Chapter 3
It had been two months since their chance meeting and ever since Mikey hadn’t been able to get her out of his head. It had only taken an hour or so of constant nagging to get the sentry to tell him where he might find her again, and he had then spent a week stalking her all over the sky line in hopes of making friends.
Eventually she had given in, mostly for the snacks he brought her she had told him teasingly. Now he went out to see her ever night if he could, once you managed to get passed the cold super heroine exterior she was the funniest person you’d ever meet.
They talked mostly, swapped stories and occasionally mocked the fashion sense of passers by on the street bellow. He never mentioned her to his brothers, which was hard especially when it came to Raph. They told each other pretty much everything which usually included stupid crushes and wild rescue attempts but somehow he could never seem to bring himself to tell his brother, he was superstitious about it, like telling his feelings aloud would ensure that they never came true.

“So then” She said between chuckles “He busts into the room superman style hands on hips and says...”
It was one of her Silver Sentry stories, he had been surprised to learn that she and the double S went way back. She had a less than veiled opinion of the press and heroes she dubbed glory hounds so there were no comic books or bright bold news lines singing her praises, Mike liked to think of her as his own little secret.
He laughed at the punch line to her story and brushed a stray bandana tail back over his shoulder, he hadn’t bothered to keep up the Turtle Titan persona. She on the other hand kept firmly to her costume, granted the pieces changed, all leather but different colors and styles, her black mask however always remained the same.
He supposed it must have been expensive, one way lenses dropped from seemingly no where and on more than one occasion he had seen them glow a tell tale night vision green. She finished her story and took a sip from the latte he had brought her, he knew the question was pointless but he had made a point of asking something like it at least every other day.
“Walk you home?” He asked smiling in response to the instant scowl that crossed her features.
“How many times do we have to have this conversation Mike?”
The conversation she was referring to was the one in which he asked for her name, or where she lived, or once and only once to take her mask off. Each question brought a scowl and a harshly worded warning about the importance of secrecy and the danger it would place them both in.
“Depends” He smirked “How many times will take for you to give in?”
He had hoped for a laugh but instead she set her cup aside and got to her feet.
“I should go” She said over her shoulder as she walked across the roof top. He scurried up after her cursing his own stupidity for chasing her off, despite his crush he really just wanted to be friends.
“Wait up” He called after her “You don’t have to go running off its barely midnight”
She sighed “You just have to learn to deal with it” She said turning to face him.
“You don’t know who the Sentry is and I don’t see you following him around with questions” She continued, and that comment struck a thought in Mikey’s head.
“Does he know who you are?” He questioned seriously as he watched her face tense, he knew the answer before she even voiced it.
“That’s different” She said tensely “He knows my secrets and I know his.... that’s just the way its always been”
“I’ll tell you my secrets” He said plainly “What do you wanna know?”
She sighed again, he didn’t get it. She had enough secrets to guard, enough things to worry over and keep safe , she just didn’t have room for anymore.
“Mike..” She began but he read her tone and cut her off.
“Fine, don’t tell me” He said in a deflated tone and this time it was him that turned to leave “I just though..... you know.... we could be friends”
The last word made her chest ache a little, it was lonely life she had chosen. She had no real friends just people that knew her with the mask or without it, with the exception of a few people like the Sentry. It was nothing personal against the turtle but a wise crusader had once told her no man can ever truly know another and the phrase had stuck.
“I should go” He said mimicking her words. She watched him go as far as the ledge debating him over, he was trustworthy but far too trusting, he was fun but too careless, he could take care of himself but she could most defiantly take him.
She couldn’t help but form a faint smile as she recalled how persistently he had followed her and had slowly but surely worn down her resolve, she was glad he had he was light hearted and loyal..... and she realized with slight surprise he was also the closet thing she had to a real friend.
“Mike”She called after him “If your coming you better be able to keep up” She finished with her trademark smirk which broke into a laugh at the sight of the mega watt smile the comment had earned her.

All smart talk aside she knew very well he couldn’t keep up with her so the trek had taken her long than normal but all for all she couldn’t complain. She landed nimbly on the roof of the tallest building in the immediate area.
“This is as far as you go” She said to Mike as he landed behind her.
“You live here?” He questioned peering around “Swanky”
“Not here exactly” She said, earning trust was a slow process “But near here”
She expected him to be disappointed or ask when he could know exactly where she lived but instead he just smiled “ See that wasn’t so bad now was it”
“Whatever turtle” She chuckled leaping up onto the ledge “Just don’t start thinking this means you can stop bringing food” She said before jumping off and out into the night.
