Into the small, lead lined titanium mug cerulean blue eyes gazed staring deeply as if through the coffee in her cup completely so zoned out she hadn’t heard the sound of heels that entered the room. Then, a hand was on her shoulder and the mug in her grasp she nearly threw as she spun around on alert only to be met with wide green eyes and arms up and away from their body causing Kara’s nerves to tense even more. With both the startles over the blonde set the mug down on the table and watched as her best friend walked closer to pour herself a cup.
“Lena….” How was she even going to begin to explain it all? How their entire friendship she’d been harboring this secret and it killed her everyday she had had to. But now?
“I told you Kara, I get it.” Lena spoke calmly mixing creamer and sugar into the cup grabbing a stir stick. “What, you want me to admit I was pissed? Cause I was….”
“Lena..” Kara tried again but the Luthor shook her head still with her gaze away from the blonde.
“I mean...in the elevator..what I said about Supergirl….I think maybe I was in this mind set of selective vision or hearing or something because MY best friend, someone I consider a sister would never keep such a secret right?” Lena didn’t know where the shift in her attitude was coming from but it was far too late to stop its course. “I mean, after all….I was making something poisonous to you..” Before the Luthor could fathom what was happening the coffee in her hand was tossed in the trash and she was in a set of powerful arms and the force of the rush the wind the speed was hitting her and all she could do was shut her eyes coiling in against the Supers’ frame.
“You want to know??” Kara asked, with trembles etched in her words as suddenly they were before a room she hadn’t seen before. “I’ll show you…” Lena looked up at the blonde as she watched Kara put her hand on a reader at the wall as it detected her handprint. Then the blonde looked up at the ceiling shut her eyes taking a deep breath. “Bring up the last feeds of my pod, the last day of Krypton!” Lena was about to ask but then the lights in the room dimmed as Kara pointed to the center of the glass dome. Steadying herself she stepped in and felt her eyes widen at what she saw.
Lena watched as a young girl was put into a pod, told to look after her cousin and explained about the Earth’s yellow sun that she would have extraordinary powers and do amazing things. She watched as the young girl sobbed and fought to stay with her mother and then the pod was shut and powered up to shoot out of the passage. Then the fires, the destruction, the city in molten fury of pure destruction. Then the ship the pod hit and it spinning out of the trajectory it was meant for falling into darkness and then….dead silence. Lena felt the tears raking down the sides of her face and she heard the whimpers behind her knowing whom they belonged to.
“He...was just a baby…” She heard Kara start as the sniffles were heard as well. “I was supposed to watch over him, teach him. But…the explosion knocked my pod off course..I was sent into an area we knew as….the Phantom Zone..” Lena turned slowly as Kara approached with tears draped down her face as well and the pain in her blue eyes was unlike nothing else she’d ever scene. “Time….doesn’t move, doesn’t pass….and all you are left with...is the ghosts of your nightmares...your last memories. For over two….decades….for…..twenty four years…..I was trapped there..” Lena was calculating in her head gasping then shaking that away refocusing as a thought came to her.
“The elevator…” Kara nodded at her friend’s realization.
“I….had trouble...still do..with claustrophobia as you call it. I had it alot when I was younger. Alex was the one to help me through it.” Lena hadn’t even realized how quickly she had moved and then she was wrapping Kara in the tightest hug she could and she could feel her friend’s body shaking slightly then cave into her grasp. Whimpers ripped from the blonde’s throat as sobs were heard and finally brutal trembles of gut wrenching pain. “I...can’t lose my sister Lee…” Lena slowly brought them both to the floor sitting against the wall holding the Super as she broke completely down. Running fingers into Kara’s long blonde loches she just held on and let her let out all her agony.
“It’s gonna be okay Kara….we will get her back..I promise you…” Then before she could say anymore a door flung open and Sam came running in with her suit still on. “Sam?”
“She’s ready.” Sam announced then rushed over upon hearing the sobbing from the blonde in Lena’s lap and as Kara lifted her head and the other Kryptonian saw the pain all over the woman’s face she too reached out to hug her friend. “I’m here too Kar…”
“I know.” Kara wiped her eyes quickly nodding. “Let’s go save my sister..”
As another dart was fired into a target board hanging on the dark purple painted wall her wicked chuckle brought his smoked silver blue eyes peering over gazing down all her rather stunning nude body licking his lips.
“Better focus on your aim my Prince….or I’ll have you once more.” Evelyn practically purred sipping a drink from his tumbler he’d left beside their sets of darts, his streaked in greens hers in blues yet both made of lighter titanium.
“My aim seemed to be just fine for you last night sweet Eve..” Damien smirked as he fired a perfect center shot turning his head to her and taking the glass from her grasp.
“How about….your aim at our prize?” Evelyn inquired noticing the change to his demeanor as she reached for one of her darts and lined herself up standing in stride hauling her arm back to release the shot huffing as it landed just short of the bullseye. “Dammit..”
“She….disappeared..” He grunted. His Priestess turned to him with eyes of shock.
“What?? How?”
“Perhaps….they realized we were onto them since our camera feeds were cut off inside their house..”
“So?” Evelyn felt her body thrown back against the wall beside the board as her wrists were suddenly pinned above her head and easily she relaxed her tension purring for her Prince. “Mmmm Damien..”
“Her marking of ours is not gone….patience Evelyn..” He growled as he released her wrists and she jumped up wrapping her legs around his also bare body pleased as her pleasure dribbled down the length of his hunger that hardened for her desire. They lunged in fastening their lips over the other’s craving all of the rich wanton ache to feast once more. As Damien turned to carry Evelyn to the master bed the beautifully crafted black leather weaved collar and stone of dark red carved with a ‘Cobraias emblem in the center fell from his grasp dropping to the stained wooden floor.
First, he’d sate his hunger of his Priestess. Then….he’d have the sweet ripe treat of their precious DEO..
Lena had just finished up attaching the last of the cords to the Director and to the machines her friend had set up stopping to watch the patches put on the sides of Alex’s head where the temples were and then around the forehead and one specific at the center. Finally, the last placed at the front of the neck exactly where the symbol was still visible but nowhere nears as dark as it had been luckily.
“What are those?” Sam asked curious as both she and Kara stood back trying to stay out of the way of both women and all the equipment.
“They are ways for us to keep measures on things, readings on her frontal lobe and other areas of her brain. If any of the areas on this mapping of her brain…” Mara pointed as both Kryptonians looked over nodding, “Happen to light up like the fourth of July well….that’s when we know just how close we are to getting her conscious again. Right now, the colors are dimmer which is both a good and bad thing. Good, because they aren’t purple..which is probably what they would have been before. Bad, because they aren’t blue or lighter colors which would indicate normal response. Right now they are a darker blue. The colors you have to worry about is red or purple..which means she’s being drowned in a way..sent deeper into what is causing this is going for. However, if you see bright red or orange it can be the starts of seizures or a state of shock. We don’t want that either.”
“So...a nice blue or lighter blue is good?” Kara was trying to keep up but even the explanation was kinda getting lost to her. Mara nodded. “Okay….but how are YOU getting to…” All three women watched as the expert unzipped what appeared to be a black computer case only to pull out a piece of thick clear glass with two black handles mounted on either side. “What is…” But the woman paid no heed as she picked up her phone from the desk by the exam chair dialing a number.
“Mara?” Lena asked but the woman put her hand up and smiled.
“Paul...it’s me. Hey listen...I’m sending you a link through my laptop right now. I have a friend here that...I need to use Reverie…” Mara heard the warnings in his voice, the concern and the bigger concern of her announcing what she had outside of the building. “Look Hammond...I know what I’m doing. I’m going to need to be set up within the next ten mins and I don’t need your uncomfortable ass chair to get settled..thanks Paul. I’ll click the link when I’m ready. Just send me a message when you are.” As the woman hung up she turned to all eyes on her then including the doctor’s behind them. “Perhaps I can spend the next few minutes explaining everything…”
As her head came up from under the water gasping with oxygen intake filling her lungs her breathing was still heavy and ragged and her trembling hands and arms clung to the rocks at the cove. Putting her head against them and the damp green terrain she allowed the calm sounds of the rainforest including the roar of the falls lull her into a soothed state. Slowly she slipped eyelids up and her barely brown hues still littered in shades of dark blood reds remained unsteady and fogged. Her strength was diminished, her will hanging on by a thread...she knew how weak she’d grown and her mind hummed with uncaring thoughts and dangling sanity of what ifs, if she let go and fell would it be her end?
Alex didn’t have the strength to keep her eyes open anymore as her lids fell once again leaving her in blackness even as her body clung to remain from sinking back under.
The last thought that slipped out, was she hoped her sister was okay..
“So...let me get this straight..you are gonna….go into my sister’s subconsciousness?” Kara asked, with a little more understanding but not much. Though honestly, she came from a world of rather advanced technology so she shouldn’t be surprised. The blonde watched the brunette nod as she reached for this rather thick piece of glass by one of the handles only to type out something on computer screen of her laptop then flop back in the reclining chair a couple agents had brought in for their guest. “What are...you doing?” It was Lena whom stepped closer just as Mara got settled and held the glass up with both hands as it suddenly came to life. The Luthor gasped taking a step back just as the woman turned to meet Lena’s eyes then the doctor’s then to Sam’s and finally to Kara’s.
“Whatever it takes...I’ll bring her home..” Mara told them then faced the tablet took a deep breath and mouthed, “Apertus..” Upon the screen of the glass was what appeared to be a mandala and then the woman holding the handles tightly dropped from normal consciousness as colors of mandalas filled the screen along with readings of her own vitals. Lena looked from the unconscious Director to Miss Kint breathing in deeply to release it shivering.
“Good luck Mar…”
