Chapter Two: The Fire Burns
The sun came slowly over the hill, filling the titans tower with a gentle light. Slowly the titans began to stir in their rooms. Beast Boy as always the first to wake, he moved quick as cat - a cheetah actually, to the kitchen and began to cook a tofu breakfast. Next to wake was Star fire, whom slipped out of bed and walked to the window. She waved to the sun and gave a gentle caring smile.
“Good Morning Giver of light!” she turned and after getting into her outfit, headed into the kitchen, where she sat down and waited for her breakfast. This was the same routine every morning, everyone filtered in at the same time they normally did. Robin, followed by a grumpy looking Cyborg at having no bacon in his breakfast - so he chooses to make his own as usual.
However Raven had not shown up yet, and they were all curious as to why. The truth was she was meditating. The feeling she had gotten during the night in the tower had disturbed her, it was a familiar one. One she did not know where it had come from, but it sent shivers down her spine.
Dallas awoke as the sun poured down into the living room, and the others looked at him as he stood. In the warm sunlight they could better make out his form, his muscles were strong, but not super defined. Three long scars ran down his back at about a 45 degree angle and stopped just below the line of his jeans. He turned around and gave a smile.
“Morning all” his chest was not nearly as badly scarred as his back, but there was a most definite scar right over his chest. One in the shape of a cross. He stood up and walked over to them and rubbed the back of his head and gave a yawn.
“So when does this test begin?”
“After breakfast - sit - eat” Robin commanded, ~No wonder he’s the leader, very strong willed~ Dallas thought to himself as he sat down and Beast Boy set a plate in front of him. He munched on it, not really talking, just wondering what type of tests they would have in store for him. Just before breakfast time was over Raven walked into the kitchen.
Her blue eyes hidden by her cape went almost immediately to the newcomer. She knew he had powers, but then, the fireball could have been an illusionists trick - and if he was an illusionist - how would they know if he wasn’t just pulling the wool over their eyes? The last thing they needed was another “friend” to turn on them.
That strange feeling came over her again as she sat beside him, taking her plate from Beast Boy and begrudgingly eating it, she didn’t really feel like arguing with him this morning, after the intense mediation last night she was tired. She looked over to him, and noticed the scars upon his back and chest, they reminded her of something, but she couldn’t put a finger on it. She tried to just shrug it off, when robin stood up.
“Alright - Test time” Robin turned and walked out of the room. The titans, except Raven who was still eating, stood with him and followed him. Dallas moved behind them, he turned to Raven, his marble eyes moving to where hers would be.
“Aren’t you coming?” He asked quietly, he did not wish to upset the arguably most powerful member of the teen titans.
“I will be there after I eat my breakfast” she said bluntly to him. He shrugged and followed the rest of the titans to the training room, it did not take them very long to get there, a left, a right, a long hallway, followed by a fowl stench - which Dallas learned quickly was beast boys room. As they all stepped into the room Dallas looked around.
It seemed to be just a normal grey room, with nothing very special about it, doors were all over the place, which was kind of weird, but then again - this was titans tower, he was quite sure nothing was normal about this place.
The rest of the titans backed out of the room and were a few moments later seen in a control room, Robins voice was heard over the loudspeaker system.
“Alright Dallas - first Simulation is simple - there will be one droid - take him down - simple enough?” Dallas looked up to Robin and nodded, Robin imitated stage one, and from the wall stepped a cyborg, built by well - Cyborg. The thing seemed to lower into a stance, but Dallas did not bother, and the titans looked at one another.
“Maybe he is fake...better get the medical equipment ready..” said Robin quietly, as he turned back to watch the fight. The Cyborg was programmed to be the violent one, so it charged forwards, in Dallas’s hand a blade of fire formed. Robin along with the others raised a single eyebrow, and in a flash, the Cyborg had been melted in two, and the sword was gone.
“Well - that went well Dallas - alright - seeming as you have abilities - were going to skip the next five stages and go right to the endangered citizen - alright?” Dallas nodded up at them and gave a playful thumbs up.
As Robin started the simulation Raven stepped into the viewing booth and just floated over the others, she assumed that Robin had done standard procedure and when powers were evident went to Stage Five. The roof moved upward and a fake building came from the wall - a cyborg simulation of a human hanging off the edge screaming. It was at least three stories up.
Dallas let out a sigh, and seemed to be stretching his back little when the three cyborg came out of the walls, he rolled his eyes and squeezed his fist, a roar, and he was engulfed in flames.
The flame was so bright it temporarily blinded the titans, but what they saw next, was a sight indeed. Dallas was coated in flame. His black hair kicking around in the hot air, his muscles were straining little, veins sticking out on his arms and chest. His body had grown in height as well, now standing at just below 6'7, nearly as large as Cyborg. His finger nails had grown longer and turned red, but his blue eyes were the same, staring out through the flame. The most - prominent feature however, were the wings that now sprouted from his back. Smooth black feathers that shined in the light lined the strong almost angelic wings, each feather was decorated on the tips with beautiful reds and oranges, almost appearing on fire themselves. His face was calm, deadly so, the canines that once rested inside his mouth, barely came over his lips as a confident grin spread from his lips.
Raven’s eyes widens - and quite suddenly the cyborg exploded in a blast of black energy, they all turned to her and gave her a strange look, as her mouth was agape. She floated backwards and through the wall, her soul self engulfing her body and landing her back in her room.
The other titans starred at the wall for a moment, then looked back down to Dallas, who had melted the titanium floor below his feet as his wings flapped, lifting him off the ground, and to the innocent “human.” Despite the heat of his body, the cyborg remained unharmed as he set them down.
Meanwhile in her room, Raven was starring wide eyed at the ceiling and she muttered to herself “It cannot be...there dead...all dead....”
