Frail (XIV)

Alerra let Jonn listen to Diana’s heart. “Can you phase from her?”
Alerra looked at him but phased from the Amazon and stood beside Jonn.
She looked at the others in the room feeling their hatred for her.
“I did not do this to her. I would not let anything happen to her.”
Diana groaned and opened her eyes.
Bruce moved closer to her. “Diana”
She smiled. “Bruce.”
Jonn began to withdraw some blood.
Kal held Diana’s other hand. She looked at him and visions of them making furious love flooded her mind.
Alerra chuckled at something. She moved away from Diana and the bed. “You feel better now.”
Diana looked at her. “We have to stop her.”
“We will Amazon but you can not go, you are too weak.”
“You can not live that long without me and you are the only one who can defeat her.”
Alerra looked at her. “What are you suggesting Amazon that you fight with me? You can barely walk and you expect me to fight.”
“Diana she’s right.” Bruce said.
Diana pulled away from him and Kal and sat up holding her stomach.
“Can you feel her? Does she still have some of your magic?”
Alerra concentrated and saw Gretchen flying over Gotham and destroying buildings and the sky beginning to darken as the power she was using began to call the dark one to rule.
“She has already awakened him and he will rule here.”
Diana stood. “You can stop her.”
Alerra smiled at Diana. “I know I must stop her but without you.”
“You can’t” Jonn said.
They faced him. “If you leave without Diana she will die. You are connected to each other. You need the necklace to undo the connection.”
“Why is she weak?”
Jonn looked at Kal and Bruce.

Diana walked from the medical bay towards her room.
Shayera went after her.

Alerra stood there staring at Jonn. “Such is not possible. I am evil I would kill all that is good.”
“Diana is not evil.” Kal said holding his head.
Alerra looked at him. “You will be with her will you not?
“Yes I will it is my child.”
Alerra looked at Bruce he was quiet. She turned towards the window viewing the stars.
“I have done many wrongs in my life but this I can not do. I can not take her to die by her hand.”
“You can protect her.” Jonn said.
“I need all my power to fight her.”
“Let Diana help you.” Bruce said.
Alerra looked at him. “She can not help me in her current condition.”
Jonn came near her. “I can help her.”
Alerra continued to stare at the stars. “You should have killed me in the beginning Man of Steel.”
Kal looked at the Sorceress. “I know.”
Alerra flexed her wings. “If I can get to the necklace in four hours time I may not need the Amazon. She can come with me but I will hide her away.”
Jonn looked at Alerra. “Will the other be able to detect her?”
“No I did not let her talk to the Amazon so she does not know her signature.” Alerra looked at Superman. “She is asking for you.”
Kal began to walk away. Bruce continued to look at the stars.
“”Was it you or her that wanted this.”
Alerra smiled. “I am still evil and I will never answer that Batman.”

Shayera chuckled at Diana talking about what to name the child.
Kal knocked on the door. Shayera let him in.
She smiled. “She’s been waiting for you.”
Kal returned her smile as she walked out of the room.
Diana walked over to him and received a hug.
“If you do not want to be with me I will understand. I know you love Lois.”
Kal held her tighter. “Love made this child Diana and my love grows still.”
Diana smiled.
Kal pulled back. “I know you wish the child was Bruce’s.”
Diana touched his cheek. “It is as it should be with the one that needs and loves me and I need and love him.”
Kal pulled her to him for a hard kiss. Diana’s arms surrounded his neck. Kal easily lifted her from the floor and walked towards her bed to make love to his Diana.

“What were you thinking when you decided to push her away?” Alerra asked Batman once Jonn left the room.
“It was complicated.”
“Did you think she would forever wait to be with you while you continued to live your life and see and sleep with whoever you wanted?”
Batman looked at her. “Clark was not free.”
“Free enough and not complicated. They have deep feelings for each other Bruce and you just helped that to grow by rejecting a beautiful Princess that Kal is enjoying right now.”
Batman turned away from her.
Alerra smiled. “I even gave you the chance but you did not take her.”
“That would be wrong.”
“Kal took his chance granted I loosened his resolve and weakened the Amazon to give in to her feelings but he took her and now his child grows in her womb.”
Batman was silent.
“If you continue with this behavior of yours you will be alone forever.”
“Maybe that is how it should be.”
“Not even I want to be alone and I wish to rule. You are a human it is in your nature to love and be with others.”
“Not mine.”
“Then you should feel happy that Diana has the perfect mate in Kal.”
Batman was silent.
Alerra looked at him and flexed her wings. “You wish me dead but I can’t die or she will die.”
Bruce frowned at her.
Alerra smiled. “You can’t kill me anyway; I was inside of you and know what you are thinking all the time.”
The Batman turned back towards the window. Alerra wavered a bit and then held her head.
“She is using massive amounts of energy. What a nuisance she is?”
Alerra turned to walk from the med lab.
Jonn materialized before her. “It would be wise for you to stay here for safety reasons.”
Alerra sighed. “I will not hurt anyone. I‘ve done that already” Alerra cursed. “Damn that Amazon and her goodness. I would never say this.”
Shayera came into the Lab. “There is civil unrest on earth. Something is happening.”
Alerra looked at Jonn. “We must go now.”

Kal helped Diana dress and she kissed him again.
“I could get use to you doing that.” Diana smiled up at him.
They walked to the door and saw the others standing there.
Alerra’s eyes began to glow. “It is beginning she is using the necklace and he is moving towards the portal.” Alerra leaned against the wall. “I did not think she could use so much energy so fast. We must hurry.”
Alerra looked at Kal then Diana. “I will not let her bring him over Amazon.”
“I don’t want him here either.”
“You must destroy the necklace when I take it from her. I will separate from you and give you back your powers and then you will crush the necklace and he will leave.”
Diana nodded.
“We will provide a safe passage to the other.” Jonn said to Alerra.
Diana squeezed Kal’s hand as Alerra approached her. “I will bring her back safely to you.”
Alerra phased inside of the Amazon and it took a minute for Diana to straighten.
Kal moved to touch her but Alerra moved away and towards the landing bay.
“We don’t have much time before she opens the portal completely.”
Kal looked at Bruce as they followed behind.
“Whatever it takes Alerra can not live if Diana dies.” Bruce said.
“If Diana dies nothing will live.” Kal corrected.
