Betty went to the hospital every day to see Reggie while he was there. She always showed up bearing a basket full of homemade goodies, which he adored. Betty pointedly ignored his admirers who were always present. When he went for various tests, she waited for him with several of his women-friends present, and she staunchly refused to leave when the ladies hinted, none too subtly, that she should go.
Reggie loved the fact that Betty would stay in spite of the others being there. He had to pretty much force them to leave, or to stop calling or coming to the hospital but they came anyway. He was exasperated because he wanted to be alone with her.
“You’ll have to leave us ladies. Betty and I have some very private business to discuss”, Reggie would tell them. They would leave, very reluctantly, shooting Reggie and Betty dirty looks as they slowly exited his room.
“I’ll be back later, baby,” a gorgeous redhead called out, while giving Betty an ugly look. Betty shook her head ‘no’ at her words. “That’s alright, hon. I’ve got this. Run along home,” while sneering at the beautiful woman and taking Reggie’s hand in hers. The redhead turned green in her anger.
Reggie soon stopped all visitors, except for his key staff, Betty, Jughead and Ethel. He also changed all of his phone numbers, only giving his private numbers to a select few. He had always separated his business contacts from pleasure, so that phone line was clear of all of his old flames.
Betty, Jughead and Ethel came to bring Reggie home from the hospital three days later. “Reggie, you really do have a hard head.” Dr. Laurie Graham told him. “Anyone else who had taken a fall like that would have broJughead their skull.” Reggie looked sheepish and tried not to blush. He knew he fell on purpose, and truly wanted no praise for his skills in falling.
“Hey doc, you know me. I was an athlete, so I know how to fall. You could say I fell for Miss Cooper here.” Betty snorted at his remark, glaring at the doctor as she signed his cast. The cast was completely covered with signatures.
Dr. Graham ‘knew’ Reggie Mantle, in the biblical sense, like all the other hangers on did. The good doctor gave Betty a look of utter hatred, causing Betty to smirk at her, pretty much the same way Reggie had smirked at Greg.
When Reggie was discharged from the hospital, there was a mob outside and many pictures were taken of them all. Betty volunteered to help take care of the invalid. Reggie could have hired nurses and he had a staff of four servants at his home, or let one of his many willing female friends come over to help out, but to his delight, Betty would not hear of it.
“What are friends for? I’ll take care of you and help you get rid of those creatures, if you want, that is,” she informed him. Reggie jumped at her offer. They all decided that Reggie would be rotating his time between Ethel’s place and his. They did not want him to recuperate alone with just servants in attendance. Betty would stay at his penthouse to be near him if he needed something when he was at his home.
“Mom and Dad, Betty has graciously offered to be my nurse, so please don’t come yet. She may not stay if she knows you’re both here. We need this time to get reacquainted. You do understand?” Reggie’s parents wanted to come, but he didn’t want them to come, not just yet.
“Of course, my son, I understand. Let us know when you want us to come. You know we’ll be there.” Vicky Mantle was happy about how things were going with Betty taking
care of Reggie, though she had never known her son to trip and fall in his life. She smiled to herself, as an idea came to her. “Why, that tricky boy!” Vicky Mantle chuckled to herself. “That’s my boy! You go get your girl!” Richard Mantle was just as happy as his wife.0-0-0 Pixie, the Yorkie, was at the penthouse, waiting for Reggie when he arrived, but as soon as she saw Betty, she was instantly Betty’s pup. Betty was happy to see her and scooped her up in her arms. She looked at Reggie with a raised eyebrow.“What? I couldn’t take her back to the pet shop, Betty. “Please take her before she ruins my reputation. I can’t be seen with a dog like that and I know they laugh at me when I take her out. She always insists I carry her. It’s embarrassing.” Reggie had laughed.
“Aw, poor little baby. I will take her, Reggie. Thanks for getting her for me. Pixie, huh? What a cute name for a cute little girl. Come here baby girl,” she laughed as the little dog kissed her face.
The next day, when Jughead and Ethel returned home from a day of visiting Reggie and Betty, they encountered in the lobby a very angry young pacing back and forth. Both Ethel and Jughead gasped when they saw him.
It was Archie Andrews. Archie was furious when he saw Jughead and Ethel arrive home without Betty. “Where is she?” he bellowed. Jughead gave him a warning look.
“Watch yourself Archie. Let’s not have a scene here in the lobby. Who are you talking about?”
“You know who I mean Jughead! My wife! Where the fuck is she? I know she’s here, because I saw her in the papers! Some friends you both are! Where is she? I want to see her!” When Jughead and Ethel didn’t answer, Archie became almost rabid.
“Right now!” Archie bellowed while trying his best not to hit Jughead at that moment.
“Archie, I’m warning you! Ethel is my fiancée and I won’t let you talk to her that way! Betty is not here right now. She’s away on business. So go home! I’ll have her call you when she returns.” Jughead put his arm around Ethel’s shoulder and started to walk away. Archie grabbed his arm.
“Oh you don’t get away with this so easily, Jones! I’ll wait here for her to come home.” Jughead threw his arm off and swung around to face Archie, struggling not to hit him.
“You can wait all you want, but you won’t wait here! You’re not welcome in my home, Archie. Now leave before I call the cops.” Ethel lost her patience with Archie. She took Jughead’s arm and they left Archie standing there in the lobby with his mouth open with amazement. Archie was soon escorted out of the building by the doorman.
While Archie searched for a hotel, he was angry because Ethel and Jughead had not invited him to stay with them. Never mind that he had been rude to them.
He continued irritating and harassing them by calling and showing up at different times to see if he could catch Betty at home.
Jughead called Reggie and told him Archie was around, and suggesting he and Betty not to come to Ethel’s townhouse anytime soon. They would visit Reggie at his home. Betty didn’t care if she didn’t go home because she was having such a great time at Reggie’s place. Betty cooked for Reggie, for which he was overjoyed because he always enjoyed her cooking. Betty cooked better than any high priced chef, including Jughead.
Reggie accompanied Betty when she took Pixie for walks. He would be sometimes on crutches, sometimes in a rented motorized wheelchair. They both enjoyed the gawks they received from passersby whom recognized them from the papers and magazines. They were in the news a lot. Reggie had hired bodyguards whom he ordered to stay a discreet distance, for Betty’s protection. She was unaware of this, however.
They played board and video games in which Betty beat Reggie: backgammon, checkers and Chess, Monopoly, Street Fighter and Mortal Combat, Black OPs, Final Fantasy, to name a few.
“Hey Betty, give a guy a break, will ya!” he exclaimed as she giggled at him, and continued to beat him relentlessly at checkers.
He loved being alone with her and sent his staff on an extended paid vacation. “I won’t need you all for a while. Take a month’s vacation on me. Have some fun.” They all reluctantly left. Reggie’s people were loyal to him mainly because he paid and treated them very well.
“Are you going to be alright without us, sir?” Higgins, his butler asked. “Will I have a job when I return, Mr. Reggie?”
“Of course, Higgins, I’m only giving you a week off, as I’ll need you here to help Betty while I heal. Of course you’ll be compensated for your vacation being shorter than the others. I just have a lot of catching up to do with my friend here.” Betty blushed at his words. Higgins kept his face impassive and reluctantly left for his vacation.
Betty and Reggie acted as they did when they were teens. They joked and horsed around, much like they did when they were younger. They even had a food fight in the kitchen after all of Reggie’s staff had left. The difference this time around was that there was extreme sexual tension. Though Reggie never said or did anything less than gentlemanly, his eyes always gave him away. Reggie’s eyes had a way of burning into Betty, leaving her flushed and hot all over.
Betty had to admit to herself she enjoyed the glimpses of his body when she helped him get ready for bed. Betty had to take many cold showers after she saw glimpses of his six-pack abs, muscular biceps, pectorals and buttocks. It was more than any woman could take. Betty had actually found herself drooling one time after she helped him wrap his cast so he could shower, seeing the outline of his penis under the towel. He wore a towel and was always covered, but her imagination ran wild. She had felt his erection before. She longed to touch it. She became aroused when she saw his eyes light up like stars as he gazed at her. Betty basked and blossomed in his admiration.
He moaned every time the doorman called to inform him there was a female downstairs with a ‘care’ package. She laughed at his ‘woman troubles.’ “It serves you right. You’re still a complete jerk, Reggie! How do you keep up with all of them?”
“It’s easy, babe. I date them two or three at a time!” She threw a pillow at him. Reggie’s continuous army of women kept coming to his penthouse, and was the cause of a lot of teasing from Betty. Betty turned out to be his protector from all of those women and seemed to forget about Greg.
“Hey, if you want me all to yourself babe, remember you were going to help me get rid of them.” Betty rolled her eyes at him, truly exasperated. “Okay, if you insist, Mantle.”
She was only too happy to turn them away though, either at his door or in the lobby. It was ridiculous how they chased him. Betty was very eager to help him get rid of the hordes of women. Reggie let them all think Betty was his woman and she was his exclusively. Betty played the part of his lady love very well.
Reggie kept in constant touch with Jackson, his club manager, by phone, instead of in person. Reggie had never
done this before, in the eight years Jackson had worked for him. Jack worried about the crowds of people who usually came by the clubs, looking for Reggie to perform. They frequently inquired about Reggie and demanded his presence.“Boss, the Raiders just signed a big contract with Sony records, thanks to you and we need you here. Everyone’s been asking for you.”
“Hire more acts. Have an audition and make it a big show, the winner replaces the Raiders. You take care of it. I have confidence in you. Look, Jack, the clubs can run without me there all of the time. I’ll be spending less and less time at them. Hire help if you need it. I have some very important things to attend to.” Reggie had to have time for courting Betty. Reggie also ran his other enterprises from his home, or his company officers came to him. They were all amazed at this development. The old Reggie would have gone to his many offices in a wheelchair and would have never stayed home. Ethel and Jughead looked knowingly at each other. They took note that they were right; these two belonged together.
While he was still convalescing, Reggie wrote an article for Player’s Magazine, called,
The Dove There is a very special young woman that I’ve known all of my life. It’s hard to put into words her character, but I can start by describing the characteristics and qualities of the dove. The dove is a symbol of peace and has been since antiquity. Doves enjoy being in environments where they can be of service to others, and can provide the love and friendship that they are most widely known for and represents. This describes Betty Cooper, also known as Ann Avery. She had to change her name because she wanted to be in the background, letting her best friend, Ethel Muggs, have all of the limelight. But those of us, who know and love her, refuse to let Betty Cooper stay in the background. She is like a work of art and needs to be seen. She is a kindred soul, who will never give up on a person, no matter what the cost is to her. She would sacrifice herself to save a person in need. Betty is an example for us all to follow. Her designs show her passion to her art. She is a very special person. She is a beauty, inside and out. She is an angel right here on earth. She is my dove and the essence of my life. She is my heart and my soul. She is my love. For now and always.Written ByReginald R. Mantle IV
Player’s Magazine Editor-In-Chief
“Reggie, my son, that article was fantastic!” Ricky Mantle was surprised by how his son had summed up Betty so eloquently. Betty was an angel. She had saved his son’s soul; therefore, she had saved the whole Mantle family. People Magazine Headlines: THE WOLF LOVES A DOVE! HAS OUR VERY OWN REGGIE MANTLE GIVEN UP HIS PLAYER’S CARD? HE’S LEAVING A MULTITUDE OF BROJUGHEAD HEARTS BEHIND! “Reggie, I read your article. I’m touched you think of me that way. I didn’t know you were such a romantic.” Betty did not comment on his loving her and would not tell anyone about her deepest feelings about him until her divorce was final. But she did reach out to stroke his hair. She also had cut out the article and framed it. Tears flowed when she read it. No one had ever cared for her like that, ever.“It’s true, babe. I do feel that way about you. I always have.” He gave her hand a squeeze and she felt a tingling down to her toes. They shared a little kiss.
She didn’t deny she has feelings for me, he thought. It gave him hope as they quickly pulled away from each other. He did not want to claim her while she was married to Archie. When they got together, Betty would be a free woman.
There were dozens of pictures of Reggie and Betty taken together in the media, looking like a couple, though they both vehemently denied this. “We’re just very good friends”, was all either of them would say. Betty was still married, even if it was in name only. Reggie’s many women finally, backed off, hating him and Betty in the process. The visits from most of his lady loves died down a trickle after six weeks of Betty answering his door, being seen with him everywhere he went, or just demanding they stay away, or else.
The number of women Reggie had dated was legion. Betty once over heard him calling and cancelling his membership at a place called ‘The Pandora’s Box.’ I don’t even want to know what kind of place that is, she thought. She inexplicably felt relieved that he had cancelled his membership there.
One day, when Reggie, Betty, and Pixie were going out for a picnic in Long Island, they found one of his fancy cars badly damaged. Someone had smashed out the side windows, flattened the tires and had spray painted in red, on the
windshield and side of the car, ‘Dog Shit!!’ and ‘Go Fuck yourself and Betty, too!’
“Oh… shit!” They both said this at the same time with Pixie barking at the messy car. Reggie sighed when he saw his destroyed silver Ferrari California convertible. They went back inside to have the doorman call his limo. And to call a tow truck for his damaged vehicle. Reggie was getting very sick of these women- he knew one of them had something to do with this. He also arranged to move his remaining cars to another garage with armed security guards. Only those very close to him would know where these cars were kept.
0-0-0 While Betty and Reggie played together, Archie was still waiting for her to return from her ‘business trip’. He came over to Ethel’s penthouse every day for two weeks. If no one was at home, he waited outside Ethel’s building: he couldn’t go inside because all of the doormen had been instructed to refuse him entry and been threatened with arrest for trespassing. The private detectives that Archie hired were not being honest with him when they told Archie that they could not get close to Betty. Archie did not want to go to Reggie’s penthouse out of fear of Reggie’s fists or the fact that Reggie would have him arrested. So Archie decided to wait for Betty to return to Ethel’s place. After two weeks, Archie had to leave because he had to prepare for the rest of his upcoming tour and could not postpone it any longer.“I’ll be back, you two! She still with Mantle, isn’t she? No one goes away on business for two weeks straight! Besides, I read the newspapers!” He was really getting on Jughead’s nerves. Ethel refused to speak to him at all. She let Jughead handle his friend.
“Make sure Betty’s here when I return! She‘s still my wife and she’s coming home! You two had better not interfere either!” Archie looked very threatening when he said this. The detectives he hired would let him know when they found her.
“Archie, I’m warning you! Why don’t you leave her alone? She doesn’t want you anymore!” Jughead glared at him, his big fists clenching, itching to strike him.
“You blew it, man! Get over it!” cried Ethel. She had come running when she heard Jughead’s raised voice.
“I can’t leave her alone because I love her! I won’t believe she doesn’t want to work it out with me. She loves me. If you two would have minded your own fucking business, she would have come home long ago!” With that, he turned and stomped off, slamming the door as he left.
This is not over! Not by a long shot! If I find out she’s been with Mantle…! Archie left New York with a lot of hatred in his heart for Jughead, Ethel and especially Reggie at that moment. Jughead and Ethel were affronted by the insolence Archie had shown.
“I hope they’re fucking their brains out right his very moment!” Ethel said with a wicked laugh at the thought and Jughead agreed with her wholeheartedly.
Since Jughead had previously called Reggie to let him know Archie was around, Reggie made sure Betty stayed with him during that time. Reggie arranged for his hired detectives to pay the private investigators that Archie hired more money than Archie paid them. They were not to tell Archie where Betty was and they kept Betty’s whereabouts a secret from Archie as long as they could.
0-0-0 “Betty, do you think there could be anything more than friendship between us?” Reggie ventured to ask her one day, because being near her was driving him crazy. At the blank look on her face, he quickly added, “I want no secrets between us, so if I’m out of line, tell me.” He had to know how she felt about him, just a little hint.
“You are out of line, Mantle. I won’t answer that question while I’m still legally married to Archie because I want no misunderstandings from anyone until I’m free. But I do have something to show you.”
Betty brought several of her scrapbooks with her, so she went into her room to get two of the oldest ones. When she showed them to Reggie, he turned brick red.
“God Betty. I… I’m so ashamed…” as he saw the countless photographs of him with different women.
“I can’t believe you’re speechless Mantle. And are you blushing? Does this kind of answer your question? I didn’t know why I’ve kept track of you all of this time but I guess I know now.”
As she kissed him on his cheek, he pulled her close to his body and gave her a searing kiss on her lips. “Before I go take a cold shower, I just want you to know that when the time comes, Mantle, I’m gonna rock your world,” she whispered, wanting to do more than just kiss him.
“Promise, babe? Uh, Betty, I also have a confession to make. I, ah, sort of, ah, fell on purpose. I couldn’t stand you being mad at me any longer and had to do something to make you stop hating me. Please don’t be mad at me.”
He held his breath. Will she forgive me for pulling such a lousy stunt?
“I know you did, Mantle. I’ve never known you to be a klutz. But I love you for it. How could I be angry at a guy who would literally fall for me?” She turned and walked out, leaving him with his mouth open in amazement, before he laughed out loud. He could never fool Betty.
“Damn! Betty kept track of me all of these years. Damn!” He was a very happy man.
0-0-0 Reggie’s cast came off a few days later. Betty stayed with him for four fantastic weeks and they hated for their time together to end. Reggie was back in action after six weeks and went to the gym daily to get the ankle back to one hundred per cent. He had a lot of things to catch up on at his offices and reluctantly let Betty go home. He knew Archie was on tour, and Ethel and Jughead would help keep her safe.“Talk to you later, babe,” he kissed her nose as they parted and waited until she entered the building. As soon as she opened the door to the penthouse, Ethel called out to her.
“Archie was here Betty and I know he’ll be back! He was here every day for two weeks. We didn’t want to disturb you and Reggie. Archie’s gone stone cold nuts. Please don’t go anywhere by yourself. I think he’s dangerous and I’m worried.” Jughead was still angry at Archie’s stubbornness about letting Betty go. “I can’t believe I ever called that guy my friend all of these years. I should have been a better friend to you than I was, Betty,” Jughead added, taking her hand in his.
“You have always been a good friend Jughead. I was the stupid one for thinking Archie was so special. I’m done with him. Well, I’m not afraid of him and I feel safe with you all around me. My lawyer said I have six more weeks, and we can go to divorce court. I can’t wait for that day to come.” She gave his hand a squeeze to reassure him.
“Neither can we Betty.” Jughead could not help being afraid as he hugged Betty. He hoped they would be able to protect her from Archie.
0-0-0
When they couldn’t be together, Reggie and Betty spoke on the phone as often as possible.“I feel so lost without you, babe,” Reggie would say, causing her to tingle all over.
“Reggie, I miss you too. I feel as if I belong to you. Please take care. Archie’s been around, I hear.”
“Babe, you know Archie- boy never scared me. He had better leave you alone. I hired some body guards to protect you.”
“Don’t worry about me, Reg. I won’t let Archie run my life. Not anymore. I don’t need bodyguards and I won’t live in fear.” Betty was appalled at Archie’s behavior.
What could I do to make him let me go? Hmm. Maybe it’s time I made a few calls to Riverdale. Betty had an idea. She called a few friends she had not spoJughead to in Riverdale, including Veronica Lodge, who cried when she heard her voice. Betty got the number she sought from Veronica.
“Don’t be a stranger Betty. I’ve missed you.” They talked a little longer, crying as they hung up and happy to be friends again. Betty dialed another number, nervously letting the phone ring. Picking up the phone on the other line, Cheryl Blossom was surprised to hear Betty’s voice.
“Cheryl, I want to get straight to the point. I got your phone number from Veronica. I know you’re wondering why I’m calling you. First of all, I no longer want Archie, and I need your help.”
“I get it: You have bigger fish to fry. I saw you with Reggie in the papers. But why should I help you and what’s in it for me?” Cheryl asked, trying to get over the shock of Betty calling her for help.
“You want Archie, don’t you?”
“I’m not sure if I do. Reggie Mantle is single and Archie isn’t. Reggie is richer and much more handsome and sexier than Archie. I may let you have Archie back.” Cheryl’s voice grated on Betty’s nerves. “Why you little bitch! Can’t you get a man of your own? Why do you always want my men? Well, not this man! Reggie’s mine!” Cheryl and Betty were both amazed at Betty’s words and passion. Betty realized she must really love Reggie because she did not fight for Archie one bit.
“Well, the little kitten is turning into a tigress! Reggie must have really laid one on you! Do you know I slept with him when we were in high school?” Cheryl laughed at the memory, though she refrained to mention how he called Betty’s name when they last did it. “He was something else, even so many years ago.”
“Well, he’s much better in bed now.” Betty lied. “And I’m the only one for him now.” She really hated Cheryl Blossom. Cheryl was amused at Betty’s jealousy. “You must really be crazy about Mantle to ask me for help.”
“Yes, I am. So here’s what I need you to do….” Betty laid out her plans for Cheryl.
“I love it! I didn’t know you had it in you Betty. Alright, I’ll help you. And I want to apologize that I slept with your husband.” It seemed that Betty had developed a lot of spunk since going to New York and Cheryl had a new-found respect for Betty.
“Thanks Cheryl. I guess I should thank you. Because of you, I finally left Archie and now I have someone who really loves me. That’s the best thing that could have happened to me. And I’ll tear your hair out if you come near Reggie.”
“You don’t have to worry. I’m not looking for you to ruin my pretty face.” They hung up laughing, their plan going into action at that moment.

Reggie made himself available during the dozens of photo shoots that Betty had to go to, whether he was in the photos or not. His presence gave her confidence and she took amazing pictures.
Reggie and Jughead accompanied Ethel and Betty when they had to go on short trips to Milan, London and Paris for fabrics and more photo shoots. They also took this time for a little fun and frolic. They were all having a great time, though they worked very hard as well. By day they saw all the tourist attractions– the Eiffel Tower, London Bridge, La Scala Opera House in Milan. By night they played at- Akab Nightclub in Rome, Lido de-Paris, and the exclusive Vertigo 42 in London. The four of them became closer in their friendships during these trips.
When they returned from London, Reggie showed up at one of the classes Betty taught at the local college. The students went wild when he arrived, even the older students. “We never thought we’d get to meet the Wolf, Betty!” Olivia, a cute red haired girl of twenty gushed, “He’s so beautiful!” Reggie was delightful to them all, answering their questions about modeling and music. Some of the older students asked about how he handled so many women.
“I’m not proud of that. It’s not good to play with someone’s emotions like that. Don’t be like me, and stay away from guys like me.”
“Are you and Betty a couple?” Reggie was vague answering those types of questions.
“I confess my womanizing days are a thing of the past because I love Betty. We’ve been dear friends for most of our lives. But Betty has a husband.” The class moaned at that. He would wink at Betty, causing her to blush. Reggie gave her a look that said, I can’t wait for the day when I can see if you blush all over. Betty seemed to read his thoughts and turned an even deeper shade of pink. Reggie smirked at her to show her that he read her mind.
Reggie would let the class sketch him so they could complete an assignment Betty had given them. Some just wanted his picture and autograph. Reggie loved the attention, causing Betty to shake her head at hm. That was her Reggie. He definitely was unchanged. She thanked God that he was the same loveable rouge she had always known.
Betty was still going out occasionally with Greg, just to cool her and Reggie off. Reggie raged to Jughead and Ethel when she did this. They both assured him it was innocent, informing him that Betty always came home early. Reggie couldn’t stand the thought of Betty going out with anyone else, innocent or not, so he decided to introduce Greg to a bevy of beauties to take his attentions away from Betty. Greg soon had more dates then he could handle. He was grateful to Reggie and learned to like him. Reggie was glad to be friends with Greg, now that he was no longer going out with Betty and not considered a threat.
0-0-0 One Saturday night a few weeks later, Reggie called Betty, “Hi babe. Get all dolled up. I’m taking you to see the play, ‘Take Me, I’m Yours,’ and we’ll go to the club later for dinner. I have to play with The Raiders tonight. I’m doing a few more performances, and then I’m retiring from the stage.” Reggie had box seats at the theatre where the popular play was performed.“Won’t you miss all of that adoration from your fans, Reggie?” Betty asked, thrilled to death at his declaration.
“Nope, just as long as you admire me, babe,” he hung up laughing with happiness, feeling fulfilled and eager to start his life with her.
Betty happily did as he commanded. She decided to wear one of her newest, fanciest creations- a sparkling silver, sequined mini dress. It was cut very low in the back and she complimented the outfit with four inch high strappy black and silver sandals. She wore her hair in flowing finger curls just the way Reggie liked it. The doorbell rang and Betty hurried to get the door, putting on a diamond and sapphire bracelet Reggie had given her the night before. She swung open the door, saying,
“Hi sweetie, you’re early….” she stopped and stared. It wasn’t Reggie standing there. It was Archie Andrews. He managed to slip past the new doorman. “Archie! What the fuck are you doing here!?” Archie was taken aback at the sight of Betty. She looked dazzling. He had never seen her look so wonderful.
“Who were you expecting? Mantle? God! Baby, you look… so…fucking beautiful!” Archie was reaching for her as he spoke, gently pushing his way into the apartment.
“We have to talk baby. I’ve really missed you! I saw your pictures in all of the papers and magazines in Riverdale. It seems like you’re constantly with Mantle. But that’s all over. You made your point. I’m jealous. Let’s go home, sweetness.” Archie was chuckling as he pulled her closer. Betty just stared at him. Ethel and Jughead had come out of their bedroom when they heard Betty’s raised voice.
“It took me all of this time to find you. No one would tell me where you were. I should have guessed you were here, though.” Archie shot the two offenders a very dirty look, which said ‘I’ll deal with you two later. And it was not going to be nice…’ Ethel rolled her eyes at him.
“I’ve been going crazy without you, baby! God you look stunning! Where are you going all dressed up and who were you calling ‘sweetie’?” Archie rasped, ulling her closer. She looked like a goddess. He was shaking in his desire for her.
“It’s none of your damn business what I do! And what should we talk about, Archie? About why you cheated on me so much? Why we drifted apart? Why you married me? What? I don’t love you anymore Archie. Go back to Cheryl. I want a divorce. Please sign the papers!”
Betty saw the threatening way Archie was looking at her friends as she spoke, and it angered her even more.
“I asked everyone to keep my whereabouts from you. So don’t blame them! And don’t touch me!”
Betty tried to wrench her arm from his grasp, but Archie wouldn’t let her go. Betty kept pushing him away, causing Jughead to move closer to them. “Betty, I’ll admit I wasn’t a good husband, but I learned my lesson. I don’t want Cheryl anymore. That was a huge mistake; I just went a little crazy because we lost the baby. Let’s have another baby, Betty. Please, let me show you how I’ve changed. I love you, baby.” He pulled her close to him again and tried to bury his head in her neck.
“Don’t you blame your behavior on my miscarriage! How dare you?” Betty exclaimed, pushing him away from her as hard as she could. She could not believe his nerve. He was the same old Archie, who always wanted her the most when she tried to get away from him. Plus he had to leave before Reggie arrived. The shit would hit the fan if Reggie showed up now. “Archie, I need you to go. Now! Let’s talk somewhere tomorrow.”
“No! We talk now! Why can’t we work this out? I wanna stay married. Come here, I have to hold you. I need you, sweetheart.” Archie knew he looked good and had no doubt he could convince her to come back to him. He let his hair grow longer and had a diamond stud earring in his ear, which gave him a sexy and dangerous look. Trying to be like Reggie, Betty thought. He thinks he’s so hot, but Reggie looks so much better, she thought nastily. What did I ever see in this guy? she wondered, feeling nauseated by his touch.
“Look Archie…!” Jughead began.
“Jughead, shut the fuck up! I thought you were my friend! I don’t want to hear anything you have to say right now. You fucking betrayed me, you shit! You and Ethel have been keeping my wife from me! Fuck off!” Then Archie looked at Betty again, checking her out. He could not miss the huge diamond and sapphire bracelet and matching earrings she wore. He knew where she got such expensive jewelry from.
“And you, Betty. You went straight to Mantle, didn’t you? Did he give you that jewelry you’re wearing? Did you fuck him for them?”
Slaappp! That was the sound of Betty’s right hand connecting with Archie’s face before he said anything else.
“Fuck you, Archie! It’s none of your business what I do! How dare you even speak his name!” she screamed at him.
“So, I was right! You came here to be with him and you’re fucking him, aren’t you? You slut!” he yelled as he shook her. Betty hit Archie again and again, making Jughead and Ethel cry out in anger and race to her rescue. Before her friends could reach her however, Betty rewarded Archie with several very fast, very hard and very painful knee kicks to his groin. “Take that you fuck! I’ve had enough of your bullshit!! So what if I fuck Reggie!” she shouted as she struck him.
“Ahhh, God!!!” Archie managed to squeak out as he fell like a sack of potatoes, mouth now open in a silent scream, both hands clenching his crotch. All of this happened so fast, no one saw it coming. It seemed that Betty had put the many years of frustration, pain, and anger behind those blows.
“Archie, if you keep coming around me, I’ll do this again. And if you don’t sign the divorce papers, I’m ripping your tiny little dick right off! I’ll say it again. Stay away from us!”
The look on Jughead and Ethel’s faces was priceless. As they stared openmouthed at the writhing figure on the floor, they were struggling very hard not to laugh at Archie’s agony. It didn’t work. “That a girl, Betty!” Ethel was roaring with laughter as she complimented her friend. Ethel and Jughead gave Betty high fives, though Jughead did wince in sympathy for Archie.
That had to hurt. Betty was fantastic! Archie deserved it, big time. Just glad it wasn’t me.
Jughead and Ethel helped put a whimpering Archie into Ethel’s limo, while Betty checked her hair and makeup. Jughead instructed the driver to take Archie to his hotel, and then help Archie inside the hotel, if needed. Archie’s crotch area should stop hurting by then. Reggie arrived shortly after Archie was put into the limo and heard what he missed, causing him to laugh until he cried. They all celebrated with several bottles of Crystal champagne. Reggie actually got drunk this time. He hadn’t been able to get seriously drunk for almost eleven years. He held on to Betty’s hand the whole time, occasionally bringing it to his lips, causing her to feel giddy every time his lips caressed her hand.
“Betty, do you realize that you’re truly free? You stood up to that devil and won, all the while looking kick ass gorgeous.” Reggie said, beaming proudly at her. Betty nodded at his words, too happy to speak. They were all so delighted with Betty. She confronted Archie and won. Betty was glad she was able to defy Archie and that she did not love him anymore. She felt great though she wished she had done this a long time ago.
Reggie called the club and cancelled his appearance with the band, neither of them wanting to go out any longer. They all laughed and talked into the wee hours of the morning, ordering Greek take-out. By five in the morning, they all helped a very drunk Reggie into bed in Betty’s room, leaving the door open. Reggie looked like a little boy, causing a loving smile to cross her face as she kissed his forehead, and covered him with a comforter. She lay on the bed next to him and took him in her arms with him holding on to her hand for dear life, even in his sleep. She drifted off to sleep, snuggling more comfortably in Reggie’s arms, when Reggie cried out in his sleep:
“Betty, please don’t leave me!” She pulled him closer, holding him as tight as she could.
“I’m here, Reggie. I’m not going anywhere, sweetie.” Reggie did not wake up, but at her words he sighed and quieted down, his arms holding her close, even as he slumbered. Ethel and Jughead looked in on them before they went to their own bedroom. They hugged each other at the sight of the beautiful picture the two made. And for once there would be no cameras around to take their pictures.
They carefully closed the door on them, and happily went to their own bedroom.
