The Emotional Spectrum
Chapter 11: Battle at the Center of the Universe~*~
The Guardians of the Universe, sentient beings so old most of their history has been lost to time. Eons ago the Oans created the Green Lantern Corp to maintain order throughout the universe.
The guardians were currently in a closed session trying to discern the source of the large energy flux from sector 666 when Krona’s teleportation rift opened and the former Oan scientist floated in with his honor guard following close behind him.“Krona!” One of the nameless guardians cried out.“Greetings brothers… and, goodbye.”As if coming out of the shadows the guardians watched as seven colorful individuals manifested before their eyes, floated past their master and took up an aggressive stance before them. Despite never laying eyes on the people before them there was no doubt in any of the minds of the guardians that these individuals were the offspring of Kyle Rayner, the torchbearer. Whether they were male or female, the resemblance to him was uncanny, as was their mastery of the powers of the emotional spectrum. The guardians moved to defend themselves but the entities attacked in unity and at their full power levels quickly overwhelmed the ancient beings that rarely ever physically involved themselves in any matter. Binding the guardians around the center of the chamber, Krona waved his hand and the floor bellow his feet opened. Mechanical gears, long since dormant, made an eerie grinding sound as they lifted something from the catacombs of Oa. All watched as Krona’s Gauntlet of Power, the first device ever to harness the emotional spectrum came into view. Krona floated above the gauntlet and extending his arms released seven emerald tendrils that pierced the bodies of his former associates.“NOW!!!” Krona ordered. At his word, the children poured their power into the guardian causing the ancient beings to scream in agony as the energy of the emotional entities was poured into the Oans and then siphoned from them into Krona. The light coming from the former guardian blinded all those present. Krona’s cries filled the chamber room but they were not of pain, no they were the cries of triumph. As the emerald light dimmed all could see that Krona’s body was now the size of the average human Green Lantern. His former associate’s bodies were decaying now that the power transfer was complete but the last thing they registered in their brains before turning to dust was the sight of Krona standing tall and laughing maniacally as he removed the gauntlet from its case. The device he first used to defeat the Manhunters was once more in his grasp. Now, with the knowledge he’d gained and the power at his fingertips he would recreate reality.“Krona.” A voice called out. Krona grinned wickedly as he turned to face Salaak and a large contingent of Green Lanterns.“Salaak isn’t it? Have you and your fellow lanterns come to witness the recreations of the universe?” Krona inquired insincerely. He knew the answer but made the snide statement anyways.Kilowog, the former drill sergeant for the Green Lantern Corp, answered Krona by leveling his right arm and firing a blast of emerald energy at the mad scientist, as did Salaak.Krona easily deflected the blast with his gauntlet and his evil grin returned. “Have it your way then. Entities… destroy the Green Lanterns!”The seven entities acknowledged the order and began their assault on the lanterns.~*~
Rocketing through space at faster than light speed, Kyle Rayner cut through the darkness as he raced to Oa. Kyle had ordered the ring to take the quickest course to Oa instructing his ring to fly as fast as possible without killing anything sentient that it might collide with. The ring understood its instructions and Kyle was little more than a passenger as he tried to push the reality of the situation from his mind. Until today he had thought that he was only the father of three amazing children by his lovely wife.
The reality of course was that he was the father of ten children. He had somehow fathered seven additional children, each with a woman directly connected to him in some fashion. The worst part of this situation was that three of the woman; Sora, Donna and Merayn meant a great deal to him. Aimee was a concern of his as she was Alex’s sister, but did not hold a place in his heart like Sora and Donna or even Merayn. The final three women were hardly women he’d have considered dating, much less fathering their children but even those three did not deserve to have their bodies violated and then have their children ripped from them after carrying them for several months.Kyle cleared his mind as he slowed his descent into Oa’s atmosphere. He could tell he was already too late to stop Krona as a large group of lanterns were thrown unceremoniously from the central chamber. Kyle created multiple appendages from his ring and managed to catch the lanterns before they could be smashed into one of Oa’s very sturdy structures.Kyle watched as another contingent of lanterns flew into the citadel only for their screams to suddenly fill the hallway. Kyle knew their fates the instant a ring for each of the fallen lanterns rocketed out of the citadel and flew off to find a worthy candidate to be a Green Lantern. Kyle created a structure to block the citadel entrance to keep more lanterns from entering the fray. The lanterns were on the verge of attacking before they realized that the Torchbearer was blocking they way.“Lanterns…” Kyle bellowed. “This is not a fight you can win.”Looking into the faces of the various lanterns he stated, “Secure the area, no Green Lantern enters here without my say so.” Kyle ordered. The lanterns reluctantly agreed and began taking up positions around the citadel. As an honor guard Kyle Rayner answered directly to the Guardians and in the case of an emergency, Salaak. As the torchbearer he carried the same rank as Salaak who also answered to no one save the Guardians. Kyle flew through the halls and was immediately met by Krona the Mad and his now adult children.“Greetings torchbearer,” Krona announced. “It is an honor to have you here at this momentous occasion.”Kyle took in his situation as Krona began his monologue. Kyle knew that he was outclassed by one entity, not to mention Krona himself, but all seven entities… his odds were grim indeed. From the looks of things most of the senior lanterns were still alive. They were simply incapacitated. Such was not the case with all however. Bodies were strung about, in various states of dismemberment while others were blown to bits.“Krona…” Kyle was having a difficult time finding the words to express his outrage at what the former guardian has done.“Why… why me?” Kyle managed to ask.“Kyle Rayner of sector 2814… you ask the question… but isn’t it obvious? I chose you because you are unique. Your body’s DNA was re-written twice, once as the host of Ion and again as the host of Parallax. Your unborn child was to be a magnificent entity in its own right. Alas…”“What unborn child?” Kyle asked in anger.Krona grinned. It never occurred to him that Rayner was unaware of what actually occurred. He actually wondered if the mother truly realized what happened.“Why Kyle… the child that Lianna murdered all that time ago.”Kyle immediately flashed back to standing here a few years back and having a conversation with Jen. She thought she was pregnant… but it had only been a scare. She hadn’t been pregnant…“Your child would have taken Sodam Yat’s place as the ultimate Green Lantern. A child of Ion and the Starheart… imagine all that power in one being.” Krona stated.“I knew the prophecy… only recently did I think to make it a reality once more.” The rogue guardian stated. He took a moment to let that sink in before continuing his tirade.“Using your DNA, the entities and the mothers of a ring bearer… the possibilities were limitless.”Kyle looked at the seven children before him; the boys all resembled him despite three of them having their mother’s complexions. His daughters were all mirror images of their mothers save for his eyes. Their skin color was a lighter shade of each of their mothers due to their human heritage but Kyle could see the resemblance regardless.“You have the power you want Krona. Please… release my children.” Kyle pleaded.Krona simply sneered at the request. “Entities… kill your father.”Kyle watched as Parallax and Ophidian eagerly moved to kill him. The boys, whose names he did not know, powered up and prepared to unleash their might upon him until a blast of violet light crashed into the pair. Krona turned to see Lianna rushing towards him. Krona leveled his gauntlet on her but could not fire before her fist connected with his face. Krona fell to the ground in pain. The guardian trembled as he tried to heft himself off the ground. He registered but did not see the Amazonian like foot that raked his face. Krona cried out in physical agony as the enraged hybrid proceeded to pummel him. The entities were moving to attack but were met by each of their mothers and a contingent of Terran superheroes.Kyle picked Ophidian to attack first as he was the closest. Sinthia was utilizing the power of her orange ring to try and contain her son but was ill prepared for the sheer power the snake like entities possessed. Sinthia gasped as the young man flexed his muscles and shattered her orange containment field to shards of orange energy. Moving in on her like an earth snake moves in on its prey, Ophidian created a sabre like blade and with one swift thrust impaled his mother through her heart with the energy blade. Her eyes widened, then glazed over as her son said, “I take the name Korg Rayner… and I calm your power as my own.”Sinthia’s last breath left her body as Ophidian reabsorbed the energy construct. With her lifeless body lying on the chamber floor, Korg removed his mother’s ring from her hand and absorbed it into himself. All nearby watched as Sinthia’s body disintegrated before their eyes.Ophidian’s gloating was his undoing however. Wasting no more time, Kyle created a large war hammer and brought it down across his son’s head. The power that the entity wielded protected him from the brunt of the attack but the blow did manage to daze Korg. Kyle re-enforced the construct and began wailing on his son. He knew deep down that this was an infant, possessed by a god like being. However if he let up for even a moment he would end up like Sinthia.Ophidian tried to mount an offense but the most it accomplished was a blast of energy that knocked Rayner from his feet. Kyle’s will was the strongest it had ever been, as he was not fighting for himself, he was fighting for his children. The entity shook its head and tried to collect itself when it felt odd. The sensation was a familiar one but it did not know what was happening until it found itself forcefully pried from its host body and trapped inside two green lantern power batteries. The lanterns were in the hands of Salaak and Kilowog who were once again conscious and ready to fight. Korg, deprived of the orange entity, passed out from physical exhaustion. The senior lanterns helped Kyle up who then instructed them to help Lyssa Drak by attacking Parallax.~*~
Lyssa was doing her best to battle her son while not doing his body any harm, a task made very difficult as Parallax did not hold back its attacks upon her.
“How could you mother.” Parallax stated through her son.“I am not your mother Parallax. You will leave my son… NOW!!!” She screamed in rage as she blasted the fear entity with a burst of yellow energy.Parallax shrugged off the blast but it was obvious that he was now very annoyed with his opponent. He had sensed Ophidian’s fall and realized that the Green Lanterns would try and trap him within power batteries again. This would not, could not be allowed to occur again. Parallax then felt the sting of an emerald energy blast along its spine. Craning its head around, it found itself trapped between its host’s mother and father.“Hello father.” Parallax stated through the male Talokian.“Release my son Parallax.” Kyle stated. Kyle was still wielding his war hammer and was hoping that his stratagem would work as well on Parallax as it had on Ophidian.“Never. This body is the perfect host for me. It is very powerful, yet a virtual blank slate. I will mold him into the ultimate being, and we will spread fear throughout the universe for eons.”Parallax was so concentrated on tormenting Kyle that it never saw Lyssa move. Using her power ring she created an energy tendril and wrapped it around her son. She then channeled all of her emotions through it and into the avatar of fear. “Give me back my SON!” Lyssa Drak screamed.Parallax laughed at her anguished cry and broke free of its bonds. “You think to capture me with my own power. I am the embodiment of fear. You wear my ring. There is nothing you can do to hurt me.”Parallax morphed its host’s body into a large hulking male and batted the Talokian away like she was nothing. All present heard the sounds of bones cracking at the impact.“Pathetic.” Parallax declared.“Your constructs are feeble and lack substance. You don’t possess the necessary fear any longer to properly wield a yellow ring.” Parallax decreed.Kyle launched his energy weapon at Parallax and struck his son at the base of his skull sending the large male crashing down to the floor. The blow stunned Parallax, knocking him from his feet. Kilowog and Hal Jordan, newly arrived with the re-enforcements, gave Kyle the time he needed to attend to Lyssa Drak.“Are you ok?” Kyle asked the mother of his child. He didn’t know why but he felt genuine concern for her welfare.Lyssa could not answer the man who had fathered her child. Her eyes were full of tears from pain, and sorrow. She could feel her broken ribs pressing against her lungs and was having difficulty breathing. After finding the strength to shake her head, Kyle had his ring do a quick medical scan of her. The ring informed her of her rapidly declining condition and of the fact that her power ring was no longer active.“Your ring…” Kyle started to say.“Gckkk… I… I nah… no… lng… longer p… p… possess t… fur… t… uzz… t.” Lyssa Drak said to the best of her ability. She raised her ring hand and held it out to Kyle. Slowly grasping what she was implying, Kyle removed the yellow ring of the Sinestro Corp from her hand.“Why?” Kyle asked.Lyssa raised her hands and removed Kyle’s mask so that she could see his whole face for the very first time. Dropping it to the ground with a thud, she placed her hands on his cheeks.“Ah… I… lv… lve…”Holding a finger to her lips, Kyle Rayner stopped her declaration. Not because he didn’t want to hear her declaration, but because he didn’t want her to exert herself in her last moments.“I know.” Kyle finally said, because he finally did.~*~
While Kyle attended to the former Sinestro Corp member Donna Troy, Soranik Natu and Merayn Dethalis were tag teaming their children with the help of Guy Gardner and John Stewart. Merayn used her mastery of the Light of Hope to supercharge the three Green Lantern rings and the trio were holding their own against Proselyte and Ion. Adara, the entity of Hope was currently being antagonized Aimee DeWitt, wielding an enhanced version of the Red Ring while working in tandem with Salaak using his enhanced emerald power ring to keep the Butcher occupied, much to the beasts dismay.
Unnoticed by most due to the madness transpiring around them, the Predator, in possession of Kyle’s son, floated above everyone doing absolutely nothing save observing. The very events transpiring bellow him, the single act of love being displayed by the various mothers, friends, and his father were fighting against Krona’s orders to kill. He was the entity of love, not murder. He watched as his siblings Hope, Compassion, and went against their nature as well based solely on Krona’s order. Greed was incapacitated and his sibling lay comatose for the moment. The male Zamoran/human hybrid used his god like power and teleported the young man away from the fight for the time being. As he gazed down he saw love dying before his very eyes and knew that he must act to preserve it. Putting his hands together, the blue skinned male concentrated, and when his task was complete he tossed to object to the woman bellow him.“Use it well.” The young man stated.~*~
Kyle Rayner did not know what it was that launched him from Lyssa’s side but when after regaining his bearings saw that the mother of his Talokian child was adorned in the violet light wielding a violet power ring.Lyssa Drak, you have great love in your heart,Welcome to the Star Sapphire Corp.
Lyssa Drak was floating above Kyle. Her sultry yellow Sinestro Corp uniform melted away into the same violet Star Sapphire uniform that Carol Ferris and Yrra Cynril currently wore. Her wounds were healed and she looked more alive than Kyle ever remembered seeing her. Lyssa flew in front of Kyle and before the Terran male knew what was happening was enveloped in a very passionate kiss.“That was in case I never get another chance.” The still sultry Talokian informed Kyle. “Now… let’s go free out son.”Kyle Rayner, blushing profusely, nodded in agreement and the pair flew, hand in hand, after their son with the expressed intention of ripping the fear entity from his body.Parallax was moving in on momentarily stunned Jordan with Kilowog trying to muzzle the beast, now in a variation of its true form, stood on the entity’s back when a violet beam of solid energy struck it from behind. Parallax screamed as its host’s parents pressed their attacked. Kilowog pulled his dazed friend from the vicinity while Kyle and Lyssa began working over the fear entity.“Die… Die DAMN YOU!!!” Parallax screamed as it launched several energy blasts at the pair only to miss them and create a large opening in the ceiling.Kyle flew around the blasts and avoided every single one while Lyssa shielded herself from the debris. This gave Parallax the opening it needed. Creating energy claws, Parallax arced its body behind its host’s mother and plunged its claws through her beating heart. Unfortunately for Parallax the moment it took to cackle in victory was the moment that Kyle Rayner used to reach into the beast and using all of his willpower, forcibly extract it from his son’s body. Parallax screamed as Kyle encased the entity in a green casket and dropped it into the very bowels of Oa.The Predator caught his half siblings motionless body and using the power at its disposal laid him to rest next to Lyssa. Blood was seeping out of Lyssa’s body, as were tears from her eyes. Kyle turned her so that she could see their son still living body next to her.“Thank you Kyle.” Lyssa stated.“For what?” Kyle inquired.“For saving Drakon… our son. I… I know it wasn’t… you that took me… but it was you… that gave me what… no one else had…”“What was that?” Kyle asked.“Love...” Lyssa then withdrew something and placed it in Kyle’s right hand. “Your love…” And before she could finish he sentence she was gone.Kyle knew that he unfortunately had no time for grieving and taking only a moment to look at the small wrapped object, opened a fissure into subspace and placed the small item besides his lantern. A dark look came over Kyle Rayner as he launched himself in the direction of the nearest entity.“Aimee, duck!” Kyle yelled before tackling his third son.~*~
Krona the Mad was experiencing new forms of pain as Lianna redecorated the citadel floor with his body. His Oan blood littered the floor as she lifted him up and smashed him into the unforgiving rock-like floor.
“Your plans are foiled mad one. You will never harm another being again.” Lianna stated. Everyone present watched as Lianna wrested the gauntlet from Krona by ripping his arm from its body. Removing his arm, Lianna replacing it with her own and focusing her will through the gauntlet, vaporized the demented Oan scientist. The instant that Krona ceased to exist the various entities that had been under his thrall stopped fighting. The Children of Rayner all dropped to the floor and waited for their new keeper to determine their fates.Kyle floated over to the woman he now had more reason to hate but did not give away that he now knew this. “Thank you Lianna.” Kyle Rayner stated as he neared her. When he was within arms reach Lianna backhanded him sending him flying across the room.Donna Troy flew with the speed of Hermes and caught her former lover before he was smashed to a pulp against the hard wall. Kyle spat blood from his mouth as he gazed upon the mother of his child. Green smoke permeated from her eyes as her optic orbs flashed green themselves.“Power… I have the power to do what Krona could not… create a truly perfect world… a world so perfect, none of you have a place in it!” Lianna decreed as she gazed upon all of the lanterns and entities. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
