Chapter 2:
The shower dial was as far to the right as it could be. The water felt numb to his skin, not cold enough. He still felt the stains and scars Slade had left on him. Sinking deep into his skin. Robin felt as though he would collapse, as though he would faint. But he felt like thinking too, he felt confused. His voice was almost gone, his throat was sore, his arms and legs were shaking, his head felt so heavy. With sleep deprivation and thought.
He sank to the tiles of the shower, where he saw small pink swirls from the deep wounds Slade had placed all over his body. Marks of ownership. Suddenly Robin had this overwhelming fear in him, regret, humiliation. At first he felt at sort of satisfaction, accompanied of course by foreboding, but now he felt even worse. He was used to it however. After all, it wasn’t the first time. He wrapped his arms around his knees, wresting his head in the pit of his elbow. He stared off into the tiles running up the wall, and remained there long after his fingers had wrinkled, and his eyes fell shut each second with sleep in them.
He awoke to knocking on is bedroom door. “Hey Robin, you awake?” he didn’t answer, but continued to listen to the mechanical clank on his door as Cyborg’s knuckles continued to attempt to rouse. “hey Robin, come on! Raven wants to have a meeting.”
Sitting up suddenly, he shouted “I’ll be right there!” he didn’t know what she was playing at. Surly she wouldn’t tell the others. Maybe she didn’t feel he was fit to be their leader any more. That couldn’t be it. She wouldn’t think something like that!
He emerged cautiously, preparing himself for the worst. Cyborg and Beastboy were arguing over breakfast again, while Starfire attempted to unsuccessfully fit in her “beginning of a new day” dish. Robin sat down on the couch as Raven emerged from her wing of the tower. She greeted him as usual, a small glance and then stood in front of their entertainment area, which now hosted a chair and several wires hooked up to the modem which took up almost the entire wall.
“Eh hem!” she said loudly over the noise behind the couch. The others stopped almost immediately, and quickly took their seats next to Robin. “We obviously all know that Slade is alive and well.” She stated, and at these words Robin formed a large lump in his throat which would not go down. “So I feel it is necessary for us all to undergo scans weekly.” Suddenly the lump had subsided. “It would ensure that none of us have become influenced in any biological way.” She stepped closer to the chair and turned toward Robin. “As a precaution.”
That day began by each of them taking turns being hooked up to wires, scanned, and released. Beast boy learned he had worms and quickly retreated to his room, while the others gathered around the table for breakfast, which turned out to be Cyborg’s chocolate chip waffles after all. The day continued on as normal as any day. Abra Cadabra had shown up in the north side of the city, and the titans made their way past the arena which was being turned into an enormous moth den. Splitting up they ended the day’s labor by dinner.
Robin played a game of volley ball with the others before retreating to the edge of the tower. Looking over the horizon he found it stayed in view even with his eyelids closed over his eyes. He felt the breeze against his face as the waves below crashed upon the rocks. Would he visit Slade again? Tonight? He wanted it so badly. Indeed what Slade had said was true. What he feared might happen was true. It wouldn’t end.
“Hey Robin! How ‘bout a little one on one?” Beastboy ran up behind him slapping his hand hard on Robin’s back, nearly forcing him from the edge of the tower.
Robin stood, whipping the small loose gravel from his cape. He stared out at the horizon a bit longer, trying to decide on the evenings events.
Starfire floated up next to the two of them, small and timid, “I have been pondering for a time now and I propose an outing of the party-ing and the dancing. Perhaps the club which my sister took us too would do.” Growing slightly larger she clenched her fist and opened her razor filled mouth, “Only this time, that narglarf will not be there to betray us or leave us in the trash container located out side the club!”
“I think that would give us time to wind down.” Raven had walked up next to Starfire, placing the ball in Beastboys hands. “We never really sat back to relax or have any fun since my fathers little visit.”
“Hey you’re right! We’ve been so busy cleaning everything up and catching escapees. I could go for some good hardcore partying!” Cyborg grabbed the ball from Beastboy’s hands and chucked it at the basket mounted on the wall.
Beastboy jumped up and down excitedly “I could go for some ass grabbing!”
Raven dropped her head to her chest, “What ever you do… make sure it’s legal… we wanna have fun…” She looked over at Robin who was still gazing at the fading light. “How ‘bout it Robin? Are you gonna join us?”
“Oh please friend!” Starfire flew around to face him, hovering off the edge, her eyes wide with sparkles.
`He looked at her, smiling slightly. Putting one hand on her shoulder, “Why not! I could do for an up beat scene!”
They all headed out towards the town, Cyborg making sure his security system was all good to go. The night had faded by the time they reached the mainland, the streets were flooded with insomniacs. Cars sped off down towards the racing ways, and peole stood on street corners meeting friends or clients.
They walked into a hot smoky scene, with blinding strobe lights, pounding bass, bodies here and there throwing themselves from one side to another. The whole structure shook with the rhythm of the music and the people all over the place thrashing and stomping. The bar was covered by neon lights and empty glasses and straws. Behind the bar towered tall bottles with skinny necks, green, clear, blue, pink, red. Robin spotted the Bacardi Limon he first experienced a hang over with.
Beastboy tugged on Robin’s cape nodding his head in the direction of the bar. “To bad everyone knows what we look like! I wish I were just a regular shape shifter!” Suddenly he lunged forward off towards the couches at the far end of the club. Each enormous couch had at least three girls on them decked out in little tiny strips and chains covering the revealing Japanese fashion that clung tightly to their little frames. There bodies hot and sweaty, some of them massaging others. The outfits and the couches glowed under the black lights which hung over head. Robin spotted Beastboy heading for one of the couches as he slipped into a sleek feline form.
Raven spun around to the tap at her back. She came face to face with a pale boy in black clothing, his hair falling to one side of his face. “Remember me? ‘Everything is pointless.’”
Raven’s eyes widened suddenly and she opened her mouth to speak but shut it quickly as Starfire walked up beside her, glaring at the pale boy. “You must have the wrong girl in shrouded blue!” She said triumphantly grabbing Raven’s hand and placing it around her shoulder.
“Actually… I don’t… but that’s ok. I’m not interested in her…”
“Oh! Forgive me! I did not mean to sound like a Bignawfing Shnarlcack! I…”
“It’s fine! I understand. I was just saying hi.”
Raven reached her hand out sideways, and he took it shaking it firmly, smiling at each other. He gave Starfire a soft pat on the back. “You should’ve been here three weeks ago, you missed a great party! My father came and brought some hell!”
“Actually I heard a little about it in some conspiracy paper, but no one ever pays any attention to those things, so I didn’t look into it much. I’m here to talk to your buddy here, and maybe steel a dance or two.”
They both looked at him then followed his gaze to Robin, who looked just as surprised.
“Me?”
“Yeah, why not. The Famous Boy Wonder!” He waved at Raven and Starfire as they walked off towards the dance floor quickly leaving Robin to fend for himself. He saw Raven looking back at him with a smile. “How ‘bout over there?” he said pointing to a half a dozen large cushioned chairs under one low lit light.
“Uh, sure.” Robin followed him over to the chairs looking around for Cyborg who already found two girls to dance with and was showing off his break dancing in the middle of the dance floor. The chairs were softer than they look as he slowly sank into to one, almost disappearing completely. The guy sat in one opposite him, dragging it closer a little for better hearing. “So… you and Raven…”
“We met the last time you guys came here. She’s cool but she has this really deep sense of life that you have to dig a lot to find.”
“That may have changed…” Robin looked over at Raven and Starfire on the dance floor, grinding away, hands all over each other.
“Was it cause of that thing that happened three weeks ago?”
“Yeah, it changed her. For the best in my opinion. I mean there was nothing wrong with her before then.”
“But she loosened up or something?”
“Yeah. So what about you? What’s your name? Why did you want to talk to me?”
“Oh! I’m Keidan, and it’s that celebrity thing. You just have to see how human they really are.”
“I’m human alright, but the other’s maybe with the exception of Cyborg are…”
“Unique? I like unique. I don’t like to be like everyone else. That’ why I like you.”
“I’m unique?”
“Oh come on! How many human’s do you know that can keep up with unordinary strength like that? You’re almost better than they if not overpowering.”
“I trained a lot, that’s all, and with the best.”
“So did I! But you don’t see me signing up with the Justice League right?”
Robin laughed played with a loose button on the arm of the comfy chair. The music still pulsing in his chest. “So you know martial arts?”
“Yeah, and I’m pretty good too.” He turned his head to the side looking at Robin out of one eye, his hair falling over the other.
“Oh really?” said Robin, I wide grin spreading across his face.
“Wanna try me?” Said Keidan, turning to face Robin and dropping his head, so he was looking at Robin from under his dark eyebrows.
Robin stood still smiling, he held out his hand in the direction of the dance floor. “After you.”
Keidan jumped up, hurrying off to the DJ. Robin followed, watching him carefully. Keidan leaned up to shouting something in the DJ’s unoccupied ear. The DJ cut the music and grabbed the microphone, “Clear the grounds ladies and gentleman! We got ourselves a match!” With that he pulled out another vinyl and put it on, and with the flip of a switch the strobe lights had ceased and a new set of swirling beams hit the dance floor. A strong beat hit Robins ears, followed by a scale of synths.
The Crowd parted making way for the two opponents, Beastboy, Starfire, Raven, and Cyborg took the front row, cheering for their captain. Keidan smiled widely at Robin, pocketing his jewelry and piercing studs. The two stood grinning at each other for a time until Keidan had broken the stare leaping high into the air. The lights behind him spinning overhead. Robin crouched and jumped up before Keidan had landed on top of him. Robin landed behind Keidan crouching again and spinning around with one leg extended low to the ground, Keidan hopped over it easily placing one hand on Robin’s head, and with the other grabbing hold of Robin’s arm. Once on the ground again he pulled Robin’s arm under his and reached for the other, but Robin slipped under Keidan’s legs and quickly pulled his captive arm with him forcing Keidan to his knees. Robin placed one hand on the back of his neck, pushing Keidan lower to the ground, but Keidan brought his leg up behind him knocking Robin off balance. The two kept at it until the eight minute club mix was over. Each one breathing hard and squatting slightly. The crowd around them cheered wildly, begging for more, but both Robin and Keidan held up their surrendering hands, and laughing they both hung an arm over each others shoulders and walked over to the chairs again.
“You’re quite the fighter.” Said Robin, dropping clumsily into his enormous chair.
“Thanks! So are you, of course.” Keidan fell into his chair as well, reaching for his drink.
Robin watched Keidan. He had noticed something while fighting him. The way he hopped and leaped around, and he held his arm out behind him, as though keeping something off his back. “Actually, your fighting seemed sorta familiar…”
Keidan looked up at Robin, quickly looking away again.
“But I can’t place it of course. It just seemed so… hmm…”
Keidan jumped forward suddenly, placing his hands on the arms of Robin’s chair. Robin tried to move but before he had time to think Keidan’s lips were locked tight with his, and his soft tongue already running alongside Robin’s. Robin tried to push him away at first. He pushed at Keidan’s chest, but Keidan took one of his hands, and brushing up the side of Robin’s neck he traced the back of Robin’s ear. Robin’s effort weakened slightly, his wide eyes closing slowly. He found himself kissing back, he submitted to Keidan, allowing him to straddle his lap. Keidan broke the kiss, and pulling at the neck of Robin’s outfit, he traced the sternomastoid muscle* running from his collar bone to behind his ear with his lips. Robin leaned his head back, sinking even more into the chair. Keidan tickled the sweet spot behind Robin’s ear again, and kissing Robin’s neck he ran his other hand up Robin’s side. Robin took a deep breath, releasing it in a shudder. Robin opened his eyes, looking up at the ceiling, this felt like so much more than physical pleasure to him. Keidan was gentle with him, not to fast, pausing here and there. His touch was different from Slade’s. It was hungry, but not vicious. Robin was suddenly overwhelmed with a hope he felt was only to good to be true. Keidan ran his hands down between Robin’s legs and Robin jumped suddenly. “Not here…” He said in a gasp.
“Right,” Keidan looked at Robin and smiled. It was a kind smile, not a satisfied one, or a determined one. “We could go out back, if you want…”
“…yeah…”
Keidan sat there, smiling at him for a moment. Leaning down to him he kissed Robin again, long and slowly, and taking his hand he climbed out of Robin’s lap and stood. Pulling Robin up out of the chair he began to walk towards the door, the music still pulsing through the air. Bodies blurring and bouncing in the middle of all the lights and lasers, Robin watched as they all crammed together, moving with the rhythm, the chords, the voice of the diva serenading them all into a trance. Keidan looked back at him as they made their way towards the door. The black brass bar was cold against the palm of his hand as he pushed it open. A rush of ice-cold air stormed against the two of them, the smell of the crisp night air filling their lungs like a flood. The alley outside was dark, with one light at the end of it. The door shut loud and metallic like, cutting the music from their ears. The bass was all that could be heard outside the club.
Keidan looked up and down the alley, spotting a group of boxes that cut off the light from the end of the alley. He pulled Robin over to the boxes turning around to face him. Robin looked at him and continued toward an area of wall between towers of boxes. Turning his back to the wall he pulled Keidan up against him, their noses brushing together. Keidan looked at him with his grey eyes, looking into a mask. He leaned into him harder and lightly brushed his lips over Robin’s wetting his as he drew into a kiss. The two stood there falling into a rhythm of their own. Keidan ran his hand holding Robin’s up against the wall, trapping it and with his other hand sliding up Robin’s side searched for the bottom of Robin’s shirt.
Breaking the long kiss Robin gasped for air with a moan, “… there’s no bottom…”
Keidan looked at him with a puzzled look on his face, “…a one piece?”
“yeah…”
Gigging lightly he took his hand trapping Robin’s and ran it up his neck, “isn’t that uncomfortable?”
“it’s easier to keep track of… and we need to do some laundry...” said Robin as he leaned into Keidan’s hand. Keidan leaned forward slightly finding his favorite neck muscle again. Robin wrapped his arms up over Keidan’s shoulders, leaning his head back against the wall. He waited for the soft lips to graze over his neck, but they didn’t come, “what’s wrong?”
“nothing…” Keidan looked up at him smiling, “I gave you a hickey, that’s all.” He took Robin’s hand in his and kissed the palm, rubbing it on his cheek. Robin leaned forward kissing him lightly. Keidan pulled back again, “but you have to give me one.”
“I do?” said Robin smiling at the thought.
“It’s the rules.”
“Who’s rules?”
“That mark proves that you belong to me. You want me to belong to you, don’t you? “
Robin looked at him for a moment stroking at Keidan’s neck as he decided where to put his prove of ownership. Keidan pulled Robin closer to him, leaning in again and raising his head. Robin leaned forward and placing his lips against the soft surface, he breathed in Keidan’s smell, his oils, the natural smell of his skin, the warmth and the moisture, the sweet softness of fine hairs covering his neck. He kissed at the surface first, lightly, drawing his tongue over it tasting his clean skin. Finally locking his lips over Keidan’s neck, Robin drew his tongue in slowly to the back of his mouth, pulling in the thin layer of tissue separating him from the hot pulsing blood beneath it, pulling it closer to the surface. Lathering his tongue over the surface, he once again drew his tongue towards the back of his mouth , feeling the warmth of blood being pulled closer to him. He heard Keidan moan in a barely audible deep hum, fueling Robin’s need for his mark to show. He quickened his process gripping tightly at the back of Keidan’s neck, pushing an even louder moan from the body against him. Keidan began to breath harder. Wrapping his arms tightly around Robin. His breaths had become audible as well, gasping and moaning, he pushed himself closer yet against Robin. Feeling Keidan hard against his thigh Robin broke his lock and leaned his head against Keidan’s neck, nuzzling it as Keidan leaned in again, but this time with a clear motive. The two leaned against the wall again Robin against the dark red bricks. Keidan pushed his hips into Robin’s watching him as he moaned loudly. Robin responded with his own thrust. The two of them slowly pushed at each other breathing hard and moaning into each other’s necks. Arms wrapped tightly around one another.
Robin brought his head up revealing his neck to Keidan who took the opportunity to find Robin’s collar bone. He pulled at the turtle neck of the material, revealing pale skin underneath covering the hard surface of a mouth watering clavicle* structure. Running his tongue along the collar bone, Robin picked up their rhythm, dropping his arms to Keidan’s waist. Keidan moaned again as he pulled further at the material running his tongue down what little pectoral he could get to. As he worked his way down he found a rough line, jagged and reaching down into Robin’s pale skin. He leaned back still breathing hard. Robin looked up at Keidan, questioning the lack of effort coming from him. Keidan looked with another puzzled look on his face at the deep scratch on Robin’s chest. Robin pulled Keidan’s hand from his shirt. Turing his gaze to the side.
“I see. You’ve been through this before, huh kid?”
“Kid?” Robin looked up suddenly, his eyes wide. He pushed out from the wall, into the light of the alley. Keidan kept his eyes on Robin, confused about what was happening. Robin pointed his hand back towards the door of the club. “So that wasn’t just a coincidence in there?”
“What?” Keidan stepped toward him but stopped when Robin stepped back.
“I knew something seemed familiar about you…”
Keidan stood straight looking at Robin still, “so?”
“You lied to me!”
“About what?” said Keidan, throwing his hands up in the air. “You didn’t say ‘You wouldn’t happen to be a villain would you?’”
“What are you playing at!” Robin began to walk up and down the alley, looking behind the boxes, and up towards the ledge of the roof. “Trying to make some story about how I sleep with my enemies?!”
“What the hell are you talking about!?” Keidan followed him, dodging the boxes as they fell from their towers. “Why me? What motive do I have?”
“You’re one of my enemies!”
“So is Slade!”
Robin spun around, looking at Keidan as he stood before him.
“But you didn’t think that when he said he wanted to fuck you! Why not? Why am I more of a threat than he is? He’s the fucking crack pot!” Keidan lowered his voice, dropping his hands to his sides. “and yet, you trust him. He fucks you soley for the feel of it. He wants you because he likes being in control. But you couldn’t see that.” He turned away from Robin and walked to one of the boxes on the ground. Pulling out a black piece of cloth and a mask, he turned back to Robin, “I tried to save you,” he pushed a small button on the buckle of his belt triggering the cloaking device as his black body suite appeared, resuming dominance over his attire. “you know what Slade is…” he put the cape in place at the base of his neck so it fell over his back, fluttering in the light cold breeze. “you know what I am…” he pulled the mask over his face, an x in red appearing across the mask activating the voice device, “I allowed you to keep your mask on, and approached you without mine…” Looking at Robin he leapt for the roof, but Robin did not follow him. Not even with his gaze. “and yet you trust him over me… I see I’ve just wasted my time here...” A gush of wind burst through the alley and Robin looked up at the roof, but Red X had already left.
• Sternomastoid muscle: A muscle on the neck that begins behind the ear and leads down to the collar bone meeting the other. If you turn your head to one side it protrudes outward, it’s kinda nifty.
• Clavicle: The name of the collar bone.
