Chapter 2. So quickly. Now if only
I had the motivation to finish the next chapter of my Starfox fic…or
more importantly, the Legend of Zelda one. >_> The LoZ fic
I’m doing, well, I ran myself right into a rut with its
creation. I dunno how to progress from the point I’m at. The
next Starfox fic chapter, however, is well and truly under way, and
nearly completed. Anyways. As for THIS story, I’m going to
build up a bit on my two characters. Just for a bit of layman
explanations. Gun has the ability to create any gun in his hands.
As in, he can hold his hand out, and have a Colt .45, an AK-47, an
LAW-80 anti-tank rocket launcher, or even a flak cannon in his hands.
The ammunition comes from him as well, but to create all these
requires energy, and after a while he does need to rest…but
until then, he’s extremely deadly in the fact that not only is
he a sharpshooter but he’s also an extremely adept close-range
fighter, too. Metal, meanwhile, has the ability to create any sword
or club or axe or whatever in his own hands, not unlike Gun’s
ability to, well, create guns. The difference is that Gun excels at
ranged combat and can only produce guns from his hands, and Metal is
a master of all close-range techniques and can produce only weapons
designed for close combat. He can, however, throw a sword or axe or
dagger with alarming accuracy. Both look alike, except Gun’s
hair is shoulder-length, black, and has white stripes in it, whereas
Metal’s hair is silver, also shoulder length. Gun prefers to
spike his hair back and downwards hedgehog-style, whereas Metal
leaves his hair alone. Gun’s eyes are black, with unusual
white lines in them, and to match, Metal’s eyes are silver.
Anyway, here we go.
Raven groaned softly
as she opened her eyes. She felt dehydrated, like she had just been
left out in a desert with no food or water for three days. She
blinked after a moment. She could see nothing but darkness. She
tried focusing, but nothing. She felt a cloth around her face,
covering her eyes. She tried to move a hand to remove the offending
rag, but found that they were bound tightly behind her back, pressed
between her body and the floor. Panic, for the first time in a long
time, began to seize at her senses. She tried moving her legs. They
were bound in several places, tied together so tight that she
couldn’t move at all. She tried to open her mouth, and found a
powerful tape covering it, keeping it firmly closed. The panic
became stronger, ever so much stronger, as she tried to thrash
against her bindings, letting out muffled grunts as she tried to free
herself in some way. She couldn’t speak the words for her
incantation, she couldn’t move, she couldn’t see…she
was helpless. The realization terrified her to no end, and something
began to shake…and then stopped. Somehow, something was even
blocking the effects her emotions had on her surroundings. It hit
her also, that she couldn’t calm herself to even focus on
transforming to her demonic state. Then, she heard something next to
her.
“Raven?”
came a scared, but familiar voice.
“Mm-mm-mm??”
was the only response Raven could make. It had been an attempt to
say “Starfire?” but it obviously hadn’t worked with
the tape holding her mouth shut. Starfire’s voice seemed to
relax a little.
“Raven! Oh I
am so happy to hear you! …Even if you do not speak.”
More muffled attempts
at explanation, obviously futile.
Starfire twisted her
head around, trying to determine the sound of the muffled replies,
still feeling quite scared but at least somewhat reassured that Raven
was alive and nearby. She, too, had a blindfold over her face. She,
however, was tied to a wall backwards, so her front was against the
wall. A number of padded metal restraints surrounded her body and
held her to the wall, so she couldn’t move either, nor could
she turn her head enough to see anything. She felt worse than Raven,
having been hit with two tranquilizer darts rather than one. She
felt as dry as the desert sand, her head throbbed, her body felt weak
and flimsy, and she couldn’t summon her powers. Her voice was
dry and somewhat wheezy, her throat was parched, and her tongue was
swollen. She felt horrible, and terrified, wondering what was going
to happen to them, and hoping that Robin and the others were ok.
“Raven, I
cannot see you…something is covering my face, I cannot see
anything…it’s so dark…” she whimpered
softly, fear starting to grip at her more. She heard a muffled
attempt at a response, and hoped something horrible wasn’t
happening to her friend.
Raven shook slightly
as she tried to struggle. This was horrible, worse than any pain
that could be administered. Such a feeling of intense, pure
hopelessness…it was almost enough to make her throw up. She
felt ill, nauseous already from the dehydration. Panic began to grip
at her more and she began to struggle harder. It was no use. With
effort, she forced herself to calm down enough, to try and get some
control over herself, but it was difficult. Suddenly, a load
slamming noise echoed through the room, and Raven stiffened,
horrified, wondering what it was.
The two brothers
entered the room. Gun flipped on a switch, and an overhead lamp and
fan turned on. Starfire didn’t move, terrified to even bother
trying. If she had enough hydration left in her, tears would’ve
been leaking from her painfully dry eyes.
“Alright, you
two,” came Metal’s voice as they both stepped into the
room in unison. He didn’t continue his sentence, watching as
Gun took a step forwards and knelt next to Raven.
“Raven. The
Gothy chick from the Teen Titans. Know a lot about you. Father’s
a demon, I recall that much. You were meant as an instrument of
destruction or something like that. Ironic you’re a
superheroine. Fighting crime, kicking peoples’ asses, and all
the while being a heartless bitch about it. It’s
understandable. In your position, I would be, too.”
Raven heard a
clicking sound. It sounded terrifyingly like a gun. Then she felt
the cold steel press against her head. She froze, not moving at all,
a soft whimpering sound emitting from her. Metal frowned. He opened
his mouth to say something but, without looking at him, Gun made a
slashing gesture with his hand. Metal closed his mouth and shrugged,
glancing over to Starfire.
“You’re
scared, aren’t you?” Gun asked in a soothing voice.
“Terrified. The realization it may all end now is hitting you.
Here, in this lonely room, bound, gagged, unable to see or move or
speak, nobody knowing where you are…it could all end like…”
Gun pulled the trigger. The loud “SNAP!” of the hammer
hitting and the firing pin jerking forward, only to hit the air
within the empty chamber, made Raven jerk, a muffled squeal of
horrified terror escaping from her, her body suddenly shaking
uncontrollably again, her breathing tripling in speed. She felt a
hand on her shoulder.
“But we aren’t
like that, Raven. We don’t kill. Not needlessly. And
sometimes even when we need to, we don’t. It’s not
something we enjoy having on our conscious. Stealing, that’s
one thing. Killing is a whole different ball game.”
Raven continued to
shake violently, her eyes shut tightly behind the blindfold. This
had to be a nightmare. She heard the sound of metal being rested on
concrete. He had set the gun down. Suddenly, one hand rested firmly
on her cheek, pressing the other side of her face into the cement.
She almost let out a muted protest, until she felt fingernails from
another hand scratching at her cheeks a bit, slowly pulling away the
tape. It burned as it came off, but she didn’t complain. She
grunted a bit in pain as the tape was pulled away from her lips. She
was about to seize her chance, taking in a deep breath…until…
“Don’t even think of saying those words. You say them,
and I will shove that gun so far down your throat you’ll choke
until you turn blue.”
Raven closed her
mouth, releasing her breath in defeat. Instead, she decided on
conversation…or at least a question. Her voice was weak,
scratchy, and almost inaudible, giving the usual monotone an unusual
waver.
“Why are you
doing this to us…?”
Gun examined her
slowly, pondering her question…or so it seemed, anyway.
“You’re
hostages. I know how you lot work, you Titans. Once you go after
someone, you don’t rest until you’ve got them. You lot
aren’t stupid, you’re cunning, and me and my brother here
can’t possibly assume we’ll forever evade your friends.
We sure as hell can’t bother reasoning with them, as I know you
lot probably don’t listen to the reasoning of mere CRIMINALS,”
he said, his voice dripping with scathing sarcasm, before continuing,
“so we need some way to keep our asses safe if it comes to the
point where we have to negotiate. That’s where you two come
in.”
“So…we
have to…remain here…”
“Possibly for a
long time, yes.”
Raven went silent.
She felt sick.
“I feel sick…”
she whispered.
Gun looked her over
another moment and nodded.
“Very well.
But try anything, and I’ll tranq you again, and this time it’ll
be three darts…and your friend over there got hit with two,
she could tell you how miserable she’s probably feeling right
now.”
Starfire, at this,
merely made a weak “uh-huh” in response.
Metal looked over at
her, then at Gun. “Are you sure it’s such a good idea to
release her?” he asked, frowning deeply.
“Trust me…even
if she tries something, I put something in those tranq darts. They
won’t be using any powers for a while,” Gun muttered,
making it loud enough so both Starfire and Raven could hear him, as
he began to untie the many bindings. Last, he undid the blindfold
and tossed it aside. Raven’s half-closed eyes were bloodshot
from dehydration, dryness and tears she couldn’t shed. She
looked over her captor as he finished with her bonds, too scared to
try anything. Even if she wanted to, her body was too weak. Slowly,
she tried to sit up when all the bindings were loose and she was
completely freed. She couldn’t even do that. Gun slid one
hand under her back, just underneath her shoulder blades, and the
other underneath her knees, standing up and picking her up. Gun
nodded at his brother.
“You can handle
the alien, right?”
“Well, if you
can handle the demon girl, yeah.”
Gun chuckled, before
turning and moving out of the room and down the hall. Raven was limp
in his arms, completely stone-still, her lips parted and taking in
slow, steady breaths. Neither said anything as he carried her into
the bathroom, laying her first on the floor, then helping her kneel
in front of the toilet. Raven shut her eyes, taking in deep breaths
before suddenly dry heaving. She groaned after the feeling had
passed, as Gun held her shoulders to keep her steady. He grabbed a
glass and filled it with some tap water, holding it before her lips
and letting her drink slowly, making sure she didn’t rush it.
That wouldn’t help if she did. She took a gasping breath after
she finished, shuddering again. Quickly, he set the glass back on
the sink counter and gripped her shoulders as she bent over the
toilet, heaving violently. It stopped after a few seconds, leaving
her limper than she had been before, tears finally squeezing out from
under her eyelids. She took gasping, hiccupping breaths, trembling
faintly. She felt one of Gun’s hands stroke her purple hair
out of her face, as she bent over the toilet again. He held her hair
out of her eyes as she retched again and again, until finally the
feeling passed. She groaned softly as she sat back, panting heavily.
“Feeling any
better?” Gun asked softly. Raven nodded weakly. “Sort
of…” she muttered, chest heaving as she breathed
heavily. “Feel so weak…”
“Alright…can
you walk?”
Raven shook her head.
“No…I can hardly even sit up…”
“Alright,
then,” Gun replied, refilling the glass with water and
disappearing for a second. He came back a few moments later.
“I put some
salt in it to help your body recover the salt it lost with the tranq
dart. Drink it slowly,” he advised, giving her the glass.
Raven took it and resisted the urge to chug it all down at once,
wiping her mouth and handing him the glass when she had finished with
it.
“Thank you,”
she said hoarsely.
Gun shrugged. “Well,
I’d rather not have you die of dehydration. It’d give
your friends more of a reason to kill us. By the way, my name is Gun
Gray. My brother in there is Metal.”
Despite her present
condition and position, Raven couldn’t help a snort.
“Gunmetal gray.
Like the color. How cliché.”
“Wasn’t
our decision. It was the scientist who created us.”
“Scientist…?”
“We’re
not exactly naturally made,” Gun replied off-handedly,
shrugging. “Now can you stand?”
Raven sighed and
tried to stand slowly, managing to after a minute of struggling. Gun
slid one of her arms around his shoulders so she would have some
leverage, escorting her back to the room. Metal had freed Starfire
of her restraints, and she was sitting with her back to the wall,
slowly drinking from a bottle of water Metal had brought with him.
Starfire looked up as Gun and Raven entered the room.
“Raven! You
are ok! I was so worried!”
Raven just shook her
head, eying the restraints laying on the ground that had been used to
bind her not too long ago. Gun waved a hand at them dismissively.
“Don’t
worry, we’re not rebinding you.” he said, letting go of
Raven. Wearily, she sat down. She wasn’t too worried for
their situation; she knew her friends would come looking for her and
Starfire. She was more worried about her friends. These two had
overwhelmed them entirely. But maybe they'd be prepared this time
and would know what to expect.
“We've gotta do
something,” Cyborg said, watching as Robin paced around the
room. They'd all recovered fairly quickly. It was a day after the
entire disastrous encounter with the pair of thieves/kidnappers at
the Tower. Robin sighed, shaking his head.
“Yeah, but
what? We can search, but we don't have anywhere to begin. Getting
no signals on the transponders, no communications, nobody has seen
either of them, nor have they seen the two that kidnapped Starfire
and Raven...” Robin said, clenching his teeth but remaining as
calm as possible. Beast Boy sighed as he shook his head.
“Then maybe we
should just start looking. It's better than sittin' around here,”
he said unhappily. Gone were the usual string of corny jokes. An
aura of seriousness, worry, and even despair pervaded the Titans now.
Robing glanced at Beast Boy, then nodded slowly.
“Yeah...might
as well...” he said, shaking his head slowly as if admitting
defeat. He turned to Cyborg.
“Cyborg, you'll
cover the northern areas of the city. Beast Boy, you take the
center, and I'll look through the southernmost districts.”
Beast Boy and Cyborg nodded as Robin continued. “We don't
return here until we've found them. Got that?” Again, they
exchanged nods. Without a further word, they all grabbed their
communicators and departed the Tower, heading separate directions
into the city.
