Chapter 4

" What the Hell?! "

The angry voice ripped Leo and Karai from their sound sleep, forcing them both to sit up straight up and search for the source. Adjusting his eyes from the candle-lit room to the bright light of the doorway, Leo finally noticed his brothers. Karai quickly covered her naked body before looking toward Raphael, her face burning in anger. Raphael took a step into the room, his eyes set ablaze.
" What the Hell is going on, Leo? What is she doing in here? "

" none of your business, Raph, " Leo replied, trying his best to remain calm. Raph took another step closer.

" Well, it looks like it's our business now! "

In an angry rush, Raph turned to leave, but was caught off guard as Leo jumped from the bed, slamming his brother to the ground. Before anyone knew what was going on, the two brothers were rolling on the floor and exchanging punches. Karai tightened the bed cover around her and leapt off the bed, running to pull Leo from the fight just as Mikey yanked Raph to his feet. Breathing heavily, Leo sunk back down to the bed, Karai still holding him tightly to her chest

" That's enough, Raphael!" She screamed. "You may not like it, but I love Leonardo, and he loves me as well!"

" Leo! Tell me you really don't! " Raphael paused and waited for his brother to respond. When it was not made, Raph continued. " Tell me, Leo, or have you forgotten she is Foot? Not to mention the daughter of our enemy, the Shredder! "

Leo looked away from his brother." I know that Raph. But it still doesn't change how I feel for her."

" So you're willing to dishonor yourself and your family for her? "

Leo jumped to his feet, the anger increasing inside him as he walked closer to Raph. " You're one to talk about honor, hothead! "

" That's enough, both of you! "

Everyone turned to find Master Splinter in the doorway, a sadness crossing over his face. After a few minutes of watching his sons expressions, the old rat allowed Karai, Mikey, and Donnie to leave. Karai gathered her clothes and slowly moved for the door, only to stop next to Leo. She softly placed a fragile hand on his cheek and leaned in closer to him.

" "

" " Leo answered back, his eyes unmoving from his father, but Karai could see the ache inside of his eyes. With that, she left the room, taking one last look at her love before returning to the landing.

Hearing Karai's words echo in his head, Leo felt a great pain in his heart. Dropping down to his knees, Leo bowed low to his master, his face only inches from the floor. This action caused Master Splinter to take a step back, and it saddened him even more as he watched his son. Raph could also not believe what his brother was doing, and it made him remember the only other time he had seen Leo bow to Splinter in the same way.

****Flashback****

CRRRAAAASSSHHHHHH!!!

" Oh, man! We're in trouble! That was Master Splinter's favorite vase! "

A very young Mikey looked down at the shattered pieces around his feet, Donnie and Raph standing beside him, their little three-year-old minds looking for an answer.

" No, duh!" Raph griped."Can we fix it, Donnie? "

" Well, I could try, " Donnie scratched his head. " But it will take a really long time. "

" Of you can just tell Master Splinter what you three did. "

The young turtles jumped and turned to find their eldest brother standing behind them, a look of disappointment on his face. Pushing past his brothers, Leo looked down at the broken vase, but before he could get another word in, Leo heard the sound of their master's walking stick tapping on the concrete floor. Leo quickly pushed his brothers away, telling them to hide from sight. No sooner had they found a place to hide when Splinter came around the corner. The first sight of the vase caused the rat's expression to go from anger to sadness, his eyes full of questions. Without thinking, Leo dropped to the floor and bowed in respect. Splinter noted his actions, then turned his thoughts back to the vase.

" What has happened, Leonardo? "

" I'm sorry, master. It was an accident. I was practicing, and I knocked over the vase. "

The sadness faded from Splinter's face and was replaced by a smile." It is alright, my son. You did not mean to break it. "

Leo lifted his head." Can it be fixed, sensi? "

Splinter pulled Leo to his feet and patted the top of his head." Yes, but I will need some help. Will you like to help me? "

Relieved that Splinter was not mad, Leo nodded and trotted off to his room, grabbing his blanket from his bed. Returning to Splinter, Leo laid the blanket on the floor and placed the shattered pieces on it. When he was done, he carefully picked up the blanket and followed Splinter back to his own room. Once they were gone, the three remaining brothers emerged from their hiding place, shock gripping each one of their faces.

" Did Leo just take the blame for us? " Mikey was the first to ask.

" Oh, yeah. " The other two brothers answered at the same time.

****End Flashback****

Raph never forgot that day, even now as he watched from the shadows as his brother continued to bow before their master. Walking over to his eldest son, Splinter lightly placed his hand on the back on Leo's head, making Leo slowly raise his eyes.

" I have dishonored you, sensi, and....myself. "

" And don't forget Karai too , Leo, " Raph added in a hushed tone.

" Master Splinter, I'm so sorry! " Leo cried out as the rat tried to smile through his sadness.

" Leonardo, it is alright. I know what you did was not meant to happen. "

Raph stomped into the light and growled. " So that's it, master? You're just going to let Leo get away with it? "

" No, Raphael, " Splinter sighed."What has happened, has happened. But Leonardo must atone for his actions."

Pausing for a moment, Splinter turned his attention to the door, and the remaining three below them. "You will go to the Jones family farm. There you will train and meditate for three weeks. At the end of those three weeks, you will pray to the gods for forgiveness."

Leonardo nodded sadly." And what of Karai? "

This question made Splinter frown. " When you return, she will have already returned to the Shredder. She must deal with him herself. "

Leo bolted upright. " But, master...! "

Splinter's raised hand cut Leo's words short, and after a moment, he began to speak again. " Enough, Leonardo! That is my final word. Now go and pack your things. You will leave right away! "

Turning on the balls of his feet, the old rat walked to the door, stopping only to look back one last time. Returning to the task at hand, Master Splinter made his way downstairs, pausing at the bottom of the steps to watch his sons talk with Karai as they sat on the couch. Mikey was the first to notice their master, and he leaped over the back of the sofa to meet up with him.

" Master, is Leo in a lot of trouble? " Mikey asked with sad eyes.

Donnie responded quickly." Mikey, if Master Splinter wants to tell us, he will. "

The old rat made his way to the couch, aware that his sons eyes were watching him. " Karai, you will pack your things and return home at once. "

Standing and bowing to the old rat, Karai quickly walked back up the stairs to Leo's room, silently grabbing her bag and leaving without saying a word to Leo. Moments later, Leo came down, his own bag hooked over his left shoulder.

After sharing a short good-bye with his brothers, Leo headed for the door of the lair, and found Karai standing in his way. She slowly wrapped her arms around him, and Leo felt the warmth of her tears as they hit the top of his head. And for what seemed like forever, Leo held her close to him, holding back the tears in his eyes while his heart pounded in his chest. Finally he released her, and Leo gave Karai one last look before leaving his home.

April's eyes darted from the road to the rear-view mirror, watching Leo as he stared out the window. She opened her mouth, hoping to find some words of comfort, but nothing came out. Beside her in the passenger seat, Casey could sense the uneasiness in the van, so he decided to lighten the mood.

" Oh, uh, one thing, Leo. Watch out for the middle step in the stairs. It's about to fall apart. I never had the chance to fix it yet. "

" Sure. "Leo replied without turning from the window.

Finally feeling brave enough to say something, April once again tried to break the silence, being careful about the words she chose.

" Leo, you know that there is nothing you can do."

Leo sighed." I know. I just wish she could have come with me. "

April offered him a warm smile, but it fell as Casey turned around in his seat and butted in.

" Yo, Leo! So is it true what Donnie told me? About you getting caught in the sack with that pretty ninja lady? "

" Arnold Casey Jones! "

" Don't call me that! " Casey sneered.

April shook her head and frowned." You don't have to answer that, Leo. Casey was only kidding. "

" No I wasn't! " Casey argued." I want to know! "

With that, April lifted her hand and smacked the back of Casey's head. This caused Leo to smile a little. As Casey pouted, April looked in the mirror and saw the smile on Leo's face, which in turn made her happy. For the rest of the trip, Casey and Leo talked aboutÂ the upcoming baseball season, something that April had no interest in.

" You're wrong, dome-head! The Mets got this season cinched! "

Leo shook his head." Where do you get your info, Casey? Their hardest hitter is out for the rest of the year with a torn hamstring! There is no way the Mets will make it to the playoffs! "

Casey made a disgusted face." So you think the Yankees are going to do it better? "

" Of course! "

Feeling a little left out, April decided to share her own input. " Well, I hate to burst your bubble boys, but we all know that the Dodgers are going to go this year. "

" Yeah right! " Casey and Leo said in unison.

Soon the conversation faded, and Leo had once again went back to staring out of the window, studying a small sleepy town as they drove through. Beyond the town, there were many farms, all of which had fields of wheat and corn that stretched on for miles, and it was a bit overwhelming to Leo that the farmers could planted so much, year after year.

The van turned down a gravel road, and when Leo saw the red shingles of the old Jones farmhouse, he felt it was now safe to remove his coat and hat. All the way up the road, Leo studied the house, nothing the age of it by the falling siding on the front. Next to the house sat an even older red barn. Inside the barn was a hayloft and an old 1948 ford truck that had been used in years. Beyond the barn, some 100 yards away, was a large lake, complete with a small fishing dock on the north side.

Leo sighed deeply as he opened the door to the van. Next to him, Leo could hear Casey telling him things to remember to do, and also things to watch out for. Looking around again, Leo spotted a trail that went into the woods, the same trail that Casey and his cousin used to ride bikes through as kids. As he turned away, Leo swore he saw a patch of black hair hidden among the moving bushes. He immediately dismissed the thought, shaking his head to clear his mind.

' Stop thinking about her, you idiot! ' He thought to himself.

Returning back to Casey, Leo suddenly realized he had not heard one word Casey had said to him.

" Got it, bro? " Casey asked.

Leo rubbed his forehead." Yeah, Case. Don't worry. I'll be fine. "

April smiled and gave Leo a hug, the turned to Casey. " Alright. SO, are you ready Mister Jones? "

" Yep. Are you, Mrs. Jones? "

" Sure am! "

After saying their good byes, Leo watched as April and Casey returned to the van and sped down the long drive. Once they were gone, Leo decided to give the bushes at the edge of the woods a closer inspection. With great stealth, Leo approached the bush, only to see it move once again. Slowly Leo reached down into the shrub, his hand coming into contact with something that felt like a shoulder. Before he could search more, a hand wrapped around his wrist and propelled him through the air and sending him on his shell. Feeling something sharp against his throat, Leo adjusted his sight to see his captor, and he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw his love holding a tanto to his throat.

" Karako! " Leo cried out." What are you doing here? "

Relieved it was Leo, Karai calmed herself. " looking for you, le-chan. Are you alone? "

Leo nodded. " Yes. Please, karako...your tanto. "

Karai looked at the knife, then pulled it back. " Sorry, le-chan. "

She helped Leo up from the ground and they walked back to the farmhouse. Once inside, Karai decided to cook a dinner for the two of them. As she worked in the kitchen, Leo set the table, completing the setting with two red candles, and Leo lit them before leaving the dining room.

Entering the dining room, Karai was amazed by the romantic setting. She could feel her face blush as she placed the main dish on the hot plate. As Karai returned to the kitchen, Leo emerged from the wine cellar, two glasses and a bottle of vintage wine in his hands. He placed the glasses on the table next to the plates and filled them up. He leaves again, only to reappear moments later to find Karai already seated.

" Sorry, " Leo apologized." I had to do something. "

" And what might that be, le-chan? "

Leo tipped his glass to her." You'll have to wait and see. "

Karai couldn't help but smile at the comment. the rest of their dinner was quiet. Karai watched in amazement as Leo ate with his silverware, something she had never really see him to before. After dinner, Leo helped Karai take the dishes into the kitchen and helped her wash them. Feeling a little mischievous, Karai grabbed a handful of bubbles and blew them at Leo. Grinning at her actions, Leo also grabbed some bubbles and blew them at her, the bubbles landing on her chest. Their fight went on for a few minutes before they decided to call it a draw.

Once the dishes were complete, Leo untied his bandanna from his face and placed it over Karai's eyes, then led her up the stairs, stopping to grab a candle from the table to lit their way. Once inside the dark upstairs bedroom, Leo untied Karai's blindfold, and she looked around in amazement. The room was full of candles of every sort, and the bed was covered with rose petals, the fragrance of the flower drenching the air. Slowly Leo took Karai's hand and led her to the bed.

" I wanted this night to be special. "

" It already is, le-chan. "

No other words were said as Leo and Karai fell into a deep kiss, their love for each other overwhelming them both. Leo's hands once again roamed over her body as he deepened his kiss, filling her with great pleasure with his slow movements.Before long, their bodies untied, twisting and turning on the bed, their love making more fiery and intense than ever before.there crys of passion ringing out threw the house as the intensity grew between them.untill both fell back to the bed spent and tired, Leo turned on his back, wiping the sweat from his brow and trying to regain his breath. He pulled Karai close to him and pulled the covers over their naked bodies. He kissed his beautiful mate on the forehead and looked longingly into her eyes.

" I love you, karako. "

Karai smiled back at him. " I love you too, le-chan. "

Leo paused for a second, then caressed Karai's cheek." Marry me, Karai. "

These words made Karai sit up, propping her body up on one arm. She felt tears escaping down her face, her eyes full of mixed emotions. Leo pulled her close to him, refusing to let her go.

" Karako, I love you so much. I could never live another day without you. Will you please do me the honor of becoming my wife? "

Karai pulled back and nodded." Yes, le-chan. I love you so much also. I will marry you. "

Leo smiled and brought his lips back to hers. They settled back in the bed and soon fell into a sweet and sound sleep, both of them wearing a smile on their faces.
