Chapter Four: Truth or Dare
“Think they could have crammed any more liquor in here?” Andrea mused as she stood beside Raph, looking through the contents of the medium sized fridge that had come with the room. Somehow, mostly due to her boldness, they’d ended up with their arms around each other, Andrea’s over Raph’s shoulder and his around her waist. It was a friendly gesture as far as she was concerned, one she usually always used with friends and family. But with them such contact had never made her feel so wonderfully lightheaded. “So, what’ll it be?” she asked, resisting the urge to draw a deep, fortifying breath.
It was on the tip of Raph’s tongue to say “you” but he thought better of it and opted for a beer instead. That arm stayed around him as she reached for a bottle and used the opener mounted on the wall beside the fridge to pry the top off before handing it to him. He was honestly surprised he had even been able to manage a simple word with those fingers playing gently over his shoulder and even more surprising was the fact that his arm was around her. How had that happened anyway? He couldn’t remember. So there he was, in a situation he’d never been even close to being in before and accepting a drink from a woman whose stormy gray eyes smiled warmly at him. What the hell had he done to get this lucky?
“So what do you think the kids will want?” she asked as she grabbed an Amberbock for herself.
Raph came quickly back to reality and looked over his options. “Well, I’m sure my brothers could handle a beer…can’t say the same for your friends though.”
She smiled again, that smile that knocked the breath out of him and made his heart race. “Water it is.”
They grabbed what they needed and were on their way back to the large dining room table everyone had congregated around when a knock sounded at the door.
“I got it,” Kris offered after Andrea had set the drinks down on the table. She shoved Andrea lightly with a devilish smile, chuckling to herself when the blond went off balance and was caught by Raph. She loved playing cupid, especially when it came to her friends. When she pulled the door open she was expecting to be greeting only one person so when she saw not only the fourth brother, Donatello, but also a young woman with short red and blond hair and amber eyes with green flecks, she was momentarily caught off guard. She recovered quickly though and gave them a welcoming smile. “Hi, you must be Donatello. I’m Kris,” she said, extending a hand towards him. “We tried to save you some pizza but your brothers can eat a lot more than I gave them credit for. There should be a few slices left. If that’s not enough we can just order another one.”
Donnie smiled and shook her hand. He now understood why his brothers had chosen to stay out and honestly couldn’t blame them. Kris was calm, beautiful and very outgoing. If the other girls were like her…no, he really couldn’t blame them. “Thanks, but I think I’ll be okay. This is Christy.” He politely introduced the woman he had already mentally claimed as his own.
The young woman took Kris’s hand, a sly grin curling her lips. “I’m your neighbor. And I was your roomie at one point in time but apparently I didn’t make enough of an impact for you to remember me.”
“Christy!!” They Hawaiian launched herself at her once roommate, wrapping her arms tightly around the other woman’s waist. “I haven’t seen you for so long! You look fantastic!” she backed away, still smiling like crazy. “Well hey, why don’t you guys come on in and make yourselves at home. We were just about to start a game of…well, something.”
“Something?” Christy asked as they followed Kris in.
“Yeah. I’m picking the game. I just haven’t come up with anything yet.”
“Oh shoot, I don’t know if I trust this.”
They rounded the corner of the entry way and the wide living room and formal dining room spread out before them. The five sitting at the table looked up, several brows lifting in interest upon seeing the young woman standing beside Donatello.
“Okay…introductions,” Kris said and rapidly started calling out everyone’s name, pointing as she went. “Leo, Andrea, Catey, Mikey, Raph, Don and Christy…and ya’ll know me. Now you two,” she gently shoved the new comers towards the table, “have a seat and get acquainted while-.”
“Christy as in your old roomie, Christy? As in southern home cookin’ that I need to taste, Christy?” Andrea asked, smiling warmly at a woman she’d never personally met but had gotten to know over the phone pretty well.
The new comer stared at Andrea, did a double take and a wide grin split her face. “Hey, Drea! And Catey, right?”
Kris watched the two women jumped up to eagerly hug the red-head and laughed. “I thought my cooking was your favorite?”she asked while the guys looked on in complete confusion.
“Of your style, yes. Christy’s got a style all her own though that has made my mouth water on several occasions.”
“So, we have a Christy and a Kris’s now?” Donatello asked. “And you two lived together?”
“Yeah, Christy was my roommate from college. She gets to keep the “y”, even though her name is spelled the entirely wrong way. And I get to drop the “I” and go with Kris,” she said, then inadvertently started to worry her bottom lip for a moment. Things had just gotten slightly complicated. “Um, if you guys would excuse us for a minute…we’ll be right back,” was all she gave as an explanation. She walked over to Andrea and Christy, grabbed both their wrists and pulled them towards the closest bedroom, nodding to Catey to join them. She knew she’d left their guests completely baffled but there was really no other way around it.
Once in the bedroom, safely behind a closed door, Krist faced Christy. “Alright…now I know how we all got here…but that doesn’t explain how you got here. Do you have any clue?”
Christy shook her head. “Wish I did but no. I showed up probably a week or two before you guys did in the room across the hall with nothing but a huge wardrobe and a long but sketchy note. I guess I’m supposed to be the estranged daughter of the people who own these digs and they’re putting me up for the holiday in this fancy suite to keep me close. I’m the head of the translations department, taking on foreign clients and showing them the ropes so I’ve just been pretty much following the instructions of some mysterious secretary that works for my ‘mom.’ To say I’m confused…is one hell of an understatement. How did you guys get here?”
“We made a wish,” Kris answered, wincing when she received an amused look from Andrea. “Well, that’s how it happened.”
“And those four out there have no idea that they’re just cartoons in our world. I think, for the moment, we’d like to keep it that way for the sake of sounding sane. I’ll explain more to you later but I think that’s about the gist of it for right now. When they leave, you’ll get the full version. Sound good?”
Christy flashed a vibrant smile, nodding. “You bet. Now that you guys are here this should be a total blast. Especially taking into consideration our company for the night.”
“You behave,” Kris warned as the four headed back out into the living room.
Christy flashed a wicked smile. “I’m sorry, that word is foreign to me.” And she was out the door following after Andrea and Catey before Kris could say anything more.
“You guys go ahead, I’m going to change and check on Sammy,” Andrea said, going the opposite direction.
“Sammy’s here?!” Christy yelped.
Andrea quickly shushed her, trying not to laugh. “Yes. They don’t know about her either so shoo, off with you. Go have fun and I’ll join you guys in a bit.”
“So, Donnie…Christy, you guys want anything to eat or drink?” Kris asked, re-joining their guests. She remained standing, ready to play good hostess as the other girls took their seats.
“Water please,” Christy said, taking a seat beside Mikey with a somewhat shy smile curving her full lips.
Donnie was at the counter, helping himself to the last three slices of Canadian bacon and sausage. “Any pop that’s not diet,” he said; then sat beside Christy at the table, ignoring his brothers pointed looks of curiosity. “Would you like a piece?” he offered the dark haired haired woman.
“Yes, thank you.”
“What the hell is this…a damn tea party?” Raph grumbled under his breath.
Leo shot him a scathing glare before turning his attention to Donatello and Christy. “So…how exactly did you two meet?”
“Someone wasn’t very specific with their directions,” Donnie replied with a smirk.
“Oh…sorry about that.”
“Not a problem bro. You’re definitely forgiven.”
Leo then turned his attention to the woman getting cozy with his little brother, taking it upon himself to learn more about her. “What brings you to New York, Christy? Do you have family in the city? And how was it that you know Catey, Andrea and Kris?”
Caught while taking a bite of her pizza, Christy finished chewing and set the slice down. Time to make up one hell of an elaborate story. “Well, my parents own this chain of hotel/casinos. They had a conference this weekend and since I’m the head of their foreign languages department, I had to be here to help them with the communications. My parents offered me one of their penthouses to stay in until the conference and holidays were over so…here I am. And me and the girls go way back. Kris and I were roomies in college. I met Andrea and Catey through her. ”
“Foreign languages? Really? Can you speak Al Bhed?” Catey asked cheerfully, not at all to be rude but simply because she was curious.
“Al what?”
“Al Bhed.Ed’c y myhkiyka icat eh dra kysa Final Fantasy Ten.” (It’s a language used in the game Final Fantasy Ten)
Catey stared wide-eyed at Mikey. He had just answered the new girl in flawless Al Bhed! “Oui’ja bmyoat Final Fantasy?” (You’ve played Final Fantasy?”
“Rych’d ajanoputo?” (Hasn’t everybody) Mikey and Raph replied in unison.
Catey laughed, overjoyed that she had one more thing in common with Mikey. She loved talking Al Bhed and as fun as it was to converse with Kris and Andrea in the language, it would be so much more fun to talk to Mikey. “Ruf muhk ryja oui kioc paah cbaygehk Al Bhed?” (How long have you guys been speaking Al Bhed?)
“Puid drnaa oaync huf,” (Bout three years now) Mikey said.
“Fa iciymmo tu ed ud becc Leo uvv,” (We usually do it to piss Leo off) Raph added with his usual cocky grin.
“Oui tu ed du becc res uvv. E zueh eh cesbmo vun y kuut luhjancydeuh.” (You do it to piss him off. I join in simply for a good conversation.)
“Cina oy tu, Mikey, cina oy tu.” (Sure ya do, Mikey, sure ya do.)
During this conversation, Andrea had returned and she now stood behind Raph, staring at the two brothers with her mouth slightly agape. “You two can speak Al Bhed?”
Had it been anyone else, Raph would have bit out a sarcastic response without even thinking. As it was, he almost did out of habit until he realized it was Andrea and she was the last person he wanted to feed his sarcasm to. “Yup. Been able to for a while,” he said, silently congratulating himself.
Andrea sat down beside him, pulling the top off her bottle of beer. Then, she grinned knowingly at the red masked turtle beside her and leaned very, very close to him, whispering loud enough for everyone to hear, “Tuh’d drehg vun y caluht dryd E teth’d ghuf oui fana kuehk du yhcfan sa fedr cusa csynd ycc lussahd ruhao.” (Don’t think for a second that I didn’t know you were going to answer me with some smart ass comment honey.)
As Mikey, Catey and Kris laughed, Raph stared at Andrea in shock. She had him figured out! Well, somewhat figured out. She hadn’t even known him all that long and yet she’d been able to tell what he’d been thinking. His brothers did this to him all the time and it usually got him ticked off, but he took a great amount of comfort in the fact that this woman knew him that well.
“Cu, oui naymmo drehg dymgehk eh drec myhkiyka becca Leo uvv, huh?” (So you really think talking in this language pisses Leo off, huh?) she asked, bringing him back with a simple touch on his knee that had his blood racing.
He forced a grin and tried to appear calm. “Cina, zicd muug yd res.” (Sure, just look at him.)
Andrea looked at Leo, as did Catey and Kris and sure enough, the oldest of the four turtles looked as if he were about two seconds away from losing it. “Oui drehg ev fa ymm myikrat nekrd huf dryd ra’t yccisa fa fana dymgehk ypuid res?” (You think if we all laughed right now that he’d assume we were talking about him?)
Kris quickly objected to this but that did not stop the other four from glancing at Leo, back to each other and then bursting out laughing.
“Oh you’re all sooo funny,” Leo murmured despondently.
Not a fan of seeing people get picked on, Kris leaned close to him. “They’re not saying anything about you hun, don’t worry,” she said softly. “They’re just being typical little brothers.”
“I know.” Leo lowered his voice so only she could hear him. “They think it bothers me…so I humor them and act like it does.”
Not expecting quite that response, Kris was pleasantly surprised to learn that Leo wasn’t as tense as she had believed him to be. It also caused her to wonder just how wrong some of her assumptions had been. I think it’s about time to really get to know these guys. “So…everybody ready to play the best introduction game ever created?”
Raph saw Kris’s evil-looking grin and narrowed his eyes in suspicion. “What are you smilin’ about?”
“What are you worried about?” she shot back in a nonchalant voice. “Okay guys…the game is truth or dare.”
Andrea was the first to react, letting out a short, startled laugh. “Are you serious? Man, the last time I played this game was back when I was 15 and even then it was just used as an excuse to-.” Her voice died off and she looked around uncertainly, red staining her cheeks.
“Excuse to what?” Mikey asked.
“An excuse to…well…make out.”
“Well,” Kris murmured with a devious smirk, “we’ll see how far we can push this game. Anyway! Before we start, I suggest we lay down some ground rules. Overall game rule…one rule per person. You can reserve that rule for later if you wish since you may not know how to play until we get through a few people. How does that sound?” There were nods all around, some more certain than others, but nods all the same. “Alright then, it’s been decided. Oh, one other overall rule. No getting naked.”
Catey shocked everyone and sighed loudly. Andrea just shook her head and laughed as Kris quickly pressed on before any of the guys could renege.
“Alright, time for personal rules. Would anyone like to go first?”
Catey raised her hand. “How about no touchin’ what we can’t see.”
“Whoa,” Raph pushed back from the table. “What kind of game is this?”
Andrea grinned playfully at him, resting her head on her folded hands. “Scared?”
“No…just confused.”
“It’s a game that’s whatever you make it out to be,” Kris supplied. “Anyway! Next! I vote no same sex kissing.”
“Hey now, some of us don’t mind that,” Andrea said with a wicked smirk.
“Yeah,” Christy quickly agreed-not because she was all for making out with one of her friends, but because the opportunity was there to make a smart comment and she simply couldn’t resist. “Although I wouldn’t need a dare to make out with you sweetie-pie.” She winked at Andrea and the blond laughed.
“Wanna just skip the game and go back to my room?” she suggested.
Kris laughed as the guys’ mouths dropped open in shock. “Alright you two walking hormones, tone it down. Since Andrea is the only one okay with that rule and Miranda Kerr isn’t here for Catey to be okay with it, the rule stands. Besides, tormenting the guys like that would just be rude.” Raph muttered a strained ‘thank you’ and Kris shot a glare at Andrea who returned her look with an angelic smirk. “Okay, next rule. No taking forever to answer.” That had to be one of the things that annoyed Kris most. “Anyone else?”
“I think that the rest of us will just wait to see how this game goes before we make our rules,” Leo muttered, sounding more than just a little uncertain.
“Sounds good. Let’s get going then. The game is very simple. You pick a person and ask them truth or dare. For example…hmm…Drea, truth or dare?”
Andrea smiled. “Normally your dares aren’t anything to worry about so I’ll go with truth.”
“Alright. Since she said truth, I’ll ask her a question that she must answer truthfully. If she would have chosen dare, I would have dared her to do something.”
“Like what?” Mikey asked, winking at Catey.
“I dunno…maybe I’d dare her to do a cartwheel or something. Usually the dares are a physical activity. Whatever you like.”
“I once dared a guy to lick his TV from one corner to the other,” Andrea said with a comical smirk. “He was a bachelor living on his own so you can bet that screen was pretty gross.”
Several people made choking noises while others laughed. Kris, being the first to recover and more than eager to get this so called “show” on the road, cleared her throat. “Okay! So let’s start, eh? How about…Donnie since he’s being so quiet.”
Donatello sat straight up in his chair, suddenly very alert. “I can ask anyone?”
“Anyone,” Kris confirmed.
“Okay…Drea. Truth or Dare?”
“Dare.” She didn’t even hesitate and that caught the purple masked turtle completely off guard.
“Dare?” He thought hard, but not long because there was no way he wanted to get any kind of look from Kris. “Anything, right?” She nodded. “Okay, I dare you to…do…a handstand.”
“Good lord, I’m playing with armatures,” she muttered jokingly. “Alright. Are you sure that’s what you want me to do?”
Donnie didn’t catch on to what Andrea was trying to hint at so he just nodded to her.
Walking to the living room where there was more room, Andrea lifted her arms above her head and stood for a minute. In seconds, her feet were in the air pressed closely together, then, ever so slowly she lowered one leg in front of her and let the other fall back until the tip of one toe was almost touching the back of her head. A quick half back flip had her on her feet again.
Everyone was clapping except Raph, who had been way too preoccupied with the flash of cream-colored skin that had appeared when her shirt had fell victim to gravity.
“Show off, sit down!” Kris yelled and gave Andrea a high five as she passed.
“Okay,” the blond said as she sat down, rubbing her hands together. “Mikey. Truth or Dare?”
“Truth babe.” He had already picked up on how tricky that female was, so he played it safe.
“Okay.” An evil grin curved her lips and suddenly, he was second-guessing his choice. “What did you think of Catey the first time you saw her?”
Catey spared a quick glare at Andrea and then blushed. But a small tickling feeling crept up from her stomach. She watched as her twice hero sat up and cleared his throat.
“I thought that she was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen in my life, naturally.” He winked at Catey, making her blush all the darker. Hoots of laughter came from the circle of friends and Mikey pressed on, ready to start getting a little devious himself.
“I do believe that would make it my turn, oh beautiful dudettes. Let’s see…Leo. Truth or Dare?”
Leo wasn’t too sure of this game yet so he opted for the safer path. “Truth.” Mikey grinned. “Dare?”
“Too late bro. You made your choice…now, what did you think of Kris when you first saw her on the balcony.” No point in beating around the bush as far as feelings were concerned.
A dark hue spread over the green of Leo’s face. For all Kris’s self-assuredness, she never thought she’d be so affected by anyone’s opinion of her. Oh, how wrong she was. “You guys have made him uncomfortable,” she argued lightly.
Andrea gave her a look that she clearly interpreted to mean ‘You look like you’re more uncomfortable than he is. Don’t worry hun,’ and Kris took a deep breath, telling herself over and over again that what he said didn’t matter to her.
Leo finally found his voice. “I wished that I could be the reason you had laughed. I don’t know what you were laughing about but you were sitting at the piano…you were…beautiful.”
Christy, Catey and Andrea all took that moment to sigh dreamily as Mikey gave his older brother a thumbs up. He had done good.
“So it’s my turn then? Okay…Drea. Truth or Dare.”
“What the hell is this, pick on Drea night? Truth.”
“Did you know that Kris had just gotten out of the shower when you sent me in her room to use the phone?”
All heads turned to Andrea who, much to Leo’s surprise, looked truly shocked. “No…but it all turned out in your favor now, didn’t it?”
“I’d like to think so,” Kris answered for him, sharing a small smile with the blue masked turtle.
“Okay…Donnie, truth or dare sweetie?”
“Dare,” he answered proudly, determine to be the bravest of his brothers tonight.
“I dare you to…hmm…well, since I’ve always wanted to see this, why don’t you go to living room over there and perform some katas with your bo?”
“Alright.” He stood and walked to the same spot in the living room Andrea had performed for them earlier, adjusted some of the furniture and began the exercise. It was slow, graceful and precise, just the way katas should be. It was the most graceful thing any of the girls had seen before. He was sweating when he was finished, but grinning triumphantly as well.
He took his seat, feeling his confidence boosted by the round of enthusiastic applause, especially the clapping that came from Christy. “Okay…Kris-.”
“Dare.”
“That was quick. I dare you to sing something.”
“What? Who told you I could sing?” She immediately turned to Andrea. “It was you, wasn’t it?”
“No!” She laughed at her friend’s predicament. This was going to prove to be quite interesting. It had taken her and Catey days to finally get Kris to sing something for them.
“Christy?”
Christy raised her hands in front of her. “Hey, I haven’t even been here long enough to do something like that.”
“And what’s the consequence for not following through with a dare?” the raven-haired woman asked, nervously twisting her hands in her lap.
“There aren’t any. You have to do it,” Catey whispered across the table. “You should have her sing opera. She’s real good at that.”
Donnie raised his brows in interest. “Opera? And no one told me Kris…I’m perceptive like that.”
“Well, I don’t have any opera books, sorry. How about something else? I think I’ve got something.” Kris walked hesitantly to the piano, walked to the hangman’s noose that awaited her. She was more nervous about her singing than anything else, and the fact that Leo was here only made it that much worse. But she knew the perfect song, a song she had grown up listening to. Sitting down on the sleek black bench, she ran her hands over the ivory keys and cleared her throat. “I’d like to dedicate this song to our new friends from an old friend of mine named Kermit.”
“Thee Frog!!” Andrea, Christy and Catey all chimed, with infectious giggles.
Kris smiled, attempting to force her hand still with her thoughts. She took a deep breath and began her song quietly, and then with a little more confidence.
It’s not easy bein’ green
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer being red or yellow or gold
Or something much more colorful like that
It’s not easy bein’ green
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over
Cause you’re not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
Or the stars in the sky.
But green’s the color of spring
And green can be cool and friendly-like
And green can be big like and ocean
Or important like a mountain
Or tall like a tree
When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why
But why wonder, why wonder?
I am green and it’ll do fine
It’s beautiful
And I think it’s what I want to be”
As she stood, Andrea, Catey and Christy cheered wildly. “Aw! Kris, that was so cute honey!!” Andrea said, laughing.
Giving a little bow as she had been taught, Kris walked through the applause back to her chair and sat down. All the guys were smiling, which she considered a good thing. She’d been slightly afraid that she might be passing over unseen lines with a song like that but even Raph’s slight nod of approval let her know that she had done well.
“Well, I’d say let’s hope none of us go through something like that again…but what’s the point with this game. Drea.”
“Again with the picking on Drea! New rule. There has to be at least four or five other turns between mine here! But I pick…dare I guess. Nothing to fear right?” she asked, winking at her long time friend. “But Kris…it has better be a good one.”
Kris tapped her chin thoughtfully. “Something good huh? Hm…oh!” The hand came down and she grinned deviously. “I dare you…to stand in the bathroom with all the doors shut for five minutes.”
“Good one Kris,” Andrea drawled sarcastically.
Kris’s grin widened. “Staring into the mirror the entire time…with all the lights off.”
The cocky grin vanished from the older girls face almost immediately, along with any color. “Are you kidding?”
“Nope.”
“Oh…you are sooo mean.”
“Uh…what’s the big deal about standing in the dark for five minutes?” Raph asked.
Andrea, who had dropped her had into her folded arms, muttered something that came out muffled and entirely incoherent.
“You’re gonna have to repeat that. Didn’t catch a word of it.”
She looked up at him, her expression almost comically pained. “When I was younger I was at this…well, this kind of party and everyone was playing truth or dare, oddly enough. I was dared to go into the bathroom and call this ghost…Bloody Mary. I guess if you stared into the bathroom mirror with the lights out and said this ghosts name seven times that she would appear in the mirror, all covered in blood, seeking vengeance and ready to haunt you. I said the name seven times…but the last three were while I was running out the door. So…I just get a little nervous in dark bathrooms.”
“You afraid of the dark or somethin’?” the red masked turtle asked, meaning it as a joke. When she gave him a wounded look though, he suddenly wished he had kept his mouth shut. “Hey…I’m sorry. I didn’t-.”
“Oh, it’s okay. Everybody’s got to be afraid of something, right?”
“Right,” Kris answered for him, “and it’s high time you conquer yours love. To the bathroom!”
Andrea released a loud sigh and pushed away from the table. The others did the same, moving in a group to Kris’s room.
“Hey Leo, did you tell Sensei when we were going to be back?” Mikey asked as they approached the door to the bathroom.
“Um…no. Don, you didn’t say anything to him, did you?”’
“No.”
“Well, I’m gonna go call him and tell him we’re…at a movie with Casey and April or something.” Before Leo could object to the lie or comment on how atypically responsible he was being, the youngest brother exited the room and tried to find another bedroom. He knew there was three to this place and only one bathroom from what Catey had told him earlier, so that meant each of the bedroom’s fed into that one bathroom.
Going into one room where the blankets were draped over the foot of the bed and clothes hung over ever available chair, table and the TV, Mikey went to the closed door that would have been just opposite the one Andrea had gone into and waited to hear the muffled snap of the door sliding into place. Then, as quietly as he could, he opened his door and stepped into the dark bathroom.
“Chill dudettes, it’s just me,” he whispered upon hearing Andrea’s startled gasp.
“Mikey?! What are you doing?”
He closed the door behind him, throwing the room into complete darkness. “Give me a sec.” He held his hands out in front of him, blindly searching for a surface to grab onto as he allowed his vision to adjust. “Jeez. How big is this place?”
“Pretty big. Here…”
He felt one of her hands close around his wrist and concentrated on her outline until she came slightly into focus. “So babe, how ya doin?”
She laughed softly. “Been better. Now, are you going to tell me why you’re in here?”
“Call of nature, why else would I be in here?” He laughed, dodging her hand when he sensed it coming. It landed regardless, a harmless blow to his upper arm. “Joking Drea. When I was a kid I was scared of the dark. I guess you could say I’m just being sympathetic to your current situation.”
Andrea moved closer to him, unaware that her own phobia was causing her to cling to the younger mutant. “That’s sweet of you Mikey.”
“I do what I can babe. So, where’s this mirror.”
She hesitated with her response, already not liking where this was going. “It’s…on the right.”
“We’d be facing it if we turned then?”
“Yeah…Mikey-.”
“No worries babe,” he reassured her, his hand closing around hers in a protective, brotherly gesture that warmed her heart. “I got ya. If anything creepy jumps out that mirror, ghost or not I’ll kick its ass, okay?”
She couldn’t help herself, she laughed. “Okay. Let’s get this over with then.”
On the count of three the two turned and faced the mirror. All that was distinguishable in the reflective glass was their outlines and that alone was enough to make Andrea move even closer to Mikey, pressing against his side in her fear. “I officially do not like this.”
Again Mikey tightened his hand around hers. “Talk about something else. Take your mind off it.”
“Okay…something else, something else.” The wheels in her brain turned, sluggish due to her fear. She closed her eyes, shutting out the image of herself in the dark mirror. “Okay Mikey…want to tell me how you feel about Catey?”
“I told you guys that already. Remember?”
“Oh yeah…sorry. Um, are you going to act on those feeling at all?”
There was a pause. “You think she’d really go for it?”
Immediately Andrea’s fear was forgotten, driven away by the sadness and doubt in his voice and replaced by the need to reassure the young turtle that Catey would happily have him if he were just to ask. “I don’t think Mikey…I know she would. I know for a fact that she’s interested. And if you need more proof than that, then I’ll just get the truth out of her and see what I can make her confess to, okay?”
“Sure, why not. It’s not like I’ve got a lot to lose here.” He paused, staring at their reflections and wondering where these amazing women had come from. They were so different-outgoing, beautiful, kind and most importantly, unafraid. He’d never met anyone like that and couldn’t help but hope that these four women would be able to give him and his brothers the one thing they had been craving so desperately from the moment they were old enough to understand the concept yet never thought they would be able to get-love.
Glancing in askance at the woman beside him, he decided to dig up a little dirt himself and see if he couldn’t find out which of his brothers stood a chance with her. Of course, he already had a feeling he knew, but it never hurt to be certain. So, based on his assumption, he took a risk. “You gonna tell Raph how you feel about him?”
Andrea’s eye’s snapped open and her head came up. “What?”
“Well, you kinda got a thing for him, don’t you?”
“I…” Okay, what was the point of lying? They were all going to know sooner or later anyway. “Yes, I do like him.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. He’s cute, brooding, kind of arrogant and-,” before she could stop it from happening, she turned into a love sick woman, forgetting her present company as her thoughts turned to his red masked brother, “his eyes are so dark…and so intense. You could get lost in eyes like that. Or at least I could. I try not to stare but its just so…tempting.”
Mikey could barely suppress a grin as he watched Andrea’s profile. “That’s a bit more than just a thing.”
“A lot more,” Andrea murmured, sighing into the darkness. “Do you think…I mean would he be-?” She couldn’t manage to finish the question.
Mikey knew where she was going with it though. Would Raph want to be in a relationship with her? Unlike Don, Leo and himself who all wanted attention from the opposite sex, Raph was the one who needed it. He was lonely, a fact that was obvious to his brothers and Sensei. He was the one who kept his emotions to himself, locking them away and hiding them behind a thick wall of anger and indifference that none of them had ever been able to breach. But having a girlfriend, someone who could give him what his brothers, his family couldn’t might finally make him open up and stop hurting so much.
“Like you said to me babe, I know you’ve got a chance. A real good one actually. The night I ahh…caught him watching you he said you were the one he was interested in.”
“Really?” Andrea asked hopefully.
“Yup. Well, I’d better sneak out. Pretty sure you’re time’s almost up and I’ve got a phone call to make. You going to be okay on your own?”
“Yeah Mikey.” Impulsively, she threw her arms around the young mutant’s neck and hugged him tightly. “Thanks for keeping me company.”
Michelangelo hugged her back. “Any time Drea.” Then, with a faint creek of the door, he was gone and she was alone in the dark once more.
Taking a deep breath as her heartbeat accelerated, Andrea forced herself to remain calm, contemplating her outline in the mirror. There really wasn’t anything to be frightened about. She knew she was alone and refused to let her overactive imagination tell her otherwise. “Raph’s interested in me,” she told herself instead, smiling broadly.
With her time running out, Andrea decided to lay her fears completely to rest. Squaring her shoulders, she stared into the darkness reflected before her and very slowly repeated the words “Bloody Mary” seven times in a low, unwavering voice. She waited, half expecting blood to stain the walls and the image of a morbidly emaciated woman to appear in the mirror, but nothing happened.
Feeling slightly foolish and relieved, she turned to face the door just as it swung open and the lights came on. She winced at the sudden brightness then glared at the dark haired woman smiling at her from the open doorway.
“You want to warn me the next time you’re going to do that?”
Kris shook her head, green eyes sparkling mischievously. “Now where would the fun be in that?”
Moving past Kris, Andrea ruffled her hair affectionately and lifted her eyes, unintentionally locking gazes with Raph. Her breath hitched slightly. Do something besides just standing here and staring at him, her mind screamed and she obeyed, offering him a shy smile, which she saw him return before she forced herself to look away. “Alright my possible future victims, let’s get back to the table so that we can keep this game moving,” she said, leading the way out of Kris’s bedroom.
She saw Mikey coming out of Catey’s room and they exchanged looks, smiling and winking at one another. “Did you get a hold of your Sensei?”
“Yup. We’re all clear. You babe’s got us for the rest of the night.”
“Good to hear.” Andrea sat down and waited for the others to get comfortable before selecting her prey. “Catey.”
The petite blond jerked to attention. “Yes Ma’am!”
“Truth or dare hun?”
“Dare.”
“Get your rifle sweetie. You’re about to do a little improv.”
Catey’s jaw dropped and she stared in shock at her oldest friend. “You’re evil!”
Andrea merely smiled. As Catey trudged away, muttering her objections, Mikey leaned across the table. “Did you just say rifle?”
“Yup. No worries hun. Not the kind you’re thinking,” she reassured him.
Catey reappeared a few minutes later with her color guard rifle and Andrea jumped up, crossing the room to the surround sound system next to the T.V.
“Better be something I can work with,” the younger woman grumbled in a last ditch effort to voice her displeasure at being forced to do this.
Andrea grinned widely at her as she pressed the play button. “Oh, I think you’ll find it highly acceptable.”
Seconds later one of Catey’s favorite songs “Hey Mama” by the Black Eyed Peas poured from the speakers. The spunky blonde gave a short laugh, shaking her head. At least Andrea had found a way to make this sudden public performance a bit more bearable.
Moving to the middle of the living room, Catey faced her audience. It had been such a long time since she’d done this, but as soon as her mind picked up the beat, her hands started to work on their own accord. In no time at all she had the rifle spinning in a blurred circle. Every move she made was with the music and flawless, each executed with confidence. Even the high tosses she was usually nervous as heck about doing were performed without fault.
She ended with a dramatic flair and struck a pose, feeling truly exhilarated.
Andrea cut the music, turning it to a local station and turning down the music as enthusiastic applause filled the room. Blushing, Catey set her rifle aside and returned to the table, already plotting a form of revenge against the leggy blond who was following her with smug grin.
Oh, you’re gonna get it Drea, she thought with half-hearted malice, taking her seat. Two strong arms wrapped around her waist, taking her mind off thoughts of revenge and the next thing she knew, she was sitting in Mikey’s lap.
“Awesome stuff babe,” he said appreciatively, smiling up at her. “Think you could teach me some of those moves?”
She returned his smile and draped an arm over his shoulders, only slightly surprised by her own boldness. “Depends. What’s in it for me?”
“Time alone with yours truly. What else could you ask for?”
“Alright Catey, quit flirting and pick a victim,” Kris said, watching her giggle over Mikey’s horrible, yet highly effective pick up line.
Catey stuck her tongue out at the raven-haired beauty but did not stop smiling. She made no attempt to move out of Mikey’s lap either, looking truly content right where she was. “Alrighty. Umm…Christy. Truth or dare?”
“Truth,” the brunette replied, her bottle of water paused half way to her lips.
“Truth? Okay. Hm, do you have any more than friendly feeling towards the guy sitting to your right?”
Christy almost stopped breathing. This girl was turning out to be pretty straightforward. Usually she liked straightforward. She didn’t believe wasting time or mincing words so frank people were just fine in her book. However, when it came to her and the feelings she’d had locked up inside her, refusing to give them to no one but the man she felt truly deserving of her affection, she found herself quite adverse to questions involving that and the straightforward people asking them.
Come on, the girl’s not out to get you, her inner voice chided. Everyone’s just having fun and it’s JUST a game, one you fully agreed to play.
Well, she couldn’t argue with that. Taking a moment to ponder how best to answer and chew thoughtfully on her bottom lip, Christy thought of how slowly the walls between friendly flirtation and all out boldness were being broken down. Catey had already taken a huge chunk out of that wall, simply by sitting in Mikey’s lap. Maybe now would be a good time to help take that boundary down, destroy all boarders and really make something of this game.
Sensing Donnie’s discomfort with either the question or the fact that she hadn’t answered yet and remembering Kris’s rule about taking your sweet time, Christy grinned wickedly, then leaned over and pressed her lips softly against Donnie’s cheek. He stiffened in surprise and just like everyone else, his jaw dropped.
Quite pleased with herself, she sat back and took a calm sip of water as everyone continued to stare at her. Beside her, Donnie was now grinning, his cheeks taking on a dark, ruddy color.
“Well,” the young red-head said somewhat primly after putting her water down, “I guess you could call that a yes.”
“Yeah, no shit,” Andrea commented.
Her choice of words started Kris giggling and soon everyone joined in.
“Okay, okay,” Kris managed once she had calmed somewhat, “Who’s next Christy?”
Christy scanned the faces around the table. Now that wall was going to come completely down, she’d see to that! Her eyes landed on her victim and she smiled, remembering Kris’s little crush on this certain character. “Leo, truth or dare?”
The blue masked turtle gazed at her for a moment, his eyes narrowing in suspicion before he answered, “dare.”
“I dare you to, with one hand only and without looking…unhook Kris’s bra.”
Another stunned silence filled the room, one Andrea broke by bursting out laughing. “Oh, I love it! Now we’re getting somewhere.”
As the blond continued laughing, joined by Mikey and Catey, Kris gaped at Christy. “You’re not serious, are you?”
“Oh, dead serious.”
“Better pray it’s not a front clasp Leo,” Andrea quipped, finally managing to drag Raph in on all the laughter.
Both Kris and Leo blushed, then shot each other uncertain glances. “There’s no honor in this,” Leo muttered for lack of anything better to say.
“Yeah…honor’s kind of something this game lacks.” Kris forced a smile to her lips, jokingly adding, “Do it in under two minutes and you can keep the bra.”
She expected him to laugh, feel a little less uncomfortable. What she didn’t expect was for him to give her a heart-melting grin that bordered on evil and say, “alright.”
Andrea, always helpful in situations that didn’t involve her own embarrassment, looked at her watch. “Two minutes. You’re gonna be out one bra Kris.”
“You timing me?” Leo asked.
“You bet. Make me proud.” She gave him a wink, then looked back down at her watch. “Ready…go.”
Kris stifled a gasp as Leo’s hand stole up the back of her shirt and again when his fingers brushed against her spine, leaving a trail of heat in their wake.
“Jeez, how many hooks are on this thing?” he muttered, trying to get a decent grip on the satiny fabric.
“Um…two, I think,” she managed to say after swallowing thickly. Her heart was racing, an unsteady tattoo that she knew was responsible for the trembling hands she held clasped in her lap. She couldn’t think. Even forming words seemed to take too much effort. Well, she could manage to think one thing. She was going to really…really hurt Christy for this one.
“One minute,” Andrea said.
Kris let out a startle gasp when her support suddenly gave out, but refrained from crossing her arms over her chest. She was mortified enough as it was; she felt no need to show everyone that fact.
“One minute, three seconds. Pretty good for a guy with only three fingers,” Andrea congratulated Leo, beaming at him while ignoring Kris’s pointed look of annoyance. “Going to claim your reward?”
“Only if I get a sweatshirt first,” Kris grumbled sullenly.
Leo offered to get one for her and left the table, disappearing into Kris’s room.
“Oh come on Kris…you’re not really that mad,” Andrea said, an amused smirk still fixed on her face.
Sighing, Kris shook her head. “No. Points to Christy for boldness though.” She shot a quick grin to her red headed friend. “I fully intend to get you back.”
“I fully anticipate it,” she replied, returning the smile. “Just remember, I had nothing to do with you actually giving him you’re bra. You did that one on your own.”
“I know.” Kris looked up as Leo came back into the room, one of her sweatshirts hanging from his hand. She immediately set to pouting, removing his “prize” in the most inconspicuous way possible. “Man, this was my favorite one too.”
“You can always buy a new one,” Andrea said, as if that were some kind of consolation.
Kris refused to level another cutting gaze on her friend, knowing that by now, Andrea was fully aware of how bizarre this situation was, not to mention out of character for someone like the exotic Hawaiian. She’d never even thought about doing anything like this before. Well, there was a first time for everything, although she never figured a first time for a bra removal would be in another dimension with four mutant turtles in the room. Yeah, never saw that one coming.
She took off her bra with a flourish, plucked the sweatshirt from Leo’s hand and gave him his so-called-prize, laughing when he fumbled it, his cheeks turning bright red. Good! At least now she wasn’t the only one dealing with embarrassment.
Tucking the silky under garment in his back pocket, Leo resumed his seat and immediately chose his next victim. “Drea.”
“Truth,” the blond replied with a smug grin that reminded him way too much of Raph.
Leo opened his mouth to speak but Kris leaned over and whispered something that immediately put a halt to what he was going to say.
At the sight of the smile spreading slowly over his face, warning bells went off in Andrea’s head. “What the hell is this?” she muttered, sitting up as the grin disappeared from her own lips. Those two were up to something and she was willing to guess it was no good. When Kris moved away from Leo, giving Andrea a wink, the older woman knew she was in trouble.
“Alright Andrea…what color is your bra AND…is it the same one you were wearing before you changed?”
Oh yeah, she was in trouble. She slouched back against her chair and closed her eyes. She could literally feel everyone looking at her and was painfully aware of one of those gazed in particular.
You agreed to play this game, her inner voice reminded her. It sounded just as smug as she had felt only moments before. With a sigh, Andrea reached under the collar of her shirt, hooked the strap of her bra with her index finger and pulled it out so that everyone was able to see the bright red slip of fabric.
“And?” Leo prompted her.
Andrea opened her eyes to glare at him. “No…it wasn’t.”
If Raph couldn’t figure out all of this, he wasn’t nearly as smart as Andrea had thought he was. And if he was smart enough…
She risked a quick glance at him and heat flooded her cheeks. He wasn’t looking at her, he was looking at the table, arms folded over his chest. He didn’t need to be looking at her though for her to see the knowing grin on his face. He knew.
Well, nothing she could really do about it now, was there? Swallowing her mortification, she sat up and zeroed her gaze in on Mikey and Catey. “Hey Mikey…truth or dare?”
“Dare.”
Andrea smiled. Time to have a little fun…and get her mind off the fact that Raph probably had her figured out. “I dare you to go down to the apartment below ours, knock on the door and ask for something totally out of the ordinary. Be creative…and keep the hood down.”
“Oh…you’re so on babe,” he said, ignoring Leo’s look of strict disapproval.
Slightly excited by the first true dare that involved something so drastic, the group made their way out the door and piled into the elevator, laughing as they ran into one another in their haste. Even Leo, although wary at first, seemed to be having fun.
Kris purposely collided with Andrea, taking advantage of the fact that Andrea was more interested in setting the viewing screen on the monitor and switching it to vibrate, and sent each of them stumbling into their romantic interests. It wasn’t planned at all; it was simply the result of one woman knowing she was doing the other a favor.
“Oh! I’m so sorry,” Kris cried softly after almost taking an unsuspecting Leo down.
He held her waist, waited for her to gain her balance and assured her that he was okay. Kris smiled her thanks and quickly crossed her arms over her chest, regretting the fact that she hadn’t made a stop in her bedroom to replace the missing bra.
Andrea, not expecting Kris to be thinking the exact same thing as her, yelped in surprise, falling against the firm wall of Raph’s chest. One hand came to rest on her hip as his other arm stole around her waist, steadying her. She heard Kris apologizing and knew she should do the same, but instead she found herself grinning impishly at the red masked mutant holding her and murmuring, “I’m not.”
She saw the smirk that crossed his face before turning away, regretfully forcing herself to move out of his arms.
Without warning, his arm circled her waist again and he hauled her back against him. She bit back a gasp, and let herself be pulled in, resting slightly against him. It wasn’t like she hadn’t wanted to be there in the first place.
“Alright guys…30th floor, men’s wear, shoes, intimate apparel and ultimate pranks!” Mikey called out from the front, making everyone laugh.
The doors slid shut with a metallic whoosh and the elevator lurched into motion. Andrea swayed closer to Raph and his hand slid down, coming to rest low on her waist. Her skin tingled where he touched. She couldn’t help but wish that they were alone. Oh, the things they could do then. She’d have him backed into the corner right about now, kissing him as her hands roamed restlessly over his body. Or maybe it would be the other way around. Maybe he would be the one dominating her. The thought alone made her knees feel weak and her body shiver involuntarily.
The door slid open, rudely interrupting her thoughts. As Mikey checked the hallways, Raph’s arm slid away, leaving her feeling cold and very disappointed.
“Alright, here we go!” Mikey exclaimed. Pulling his hood down, he flashed them a winning smile and was gone.
Everyone inside the elevator clamored for a view, leaning out as far as they dared to watch the youngest of the four turtles. Mikey made it to the door and cleared his throat, lifting his hand. Before he knocked, he looked back towards the elevator to make sure everyone was looking. They were. It was show time!
He knocked twice, then clasped his hands behind his back and waited. A minute later the door was opened by a middle-aged woman with a prune like face. Her dark hair was pulled back into a severe twist, she wore rich, flowing clothing that did nothing to soften her stony features and wore an expression of ultimate haughtiness that fell away immediately upon seeing the large, human sized turtle standing in the hallway.
Putting on his brightest smile, Mikey squared his shoulders and said loud enough for the others to hear, “Hi, I’m Mikey from BJ’s entertainment and I’ll be your stripper for the evening. So…” he rubbed his hands together eagerly, “where’s the birthday girl?”
The lady’s stricken look had been gradually falling and by the time he finished, her face had been completely washed of color.
He knew what was coming before it even happened and braced himself. Her dull brown eyes went impossibly wide, her shoulders hitched and she released an ear-shattering shriek. It was a short-lived scream, thank God, ending when her eyes rolled back into her head and her body crumpled to the ground.
“Another fainter…go figure,” Mikey muttered wryly. He could already hear the alarmed voices coming towards him from somewhere in the lavish hotel room.
“Mikey, come on man!” Donnie hissed.
Offering a quiet “sorry ma’am” Mikey ran for the elevator, ducking in just as the door started to slide shut. “That was a close one!”
Towards the back of the elevator, Christy, Catey, Kris and Andrea were all laughing uncontrollably, clutching their sides. Leo was shaking his head, but looked highly amused. Donnie was more subdued, chuckling softly and Raph was just giving him an interested, yet bored look, the kind only Raph could give.
“A stripper, huh?” he asked.
Mikey shrugged. “She said to be creative.”
They made it back up to the girl’s room without anything major happening, much to Mikey’s relief. The dare was fun, but he was a little worried that some panicked husband was going to hear about the human sized turtle that had knocked on his door claiming to be a stripper and hunt him down. He personally breathed a lot easier once they were all back in the suite and the door was locked.
“Okay stud, you’re turn,” Andrea reminded him as she slid into her seat.
Catey tried to take the chair next to him and he snagged her around the waist, gently jerking her back into his lap. She laughed, but allowed him this one simple pleasure, wrapping an arm around his neck. “Who should I pick?” he asked her.
Looking around the table, Catey tried to think of who was not getting enough attention. Hands down, it was Raph. He hadn’t been picked on once since this game had begun. But that was okay. Catey and Kris had plans for that one. Still, he was probably starting to wonder. Maybe now would be a good time to set that little plan in motion.
Catching Kris’s eye, the young blond gave her a meaningful look. After receiving a nod of affirmation, she leaned over and whispered her pick to Mikey.
“Hey Kris, truth or dare?” the orange masked turtle asked.
Kris smiled. She’d known this was coming. “Dare.”
“I dare ya to arm wrestle Leo.”
She’d seen it coming…but had not anticipated this. “But his arm alone is like…three of mine!” She laughed incredulously.
“How about this. Win…and you get your bra back.”
Kris’s smile disappeared. That was her favorite bra. How could she possibly say no? Then again, how could she possibly win? She knew Leo didn’t do losing and she was fully aware of how much stronger than her he was…but that was her favorite bra! She sighed. Oh the things she did for expensive underwear. “Deal.”
“Nice! Okay, Drea…you want to hold their hands and make sure they start fair?”
As Andrea moved to stand between them, Leo and Kris faced each other, resting their elbows on the table and clasping hands. The sudden contact set Kris’s arm and several other places, aflame. She licked her lips nervously, unaware of how a certain pair of eyes watched that movement, and drummed her fingers over his, securing her grip. She would lose for sure if she didn’t get her hormones somewhat under control.
Andrea’s hands covered theirs and she made sure no one had cocked their wrist in order to gain the advantage. “Alright guys. Ready?”
“Yeah,” they answered in unison, their arms tensing.
Andrea let go and the struggle for power began. They both held their own for a long time, staring each other down with frowns of concentration as the others cheered them on.
“Geez, you’re pretty strong,” Leo admitted, then started to push her arm down.
A pain shot from Kris’s wrist down the length of her arm and she bit down on her lower lip to keep from gasping. She couldn’t let him win! A surge of adrenaline coursed through her and she pushed back, forcing Leo’s arm past the halfway point and gaining the advantage.
Catey and Christy cheered wildly as Leo’s brothers groaned and Andrea tried to remain inconspicuous while shooting glances down the hallway and checking her baby monitor.
“You say that…as if you were underestimating me,” Kris grunted as she forced his hand further.
“No…just surprised.” He pulled back and once again their arms were centered. “I admire strength in a woman…but that doesn’t mean I’m going to let you win.” A smug grin stole over his face and he quickly started to eliminate the space between Kris’s hand and the table.
No! Kris pulled back, gritting her teeth, but it was no use. He was winning. Suddenly, a thought came to mind, one definitely worthy of Andrea. Alright, desperate times call for desperate measures as they say, she thought with an evil smile. “So, Leo…” she purred, “when you saw me in the bedroom with nothing on but that towel…did ya want to just…rip it right off me?””
Her words had the exact amount of shock value she needed. Leo’s jaw dropped, his arm went slack and she took that opportunity to jerk his hand over to her side, winning their little match.
Still smiling, she held out the hand that wasn’t smarting from over exertion. “My bra please?”
Quickly coming out of his stupor, Leo glared at her, but returned the smile. “Very sneaky…and totally unfair.” He fished her bra out of his back pocket and handed it to her
Since she couldn’t really put it on right then and there due to present company and the fact that they were in the middle of a game, she crammed the flimsy under wire into the pouch of her sweatshirt. True comfort, it seemed, would just have to wait. Besides, she had better things to do, and hopefully those “things” wouldn’t back fire and leave her best friend heartbroken.
Sharing another sly look with Catey, Kris scanned the faces around the table, purposely taking her time. “Okay…I choose Raph,” she finally said.
“Bout damn time. Dare.”
Perfect! The raven-haired woman grinned, hoping she was doing the right thing. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah,” he replied tersely, “so what’s it gonna be?”
Kris looked at Andrea and her wicked grin widened considerably. Her intentions were immediately given away and the blonde’s eye’s went wide, her lips parting in silent disbelief. Or was it the beginning of a protest? It didn’t really matter. Kris was going through with this whether Andrea liked it or not. “I dare you…to kiss Drea. And I’m not talking a wimpy peck either. Make it good or you’ll have to do it over.”
Raph, although far from feeling calm, forced his expression to remain impassive. He hadn’t expected this kind of dare. Sure, he’d been thinking about it, especially on the elevator, but he hadn’t acted on his wayward thoughts. And now Kris was daring him to. He’d seriously underestimated this girl’s bluntness. “Only if she wants to,” he said.
“Oh trust me…she wants to,” Kris answered for her still speechless friend.
“Well…guess we better not hold this game up,” he said with false confidence, smiling hesitantly at Andrea. “You know how Kris is about stallin’.”
Andrea chuckled softly, the sound instantly cut off as Raphael’s amazingly tender lips hesitantly touched hers. She was shocked that he’d moved so quickly. ‘Tis the art of the ninja I suppose,’ would have been her thoughts if she could think about anything besides how warm he was and how badly she wanted to touch him. It took some major struggling on her part to force her brain out of the fog is had momentarily fallen into, and realize that he wasn’t doing much else than keeping his lips pressed against hers. Oh god, he doesn’t know, she thought, feeling a pang of sympathy. She reached out quickly and grabbed his hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze and praying he would understand that she meant for him to do as she did.
More than just a little self-conscious of the fact that his knowledge of kissing was next to nothing, Raph started to give up on himself when he felt Andrea’s cool fingers close around his hand and squeeze. The second he felt her lips slowly part and her tongue gently run against the seam of his lips, he knew he was in for one thorough and enjoyable lesson.
Surprisingly, his mouth started to react on its own, molding and moving against hers as if it had known what to do all along. He forgot to be nervous and those hormones that had been pent up for a very, very long time took over. The kiss, something that had started off so hesitant and unsure, took on a desperate edge as the two tilted their heads slightly, searching for something deeper and more fulfilling. Her hand clenched his, her teeth nipped at his bottom lip and a hunger blazed to life within him, evoking the urge to touch her. He started to act on that urge, running his free hand slowly from her calf, over her knee and up her thigh, when someone very loudly and very intentionally cleared their throats.
Jerking apart, Andrea and Raph stared at each other in wonder. She was the first to break the eye contact, pressing her fingers to her lips and turning away, a dazed expression on her face.
Tearing his gaze away from the beautiful woman who’d just taught him his very first lesson in intimacy; Raph faced Kris and cleared his throat. “Good enough?”
“Uh,” Kris looked back and forth between her friend and the red masked turtle, wondering if Andrea would be okay. She looked worlds away and after a kiss like that Kris honestly couldn’t blame her. “Yeah. That was….really good.”
“I second that,” Catey said, somewhat breathlessly.
After that, Andrea and Raph seemed to lose interest in the game and it eventually dwindled away to nothing, brought to an official end when Kris excused herself to “regain some dignity” and Mikey and Don convinced Catey and Christy to watch Home Alone with them, leaving Leo, Raph and Andrea at the table.
Andrea watched the movie for a moment, still feeling shaken from Raph’s kiss, then decided, despite the fact that it was one of her favorite Christmas movies, that she desperately needed some air. Quietly excusing herself, she grabbed her hooded sweatshirt from the chair she’d thrown it over earlier in the week, slipped it over her head, grabbed a candy cane from the kitchen counter and was out the door in a matter of seconds.
The cold air hitting her flushed face was more than welcome. She took deep breaths of it, unwrapping her candy cane as she moved to the ledge. A quick check of the baby monitor showed Sammy sleeping soundly, undisturbed by the rambunctious game going on in the other room. That anxiety calmed, her mind turned to more pleasure filled thoughts. Kissing Raph…lord, what a rush that had been. Sucking on the cane, she allowed her mind to replay those bliss filled moments over and over until she felt weak kneed and had to lean against the concrete ledge for support. She had no idea that it was going to be that good. There was only one downfall that she was able to find…and that was the after effects, the ones she couldn’t seem to shake. She was still trembling, her insides felt like jelly and she couldn’t stop questioning herself. Had he liked the kiss? Did she do something wrong? Did he want her as badly as she wanted him?
Groaning, Andrea doubled over and dropped her head. Never in her life had she felt so frustrated. Emotionally…and most definitely sexually…another after effect.
The porch door slid open, allowing some of the noise from inside to flow out into the cold momentarily before sliding shut again. Andrea had an idea of who it was coming out to visit her, so she remained where she was, staring out at the busy city while sucking away at her candy cane.
Despite the fact that she knew, her heart still lurched into her throat as Raph came to stand beside her, crossing his arms and resting them on the ledge as she had. “Hey there,” he murmured softly.
“Hi,” she replied past a mouthful of peppermint-flavored candy.
This must have amused him, because he glanced at her, chuckled quietly and turned his attention back to the city. “Aren’t you cold?”
“Hm. Not really. I’m from North Dakota and it gets a hell of a lot colder up there than it does here.”
“If you’re from North Dakota…what are ya’ doin’ here?”
Andrea shrugged, hooking a finger around the cane and pulling it from her mouth. “Vacation, I guess. It’s kind of like…we had nothing better to do, we’d all celebrated the holidays early with our families and thought we owed it to ourselves to take a trip. New York was easy to decide on. We’ve all wanted to come here at least once in our lives.” Or have wished to come here, she added silently.
“So…you likin’ the city then?”
Cocking her head to the side, Andrea contemplated the twinkling lights spread before her. “It’s pretty. I like the Christmas decorations…but-.” She lowered her gaze to her hands. No matter how she worded this, she was going to sound like a hick. “I’m a country girl. Spent most of my life on a farm raising livestock. The city is beautiful and all…but I’d rather be out where I could see nothing but hillsides, trees and clear blue skies for miles. And…and that was totally sappy.” She laughed, shaking her head. “I’m probably as far from city girl as they get. Doesn’t mean I won’t have fun while I’m here though. So, ready to answer a question of mine?” She turned to him, one arm remaining on the ledge and an eyebrow arching attractively.
He studied her for a minute, his expression unreadable, then nodded. “Sure. Go for it.”
“Okay. Does it…get pretty lonely…you know, being what you are?” she asked, praying he wouldn’t be offended.
He appeared no more than startled by her question. “Well…yeah,” he answered softly. “Kind comes with the territory. Not a lot of people want to be around somethin’ they don’t consider normal.”
“That’s not true,” Andrea murmured softly.
Raph gave her a weak half grin. “Okay…so there are a few exceptions…but not many.” He turned his attention to the city below, a disturbed look overtaking his face. “I’ve been around for years and you’re the first girl I’ve ever kissed, how sad is that? Probably didn’t even do it right.”
Andrea bit her lip to keep from smiling and wondered if he had any idea how wrong he was. “I beg to differ hun,” she said.
He gave her a look of complete confusion and she loved it. He really didn’t think he was a capable kisser!
“Raph.” She closed the distance between them and pressed a hand gently to his cheek. “That kiss was amazing. I could hardly think straight afterwards. I was still shaking when I came out here! You honey, are incredibly good at what you do.”
His hand came up and closed around her wrist as dark eyes searched hers. “Kinda helps when you’re learnin’ from the best.”
Andrea’s heart fluttered and she blushed. She was suddenly very aware of how close they were, of how inching forward just a little would eliminate all space between them. Unable to resist, needing to be as close to him as possible and to feel his body against hers, she leaned in. “You know…if you still feel like you’re not so great at it…I’d be more than happy to let you keep practicing.”
A slow grin curved his lips and his arm circled her waist. Breathing became a task, her stomach quivered in anticipation; her entire body ached for him and him alone.
“You would, huh?” he murmured. His mouth brushed against hers and a tiny moan slipped past her parted lips. “Guess I’ll have to take you up on that.”
Impatience claimed her as its victim and she pressed her mouth to his, taking them both by surprise. His hand drifted away from her wrist and down her arm, sliding around her waist. He hugged her close, enjoying the feel of her against him. He’d been denied this his entire life and because of that was probably a little more demanding than he should have been, but she didn’t seem to mind. As her arms wrapped around his neck, she returned the kiss with a hunger that matched his. Then she abruptly jerked back, her gaze darting to the glass balcony doors.
“What?” he asked in a low, gruff voice.
She watched the doors a moment longer, than took a fistful of his sweater near the collar in her hand. “Come on,” she whispered, pulling him into a dark corner of the balcony where no one could see what they were doing.
The first thing her back encountered was a wall, something of which Raph was all too eager to press her up against as his mouth came down on hers again.
Andrea’s body reacted almost violently, arching against his in silent invitation as her blood boiled, coursing through her veins and creating within her a fathomless need that demanded to be satisfied.
Their mouths moved together in an age-old sensual rhythm, tongues caressing as they clung to one another. He made a noise deep in his throat and she shuddered in response, her need intensified to the point of unbearable. One hand clutched at his shirt. She wanted it off now so that she could feel the hard muscle beneath it and trace the contours of his shell with her fingers. She had known that when they finally met she would want him…but she had no idea she would want him this badly!
Somehow, without even realizing he’d done it, Raph’s hand ended up under Andrea’s shirt and was slowly traveling north, over the expanse of soft flesh. It settled between her breasts as he battled with indecisions and he could feel the rapid pulse of her heart pounding beneath his palm. It surprised him. He’d really excited her that much? He inhaled deeply, catching just the faintest hint of her scent, which told him in no uncertain terms that yes, she did want him. Badly.
Confidence dramatically boosted, he gently took one full globe in his hand and watched, amazed, as her head fell back and she elicited a small moan of pleasure. His eyed dropped to her arched neck and soon after his mouth followed, feasting on the exposed and highly sensitive skin.
Of course, someone would choose that exact moment to interrupt.
The balcony door slid open, going unnoticed by the two still locked in a heated embrace.
“Drea, you out here?”
Kris’s voice had the effect of a bucket of ice-cold water being thrown in one’s face. The two quickly broke apart, but not before Kris’s wide-eyed gaze found them out. “Well,” she said in a voice dripping with amusement, “I don’t remember daring you to do that.”
Raph shifted slightly to hide the fact that his hand was still up Andrea’s shirt, but he didn’t reply. His mind wasn’t exactly capable of throwing out quick, witty one-liners at the moment.
With her arms still draped around Raph’s shoulders, Andrea smiled at her friend. “What’s up Kris?”
Kris shrugged. “Not much. We were going to make popcorn and watch a movie. You guys in? That is…if you’re not too busy.”
“We’re in,” Andrea replied. She knew that now was a better time than ever to put a stop to what she and Raph had been doing. Things were getting too out of control and he had only just met her today. She wanted him to know more about her before they got seriously intimate. And she wanted to feel like more than just a woman that he could take his…frustrations out on. “Go ahead and start the popcorn. We’ll be there in a bit.”
With a nod, Kris went back inside, leaving the two alone. Andrea looked back at Raph, surprised to see him watching her intently and highly amused by the fact that he’d never removed his hand from her breast. She arched a brow in question, her lips curving up in a slow grin. Returning it, he squeezed gently and his hand fell away. It remained under her shirt though, circling her waist and he pulled her close.
With an audible sigh, she went into those strong arms that held her and made her feel so safe. She rested her head on his shoulder. Her mind swam with thoughts-I can’t believe this is happening, I can’t believe I’m here in his arms-and on top of that her body ached from being denied what it craved so badly. Soon, she promised, soon.
“And you thought you were doing it wrong,” she muttered dryly, clearly indicating that he’d done everything just right. Maybe too right. She was still shaking and her heart was still pounding frantically away.
Raph did nothing but smile, unable to form words and not even knowing if he’d be able to speak them without stuttering. So he did what he thought was smart and kept his mouth shut, content to simply hold her.
Apparently, however, it wasn’t the right thing to do. Andrea suddenly jerked back, staring at him with wide, apprehensive eyes. “Don’t tell me you didn’t like it?!” she almost squeaked.
“What? No!” Thankfully his ability to speak returned full force from her panicked look alone. “No…I just…couldn’t really talk for a minute there. It was definitely good. Better than good.”
“Oh.” The apprehension melted away and she smiled brightly.
“Where the hell did that come from?”
“I was…umm…being female,” she said sheepishly. “Sorry about that.”
“Forgiven…maybe.”
“Maybe?”
He grinned wickedly and her heart gave a little kick, anticipating what she knew was coming. His mouth took hers in a hot, ardent kiss and it was as if they had never been interrupted. It was hungry, thorough, and left her knees completely weak.
“And don’t think I don’t know why you want to go in,” he murmured when they parted, his warm breath fanning the side of her face and neck. “Just cuz I’ve never been with a woman doesn’t mean I’m lookin’ for the first one willin’ to jump into bed with me just so I can get laid. I’d want it to mean somethin’.”
Andrea’s mouth dropped open. “I…how…I never…” Okay, she had to stop stammering. Settling for a disgruntled sigh, she cocked a hip and gave him a reluctant lop sided smile. “Well, aren’t you perceptive.”
Raph shrugged, looking smug as ever. “You ever want to make somethin’…you know, serious about this,” his hand moved slowly up and down her spine in a slightly suggestive caress. “I’ll wait.”
She had to wipe that smirk off his face. She didn’t like that he was the one in control, the one who was making her feel like a needy first timer that he was artfully seducing. No, she didn’t like that at all. The tables had to be turned. She would be the one to leave him slack jawed and craving more…not the other way around.
Lowering her eyelids just a little so that she could watch him through the thick fringe of her lashes, she trailed one hand over his arm and let it fall between them. “Well, I would like something serious so ahh-.” She bent her head and kissed the base of his neck, then ran the tip of her tongue from the hollow of his collarbone slowly up his neck. At the same time she slid her hand up his thigh, stopping only when she was dangerously close to the part that made him so different from her. He went so still, not even taking a single breath and she knew she had him. Placing one more kiss just below his jaw, she smiled and said in a breathy, seductive voice, “have fun waiting.”
Then she pulled away, gave him a sassy smile, popped the candy cane still hooked around her index finger in her mouth, and sashayed back inside, knowing his eyes were on her hips the entire time. Sometimes, it was so good to be a woman.
Raph watched her walk away, his mouth slightly agape. When she was at the door, the hand that was on his leg only moments ago now resting on the handle, she turned and smiled at him, her blue eyes sparkling mischievously. “You coming?” she asked, her voice low, sultry and full of suggestion.
I wish, he thought. Attempting and failing to control his raging hormones (something that was impossible to do when he could still feel her hand on his leg) he followed her in.
It was warm in the suite, too warm for him. He pushed his sleeves up and went to the couch, flopping down. Don and Christy took up the other, smaller couch. They were talking quietly. Mike and Catey sat on the floor in front of the TV, going through a pile of DVD’s that littered the floor between them.
“Man, I’ve never seen so many Christmas movies,” Mikey said, setting aside Home Alone and Home Alone 2.
“Andrea has this thing for the holiday. She can’t even wait until Thanksgiving is over to start listening to Christmas music,” Kris said as she sat down opposite Raph and set a stack of cheap plastic bowls on the table. Casting Raph a sly look which he pointedly ignored, she tucked her feet beneath her. “I’m surprised she hasn’t tried decking this place out yet.”
“Just for that…I’m going shopping tomorrow,” Andrea muttered as she walked in behind Leo. She dropped an unopened beer in Raph’s lap and took a seat beside him, making herself perfectly at home. “And I vote for Christmas Vacation. It’s a classic. You can never go wrong with a classic.”
She popped the top off her own bottle of beer and aimed a smile at Raph that he could have sworn was slightly apologetic. Or at least it was a far distant cry from her little “I got you bad” smirk. Rolling his eyes in feigned exasperation, he opened an arm to her and she snuggled in, chuckling softly.
They were spared an interested look from Leo, but more or less ignored by the others as they took up spots around the living room. Catey and Mikey remained on the floor, him reclining against the side of the couch while she curled up beside him, tucked safely under his arm. Leo and Kris sat together, but not close enough to look more than friendly and Christy and Don remained where they were, their hands resting between them, just shy of touching.
Too soon it seemed, the movie was over and their wonderful evening had come to an end. As the girls followed their mutant hero’s out to the balcony, Kris snagged Andrea around the shoulders and pulled her into a half hug. This was going to be hard.
“So…are we ever going to see you guys again?” she asked, releasing her friend to open the door for them.
“After a welcome like the one you guys gave us, I’d have to say definitely,” Leo answered, giving her a smile that warmed her entire body.
Impulsively, she threw her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. “I’m holding you to that buddy.”
Hugging her back just as tightly, wishing he never had to go, Leo nodded once. “You have my word.”
Not far from them, Andrea and Raph stood facing each other, each a little uncertain of what to do. No one, aside from Kris, knew about what had happened earlier and although they might have made assumptions, the two were still wary of letting everyone know just how serious things had gotten between them in a matter of hours.
Finally, unable to stand the thought of Raph leaving without giving her a good-bye kiss, Andrea reached over and took his hand. “Come here,” she whispered as she pulled him close. She wrapped her arms around his neck, he wrapped his around her waist and their lips met in a deep, unrushed kiss.
“Hey! No way is Raph the only one who’s getting some action tonight!” Mikey cried, recovering from his shock before the others had. Determined, he grabbed Catey and swung her into a graceful dip. “You don’t mind, do ya babe?”
Startled by his sudden move and even more by his question, Catey stared up at him, her brown eyes wide. “Um… no, I don’t mind,” she said breathlessly.
Mikey grinned, then bent his head and pressed his mouth gently against hers. It was a simple kiss, but not at all lacking in sweetness. He righted her slowly and stared into her gorgeous eyes, knowing that he was going to lose his heart to this woman. If he hadn’t already, that is.
“Alright guys, we really need to get going,” Leo said. “It’s almost three.”
Biting back a curse, Raph pulled away from Andrea and rested his forehead against hers. He knew his brothers were leaving. Don was already making his way up to the roof with Leo close behind. But he just couldn’t bring himself to leave her.
“I wish you didn’t have to go,” she whispered.
He smiled and tightened his arms round her waist. “Trust me, it’s the last thing I want to do.”
“Raph…come on.”
“Yeah, yeah Leo. I’m comin’,” he grumbled irritably.
“Here.” Andrea reached into the pocket of her jeans and withdrew a small piece of paper folded neatly in half. “Here’s our number if you ever want to get a hold of us.”
“Thanks.” He took it and slipped it into his own pocket. “Well…night Drea.”
She smiled at him, nodding. “Goodnight Raph.”
He stared at her a moment longer, then, muttering “aw hell” under his breath, he wrapped a hand around the nape of her neck and gave into the urge to kiss her just once more. Third time was a charm, right?
Although it was a short kiss, it was still passionate enough to draw a moan of longing from Andrea and leave them both thoroughly shaken.
“Thanks for teachin’ me that,” he murmured and then he was gone, leaving Andrea to stare after him with a dreamy expression on her face.
“Think she’s gonna faint?” Catey asked Kris once it was just the girls.
“Not sure.” Kris walked over to Andrea and waved a hand in front of her face. “Andrea…you okay?”
The older woman closed her eyes, shivering as she pressed her fingers to her lips. “Well…anyway,” she said, waving her hand dismissively and opening her eyes again. They narrowed when they landed on the face of her dark haired friend. “You…are evil.”
“And you love it.”
Laughing, Andrea pulled Kris into a tight hug. “Man, what a great night this has been!”
“And cold,” Kris added as she hugged her back. “Can we bet back inside before I get frostbite?”
“Sure thing hun.”
As the group, the four women made their way back into the suite that seemed very empty now that the turtles were gone. “So,” Andrea said after closing the door and making sure it was locked. “Anyone else feeling in need of a drink right about now?”
