Ch. III hallway discussions
The sound of the door shutting behind him was forgotten as Wally looked out to space. Everything seemed to be going at just the right speed for him as he gazed. Nothing was complicated and torturing to live through. There were a couple of bright stars, over illuminating the horizon but they kinda looked like peep holes from heaven. A smirk almost crossed his lips but the deep voice sounded next to his ear.
“What are you looking at?”
Wally spun on his heels, the regular suit imprinted with the large “S” had been replaces for a workout hoodie and sweat pants. The thought about how long it actually took Clark exercises before it was a “work out” fluttered around Wally’s head but then left for another time.
“St- the stars.”
He had the terrifying impulse to pull his collar up; from where Clark stood he could easily look down and see the bruises sure to be there now. His hands vibrated against his jeans, causing the man of steel to glance away from the window. Wally kept his eyes adverted away in hopes that would deter any further conversation.
“Wally?”
‘Shit!’ Wally cursed mentally, looking back at his friend he saw the look, there was worry and hurt all mixed with a tiny touch of mother hen, the perfect recipe.
“What happened, your neck his almost all purple?”
Wally did adjust his collar this time. For fraction of a second his mind raced over all of the possible lies that would cover but they weren’t coming to him. The only thing that repeatedly entered his mind was the images of Luthor stalking toward him. A strong grasp on his arms brought him back to the present.
“It’s nothin’, their just from the last battle, ya know when…”
He tried to pass off, flashing an overly confident smile but the Boy Scout didn’t flinch or release Wally’s arm. He started to panic, it was too soon to tell him anything and Luthor had to much at stake right now to be even a little intimated by.
“No their not…”
It had been meant as a statement but Clark couldn’t be as threatening around Wally, it always felt like to much to burden the naïve hero with. So Clark used his strength to speak for him. Wally struggled against the hand to free himself, nothing worked.
“Please Clark, your hurting me.”
“Tell me the truth.”
Wally glared up, surprising the taller hero as silence fell for a few minutes.
“Please don’t ask that of me.”
“Wally, I only want to help you…”
Wally started to vibrate his hand slightly within Clark’s grip, the man of steel wanted to loosen his grip but it still remained. The younger hero was threatening to blow up his hand if he increased his speed.
“You can’t…”
He quickly pulled his wrist away as the man of steel was distracted. Before Clark blinked his eyes, Wally was gone. He looked back at the stone figure of his friend frozen in time, the fear in his stomach fought with the sorrow from what he had just done. He zoomed out of sight, hiding from all cameras, wishing to not be followed. But he was alone.
Very alone, and he hated it.
Clark looked to where his friend was, only to see an empty space and his hand clasped from the loss of wrist beneath. A sign escaped his lips; something was definitely not right with the speedster. The reporter took control of his superhero side, not allowing the issue to drop. He floated out of the hallway in search of green lantern. Surely he had to know what was happening Flash.
