A Secret No More
Beast Boy woke up to the sound of Starfire’s screams. “My neck,” she cried, “what happened?” The shrill sound filled the tower, causing all the titans to run to Starfire’s room. “Star,” Robin shouted pounding on the alien girl’s door, “what’s wrong?” Starfire opened the door. The other titans gasped. There on Starfire’s neck was a pair of holes. “What happened,” Robin said concerned. “I do not have an idea of what happened to me,” Starfire responded. “Does it hurt,” Cyborg said. The Tamaranian shook her head; “I feel little pain in my neck from these wounds.” Beast Boy stayed in the back, avoiding the others. “We’ll find out who did this,” Robin said.
Beast Boy felt nervous. “If the others find out that I did that to Starfire, they’ll be totally upset with me,” heughtught. He started to slip back, but Cybord notice. “Where you doing man,” he asked. “I’m just going to sniff out some clues,” Beast Boy and he changed into a dog and walked away. “Does he seem a little worried,” Robin said watching his friend leave. “Our friend goes appears to be in turmoil,” Starfire said, concerned for Beast Boy. “I think that we should take care of him before we determine what happened.” The titans looked at her. “Raven can heal me,” Starfire said hopeful that Raven would. “Sure,” the dark sorceress said and healed the wound.
“You sure that you want to find out about Beast Boy first, Star,” Robin asked. “Indeed,” she replied. “I think that we should help Beast Boy and find out what happened to Starfire,” Cyborg said. Robin nodded in agreement. Starfire would be the one to comfort Beast Boy. Surely she would be the best one to help him. Robin and Cyborg went to check surveillance. Raven went to her room to meditate to focus her energy as to be able to aid in Robin and Cyborg’s search for evidence.
Starfire tried to find her friend. “Beast Boy,” she called out, “to where have to gone?” She searched the tower high and low, under the couch, even in the refrigerator, but the green titan was nowhere to be found. “Perhaps he has gone to the roof,” she thought. The Tamaranian flew to check to see if she was right. There sitting on the edge of the roof, Beast Boy stared into the horizon. “Beast Boy,” Starfire said approaching her friend, “Are you feeling alright.” Beast Boy didn’t say anything; he was feeling guilty about what he had done. “Please talk to me,” Starfire pleaded, concerned for the well being of her friend. Beast Boy turned to look at the concerned Tamaranian, his eyes red from tears. “If I told you something about me, something really bad, would reject me,” Beast Boy said between his sniffling. “Surely you cannot tell me something that would cause the others to reject you,” Starfire said reassuringly. “If I tell you what’s bugging me, will you promise not to tell the others? Please tell me that you won’t tell,” Beast Boy begged. Starfire, wanting to help her friend, agreed to the request. “Please tell me Beast Boy. If you cannot tell anyone, you will never be able to feel happiness again.” Beast Boy looked from Starfire and stared at Jump City starting its day. Taking a deep breath, Beast Boy tried to keep himself calm. “You know that I was having that weird dream, right?” Starfire nodded. “Well, Raven said that it meant that I was going to go through some sort of change, but she didn’t know what is was. Well, now I know what it was, is. Starfire, I was the one that hurt you. I don’t know what happened; its like my animal nature took over me.”
Starfire didn’t know how to respond. On the one hand, she was appalled at her friend for harming her. On the other, she admired his honesty. “Beast Boy,” she said to the distraught titan, “I promised that I would not tell, but you have to decide whether or not you will tell the others.” Beast Boy struggled to find a solution to the problem that wouldn’t make himself look like a monster. As he went to the main room, Robin and Cyborg were coming up to meet him.
“Hey guys,” Beast Boy said, “what’s up?” His two friends stared at him, not saying anything. Beast Boy began to feel uncomfortable. “I think that we need to talk,” Robin said. Beast Boy gulped, but there was no way that he was going to get out of the situation. He bowed his head as he followed his friends downstairs to the kitchen. There, Starfire was waiting but Raven had not come down from her room. “She’s still not here,” Robin asked, referring to Raven. Starfire shook her head, “Our friend has not joined us,” she said, “Should I go get her from her room?” Robin shook his head, “She probably wants to be left alone. We need to respect that.” “Then we should probably get this over with,” Cyborg said. Beast Boy slowly followed, ashamed and embarrassed.
“You have something that you tell us,” Robin said. Beast Boy stared at the ground, staying unusually quiet. “Come on,” Cyborg said, “we saw on the videotapes from the cameras so we know that you hurt Starfire, we want to know why.” Still the green titan remained silent, staring at the floor. “Please explain what happened,” Starfire begged. Beast Boy tried to speak, but as he did, he began to think that his friends would be less trusting of him, maybe to the point that that wouldn’t want him as part of the team. “I’m sorry,” he cried, “Please forgive me. I don’t know why I did it. I don’t want it to happen again. Please, don’t reject me. I...I’m begging you guys.” He finally broke down and let the tears flow. Starfire moved in her heart, forgave her friend. Robin and Cyborg looked at each other, unsure of what they should continue. “Star,” Robin said softly, “what do you say? You were the victim.” She looked at Robin, then to Cyborg, and finally to Beast Boy. “You need not feel guilty any longer,” she said placing her hand on his shoulder. “So what’s going to happen,” the green titan asked. “We’re going to make sure that this won’t happen again,” Robin said. “You mean that you’re going to...” Beast Boy started. Robin shook his head. “No, you’re not out of the titans, the rest of us are just going to keep watching you.” But Beast Boy had one more question, “How am I gonna keep control of my blood lust?” “We’re just going to have to work on that,” Robin responded. “Should I tell Raven,” Beast Boy said. “Perhaps you should wait ‘til she comes down from her room. I don’t think that it would be a good idea to bug her,” Robin said.
While the others went about their business, Beast Boy sat on the couch. The others wanted to make sure that he didn’t repeat his vampire act. While he waited, he played his video games in the hope that he would be somehow able suppress and defeat his new addiction. “Dude,” the green titan said, bored silly, “what am I going to do? I am going to go out of my mind.” Robin walked up behind him. “You don’t have to stay here all day,” he said walking up. Beast Boy jumped, surprised at the voice. “What,” he said regaining his composure. “You don’t have to stay here all day, just come and get us when you start to lose it,” Robin said. Beast Boy got up and headed towards the kitchen. As he did, he bumped into Raven. “Sorry,” Beast Boy said.
Raven looked at Beast Boy. “Its alright,” she said. But all her meditation didn’t prepare her for what Beast Boy was about to tell her. “Raven,” Beast Boy said, “the others and me think that you should know about my problem.” The teen sorceress looked at the green titan, wondering what he was talking about. “You remember that you told me what that dream was about, right?” Raven nodded. “Well, that weird change, its uh,” Beast Boy stuttered. “Just tell me Beast Boy. Nothing that you say can surprise me.” Beast Boy paused and continued. “I’m the one that hurt Starfire. I bit her neck and drank her blood.” Raven wasn’t expecting that. “Excuse me,” she said. “I hurt Star,” he said. Raven couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Before, he was merely an annoying, green teammate who didn’t know how to keep his mouth shut. Now, there was something about his blood lust that intrigued and attracted her to him. Perhaps it was because he wasn’t so annoying, or maybe it was because that his actions were so dark. “Beast Boy...” she started, but before she could finish, the titan’s alarm went off. “Great,” Raven thought. She and Beast Boy ran to meet the others. “What’s going on,” the green titan asked his teammates. “Looks like someone else is attacking the same place Red X did before,” Robin said. “But who would want the same thing as that guy,” Beast Boy asked. “I’ll let you have one guess,” Robin replied. “Slade? You think that Slade put X up to it before?” The boy wonder looked at his friend, “I wouldn’t be surprised. That guy has skill went it comes to manipulation. He did it to me.” The memory of being forced to be Slade’s apprentice still haunted him at times. “Lets take the t-car this time,” Cyborg said, “we haven’t used it since I built the replacement.” “Let’s go,” Robin said as Cyborg used his computer tech to drive the car to the front of the tower.
“How is this going to get off the island,” Raven asked skeptically. Cyborg smiled, “Just watch,” he said and pressed a couple of buttons on the dash. In front of them, an underground passage opened. The other titans looked a Cyborg. “Reaches the other side faster,” he said as he slammed on the gas. The force knocked the others into their seats. “I think that we’re going to be there before that guy leaves,” Beast Boy said as Cyborg’s car screeched down the side streets. “Look out,” Robin yelled seeing a careless pedestrian crossing their path. With some quick calculations and reflexes, Cyborg missed the civilian. “Whew,” Beast Boy said, “I thought you were going to hit him.” Cyborg accelerated the car, now only a few blocks away from the scene of the crime.
Screeching to a halt, the titans got out of the t-car as quickly as they could. “Titans, go,” Robin shouted. The heroes charged the building again, wondering what was going on. This time, the doors where ripped off their hinges. “I think that we’re going to be in for a fight,” Beast Boy said. “Who is that strong would be after some tech,” Cyborg asked. “Slade probably put Cinderblock up to this. Look at the kind of damage around here. Tossed doors, smashed gate, its gotta be Cinderblock,” Robin said. The titans walked down the main corridor, looking for the intruder. Down the hall, a large, dark, shadowy figure ran passed them, then a smaller one, and other even smaller. “Dude, did you see that,” Beast Boy said. “What was it,” Robin said looking at his friend. “Three figures, large medium and small,” Beast Boy answered. Robin looked at the others, “Titans go!”
The titans ran down the hall, looking for what Beast Boy saw. “Hey Cyborg, shed us some more light,” Robin said. Cyborg enhanced his camera, giving the titans a clear path. Again, the figures passed and this time all the titans saw them. “Mammoth, Jinx, and Gizmo,” Cyborg said, “What are they doing here?” Robin shook his head, “Going down.” The teen titans ran faster, trying to catch up to the criminal trio. They saw them split up, Jinx went right, Mammoth left, and Gizmo went straight ahead. “Looks like their looking for something,” Beast Boy said. “Titans, split up,” Robin yelled. He and Starfire went after Mammoth, Cyborg charged after Gizmo, and Raven went after Jinx. Beast Boy stood alone. “Dudes, I can’t stay alone. What if I...” he yelled. “Go with Raven or Cyborg,” Robin yelled as he ran to catch Mammoth.
“Fine,” Beast Boy thought, “I’ll help Raven, Cyborg can beat Gizmo himself” (AN: Idea from episode ‘Winner take All’). “Hey Raven,” he shouted follow the dark sorceress. When he caught up, Raven and Jinx were locked in battle. While Raven threw random objects and dodged Jinx’s bad luck, Jinx managed to avoid getting hit by Raven. “Looks like you could...” Beast Boy couldn’t finish a piece of sheet metal from the ceiling smacked into his face. “Oops, looks like you ran into a little bad luck,” the pink enchantress tease. Raven tried to take advantage of the distraction, but Jinx was again able to avoid the onslaught of flying objects. The battle continued, neither able to get an advantage.
Groggily, Beast Boy got to his feet. Seeing Raven and Jinx so concentrated on each other, he morphed into a ram and slammed into Jinx. The blow sent the bad luck sorceress to the ground. Before she was able to get up, Raven bent several bars around her h, nu, nullifying her magic. “What are you up to,” Raven demanded. Beast Boy stood next to her, looking at Jinx. “What are you looking at,” Jinx demanded. “You’re in no position to demand anything,” Raven said. Beast Boy tried just kept eyeing Jinx as another victim, his vampire desires on the rise again. His eyes changed. His calm demeanor was replaced by bloodlust. “Uh, Raven,” he said, “You remember my problem? I think unless you are going to stop me, I am going to do it again.” But Raven did nothing; she wanted to witness the dark act. “Go ahead,” she said, “I won’t tell and who’s going to believe her after I cover the wounds.” Beast Boy looked at her, then to Jinx. “You serious,” he said in disbelief. Raven nodded, “Go ahead, I said I’ll cover this for you, and nobody is going to believe her,” she said pointing to Jinx. Beast Boy’s dark side took over so he got one his, lowered his head to his foe’s neck, and proceeded to bite down. Jinx’s screams were quickly muffled by Raven, who used her powers to cover her mouth. Beast Boy took his time, enjoying himself. When he was done, some blood dribbled from his lips. “Are you finished,” Raven asked. Beast Boy wiped his mouth and smiled. “Yeah, I’m done.” Raven proceeded to use her powers to heal the bite on the fallen enemy. “You won’t get away with this,” Jinx yelled, “Everyone in the city is going to know about this.” Raven stared at the pink sorceress. “You think anyone is going to believe you. You have no proof, none. There is no video and I made it so you have no scar. Tell anyone and you won’t be able to back it up.” Beast Boy changed into a gorilla and grabbed Jinx, taking her down to hall where the two titans hoped the others were.
When they got to the fork in the hall, the others still hadn’t shown up. “Dude, where are the others” Beast Boy thought out loud when he changed back. “We’re right here,” Robin said, “Think you could give us a hand.” Beast Boy transformed into a gorilla again to give his friend a hand. With the extra strength from the change, he tossed Mammoth next to Jinx who was laying against the wall, still screaming about what Beast Boy did to her. “What is the ruckus,” Cyborg shouted as he walked in holding Gizmo at arm length. “Jinx’s just screaming about how badly Raven beat her,” Beast Boy said. “Well Beast Boy helped,” Raven said, “he got me the upper hand I needed to beat her.” Robin and Starfire were glad that they were able to work together well, it was about time that they should. “But why is she talking about a bite on her neck,” Robin asked, “Beast Boy?” Raven intervened for her friend; after all, she encouraged him to go for it. “When Beast Boy hit her, I followed up and knocked her out. We waited until she woke up, which was about five minute, plenty of time to have a dream or in this case, a nightmare.” Robin looked at Jinx’s neck for any signs of a wound, but there were none. Raven had done a good job in covering up for Beast Boy. Then Robin changed the subject.
“Who put you up to this,” he yelled. “Why should we tell you,” Gizmo yelled, “You’re just a bunch of crud munching zits.” “Either you tell use or we’ll force you to tell us,” Robin threatened. Mammoth started to wake up, but Beast Boy held him down. “Now are you going to tell us, or are we going to have to do this the hard way,” Cyborg said. The trio said nothing, not a word. “Fine,” Robin said, “we’ll take them to jail and the cops can handle it.” Then Starfire spoke. “Perhaps Tamaranian interrogation will convince them to speak.” She grabbed Gizmo from Cyborg’s iron grip. She then pushed the small criminal and, using her starbolts, welded him on the wall. (AN: Starfire’s culture reminds me of medieval Europe, thus the hanging on the wall) “Speak,” she yelled. But still none would talk. “That’s it, we’ve given them a chance to talk,” Robin said, “We’ll just figure it out.” “Good luck,” Gizmo snickered. “Could someone shut him up,” Robin said, upset. Raven obliged him, gagging him by wrapping a plate of metal around Gizmo’s mouth. “Thanks,” Robin said, “Raven, you, Beast Boy and Starfire take them to jail,” pointing to Mammoth, Jinx, and Gizmo. “What are you and Cyborg going to do,” Beast Boy asked. “We’re going to look for clues. Cyborg’s scanners can pick up trace clues,” Robin replied. “Lets get this over with,” Raven said. She opened a portal, which she, Beast Boy, and Starfire used to take their foes to prison.
