When Shayera opened sleepy eyes, she had wondered if last had been a dream and nothing more. But arms were wrapped about the lower section of her waist and she could hear the deeper breathing coming below her.
" Diana?" She called to her softly, her voice still chocked with sleep. Diana only response was a low moan. Shayera lifted her head and eased the upper part of her body a little ways. She could smell the humidity from the rain but was thankful it had stopped. She glanced at the opening of the cave, watching the purplish looking sun spread it's rays all about Tyrainia. And since they were perched rather high up, she gazed down at the tree tops and near by waterfalls. Noting the position of the sun, it was around late afternoon. Diana was right. That stuff did knock me out for a long time. Well at least the pain's more tolerable and I can flex my shoulders without passing out.
" What are you looking at...?" Came the groggy question. Shayera smiled, craning her neck back around to peer down at her soul mate.
" Nothing much. I'm just admiring the beauty of this planet." Diana grinned lazily, her hands moving down to cup Shayera's butt cheeks.
" Oh really? Mind telling me what makes it so beautiful?" Shayera kept her arms about Diana's neck as she lowered her body back down.
" Well for starters. It has the most breath taking baby blue eyes I've ever seen." Diana laughed softly.
" And the silky mane of raven hair is very fascinating to me. And the body of the planet... it's very soft and fluffy." Diana's lazy grin returned.
" Fluffy huh?"
" Yes, fluffy." She remarked lightly, nuzzling the side of Diana's face tenderly. Diana nuzzled her back, sighing happily.
" You seem better today." She murmured, still half asleep. Shayera nodded, starting a trail of kisses from the middle of Diana's chest to her mouth. Once she made contact with her lips, she didn't hesitate to deepen.
" I feel better too." She replied after breaking the kiss much later on. Diana nipped her lover's lower lip and moved to cover her mouth with hers. Shayera giggled, feeling Diana's tongue explore her mouth, then massage her tongue against hers.
" That's good to know." Diana stretched underneath her lover, utterly content and at peace with herself.
" You up for some breakfast? Tyrainian style?" Shayera nodded.
" All right. But not yet..." Diana exhaled.
" I'm still tired. Give me ten more minutes, okay?" Shayera nestled back into the nape of her soul mate's neck.
" Sure thing. I'll do more than that when I get all my strength back. Count on it, princess." Diana chuckled, closing her eyes.
" Heal Hawkgirl. Heal." Shayera chuckled this time around.
" As you wish, princess." When Diana did come back around, it was just a little later in the afternoon. She felt a draft and slowly realized Shayera was not on her. Alarmed at where she might of gone, she sat up and called out for her.
" Over here." Diana glanced to the west side of the cave and saw a site to die for. Shayera was completely naked. No undergarments whatsoever. And the aid wrap was gone, sprawled out all over the floor. Her wounds were visible now. There were at least ten to fourteen stitches on the side of her torso, and until she turned around. Diana could only estimate how much was on the back. Or if there were even stitches at all.
" I was hoping when you woke up, we could find a water hole. I really need to wash off." Diana ran a hand through her hair, inhaling some air.
" Um, yeah. Sure. I know a place. Give me a minute to get dressed and I'll fly us there."
" Must you dress? I was kind of hoping you'd help me... seeing how I can hardly twist my entire limbs without hurting myself." Diana got to her feet.
" Oh. Well then... um... all right." She glanced about the cave, wondering if they should remain in this one or move to another one. But she could always worry about that later. Diana strode over to Shayera and opened her arms.
" Come on. I'll take you to a water hole." Diana smiled loving at her soul mate once she was in a comfortable position. Her arms were wrapped around her neck, and her chest pressed inwardly in against hers.
" I'm not hurting you anywhere, am I?" Diana asked in a soft voice, walking towards the entrance of the cave. Shayera shook her head, cuddling up and under Diana's chin.
" If you did, I scarcely noticed." Diana shot out of the cave and flew for a bit, going past countless tree tops it seemed. But then, they came to a medium sized opening that took Shayera's breath away. There, down in the low cut valley of grass, was a water hole, but with one massive waterfall and look in cave right behind it.
" Oh Diana... it's perfect." Diana grinned slightly, seeming to forget about everything that distracted her from Shayera. Diana landed them gently on the grassy surface, but did not let Shayera go at first. With her still in her arms, she walked them both into the cold, crispy water. Diana flinched at first, but adjusted to the temperature quickly. Once in the shallow part of the water hole, she set Shayera down. Shayera took a few slow steps, around, staying close by her soul mate, trying to decide what to do first. Then for no good reason, or without warning, she shoved Diana into deepest part of the water. Diana surfaced, tossing her hair behind her. She simply glared at Shayera, her eyes narrowing.
" What in name of Zeus, was that for?" She asked, swimming back up to where soul mate stood. Shayera giggled, shrugging her shoulders.
" Just felt like doing it." Diana rolled her eyes, shifting around in the water.
" That's not fair. You know I can't shove you back."
" Why can't you?" Diana glanced back around with a small frown.
" Don't play dumb with me." Shayera carefully walked into the water, glad Diana swam over to her and took her by the waist with one arm gently, minding her torso. This way, she could slide her arms around her neck and let Diana do all the work. Diana moved them to a shallow area of the water hole, next by the powerful flowing water fall. There, she let Shayera go, watching her with a keen eye.
" Do you think you could wash my back?" Diana swallowed.
" Your... your back?" Shayera smiled, turning around so her back was to Diana.
" Don't be afraid to look at it, Diana." Diana was in freezing cold water, yet she broke into a sweat.
" All right." Diana crept closer to the exposed back. Upon seeing the bright, red, scarred tissue, she held back the urge to groan aloud. It really wasn't all that bad, but it looked very painful. She could see the muscle, and the exact spots where the ninja assassin cut the roots. With a inward sigh, she cupped her hands together, lowered them into the water and brought them back up. She saw her soul mate flinch as she poured the water about her back.
" I'm sorry..." She mumbled, dropping her hands again. Shayera shook her head, telling her to keep going. Diana repeated the process, trying very hard not to wince herself when her soul mate did.
" Should I stop?" Shayera bit her lower lip to keep from screaming.
" Has all the nasty puss and blood been washed out?" Diana exhaled , a small frown forming on the beautiful face.
" Not all of it. There's a little more, but to get it I'm going to have to pull it off... do you want me to?" Shayera took a deep breath and without hesitation, replied,
" Do it." Diana proceeded quickly, knowing it would be painful. With each hand, she used her thumbs and forefingers to pinch a thick pieces of infected tissue. She yanked it off with no real effort, but Shayera's knees caved in as she let out a agonized groan. Diana caught her by the waist and pulled flush back into her chest.
" I'm sorry. That must of hurt." Shayera let out a strained chuckled.
" I'll still alive, aren't I?" Diana rested her shin on her soul mate's shoulder, nuzzling her cheek tenderly.
" If you're done here, I'll take you back to the cave so you can rest up some more."
" And what will you be doing?"
" I'm going to go get that breakfast I promised." After a bit more splashing in the water and taking a wash down herself, Diana took Shayera back into her arms and flew back to the cave, letting the humidity dry her wet body. Once in the safety of the cave, Shayera was laid on her blanket close to the faintly burning fire that Diana planned on re-lightning once she got back.
" Now," She sighed, after slipping on her last golden silver wrist bracelet.
" You stay here and don't move around more than you need to. If you need anything, just call. I should be close by so that I'll be able to hear you." Shayera smiled up at her protector.
" Okay." Diana turned to go, but was held back by a hand. She didn't complain as she was pulled down for a kiss that lasted longer then needed.
" I'll be right back." Diana murmured against Shayera's lips before pulling back and shooting out of the cave. Shayera smiled after her, nestling down on her blanket. There she closed her eyes and let her dreams take over.
Diana had to stop and think about how they would live on the planet for a moment. They had plenty of shelter and things to provide for a shelter. They also had access to pure, refreshing water. Food wasn't a problem either. The planet had sweet, plump fruits. It had strange looking fish in the streams, but Diana had eaten them before and they were delicious. So after thinking things over, and estimating how much time if would take for Shayera to heal, she figured she'd need a good stock of food for about two months. Three tops.
" Well, I guess I'll start finding materials for our bed. I can't have her sleeping on that floor all this time." Diana flew about the grassy valleys until she spotted what she wanted. Along a stream, was long, golden limb. All about the golden limb, were medium sized feathers. These plants were known as the, "Locus Fire". She picked a good portion, then set them down in a pile while she pulled off some big palm leaves a little feet away from the Locus Fire plants. Once she had all the materials she needed, she gathered them all up in her arms and flew to her ship, which was right below the cave. She dropped them off there, dusted herself off, then flew off to another section on the planet where the sweetest, juiciest fruits sprouted. Diana landed by a long, thick hairy tree that grew red, black spotted pear shaped fruits. She reached up, tore one off and lowered it down to eye level.
" Oh I'm in luck. They're ripe." She got about seven of them, then walked a while until she came to a bush that displayed round black berries. She plucked a bushel, then decided to head back with what she had gathered. But she was far from begin done with her floor hunt. When she entered the cave, she was happy to see her soul mate sleeping soundly on the wool blanket, still clothe less. Instead of waking her, Diana let her sleep while prepared the cave, and the food they would eat. First, she laid out the food she collected by the bag that contained Shayera's medicine, then she left the cave to go retrieve the Locus Fire plants and palm leaves. She brought them into the cave and set them a few yards away from the fire in the middle of the cave.
" Okay let's see... I can make the bed and put it here, then I can store the food over there..." Diana calculated how much food and space she had and got busy again.
" All right. I'm going to need something to store those feathers in... what can I use for that?" She paced around for while, being extra quiet with her foot steps.
" Hmm..." She hummed, stopping suddenly.
" I could find some kind of-"
" What are you mumbling about?" Diana glanced over her shoulder and down at her soul mate with a soft smile.
" Oh. Nothing really. Just tying to figure how to make a bed for us." Diana moved over to Shayera and knelt down by her and reached out to cup her cheek with a hand. Shayera leaned into her touch, sighing deeply.
" I got some food for you. It's over there." Shayera followed Diana's gaze.
" What... are they?"
" Fruit. The best in the whole galaxy in my opinion. Here, try one." Diana stood to go over and retrieve one. She tossed it down at Shayera who caught it with a hand.
" Really. They're good. Bite into the middle. That's where it's sweet." Shayera eyed the fruit with a cautious gleam in her eyes.
" Go on." Diana insisted, clasping her hands behind her back with a small smile. Shayera moved her mouth to the middle and took a small bite at first. When the juice hit her taste buds, her eyes widened with delight.
" Hey... this is good." Diana chuckled.
" This is only to hold you until I get things fixed up around here. Wait until I get you the fish. The fish is mind blowing."
" I'll hold your word to that, princess." Shayera replied, taking another bite. Only it was bigger this time. While Shayera munched on the fruit, Diana flew in and out, bringing back more fruit, or wood for the fire. Shayera watched in silence as her soul mate made the cave appear more like a home. She found bamboo sticks and with the stems of the palm leaves, she connected them and made small furniture. Such as, chairs, and a bed frame and some benches. Why she made benches, Shayera did not know. But never the less, it was interesting to watch her create the furniture. After she had gotten that out of the way, she stacked the fruits by color she collected in the east side of the cave. Once all stacked, she put large pieces of rock in front of them to keep them from falling down. With some left over rock pieces she found through out the cave, she placed them around the woodpile. The woodpile was close to the entrance, far off to the right. She did the same for the center of the cave where they would burn the wood. Next, Diana broke some more stems from the palm leaves, getting an idea. For nights it would rain, she realized they would need some kind of door if they didn't want a draft. So with some of the longer, thicker bamboo limbs, she created a door. The bamboo rows she formed were held together with the stems of the palm leaves tightly. If they needed the door, all they had to was put it up against the cave's entrance and set two rocks in front of it to keep steady hold. But since they didn't need now, she set it aside on the left side of the cave's entrance. Shayera grew more impressed with each thing Diana created.
" All right. All that's left is the bed..." Diana glanced at the bamboo bed frame close to where her soul mate sat.
" Yeah. No idea how I'm going to do that." That's when Shayera got a idea of her own.
" What if you used the blanket? Could that serve as some sort of cushion?" Diana snapped her fingers, knowing what she could do with the blanket.
" Hold that thought." She remarked, going over to the Locus Fire. She hauled them over to the bed frame and started to strip the plant of it's feathers. In just a matter of minutes, all the feathers had been plucked and lay stacked on each other in the bamboo frame.
" Okay. Give me the blanket." Shayera did as she was told and watched with curious eyes to see what her soul mate was going to do. The blanket, was big and wide. It was perfect for the frame. Diana tucked all the four ends in and under the two layers of feathers. Some feathers escaped, but that was all right. She just had to get the blanket's corners tucked under. Then, she stood up and grinned at her companion.
" You still got room in that stomach of yours?" Shayera arched a brow.
" A little. Why?" Diana shook her head, her grin still lingering on her face.
" Heh. You'll see. Be right back." Diana shot out of the cave, leaving a slightly puzzled Shayera in her wake. While she was out, finding whatever, Shayera decided it was time to take her daily dose of her medicines. With a short sigh, she crawled over to the bag and dug around. She felt her new sets of clothes paused in mid motion. She wondered if she should dress. But she wanted to let her wounds air dry. So, she simply decided to put them on later. Disgusting as they were, they did help numb the pain, even if she gagged on them. After taking her tsp. of all four medicines, she settled back down close by the fire, not really minding the rough surface. Just as soon as she was about to slip off into a fitful doze, Diana came in with two pairs of freshly caught raven, yellow speckled fish in both her hands. Shayera lifted her head, trying to fight the drowsiness the medication caused.
" Diana, what's that?" She asked, a small yawn seeping past her lips.
" The final key to making our bed complete." Shayera knew she wasn't really all that awake, but she was aware that Diana was holding fish, and that she said they fish would help complete the bed. This, got Diana a raised eye brow from her soul mate.
" How are fish going to-" Diana cut her off
" It's not the fish in general. It's their bones I'm going to need. That, and some more stems." Diana glanced at the faint blazing fire.
" But to get to the bones, I need someone to eat them with me." Shayera groaned.
" I just took my medication... I'm a little out of it, Diana." Diana grinned.
" Good. This way, I can feed you myself." Shayera hung her head.
" You are enjoying this way too much." Diana laughed, setting down her catch.
" I am, aren't I?" Shayera merely nodded, lowering her head back down to rest on her folded arms. Diana let her rest while she started up another fire. Once she had a strong fire going, she started to skin her fish with a sharp rocky edge of she found in the stream where she caught the fish. Now skinless, she started to pull out the bones. Some time later, Shayera had to admit, the fish smelled delicious as her soul mate began to roast them over the flames of the their cozy fire. By the time the fish were done, Shayera could at least get her mouth to open while Diana fed her tiny pieces of the meat. From the expression on her face, Diana could tell Shayera was content with herself.
" Now who's enjoying herself?" She teased, dishing out another piece. She repeated this process until two whole fish were eaten. Shayera grunted, licking Diana's finger tips clean. After Shayera had finished, she ate the other two, letting her soul mate get back to her nap.
" Those fish..." Shayera sighed with a dreamy look in her eyes as she cuddled up into Diana's side.
" Were really, really... good." Diana swallowed before replying,
" Well I should think so. You're part hawk, remember? Don't birds like fish?" Shayera's belch answered her question. Diana rolled her eyes, muttering quietly to herself,
" And you think you know a person..." She ate the rest of her fish in silence, then gently set her soul mate's head down on the ground, glad that she was resting peacefully for once. Selecting the biggest pieces of the bones from all four fish, Diana went back over to the bamboo frame and got back to work. With bones no longer then her pinky, she stuck four around the same size in the corners of the blanket. The stems served merely as a restraint. She wrapped the stems around the middle of the bone and tied it to the edge of the frame for each corner. She was sure it would hold. At least, until she could find something stronger or more efficient. But she didn't want to worry about that now. Diana was tired after fixing the cave up and making so many things. She decided she strip herself nude and test out the bed with her soul mate. Shayera felt herself being lifted, but didn't bother to rouse herself. Then just as quickly as she lifted, she was laid back down, but she noticed the surface was soft, and warm. To her delight, she also felt a arm drape over her ribcage and pull her forward into something else that was warm itself. She smiled in her sleep as she heard her soul mate whisper near her ear.
" Love you..." Then came the kiss to her cheek. Shayera Kol was one happy woman. But not nearly `as happy as the one who spoke the words.
Meanwhile at the Watch Tower...
JL HQ: Conference Room
Time: 3:00p.m
" You mean she's not there either?!" Clark exclaimed at the screen that displayed Hippolyta, Diana's mother and Queen of the Amazons. Hippolyta shook her head from side to side gently.
" I knew something was troubling my daughter. I've know for a long time even before that ninja attacked Hawkgirl... however, I didn't think she'd run away because the pain was so bad." Batman's eyes narrowed.
" Would you mind explaining to us, what it is exactly is troubling Wonder Woman?" He asked gruffly, watching the royal woman with a keen eye. Hippolyta heaved a small sigh, glancing away from the men.
" I'm afraid only she can tell you. You see, what troubles her, will become a trouble for you all as a team in the future." J'onn looked to Flash, who seemed strangely quiet during this whole meeting. He sensed something was amiss between him and this conversation.
" Perhaps Flash can tell us what was troubling Diana. After all, he was her care taker. I'm sure there were times when she came around when he got the chance to speak with her more so or less." Flash knew what J'onn was doing and remembered he had to play it cool or else he'd blow Diana's cover and that was something he didn't want to do. All eyes, including the one on the holographic screen looked at Flash. Flash put on his charming smile and stood up from his chair.
" As a matter of fact, she did happen to talk to me about her "troubles". She told me that she and Hawkgirl had to settle their differences. Usually when she woke up, she mumbled on about her and Hawkgirl in the future... however, there was one time she said something about being a threat to the Justice League. I tried to get more out of her, but she shut me out." Flash hoped they would by his story. Most of it was true, but held a twinge of a white lie. He hated keeping the truth from his fellow team mates, and personally, he didn't know how much longer he could if they kept pressuring him like J'onn did just now. He knew for a fact Green Lantern would corner him when he wasn't expecting it and push him for more information.
" Is that so?" Batman questioned, frowning deeper. Flash re-took his seat.
" It's true. I don't care if you chose to believe me or not. I know what she told me. I was in there with her... you weren't."
" Thank you for your time, Hippolyta. We'll be sure to keep you up to date." Hippolyta smiled gently.
" May the grace of the heavens be with you." With that, the screen zapped off. Batman rose to his feet, heading for the door.
" Where are you going?" John asked, him and the other watching his retreating back. Batman's eyes narrowed as the door hissed open.
" You already know the answer to that question." Batman stepped through and into the hall, getting ready to go back to Gotham. Things were not adding up with him and he was determined to get to the bottom of things. John scoffed, craning his neck back around.
" We still don't know where Hawkgirl is, let alone our Amazon princess." Clark sighed, glancing in Flash's direction.
" You said she woke up and said something about being threat to the league two hours before her bed was empty?" A nod from Flash.
" You didn't even hear her getting up?" Once again, Flash shook his head at the men.
" I was fast asleep. I mean... I had been up a full week, relying on coffee to keep me going. I figured a few wouldn't hurt. But I was wrong. Next thing I knew when I opened my eyes, she was gone." Clark exchanged a look with John. J'onn merely studied Flash's face.
" All right. This meeting is dismissed. Everyone, keep a good look out for Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl." John sighed, getting to his feet.
" This just doesn't make any sense... why would Wonder Woman leave? And how and why did Shayera leave? There was no way she could moved herself." J'onn stood as well.
" Which is why I strongly stand by my theory. Wonder Woman took her." John rolled his eyes.
" Which I find unlikely because Wonder Woman can't stand Shayera."
" Gentlemen, we'll discuss this another time. Right now, let's go alert the others and send out search parties." Flash was just out of the clear when Clark called him back.
" Flash, the others are gone. Why don't tell me what really happened?" Flash growled under his breath.
" I already told you guys what I know... can't you leave me alone about it?" Clark stepped out and around his chair.
" All right. We'll play your game. Come to me when you're ready." Flash whirled around, teeth bared.
" Even if I knew where she was at, which I don't... I wouldn't tell you." Clark's eyes narrowed smoothly.
" Why are you guys so damn desperate to get her back? Why do you care? She's got some problems to work out and ran away to deal with them. Don't you think that's her sign to you guys to lay off? To give her some space?" Clark cocked his head to the side.
" How do you know she ran away to deal with her problems?" Flash scoffed, turning back around to face the door.
" I don't. But if I were her, that's what I'd do." With that, Flash stormed out of the Conference Room and to his quarters.
JL HQ: Mess Hall
Time: 8:00 p.m.
Black Canary played at her food, Green Arrow sitting across from her, doing the same with his. Gemini and Iron Man sat on the same side, barely even attempting to touch their food. It was the same for a lot of the league members in the Mess Hall. After Clark had announced a look out watch for Wonder Woman, they weren't too thrilled. It wasn't the looking out for her... it was taking her in as a culprit that bugged them.
" Damn it!" Iron man slammed his heavy metallic fist on the table, cracking it slightly. The other members flinched, but said nothing.
" This isn't right! You all know this isn't right!" Iron Man proclaimed loudly, bolt like eye brows drawing together. Gemini sighed, glancing away.
" I know how you feel..." Mumbled Green Arrow, loosing his appetite.
" I feel like a scapegoat." Supergirl remarked, rolling a pea to the side with the tip of her spoon.
" You're not alone there." Question retorted, stabbing a piece of smoked ham, though he knew he wasn't going to eat it. He was too upset, just like everyone else.
" You know what? I say if we find her, we give her warning and allow her to escape." Star put in, seeming much more comfortable with her idea. Black Canary lifted her gaze to Star's.
" That would be a good idea, but we're most likely going to be watched. I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to tick Super Man off... even if I could beat him to a pulp." Green Arrow chuckled, knowing she would do just that.
" So what?! We just go out there, look around, find her and bring her back in chains and shackles?!" Wild Cat exclaimed, slamming a mighty fist on the table like Iron Man moments ago. Black Canary sighed, not knowing what to say or to even do.
" I don't like this at all..." Muttered Vixen, crossing her arms over her chest.
" None of us do. But we have orders." Gemini whispered, closing her eyes. Iron Man cupped his chin, letting out a loud sigh.
" Damn it!" He exclaimed, sulking in his seat. Needless to say, the Justice League, was already falling apart. And unless Diana came back soon, things were only going to get worse.
That night, Diana rested along side her soul mate, both of them watching the stars far up in the Tyrainian sky.
" And that one. Right there. That star is known as "Throwback". The third demi god, cousin of Ares." Shayera smiled as she watched Diana pin point the location of the stars and give a brief description.
" And over there. South of Throwback, is "Francrucio". The heir of-"
" I'm amazed at you." Diana paused, glancing down at her side.
" What do you mean?" Shayera lifted a hand and wrapped a loose strand of raven hair around her index finger.
" You know what I mean. You constructed furniture out of bamboo and plants. Supplied a food source for two hundred armies... you even made our bed out of feather plants and bones from fish... and to think I said you didn't have a brain." Diana grinned, flushing slightly.
" Stop. You're embarrassing me." Shayera tugged on Diana's strand of hair.
" Ow!"
" C'mere princess..." Before Diana could respond, Shayera claimed her mouth. Diana's eyes fluttered shut and she forgot all about the stars in a heart beat. That night, two shooting stars shot through the sky. Diana pried her mouth off her soul mate's just in time to catch them.
" Hey..." She purred.
" There's a legend of Tyrainia's shooting stars. They say when you wish on them, the unthinkable can happen. Something that would seem impossible, would become possible... make a wish Shayera." Shayera giggled, closing her eyes to make her wish. When she opened, she gave Diana a mischievous look that made her uneasy.
" What?" Shayera shook her head, lifting up to plant a tender kiss on her lover's mouth.
" Let's just say... I'm going to put the legend to the test. I should know if it's true or not in a few weeks." Diana was really uneasy now.
" Shayera... what did you wish for?" Shayera only shook her head.
" You'll find out in a few weeks. That is, if the legend is true. If not, I'll tell you what my wish was. Deal?" Diana bobbed her head a few times.
" Fair enough." She lowered her head and claimed her soul mate's lips once again. They kissed long into the night until both were too weary to love each other. Shayera yawned, snuggling into Diana's warm chest.
" Good night my prince." Diana arched a brow.
" Prince? Don't you mean, "princess"?"
" No... prince." It took Diana a few minutes to get what she meant by the statement. She smiled, realizing just how lucky she was to have Shayera as her soul mate.
