Author's Note: This is definitely a work in progress. Chapter 3 has been a labor of love: I labored over and loved every minute of it. But seriously, I really did find this chapter most difficult. I'm thinking it will bridge the gap to the next chapter(s) which should reveal answers to everyone's predicament. However, I'm having trouble getting Cyborg really involved. I just don't want to leave him out. I really appreciate all the great reviews. They totally helped me keep my momentum. A huge ThAnKs! Also, I apologize for any spelling or grammatical errors, I try to proof 'em as best as I can. I wouldn't mind getting some ideas for inspiration so email me if you like. I'll be working on chapter 4 in a day or so. I'm really excited to find out what happens next! --Violet Intensions
Raven's eyelids began to flutter.
"Friends, please hurry, she is waking!" Starfire cried into her Titan Communicator. The comm buzzed with static as Cyborg and Beast Boy acknowledged they were on their way in response to her alarm. Within seconds Beast Boy, followed by Cyborg, bolted into the med-lab.
"Has she said anything?" Cyborg asked.
"No, nothing," replied Starfire mournfully. She had been sitting by Raven's bedside in the med-lab for the past hour or so. This was the first sign of life since she, Cyborg and Beast Boy had found Raven lying unconscious and unclothed on her bedroom floor two nights before.
"Damn!" Cyborg swore, he turned and kicked the med-locker behind him. The noise startled Starfire who jumped back in surprise, bumping into one of Raven's monitors. She didn't cry out even though the sharp edge of the monitor pierced her skin, revealing a few drops of green blood.
Standing on the other side of the bed, Beast Boy stared into Raven's face. There was no longer any movement of her eyes. 'Please wake up,' he implored. He reached out and lifted Raven's hand off of the bed and stroked it softly.
"Why won't she wake up?" he asked looking up into the faces of his friends. Beast Boy felt tears beginning to pool in his eyes but he held them back. He didn't want to make a spectacle of himself in front of his friends, especially Cyborg.
Starfire and Cyborg stared back at their friend then at each other. Cyborg watched tears begin to fall from Starfire's eyes. He too felt the need to cry, but he wasn't about to appear weak in front of his friends, especially Beast Boy.
"We don't know man. We don't know," Cyborg finally replied. He turned his back on Beast Boy and walked out of the med-lab. Starfire watched him leave and then walked around the bed to Beast Boy. She stopped rubbing her sore arm, wiped away a few tears and put her hand on his shoulder.
"I will watch her my dear friend. Please, go and breathe in some of the fresh air. Perhaps it will ease your worry," she said to him.
Beast Boy, still caressing Raven's hand, replied, "That's okay. I'll keep an eye on her now."
Starfire began to rub her aching upper arm again as she walked away from him. She stopped at the med-locker that Cyborg had kicked, and after opening it with some difficulty due to the damage his foot had caused, grabbed a bandage for her arm. When she reached the door to the med-lab, Starfire turned and looked at Beast Boy and Raven. She wanted to speak to him, talk to him about what had happened, but he was too concerned over Raven's condition and Robin's disappearance. They all were. But Starfire had other concerns that she needed to discuss. However, she could not find the words. Instead, she turned and exited the room.
Now alone with Raven, Beast Boy spoke to her out loud.
"Raven, if you can hear me, please wake up!" he pleaded. He wanted to say so much more to her but he knew it wouldn't be appropriate in her condition. Beast Boy couldn't help wondering what had happened and why had Robin disappeared? The thought of Robin made his blood boil. He knew the two of them had been together. Cyborg may have hidden it from Starfire's view, but Beast Boy had seen it clearly: Robin's mask. Cyborg had snatched it up from the floor along with a pair of Raven's underpants. The green changeling appreciated his friend's attempt at protecting both him and Starfire, but Beast Boy thought he was better off knowing the truth.
He lay Raven's hand back down on the bed and moved to the other side of the bed and sat down in the chair Starfire had occupied not so very long ago. The past two days had been difficult on everyone. Beast Boy was exhausted. He, Starfire and Cyborg had been taking shifts watching over Raven and searching for Robin by patrolling the city and using the equipment the Tower had to offer. He recalled running to Raven's door with Starfire beside him. Cyborg was already there pounding on the door. All three of them did their best to get into the room, but not even Cyborg overriding the auto-close made a difference. Not until Starfire blew the door off it's hinges with several green starbolts from her eyes were they able to enter the room to find Raven, but no trace of Robin.
Beast Boy tried to recollect the moments before running down the hall, but all he could remember was a strange dream and nearly being trampled by Cyborg. Everything else was a blur. However, something tugged at his thoughts, something that made the beast inside him claw to get out. Unable to tack down the elusive thought or memory, Beast Boy leaned back in the chair, his eyelids beginning to droop. "Can't fall asleep," he yawned. Beast Boy began to snore softly.
"Oh Beast Boy! You are so smart and sexy and funny and... and... well, funny!" squealed the blonde to Beast Boy's right.
"I think you are the hottest guy I have ever met! Can't I be your girlfriend?" asked the ginger-haired girl on his left. Both girls were kneeling on either side of him, hanging on his arms, reaching for him and pulling at his clothes. They would purr and giggle and occasionally squeal "Beast Boy!".
"Girls, girls... There's only enough of me for... both of you!" He smiled down at them, his lips interrupted by a lone fang. The ginger-haired vixen on his left rose to her feet and Beast Boy turned towards her, his right arm still in the clutches of the fair-haired cutie on her knees. 'I think they've got me where they want me,' he thought as the scarlet siren planted her lips firmly on his. Beast Boy's eyes widened at the shock of the kiss then closed them as he relaxed into the embrace. He parted his lips ever so slightly and let his tongue slip through them where it met her open and inviting mouth.
"Mmmm," Beast Boy breathed. The kisses came harder and faster keeping pace with the changeling's heartbeat. He opened his eyes for just a moment to make sure the girl was real. Seeing she was still there he started to close his eyes again when he realized that something was tugging on his arm. Breaking away from such a lovely, passionate kiss, Beast Boy turned to look at the sweet treat pulling at his arm while the other proceeded to kiss little lines up and down his neck. Beast Boy managed to yank his arm out of her grip and placed his hand on her cheek. "Terra," he churred as he tenderly caressed her cheek. A faint breeze began to blow bringing a few strands of Terra's gossamer hair across her face. Beast Boy gently grasped the hair in his fingers and pulled it away from her face, her azure eyes following his movements. When his hand was back on her cheek, she looked up into his face. He beamed down at her; he couldn't believe she was here, he thought he had lost her forever and a day ago. He no longer felt the kisses of the copper-top to his left; he was lost in Terra's eyes. She smiled back up at him and opened her mouth.
The shrill scream that exploded from her throat made Beast Boy jump back. Terra stood, her face no longer sweet and loving, but hostile and angry. Her eyes squinted into slits, she balled her fists and shook the ground. Beast Boy threw his arms out to the sides to keep his balance. Terra glided effortlessly towards him, her hair blowing back behind her, streaks of pitch bleeding into her flaxen mane. Beast Boy backed away; he couldn't comprehend her anger. He loved Terra. She was his true love and she had sacrificed herself for the good of the many; why was she coming at him with such ferocity? What had he done? Beast Boy tripped over his feet as he continued backwards over the trembling terrain. Once again Terra's mouth gaped open, but instead of sound, black cords spiraled out, ensnaring him.
Beast Boy lay in his bed. The bizarre dream tumbling over and over in his mind, slowly fading into recollection.
"Terra," he whispered into the darkness. He rubbed his stomach lazily, her eyes emblazoned on his brain. He shook their gaze from his mind's eye. Beast Boy licked his lips with a sticky, cottony tongue. "Gah...," he moaned, "need water." He got up, wiping the deep sleep from his eyes, and ambled towards the door. Instinctively he side-stepped the trappings of his bedroom floor, a pizza box, a pile of sneakers, and managed not to trip in the dark. He wasn't necessarily a slob, he just had a unique style of organization.
Before he reached the door, Beast Boy exhaled deeply and wrung his hands; he could still feel the softness of her cheek on his fingers. He paused for a moment, he swore he had heard Robin's voice and other noises from the hall. But he dismissed it as being tired and walked forward. The steel door opened automatically at his approach and he entered the hallway, unaware that he was in the path of a charging man-machine.
"Aaaaarrg!" Beast Boy cried out seeing his friend rushing at him. Cyborg stepped on his foot, causing Beast Boy to fall backwards into Starfire's arms. She had clamped a hand down over his mouth and shushed him. He held his foot and tried to ask Starfire what was going on, but her hand just pulled tighter on his mouth. He stopped trying to ask questions and stood still, finally realizing something was up and it wasn't just a late night refrigerator raid. Starfire withdrew her hand, faced him and signaled silence. He stared understanding into her green on green eyes.
Quickly surveying the situation developing outside of Raven's room, he deduced that she may be in danger. Beast Boy summoned a mouse and he quickly took its shape. His friends loomed above him, all prepared for what may lay beyond the door. Mouse Boy scurried under Raven's door. It was a tight squeeze, but he made it. When he was safely on the other side, he fixated on his human shape and silently transformed.
Beast Boy couldn't see anything as his eyes adjusted to the dark. Soon the room began to materialize in front of him. He could see the outline of Raven sitting on her bed. She was turned away from him, shoulders hunched, her head hanging down. Not wanting to scare her, Beast Boy spoke timidly.
"R.. Raven?" he whispered.
"Get out," she whispered back. She didn't seem surprised at his arrival.
"Raven, are you okay?" Beast Boy asked. He didn't know what was going on. All he knew was that the Team seemed concerned for her and he was here to investigate. Why they were concerned, he hadn't a clue.
"Get out!" she screamed. Beast Boy ducked as he sensed something moving towards him. He heard it hit the door behind him then land on the floor with a quiet thud. This had been the second time someone he loved screamed at him tonight. True, one was only a dream, but she screamed nonetheless.
'At least Terra didn't throw anything at me,' he thought sulkily as he turned and resumed mouse form. Changing into himself as he emerged from under the door, he couldn't find the strength to stand. He hadn't figured out what the problem was, only that she seemed fine.
"She's okay," he told the other Titans and rose to his feet. As he started towards his room, he glanced up for just a moment and caught Starfire's eyes. She was looking mournfully at his face. She opened her mouth wanting to say something to him, but decided it best not to speak. Beast Boy looked away from her and disappeared behind his bedroom door.
As the door slid closed behind him, Beast Boy heard Robin and Starfire begin to plead with Raven, begging her to confide in them her troubles. He heard Robin say something about hearing screams. 'Strange,' Beast Boy thought, 'her room's right next to mine. Woulda thought I'd hear that.' He lay back down on his bottom bunk. The mild ruckus in the hall had died down and now everything was silent. Beast Boy's thoughts began floating back to his dream: Terra's face in his hands.
"Huh?" Beast Boy snorted. He had fallen asleep. This time, his slumber was not interrupted by dreams. He lifted his head and looked around the room groggily but listened intently to the Tower. The changeling didn't want to miss another warning that one of his friends was in danger. When he was satisfied with the state of things and lay his head back down, he heard a faint knock at his door. He peeled himself off the bed and stumbled towards the door. Half-way there he heard a lilting voice say "Beast Boy?" It was Starfire.
Beast Boy opened his door. Starfire stood in the doorframe, her head lowered.
"Star?" Beast Boy questioned. Starfire responded with a loud, wet snuffle. She wiped her hand under her nose then whimpered:
"May I come in?" She still kept her face from view.
"Sh.. sh... sure," replied Beast Boy and he stepped aside to let her pass. Starfire entered the room on foot, but seeing the state of the floor, allowed herself to hover just inches above the clutter strewn about. She wasn't quite sure what she was doing here, she just couldn't be alone. She needed a friend.
"Are you okay?" asked Beast Boy when Starfire hadn't said anything. She remained motionless poised in the air. Beast Boy moved closer to her, reached up a bit to put a hand on her shoulder.
"Star?" he repeated. Starfire slowly turned towards him and lifted her head. Her emerald eyes were glassy with tears. Beast Boy could see himself reflected in her orbs, a puzzled look on his face. Starfire's mouth began to tremble and her face glowed crimson. The tears in her eyes were pushed out onto her cheeks and fresh tears took their place.
"I.. I...," she stammered. She was crying hard now, her breath hitching and choking. No longer able to control her emotions, she found her feet and swiftly moved to Beast Boy and fell onto his shoulder. Starfire wrapped her arms around him and cried into the nape of his neck.
Beast Boy was startled by her movements and held his arms wide to help keep his balance so as not to fall backward with the force of her hug. When he steadied himself, he folded his arms around her. As Starfire sobbed, Beast Boy rubbed her back hoping to comfort her. He certainly didn't tell her to 'calm down' or 'don't cry'; hours of movies and T.V. had taught him that when a woman cries, you ought to just let her cry. Beast Boy wasn't about to doubt the lessons he had learned from the entertainment industry. So he held her silently.
After a few moments, her sobs began to quiet. He started to sway back and forth, hoping maybe the movement would help her along. Beast Boy had to admit that having Starfire in his arms was a bit exciting. He had never held a girl so close or for so long before. Sure, he had had plenty of hugs from all the girls in his life, but this just seemed so much more intimate. Her face so close to his, breathing hot, moist breaths on his neck. Beast Boy couldn't help but feel a stir in his pants. Trying to quell any lustful thoughts, he tried to think of Control Freak in a tutu. But no matter how hard he tried (Aqualad in a pink evening gown), he couldn't stop feeling a dizzy, yet savage, warmth all over. The beast in him had awakened.
Starfire pulled her head away from the cradle of his shoulder. "I am sorry," she said, her voice cracking. She couldn't bring herself to look him in the eye, embarrassed by her actions.
"It's okay Starfire," Beast Boy said gently. He gave her a squeeze then released his hold on her. She stepped back, her hands still on his shoulders. "Can I get you a tissue?" he asked and smiled at her.
Starfire smiled back. She never fully understood Beast Boy. His humorous antics were sometimes lost on her. But when someone was in trouble or needed a kind word, they could depend upon Beast Boy's gentle countenance. She knew he had the biggest heart out of all the Titans. Starfire knew that Robin would have disagreed saying her heart was the biggest. When the thought of Robin flashed through her mind, Starfire's face went pale. Beast Boy noticed.
"Here, sit down," he said and led her towards his bed. He brushed off the bedspread and picked up some socks and a shirt and threw them on the floor in front of his closet. Beast Boy sat Starfire down, a dazed expression on her face. He turned to his bedside table, opened a drawer and grabbed a few tissues from the box inside. When he tried to hand them to Starfire, she wouldn't respond.
"Starfire?" He looked into her eyes but they looked past his and into the room behind him. Beast Boy used one of the tissues and dabbed at the tears that glistened on her cheeks. Something about the horrible sadness upon her face made Beast Boy stop blotting her tears. He leaned towards her and kissed her forehead. "Whatever it is, I'm here for you," he said looking into her eyes.
Starfire's empty gaze was broken by Beast Boy's loving gesture. She looked up into his seagreen eyes and sighed. He was so sweet, so kind, she felt she didn't deserve to have him as a friend. While her thoughts had been preoccupied with the sight of Robin entering Raven's room, Beast Boy had preoccupied himself with comforting her. He hadn't even asked her why she was upset. Only saying her name to illicit a response, not to kill his curiosity. Starfire felt the fool.
More so, she felt the fool having stood outside Raven's room trying to listen to what she and Robin were talking about. Starfire had not been able to hear everything, but they had talked a long time. Something about Raven's "emper tree". Things had gotten quiet inside of the room and she began to feel angry and upset. This new turn of events had upset her so much she didn't know to whom to turn. So she turned to the room closest to where she stood: Beast Boy's.
"I am sorry," Starfire said. "I have acted so foolishly. Thank you for being so kind," she smiled. Beast Boy grinned back at her. He tried to keep his eyes locked with hers but they kept traveling lower than that. Beast Boy admired her pajamas; Starfire wore a white tank and shorts both adorned with tiny pink flowers. He wondered how they smelled. And felt (Adonis in a blue polka-dot bathing suit).
"Of course! What are friends fo...," Beast Boy's words were cut short by Starfire's lips upon his. He melted.
"What was that for?" he asked when they parted.
"For being my friend and not thinking me a silly girl," said Starfire. She averted her eyes from his, her cheeks rosy with embarrassment. Beast Boy sat down next to her.
"I don't think you're silly, Star. I think you're swell!" Beast Boy gave her a huge smile, making her giggle. Sitting on the bed, they looked at one another. "Uh, do you want to talk?" asked Beast Boy while scratching the back of his neck.
"I have bothered you long enough," Starfire replied. "You should go back to sleep." She stood up and Beast Boy followed suit. "Thank you again for letting me cry upon your shoulder." Starfire placed a hand on Beast Boy's arm, leaned towards him and put her mouth on his. Beast Boy turned towards Starfire and let his arms encircle her waist. He thought maybe she would pull away, but she didn't. Her hand on his arm slid up to his shoulder then behind his neck to meet her other arm.
"Are you enjoying this...," Starfire trailed off after she severed their embrace. She could not recall the name of when mouths mingle.
"Kiss?" Beast Boy finished for her. "Yes, very much. Did you enjoy the kiss?" he asked wondering if he had just been her first.
"Oh yes, it is most pleasant," Starfire murmured. "May we continue the 'kiss'?" she asked. Beast Boy answered her by stroking her cheek then running his hand behind her head, letting his fingers get lost in her scarlet tresses. He gently guided her head towards his, turning his face up to her and meeting her lips in another kiss. This all seemed terribly familiar to him and suddenly it became clear to him. The dream! Terra had been there, but there was another. And he had kissed her. All he remembered was that she had red hair. Could it have been Starfire? Had he foreseen this somehow? He was so focused on Terra and how much he missed her, he had totally abandoned the thought of the fiery nymph.
He felt the beast stir, reminding him that he was awake and aware of what was going on. Beast Boy once again tried to squash him down (Cyborg the Dancing Bear), but this time the beast would have his way. It was awake and wanted to play.
Beast Boy put his other hand on Starfire's shoulder and helped her back down to the bed. He pushed her gently onto her back, straddled above her, moving his kisses over her cheeks, ears, and neck. She giggled and sighed at the dance his lips played across her face and neck. Starfire's hands had begun to caress his body wherever they roamed, his back, chest, buttocks, and nearly his most sensitive area, the place where the beast lay in wait.
"Starfire," Beast Boy whispered into her ear. He started to lay on top of her, the beast craving the sensation of her body, when something above his head caught his attention. Beast Boy held still and lifted his head up. Just below where the top bunk was flush with the wall, a thin coil of black smoke was seeping through the wall. Beast Boy was stunned into place. Starfire noticed he had discontinued his kissing and looked to see what was the matter. When she looked in the direction he was staring, Starfire gasped.
"What is that?" she asked in a startled voice. She turned onto her stomach beneath him to get a better view.
"I don't know," he replied quietly. "Let's back away. Slowly." The two Titans got up off of the bed. Beast Boy grabbed Starfire's hand. "Follow me," he said, knowing that he could navigate them quickly through the debris on the floor. The black wisp of smoke continued to pour through the wall, branching out into the room. Beast Boy and Starfire were nearly at the door when the room began to tremble causing their hands to unclasp. The trembling became a rumble, it felt as if the entire Tower were about to crumble beneath their feet. Starfire reached out and met Beast Boy's waiting arms. They held each other close, not knowing what was happening or what to do.
"What is happening?!?" Starfire screamed. She tried to scream again, but she was interrupted by a terrible cacophony of screams from the direction of the black smoke. The teens released their grasp on one another in order to clap their hands over their aching ears. Though she couldn't hear herself, Starfire screamed. The world was falling to pieces around them and she was petrified.
Beast Boy looked up and saw Starfire with her mouth open wide and a horrified look on her face. He inched closer to her, trying not lose his grip on his ears. Figuring he would be going deaf anyways, he gave up trying to save his ears and reached out for Starfire. The moment he had her in his arms, his dream came back to him again.
In the dream he had been kissing a girl with flaming red hair; he and Starfire had kissed. In his dream, Terra had screamed; they were being assaulted by violent shrieks and wails. In his dream, Terra shook the ground, with fury in her eyes; the ground was quaking beneath them. In his dream, Terra had spit black rope at him; an inky black mist was effusing from the wall.
Beast Boy was only able to think of his dream and feel Starfire shiver with fear in his arms before the darkness covered them. The livid cloud enveloped the room, suspending Beast Boy and Starfire in a grotesque embrace. As a matter of instinct, to protect his friend, the beast had emerged. Beast Boy was half transformed into a werewolf. A look of pain frozen on his face, his body arched in mid-transformation. Starfire kneeled close to him, hands still clamped to the sides of her head, her mouth agape with an unheard scream, her jade colored eyes wide, a look of unmitigated fear in them. The scene mocked a moment from one of Beast Boy's beloved black and white horror movies. But there was no one to see it. No one to appreciate the gravity of what was happening in Titan Tower.
There was only darkness.
Cyborg walked into the med-lab to find Beast Boy sound asleep in a chair. Raven still lay unconscious despite Beast Boy's growls and snores.
"Hey," Cyborg said as he shook Beast Boy's shoulder lightly. "BB, it's time to wake up." Beast Boy grunted, opening his eyes and straightening himself up in the chair.
"Mmmmawake," he mumbled, watching his friend turn and attend to Raven. Cyborg checked her monitors then went to her bedside. Gingerly he lifted each of her eyelids, checking the reaction of her pupils with a small light at the end of his forefinger. Nothing had changed, but she remained stable. Cyborg stroked Raven's hair looking at her face in the hopes she would wake at that very moment. But Raven lay there still and silent.
"Any change?" asked Beast Boy. He was fully awake now and standing across from Cyborg.
Cyborg looked up from Raven and at his green friend. "No," he replied.
"What about Robin? Any word yet?"
"Not a thing. Starfire hasn't returned from her patrol yet, but she checked in on the T-Comm about a half hour ago. No sign of him." Cyborg started towards the door and signaled Beast Boy to follow him. Beast Boy gave Raven a long look and followed him into the living area.
The large plasma screen on the far wall showed a schematic of the city. Cyborg had been doing his own patrolling from the Tower. He had been able to hack into the city's Department of Transportation database, using their traffic signal cameras and digital blueprints to track Robin. Other than two fender-benders and a couple kissing under a street lamp, there wasn't much activity this late at night.
Cyborg had been the most diligent of the remaining team, making the most of his time in the search for Robin and care of Raven. He had noticed that Beast Boy and Starfire had been distracted. Neither spoke much, especially to each other, and both were always lost in thought. Cyborg knew they were concerned about their friends, he was just as worried. He wish he knew what had happened that night. It was frustrating not having any answers nor being able to find any.
Nearly three nights prior, Cyborg's recharge cycle had been disrupted by the internal alarm. Being linked to the Tower's mainframe, he was able to see the disturbance was once again coming from Raven's room. It had happened earlier that same night when Raven had screamed. He had dismissed her outburst as a "girl thing", perhaps a nightmare, and went off to bed without a second thought. Cyborg always felt a twinge of guilt when he thought how he should of helped Robin investigate further. Maybe none of this would have happened, or maybe things would have been worse. He knew he couldn't change the past, he could only deal with the present.
Cyborg sat down on the couch in front of the screen's console. He tapped a few keys and a small square appeared in the upper left portion of the large screen. Beast Boy took a seat near Cyborg and looked at the little box on the monitor. He could see Raven in the med-lab.
"Cool," Beast Boy said faintly.
"Yeah, well, while you've been sleeping, I've been working." Cyborg pressed a few more buttons on the console. The schematics of the city changed to a different sector.
"I'm sorry. I'm just tired. And...," Beast Boy hesitated. He heard the door to the living area open. Starfire floated into the room looking tired. Cyborg craned his neck to watch her coming towards them.
"Any luck?" he asked. Starfire drifted over the top of sofa and sat on the other side of Cyborg.
"I have not located Robin. Nor any of the luck. I fear we are at a, how you say, 'dead end'," Starfire looked at the small square containing Raven. "I see Raven has not yet awakened. Will we not find any answers to this puzzle?" she asked looking at Cyborg and Beast Boy.
Cyborg looked away from her questioning gaze and back to his console. He wasn't sure why, but being between the two of them made him feel very uncomfortable. A thick tension spread throughout the room as none of the Titans spoke, the only sound was the metallic tap-tap-tap of Cyborg's fingers on the console keypad. The silence was driving him mad.
"That's it," Cyborg said throwing up his hands. "Whatever is going on with you two, I want it to stop!" He looked from one to the other; Beast Boy sat back, crossing his arms, Starfire's bottom lip trembled. When neither responded to his warning, Cyborg stormed out of the room.
"I'm going on patrol. I'll be back...," he said as the door closed, separating him from Beast Boy and Starfire. The half-man half-machine marched down the hall, still angry at his friends. He felt so in the dark, left out of the loop. Robin had been alone with Raven. What the hell was that about? To find his mask and pajamas on the floor of her room was a shock. He was just glad he had managed to grab the mask (and a pair of blue underwear) and push his other clothes under the bed before BB and Star had seen them. Or had he? Was that why they were so stoic? They had seen the remnants of an obvious night of passion. It wasn't that much of a stretch to figure out what had happened in Raven's room. Cyborg couldn't imagine that either Starfire or Beast Boy were that dense. He would have to be sure to talk to them when he returned. They weren't going to get any answers until they started acting like a team again. Cyborg started up the T-Car and drove out of the garage, leaving Starfire, Beast Boy, and Raven behind.
Back in the Tower, Starfire and Beast Boy remained on opposite sides of the couch, neither had said a word since Cyborg's departure. Both teens were struggling with thoughts forgotten and remembered. Beast Boy was trying to recall why the beast was awake while Starfire was dwelling upon their tender rendezvous. They could not bring themselves to broach the subject of that fateful night.
Starfire was worried that it had been a mistake. Since their discovery of Raven, Beast Boy had mostly been at her side. 'How could he have kissed me if he truly loves her,' she thought. Starfire didn't want it to bother her, but it did. Anytime she was near Beast Boy her heart raced and she felt flush. It was the feeling that she normally got when she was near Robin. But Robin had... She pushed the image of his face out of her mind. Starfire didn't think she could deal with that issue just yet. She turned to look at Beast Boy.
He was staring wide-eyed and slack-jawed at the jumbo screen. Starfire turned in the direction of his surprised scrutiny. There inside the tiny pixelated box she could see Raven. Her eyes were open.
