Unforeseen
Back at the tower, Robin and Rave rushed to get their friends in the med lab. Robin was upset with himself. “I should have been helping her,” he kept saying to himself. “You have to get over it,” Raven said as they placed Beast Boy and Starfire on a couple of beds. The boy wonder knew that she was right but it was hard for him to let it go. He hated to lose and even more hated to see his friends hurt. “You staying here,” he asked. “They’ll be fine when they wake up. Beast Boy’s back will heal and Starfire will wake up. Cyborg is just going to have a make repairs on himself when he wakes up too.” Robin looked at Raven, having not gotten an answer. “The others will be fine; they just need to rest for a while. So no, I won’t be staying,” Raven said. The titan leader watched as the dark sorceress walked out.
After the door closed behind her, Robin sat down to watch his friends’ vital signs. Wallowing in his anger, Robin’s rage clouded his judgment. “I will get those H.I.V.E. bastards,” he said clenching his fists. The more he thought about it, the more he felt confident in carrying out his plan. He got up and after making sure that his friends would be comfortable should they awaken, Robin left and headed downstairs to get a snack. “When I get back at them,” Robin said under his breath, “they are going to wish that they had never messed with the teen titans.”
As he pulled out a slice of pizza from the frig, there was a knock at the door. “Who the hell could that be,” the boy wonder thought. Making his way over to the front door, he tried to figure out who could possibly be at the door. “Probably Terra,” Robin thought. But when he opened the door to let her in, he was shocked to find that it wasn’t the geomancer, it was Jinx!
“What the hell are you doing here,” Robin said putting up his hands, ready for a fight. But the pink sorceress didn’t make a move to attack. She just stood there in the doorway, her eyes periodically glancing in Robin’s before looking to the ground. “Well, come on,” Robin shouted, “you came for a fight. Now come and get it!” Jinx still didn’t raise her hand to hex the titan leader. “That’s not why I came here,” her voice relatively calm considering Robin was ready to kill her. “Then why are you and where’s your friends,” Robin said not letting his guard down for a minute. “Recovering,” Jinx responded to Robin’s second question. “And the first question,” Robin pressed. Jinx slowly walked towards Robin, her hands behind her back as to assure him that she meant him no harm, this time anyways. She circled around Robin, all the time the titan leader not letting her out of his sight. “You see,” Jinx finally said, “you are very good looking. And it would have to be my luck that we would end up on opposite sides.” Robin batted an eye, “What the hell are you getting at,” he thought. Jinx continued her circling, admiring her opponent’s body. “I wish to tell you that I apologize for attacking you guys. Where are the others anyways,” Jinx asked. “Its none of your business,” Robin stated with anger permeating his voice.
“Look,” Jinx said, “I am truly sorry. Would you…” she didn’t finish. “What?” Robin asked. Jinx hesitated. “Would you meet me at Central Park, 8:30 tonight,” she asked. Robin, cunning as he was, did not expect such a question. “Are you nuts,” the boy wonder asked, “You tried to kill me. Now you want me to go meet you in the park in the dark? Why should I even believe you? What will you give me in return?” Jinx stopped walking and looked Robin in the eyes. “What would I have to do for you to trust me,” she asked. The ball was now in Robin’s court. “Alright,” Robin dealt, “you tell me where your friends are, what you guys where or are planning, and I come armed.” Three monumental choices she would have to make to have a chance with Robin meeting her.
“Turn in my friends, tell him our plans, and let him meet me when he’s armed,” Jinx thought. Letting him come with weaponry was no matter. Every time they had met in the past they had been fighting hammer and tong; that was the no-brainer. Now tell him the HIVE’s plan, she could lie about that. “Ok, you can come with your toys and I’ll tell you what we’re up to,” Jinx agreed, “but you have to come meet me tonight for me to tell you.” Robin third request was still hard for her to answer though. She, Mammoth, and Gizmo had been like a trio, sticking together, fighting the Teen Titans. “And turning Mammoth and Gizmo in, what about that,” Robin interjected. Jinx looked to the ground, her eyes beginning to tear. “Ok,” the pink enchantress said, “they’re hiding back at the old power plant. Will you meet me tonight for the plans?”
Robin lowered his hands slightly but didn’t let down his guard completely. If Jinx was tricking him, which seemed rather illogical at this point, he was going to be ready to retaliate. “Ok, tonight under the third park light on the path from the east. Got it? And you better not be planning on tricking me ‘cause if you are you won’t live past tonight,” Robin warned. Jinx smiled, getting a chance to talk to Robin alone.
After Jinx left, Robin closed the door and went back to get something to eat. Sitting at the kitchen table, Raven walked in. “Who was just here,” she asked. “Jinx,” Robin answered as he began to eat. “What,” Raven exclaimed, her powers released slamming Robin’s pizza in his face. “Sorry,” she said as Robin peeled the cheese from his face, “just surprised.” “You’re surprised; how do you think I reacted when I got the door?” Robin responded. “What did she want,” Raven asked. “Well, all I know is that she’s going to tell me what the HIVE is up to,” Robin said, “but I have to meet her tonight at Central Park.” “Then I’m going too,” Raven said matter-of-factly, “if you’re going to deal with her, then you’re going to need someone to back you up. Besides, the others are fine so I don’t have to stay here.” Robin looked at his friend, “I need you to check up on the old power plant; see if Mammoth and Gizmo are there,” the titan leader said. Raven was puzzled, “What makes you think that they are even there,” she asked. Robin got up and put his plate in the sink. As he wiped his face to get the rest of the pizza from his face he explained what Jinx had told him. “And you think that she’s telling the truth,” Raven said skeptically. “I don’t know, but if that’s true then I should see her and get more information from her,” Robin reasoned. “Fine then,” Raven said, “I’ll be back in one hour and you get ready for later should she have been telling the truth.” Raven teleported herself from the room as Robin headed up to see his friends recovering from their injuries.
Starfire was still out cold but her heart rate was normal. As far as Robin could tell, she would be up in a couple of days with a headache. Beast Boy was sleeping having taken some painkillers with drowsy side effects. And Cyborg was just waking up. “You feeling alright,” Robin asked. Then metal titan groaned as he rubbed his head, “I’ve had better days.” Sitting up, he reached for something to relieve his headache. “Gotta repair too,” he said looking at his scanners, “and it looks like I’ll be here all night.” “Then you going to watch the others in case they wake up,” Robin asked. “Sure. Hey, where’s Raven?” Robin explained the whole thing with Cyborg. When he finished, Cyborg shook his head. “Don’t do it man. It’s a trap.” Robin thought so too but he wasn’t going to give up an opportunity to defeat his enemies. “I know but if Raven comes back and says that Mammoth and Gizmo are there, I’m going,” Robin stated, ending the conversation.
He walked out, leaving Cyborg feeling unsure about what Robin was going to do. But what could he do to stop him? He was in no condition to stop Robin. And besides, if Robin was going to be able to get Jinx to tell him prized information, shouldn’t he support the Titan leader? “I just hope Robin knows what he’s doing,” Cyborg thought and started his repairs.
Downstairs, Robin paced back and forth waiting for Raven to return. In one respect, he hoped that Raven didn’t find Mammoth or Jinx. If she did, then he would have to risk meeting Jinx in the park, a dangerous proposal for anyone. There could be an ambush. Just enough information from Jinx could cripple the titans. But if the information was wrong, there was no loss to him. Jinx wasted her time trying to setup a trap.
Raven arrived fifteen minutes after Robin had come downstairs. The boy wonder looked up, his face asking the question. Raven nodded, “they are there and they are not going to be any trouble for us for a long time,” Raven grinned. Shock appeared on Robin’s face, “you didn’t...” The dark teen shook her head, “No they’re alive, just incapacitated. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to my room.” Robin had his answer; he was going to meet the HIVE sorceress. “I’ll be back as soon as I can,” he told Raven as she walked away. “I know,” the Goth responded and she was gone.
