Chapter 13
“Wally! Wally!” someone was calling his name. Someone nice he thought blearily. They sounded as if they were calling to him from a far distance. He could smell soap and clean laundry. Awareness of the agony of his body hit him out of nowhere and he groaned and opened bleary eyes.Batman’s masked face swam over him, concern etched into every visible line of his face. “Wally.” He repeated, looking relieved. “Can you hear me?”
“B..bats.” The world came slowly into focus as did the pain. Wally shot up into a sitting position in the bed so quickly that Batman flinched back. His deep green eyes were wide as the looked around the room. It was familiar to him, the League’s sickbay. His whole body flooded with relief as he realized he wasn’t inside that horrible ship. He relaxed a little and sank back against the pillows, though he remained sitting and looked weary.
Shayera shoved the rolly chair Batman was sitting away from the edge of his bed and her face took place of his masked one. Without warning she wrapped her arms around him and held him tight. He flinched involuntarily when she first embraced him, but she simply sat on the bed with her arms wrapped protectively around him. It was warm and welcome, like coming home after a cold rainy day. “Wally, we’ve got you, you’re sa—“
Wally let out a choked sob and pressed his face against her shoulder, shaking. Tears rolled down and he buried his face against the material of her shirt. He couldn’t stop crying. Every bit of him hurt, but she held him as he sobbed rubbing his back with a hand. He felt Batman walk up next to Shayera and place a hand on his shoulder. “You’re safe.” He heard her say reassuringly. She kept repeating it like a mantra. “You’re safe, you’re safe.” He didn’t know how long he stayed like that before he fell asleep, too exhausted to stay conscious anymore.

“Bruce,” J’onn said in a voice that was almost scolding as he handed him a mug of coffee. “You have been looming over Wally since he was rescued. You need to rest.”
Batman grunted and took the mug without a thank you. He turned back to the young redhead. In the aftermath of the Earth Headquarters’ battles with the Apokoliptians, there were many wounded Leaguers in the medical bay being treated. The speedster had regained consciousness only once before he had moved him, when they had attempted to removed the metal collar around his neck. A high volt of electric power had surged from the collar and through Wally’s body. He had screamed in agony and he became hysterical. Even after the shocks had subsided, he’d run around the room in a blind panic, knocking things down and tearing at the windows, trying to open them. He hadn’t seemed to recognize his friends. He’d torn his stitches open in the process.
“It will be at least another day before I begin to reduce the sedatives.” J’onn added pointedly. It had taken the Martian Manhunter’s psychic abilities and Hawk Girl’s strength to catch and sedate him. In favor of preserving Flash’s secret identity and giving the young man somewhere quiet to recover from his trauma, they had moved him quietly to Wayne Manor where J’onn and Bruce had watched over him for the past few days. Reluctantly they had decided to keep him heavily sedated until his wounds had closed, to avoid him from injuring himself further in his panic. “One wound at a time,” J’onn had said as he’d personally stitched the wounds closed again.
“I still don’t know…”Batman frowned and he slumped into the armchair next to Wally’s bed. An I.V was hooked to his arm, he checked it absently, and glanced at the heart moniter. Under sedation Flash’s heart beat at the same speed as a normal human’s. Though Wally was never in mortal danger from his wounds, the steady beep was a comfort for Bruce.
“You don’t know how to react to this attack.” J’onn finished, walking to Wally’s bedside. He paused and then added, “I must admit, I am shocked at the brutality myself. Martians would hardly ever enact such brutality upon one another. I’ve had a chance to examine Wally’s mind while he was unconscious. Though the drugs make it hard to tell, I believe there is significant psychological damage.” He touched the metal collar still around Wally’s neck. They hadn’t managed to remove it. A tiny bat shaped scrambling device was clipped onto the side, not only in case there was a tracking signal, but because J’onn had sensed a low psychic pulse being emitted by the thing. It would stop it from all but directly hurting the young man.
Bruce’s fists clenched and he ground his teeth. “It’s unbelieveable. I mean, part of me still wants to think that this hasn’t happened. When I saw him on the monitor on that ship…J’onn… what they were doing to him…I don’t know how to help a man recover from that.”
“I will do what I can when he wakes.” J’onn nodded. “It will take work, but Wally is strong.”
Bruce didn’t respond. After a moment he sighed and rose. “I think I will rest. Stay with him?”
“I will.”
Bruce nodded and stalked out of the room, calling for Alfred. J’onn took his spot by the bed.

Faceless villians laughed maniacally as each took their turn with him. He moved limply against them, arms and legs to heavy. He simply flopped in time with their thrusts. They seemed to come on and on, and he was sure that this had been going on for ages. He felt no pain or pleasure from their ministrations, only ashamed and humiliated. Batman, Superman, J’onn, Wonderwoman, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Luthor were standing in the room watching him being violated. None of them moved, they simply stared as he was forced to look into each of their scornful eyes. His tounge felt heavy and dry, and he couldn’t quite manage to get the words out
“Sttrrppp!!” he cried. Everything felt heavy, but he didn’t feel any pain. That was good at least. His brain felt numb and buzzy and the image of the faceless villans wavered. Luthor was still there though, naked and hard, laughing at him, leering with those cold dark eyes. He reached with his large hands to grab Flash and force him down, force him to submit and enjoy it.
“NOOOOOOOOO!!” Wally screamed, thrashing.
“WALLY!” Batman’s voice yelled from far away, “Wally!! Calm down! J’onn, you reduced it too quickly. Add a painkiller to his I.V so that he can stay conscious and calm him down! Wally!!”
“ArrrgghH!!” Wally opened his eyes blearily, thrashing for a few more moments before his body felt heavy and soft. His eyelids felt heavy as well and he blinked a few times, slowly coming to lay limply against the white sheets of the bed he lay in.
“You were having a nightmare.” The Martian reported, removing his hand from Wally’s forehead as Batman released his forearms. A prickling sensation pulled off his scalp as the Martian’s hand did. Some of the heavy grogginess left him, but not all of it. He glanced at his arm and spotted the little i.v tap doctors used now sticking out of his arm and taped down so that it wouldn’t be torn out.
He settled back on the bed. It felt as though he hadn’t spoken in many days and his voice cracked when he did. “You drugged me?” Wally said, managing to sound indignant, as exhausted as he was. He visibly retracted from the other two as he said it. He looked hurt, deep green eyes looking everywhere but at his two friends. His shock of red hair was mussed from sleep, the deep red orange providing a sharp contrast to how pale his skin was. Wally did not look healthy.
“We had to improvise, your thrashing kept tearing open your wounds.” Batman said.
“You were fighting us, Wally.” J’onn reached over and placed a hand on Wally’s shoulder. He flinched at the touch, and then looked ashamed that he had. J’onn retracted his arm without looking offended.
“R-right…” he subconsciously drew the covers up closer to his chest. There was a long silence where no one spoke, and everyone seemed afraid to move.
“You must be starving.” Batman stood up abruptly. “I’ll have Alfred bring some food, what are you hungry for?”
Wally had never thought anyone would ever ask him that question again. His weary face broke into a wide smile and he almost looked himself again. He popped up from the bed in enthusiasm. Food. Sweet, delicious food. Wally let out a laugh.
“Everything!!” he laughed. “I’m so freaking hungry.”
“I’ll see what I can do,” Batman said with a chuckle.
Wally grinned and settled back against the bed and noticed for the first time that he was wearing silk blue pajamas. Bruce Wayne’s pajamas. The fact that Bruce Wayne owned pajamas alone made him burst out laughing.
J’onn frowned. “We may have given you too much pain killer. How are you feeling?”
Wally put his palm to his forehead and leaned back, laughing and laughing until his laughter turned to sobs. His shoulders shaking, he covered his eyes with his arm as he lay against the pillows. All mirth gone from him.
“It hurts so much.” He sobbed.
“Wally.” J’onn’s concern was evident in his voice. He knew the young man wasn’t referring to physical pain, he’d given him enough painkiller to be sure of that, at least. Psychological wounds weren’t so easily mended. He sat in the chair Batman had left unoccupied. “Wally, Luthor—“
The redhead visible tensed at the name and he trembled for a moment. J’onn changed the direction he was going in. It was to early for him to talk about it. He’d been unconscious for the 3 days since he’d been rescued, he had no time to process.
“You’ve been through a lot.”
“I’m such a fucking idiot… What he did…so fucking weak.” Wally’s shoulders had stopped shaking, but wet tears still trailed from under his arm and down his freckled cheeks. He wiped his eyes and looked over helplessly to the green man.
“J’onn, what am I going to do now?”
The Martian had no answer for him, but he was saved the necessity to respond by the arrival of Bruce Wayne, his ever faithful butler in tow with a cart brimming with food.
Wally had never been so happy to see food in his entire life.
