Chapter 3
Day 2:
He wasn’t quite sure how long he’d been locked up alone before he started to get antsy. Probably not very long, moments seemed longer to him because of his powers. His mind tended to race. He sat in the uncomfortable chair, wrists and ankles feeling as though he’s received a bad sunburn, and his head throbbing. At least his vision had cleared up. He waited and waited, growing very impatient. He wondered if they’d forgotten him. Surely not. He wasn’t that unimportant. Once he thought he’s heard some sort of commotion, but it died down quickly and he was left in silence once again. For a while he tried yelling. He really didn’t want to deal with the villains, but there was nothing he hated more than being alone and unable to occupy his racing mind.
“HEY! SOMEONE! IS THERE ANYONE ALIVE OUT THERE!? HEY!...HEEEEEYYYY!!!!!! I’M HUNGRY!!” No one answered, so Flash contented himself with singing songs as obnoxiously as he could while he waited. Maybe he could goad someone into paying attention to him.
“IF I GO CRAZY THEN WILL YOU STILL CALL ME SUPERMAN?? IF I’M ALI—“Flash stopped singing abruptly as the door opened at last and Luthor entered, followed by Toyman, Tala, Bizzaro, and Killer Frost.
“What?” Flash asked, defiantly. Tala hid a smile and Killer Frost looked amused.
“Sorry about that, we had… unexpected visitors.” Luthor said, not sounding sorry at all and walking over to Flash. The others followed. “I assume you’ve had enough time to think about your situation?”
Flash grumbled unhappily.
“You’ll be happy to know that the League has just failed their first rescue attempt.” he smirked. “We’re moving around with some wonderful technology from our new allies. It will be difficult to find us now that we’ve started bouncing from place to place through boom tubes.
Flash’s heart fell slightly. Hopes of a quick rescue died. This was going to be a painful situation. He closed his eyes and sighed. May as well figure out what Luthor’s plan was while he was trapped here.
“What do you want anyway?” he demanded, glaring up at his captors.
“Several things.” Luthor said smiling. “You are a very nice bargaining chip, your powers can be very useful, and you being here means that you are not on Earth causing problems with the rest of the Justice League.”
“The project you mentioned?”
Luthor laughed. “Do you think that I would tell you what my plans are? No. I simply need you to provide me with a few… favors.”
“Like…”
“Well, your ability to vibrate your atoms for one. And your super speed would be very helpful in certain missions—”
“You mean crimes.” Flash said flatly, glaring at them.
“If you want to use that term then, yes.” Luthor smiled down at him.
Flash’s eyes narrowed. “You don’t really want me for that. I’m sure there is some bad guy or other that can do that. Why do you really want me?”
Lex smiled. “Again you prove you might not be as dumb as you appear. Alright then. I intend to use you to take down Superman.
Flash’s eyes widened. And then he smirked. “HAH. They aren’t going to fall for that again. We already saw what happened in that other dimension. The League wouldn’t let that happen here. And I’m certainly not going to help you with anything.”
Luthor sighed in resignation. “I guess we’ll just have to do this the hard way then.” He turned to the others, “Take him to the Playroom, and make sure he’s comfortable.”
******
Luthor’s idea of comfortable was having Bizzaro drag Flash, still bound in the chair, through several hallways past many laughing criminals and into a sort of dungeon-like room. As they moved through the building, Flash was able to look out of the windows. The outside was distorted and stretched, he was certainly not in his own dimension.
The chair he was bound to had been unhooked so that he could be moved to another part of the ship. He vibrated his atoms, and though it broke the burned skin beneath the metal cuffs he managed to free himself from them. He took quick stock of the situation Bizzaro was slow and stupid, and Flash easily slipped from his grip and ran as fast as he could down the dim hallway.
Luthor smirked, and glanced a Tala. The sorceress murmured a spell and a few moments later Flash zoomed past them from the other end of the hall. Still running as fast as he could, he past them half a dozen times before he pulled to a stop and looked around the hallway in frustration.
“By all means,” Luthor interjected. “Continue to wear yourself out. It will serve only to help me.”
Flash glared at him and turned to start running again, but his legs were stuck. He looked down and saw that Tala’s magic was holding him in place. He glared at Luthor and Tala, and tried to vibrate his way out of the grip she had on him. Vibrating his atoms took a lot of concentration and he didn’t noticed when Bizzaro came up behind him and hit him hard on the back of the neck. The last thing he saw before he blacked out was the smirk on Luthor’s smug face.
Bizzaro then proceeded to drag the Flash’s unconscious body through another hallway until they stopped finally and entered a large room full of machines and what looked like medical supplies. They bound Flash to the same device that Gorilla Grodd had been held in when he’d been there last. Toyman walked over to the controls.
“You’ll love this.” He said in his creepy calm voice to Luthor. “We made some changes since Grodd. I designed them myself, just for our new toy.” He pushed a button, there was a moments pause while the electricity made the young hero’s unconscious body jerk and twist, and then Flash screamed and writhed in agony as bolts of electricity tore at his body, yanking him back to consciousness. This went on just long enough that Luthor almost began feeling it was too much.
“AAAH!” Flash screamed, writhing. Then he went limp as the shocks stopped as suddenly as they had begun.
“This can all stop, anytime” Killer Frost said lazily, leaning against a wall. “All you have to do is agree to help us out.”
“Fuck you” Flash said, panting.
“No. It wouldn’t be any fun if he just gave in after that.” Toyman said, turning the power back on. Flash’s screams resumed.
Luthor nodded in approval, and turned. “I’ll leave him to you then, for now.”
“This new game will be really fun.”
“What game?” Bizzaro asked scratching his head comically.
Toyman chuckled and upped the power. “Break the Flash.”

“That’s it! We’ve found him again!” Aztec yelled. Dr. Fate and J’onn collapsed into chairs as Batman came running from wherever he’d been seconds before. “We found traces of him in another unnamed dimension. It feels like zero space.”
“When’s the soonest we can get there?” Batman demanded anxiously. It had taken them two days just to get a lock on Flash in between random bouts of fighting they had to deal with and clean up from the battles. Now they were on day three, and not much closer to rescuing the speedster. The original members had finally all returned, with the exception of Superman and Wonder Woman, and everyone was worried about their hyperactive ally. Shayera was beside herself with anger and was on a short fuse. Green Lantern hadn’t moved from his chair in hours, his face grave. Vixen hovered trying to comfort him and Shayera. The Thanagarian considered Flash to be her little brother of sorts, and Green Lantern was his best friend. Batman had been more livid than anyone had ever seen him.
Ever.
He hovered over Aztec, Dr. Fate, and J’onn harrying them to hurry and do what he could. No one could ever remember Batman being more agitated and restless.
“We have spent a lot of energy seeking him out.” Fate informed Batman, sounding just as tired as the other two looked. “We have to connect a boom tube to the dimension, so it’ll be another day at least.”
“That’ll be four days! We haven’t heard anything, our rescue attempt was a failure. We don’t even know if Flash is--“
“Flash is alive.” J’onn said, rising and heading to a door that lead to a private room. “Batman, may I speak with you alone?” Batman’s eyes narrowed, but he followed the Martian.
“What is it?” he demanded when they were alone.
“When we found Flash, I was able to mentally connect with him for a moment in order to ensure that he was alive and well.”
“And?”
“I found that he was indeed alive, however… his psychological state suggests that he is enduring a large amount of stress and pain. I was not able to see what was happening to him, but I was able to read some of his thoughts. I am certain that Luthor is behind this and from what I got from Flash, I believe that he has recreated the Legion of Doom.” Batman remained silent, but his eyes were narrowed and his fists were clenched.
“Alright.” He said finally. “Start working on that boom tube, I’ll tell the others and assemble a few teams to deal with the Legion. Several villains have gone missing in the past month…” he turned for the door. A green arm grabbed his own.
“Batman. Maybe you shouldn’t go after Flash. You are too emotionally involved, I feel you may be too irrational when it comes to Flash’s safety.” The Dark Knight spun on his heel and glared daggers at J’onn.
“There is no way in hell that I’m not going to go after Wally.” He said angrily, pulling out of J’onn’s grip. “There is no reason for me to be irrational when it comes to Flash.” He said, softer than before, but still angry.
“But you are.”
“It shouldn’t be any different than the others.”
“But it is, and you know it. He keeps us together. He is the heart.”
Batman’s anger faded replaced by exhaustion. He slumped down in one of the desk chairs, his head in his hands. “I don’t know why I’m like this.” He admitted to the floor.
J’onn took a seat next to him. “Flash has been in bad situations before. He’s always come through.”
“Yeah, but Luthor was the one who killed Flash in that other dimension, and he knows that it made Superman go crazy. It made all of us go crazy. What if he plan’s to do the same now? I’m worried that everything will fall apart, what if what happened in that dimension happens—“
J’onn cut him off. “I do not believe that will happen here, our numbers are greater and far less familiar with Flash than we were. Nor do I believe any of us would allow such a thing to happen after witnessing the aftermath for ourselves.”
Batman grunted. “I still don’t like to think what will happen to the league if we lose him.”
“We won’t let that happen.” The Martian replied, assuredly. He stood and left the room.
The door shut behind J’onn, leaving Batman staring at the spot the Martian had just stood. He slammed his fist against a table, his anger back. He took a moment to collect himself. He got to his feet and slinked out after the Martian.
