Chapter 13: Tables Turned- Part 2

The ground was rushing toward her faster than she could stop. Alexandra crashed full force onto a parked SUV, totally obliterating the vehicle in the process. There was nothing left except a few torn up pieces of twisted metal. She slowly crawled out of the wreckage still stunned from the impact, as well as the two mysterious bolts of lightning, that had caused her fall in the first place.
“You?!” said Alexandra looking up just in time to see a well built, dark haired man touch down.
Captain Marvel hovered several inches above the ground with his muscular arms crossed over the gold lightning bolt emblazoned on his costume. “I suggest you give up now, miss.”
“Why of course,” The female parasite smiled as she maneuvered to within striking distance. If she could just get close enough to drain him it would add a significant boost to her current power levels. “But how about giving me a kiss first!”
She lunged forward intending to grab a hold him, but he was too fast. With speed rivaling Superman’s, Captain Marvel easily side stepped and clocked the villainess with a right cross that sent her crashing into the side of an abandoned building. The old brick and concrete gave way under the force and came tumbling down on top of her.
The Captain dusted his hands off. “You didn’t think it’d be that easy did you? And don’t even think about trying to use your power stealing ability against me.”
Alexandra burst free from the debris and rocketed toward the crimson attired hero. This time she connected with a flying kick to the chest that sent him bouncing down the street.
She rushed after him in hot pursuit, trying to grab him before he had a chance to get his bearings. “Just make it easier on yourself and let me drain you dry, Captain!”
Marvel quickly recovered and dodged her once again, but this time Alexandra let loose with a burst of heat vision. The crimson beams shot out from her eyes, catching the superhero off guard. He managed to bring his hands up in time to shield himself from the brunt of the blast but it still stung like hell.
That was all it took to confirm what he had feared. The flight, super strength, invulnerability, and now heat vision- he had put it all together.
“What have you done with Superman?” Captain Marvel demanded. “I know you’ve taken his powers.”
“Don’t worry you’ll be joining him soon enough,” she retorted.
As his opponent turned up the intensity of the blast, a thought occurred to him. Each time Alexandra used her stolen powers they slowly got used up. If he could bait her into using a lot of her power at once or simply prolong the fight, then she would gradually weaken to the point where he could take her out with no problem. All he had to do was keep out of her reach until then. Keeping with his plan, Captain Marvel began flying above her in fast, short loops.
“Hold still!” Alexandra shouted with frustration. She took the bait, just as he’d hoped, and fired beam after beam trying to hit him.
Judging from the strength and intensity of each subsequent attack, the superhero could tell the villainess’ powers were already starting to wane. In her anger she didn’t realize he was merely making her waste precious energy and charged him head on once more.
Like a batter waiting for the perfect pitch, Captain Marvel uprooted a ten foot long metal lamppost, wound up, and clobbered her high into the air. Captain Marvel rushed up to meet her and at the peak of her ascent, smashed Alexandra back down to earth with a tremendous overhead swing.
She left a large crater in the street as she struggled much more slowly to her feet than before. The female parasite was breathing heavily and could feel her powers rapidly fading. She was in serious trouble.
Not giving her a chance to recover, the Captain utilized the Speed of Mercury and began pummeling his opponent with lightning fast blows. He was barely visible to her, just a blur of red and gold. Over and over again he landed punch after punch totally unhindered until she finally went down.
“Now to get you locked away in a meta-human prison where you can’t hurt anyone else,” he said, satisfied with his victory. “Then I’ll find out what you’ve done with Superman.”
Captain Marvel felt a sudden, strong gust of wind and turned to see Supergirl standing behind him.
“There’s no need to wait for that, Captain” she said, sounding gravely serious. “I can tell you exactly where he is.”

Tangle awoke to strange surroundings. There was a dull ache on her entire right side from lying too long on the stainless steel, rock hard excuse for a bed and her head still hurt from the blow she had received.
To her surprise and dismay it looked like she was in some sort of holding cell- three drab, concrete walls with a foreboding row of metal bars in front. Even worse, her utility belt and gear were all gone and both of her hands were shackled behind her back.
“About time,” said voice on the other side of the bars. “Guess he hit you harder than he thought.”
With a little effort, Tangle managed to sit up. “You…how did I get..” She started but stopped, still confused by the whole situation.
“After you sneak attacked me on the roof, my buddy Nightwing spotted us and took you out,” Robin explained. “Good thing he happened to be in the area.”
Now she remembered everything. How she had gotten the jump on the Boy Wonder and even incapacitated him. Tangle couldn’t help but feel cheated and a little angry. After all, she had beaten Robin all by herself, and only with sheer luck had he managed to turn the tables to the current state. Still, she thought it best to play her cards carefully for now.
“Where am I?” she asked.
“You don’t need to worry about that,” he answered curtly. “I’ll bet you’re pretty thirsty though. You were out for quite a while.”
He was right. Tangle’s throat was absolutely parched.
Robin walked closer to the bars of the cell and held up a tall glass of water with a straw bobbing up and down in the middle. “Go ahead,” he encouraged. “It’s ice cold.”
Tangle approached him, a little uneasily, and thought she caught the slightest hint of a grin on his face. Still, she wasn’t about to turn down his offer and readily leaned forward to take a long, refreshing drink. But just before her lips could close around the straw, he quickly pulled the glass away. Tangle looked at him with a puzzled expression.
“Not so fast. First, I need you to tell me where Batman is.”
“What? I…I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she lied.
“Well that’s too bad.” Robin couldn’t help taking a bit of pleasure watching Tangle’s face as he slowly poured the water out. It splashed and formed into a little pool on the concrete floor before going down a small drain. “I guess you didn’t really want that drink after all.”
Tangle angrily clenched her fists behind her back and pulled at the cuffs around her wrists. But she managed to keep her cool for the most part as getting upset would not help her chances of making it out of this situation.
“I guess I deserved that for attacking you on the roof,” she said sullenly, looking downward. “You probably won’t believe me but… I’m sorry. I really didn’t want to.”
Robin was almost certain that she was lying but for some reason there was a strong twinge of doubt. She was just so beautiful, so vulnerable looking- he wanted to believe her. Could she really be an evil super villain?
“So who put you up to it then?” he asked. “Who do you work for?”
“I can’t say.”
“You mean you won’t.”
“Look, if I tell you who it is they’d kill m- -ouch-” Tangle suddenly winced in pain.
“What’s wrong?” Robin questioned with his arms crossed.
“Do you think you could loosen these cuffs a little?” she asked innocently. “They’re so tight and I’m already locked in this cell anyway.”
The Boy Wonder looked at her a little skeptically. “I don’t think I can do…”
“Please?” Tangle smiled shyly. “I promise I won’t try anything and I’ll answer any other questions you ask.”
“Anything?”
Tangle nodded. “Whatever you want, cutie.”
Robin hesitated for a moment. He knew that he could handle her with no problem and that she had only gotten lucky before. And even then she hadn’t really harmed him while he was blinded when she easily could have. Also, what she had said about already being locked in the cell was true. Surely there could be no harm in her request. But just as he was about to reach into his belt for the keys, Tangle started swaying unsteadily before stumbling back a few steps.
“Hey, are you okay?” he asked concernedly.
“Sorry, I just… feel a little dizzy.”
“Alright just hold on a second and I’ll check you out.” Robin began hurriedly unlocking the cell door.
Tangle took a couple of awkward steps toward him. “Robin. My head …I-I don’t feel so good,” she said weakly before collapsing into his arms.

“He’s gone!” Lace bolted out of the room in a panic. “Batman is gone!”
“What do you mean?” asked Lasso Girl as she came running up. “He was still in there when I checked on him ten minutes ago.”
“Well he’s not there now. He must’ve found some way to escape.”
Sure enough the Dark Knight was nowhere to be found. The locks on the chains that had bound him had all miraculously been picked and were lying uselessly on the floor.
“We should check to make sure Superman is still- -”
“Shhh, wait a minute,” whispered Lasso Girl, cupping her hand over Lace’s mouth. “Batman is still here somewhere. I know it. He wouldn’t leave without trying to rescue Superman and he sure as hell wouldn’t leave without trying to take us down. Come on-this way.”
As the two women quickly sprinted out of the room, Lace was immediately grabbed from behind and pulled to the side by unseen hands.
“How did you get loose?” demanded Lasso Girl.
Batman emerged from the shadows, holding Lace in an arm lock. She struggled mightily but was unable to break his grasp.
“You might have thought you had all the angles figured, but you forgot to check my boot,” the Dark Knight explained. “I always keep a spare lock pick on me.”
“I bet you think you’re really clever, huh?” Lasso Girl smirked. “But there’s no way you’re going to make it out of he—”
The villainess beauty was cut off as Superman grabbed her from behind in a bear hug.
The Man of Steel locked his hands together around her arms and torso. “It’s all over, Lasso Girl. This ends now!”
