good afternoon, we will return."
"I'll be here, again I'm sorry Mrs Johnston that I couldn't help you." Said the old woman. She felt bad in doing that, she could have just shown her the apartment but she didn't need another lawsuit on her plate. She had three already and one more would drive her over the edge. They seemed like nice people she thought, they should be able to get the proper papers. Now she had to get back to her packing.
As they opened up the door they almost ran over someone. They were about to excuse themselves when they recognized the person standing there.
"Zig Zag!" Endora exclaimed.
"Hello Endora, Margrette, Kathren. Wow, funny meeting you here."
"This is where Margrette's aunt lived, we were going to access what was there but we have hit a small snag."
"Sorry to hear that, anything I can help with."
"Know a good lawyer who works cheap." Endora said sarcastically.
"You really need a lawyer?"
"Yes we do."
"Then I can help you." She smiled and picked out her appointment book. "Looks like I have a couple of hours after I get through here to help you. Can you wait about an hour or so? Or meet me somewhere?" Endora thought about a good place to meet around here. Finally she came up with the Golden Palace, it was a coffee and donut shop and had a back room if they wanted a bit of privacy. "How about the Golden Palace, it's not too far from here and it even has a back room."
"Excellent I'll see you there in two hours that should give me enough time."
"Good, we'll see you there." They said their good-byes and proceeded outside. Parked beside and in back of them were several construction vehicles. Also there was a beautiful blue convertible sports car. Even Endora liked the looks of it and she really wasn't into cars.
"Wow, that's some car!" Kathren exclaimed.
"You're right about that." Endora said.
Margrette took a glance at the fancy car but paid it no mind, just walking on past. She was too miffed to look at cars.
Endora shrugged her shoulders and followed after her. They got in the car and headed for one of the malls nearby, it would be easy to kill two hours in there. The time did go by fast and soon they headed for the Golden Palace. When they pulled into the parking area they saw Zig's little blue sports car was already there. Seems that she didn't need the full two hours after all.
She had found a good table in the back room, sitting beside her was a lovely brown rabbit. She was neatly dressed and had a look about her. Endora guessed that this was Zig's personal Lawyer. They all sat and introductions were made.
"Everyone this is Christine, she's my attorney."
"Nice to meet you." Said Christine.
"Now you did say that you needed a Lawyer?" Zig said just to clarify things.
"Yes, we do." Said Margrette. "I'm sure we can work out a fee Christine. Although this trip may wind up breaking us."
"I'm sure we can work something out. Now what do you need me for?" said Christine.
Margrette started to explain her situation to Christine, all the while the others began their own conversations.
"So Zig Zag, are you going to buy the property?" Endora inquired.
Kathren had gotten along well with Zig Zag and was pleased to see her once again.
"Figured out why I was there, huh." Zig Zag smiled.
"Yeah, I saw the 'For Sale' sign inside the foyer and then I saw the construction trucks. I knew that they were there probably for an inspection."
"Yup and as I figured the place is heavily run down."
"So it's a no go, sorry to hear that. Oh well if you're looking for something like that place I'm sure there are others."
"Oh no, it's perfect for me."
"Huh!" Her response threw Endora for a moment.
"Well, I'm looking for a place to invest in; the tax man is killing me. My accountant said it would be a good idea to look into real estate."
"But you said the place is run down. You don't want to get into that kinda mess, do you?"
"Yup, all the renovations done can be deducted from my taxes; it's perfect. A good section of the building was rebuilt about four years ago. A roof cave in trashed about eight apartments. Of the 50 apartments in that building only 10 are livable. So if I can rework and even get half up to snuff I'll be making money."
"Sounds good if you can work it." Kathren said.
"Yes, I've already made an offer, we'll see how things go."
Endora noticed that things seemed to be a bit tense between Margrette and Christine. This was great, Lawyers always had a way of making simple things complicated.
Enter the lawyers. Ackk!!!!!!!!!! Don't sue don't sue!!!!!!!!!
