Mr. Perfect
Maximus Carlton was not at all what Terry expected.
And he didn’t like it one bit.
Maximus was wealthy. He not only cornered but monopolized the market on cybernetics and robotics. His company produced members of the police, soldiers for armies, workers for companies, and even maids for domestic homes. Carlton Enterprises owned its own steel factory, computer engineering firm, structural designs and concepts agencies…the list went on and on. His company was a powerhouse, so wealthy he could buy countries with ease. Making the purchase of his young bride child’s play, but no less sickening to Terry.
Terry had known Maximus was wealthy, but he had no idea the range of the man’s influence. Maximus had friends in the government. Nearly every government in the world, to be exact. His company was responsible for a large percentage of global business and marketing with the vast network of companies it controlled. If anything were to happen to Carlton Enterprises, global economy would either collapse due to loss of resources, or flourish if a smaller series of companies could step in to fill the massive business’ shoes. Terry was a firm believer in capitalism. He suspected other rival companies would be only too glad to bridge the gap left behind after the fall of Carlton Enterprises. Besides, if it meant freeing Lora from marriage to the controlling bastard, Terry would happily-and selfishly-toss the entire planet into a state of chaos if need be.
Terry didn’t fear Maximus’ money.
He also didn’t give a shit about Maximus’ considerable connections.
What pissed him off and filled him with doubt was Maximus’ looks.
The man was gorgeous. Fucking perfect. To look at him, you would never think he was a deranged psychopath. In fact, Terry had a hunch if he was a woman and looking at pictures of Maximus, the only thing he’d be able to think of was how to get the man in bed. As it was, Terry was straight and still in awe of Maximus’ beauty. Maximus was tall, broad shouldered, and extremely fit. To put it mildly. His face was a study in sensuality, his mouth hinted at sin, and his eyes were downright lustful. But what really made Terry uneasy was the fact that Maximus had black hair and blue eyes. Just like Allen…What that meant, if it meant anything, was not something Terry wanted to think about. Maybe Lora just liked black hair and blue eyes. Terry had a fetish for brunettes, himself. He could hardly blame her for having a type. But it really bothered him to be identical in coloration to her husband. And it infuriated him to be less attractive then Maximus, but he knew he was. Terry had never been self conscious before he met Lora, but after seeing her husband, he realized he definitely had a reason to be. Maximus was what every woman wanted…except his own wife. Now why was the question.
Terry hadn’t been able to ask her about that aspect of her life yet, not in either of his guises. If he were to ask as Terry, that would be highly invasive since the only thing they did was have sex…wonderful, mind blowing, breathtaking sex…as if on cue, his penis decided to wake up and say hello. Terry sighed in defeat as he shifted in his chair until his erection strained with slightly less force against the seam of his pants. “Good morning to you, too,” he grumbled, embarrassed at his lack of control over his body when it came to Lora.
“What was that?” Bruce asked from the other end of the table, making Terry glance up with an expression at once surprised and embarrassed.
“Uh, nothing, just talking to myself,” Terry replied so quickly that Bruce arched an eyebrow at him.
They both knew he was lying, but Terry really didn’t feel like discussing his perpetual erection with Bruce. Guys talked about a lot of things, but a man had to draw the line somewhere. There was a moment of tense silence as Bruce studied his face, but the older man apparently decided it wasn’t worth investigating, because he grunted, shrugged his shoulder and went back to reading the section of the file he had on Maximus. Terry breathed a sigh of relief and then blankly stared at the pictures in front of him. Maximus’ perfect face smiled up at him, his grin confident and arrogant. He was a man who knew exactly how attractive he was. Why had Lora left this man? He was one of the wealthiest people in the world, he was so good looking it was sickening, and he obviously adored his wife, the way he fought against her getting a divorce. And why did he have to share a similar look with Terry?
Dropping his head to his hands, he softly groaned. Of all the things for his mind to fixate on, his similarity to her husband-at least in appearances-was not what he should be thinking of. It shouldn’t matter, but it sure as hell did. Just as much as the fact that Maximus was better looking.
“I forgot how much of a looker this guy is,” Bruce commented, his voice deceptively bland.
Terry’s teeth gritted in blind rage for a moment, his fragile ego shrieking at the obvious reference to his rival’s looks. But then suspicion reared its head. When did Bruce pay attention to another man’s looks? Never. And he sure as hell never talked about it. Terry raised his head, eyes narrowed, and said, “Ha ha.”
Bruce leaned back in his chair and gave that insufferable grin that made Terry want to punch his face. “Uh huh, I thought as much.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Terry snapped.
Bruce’s grin widened, looking downright evil. “You’re jealous of that man.”
“Why would I be jealous of him? He’s old and crazy, and Lora left him years ago,” Terry scoffed.
Bruce crossed his arms and said. “He’s hardly what I’d call old, and it’s true that Lora left him. But he’s also the best looking man I’ve ever seen, and he happens to share a few traits with you. Black hair, blue eyes, athletic build-”
“I get the point,” Terry snarled, pushing his chair back and jumping to his feet in agitation.
Bruce frowned at him as he turned to leave the room. “Where are you going?”
“Out,” Terry called, not bothering to turn around.
“Tell Mrs. Carlton I said hello,” Bruce tauntingly retorted.

Lora had finally managed to organize her bedroom. All of her clothes were put away, her shoes were neatly stacked and her accessories were organized. No thanks to Dane. The worthless lout had gone into hiding yet again, but Lora didn’t mind. She preferred the peace and quiet to his gentle teasing. He seemed to think she was developing a crush on Allen. The idea was absurd. She already had a lover, she didn’t need a boyfriend too. A man was good, but men only got in the way. Sighing to herself, she went into the bathroom and began digging through her endless bottles of body lotion. The menial chore didn’t put Allen from her mind. He really was a handsome young man. He reminded her of Jason, with his black hair and blue eyes. He also resembled Maximus, but Allen’s personality made her think of Jason rather then her husband, although Lora knew if Allen realized she thought of her beloved ex lover every time she looked at him, it would annoy him. She couldn’t help it, though. Allen was very similar to Jason: he was sweet, intelligent, and funny. He had such a warm personality, and she instinctively knew he would be fiercely loyal to any woman he made his own. It was too bad she didn’t want a boyfriend. He would be ideal.
Shaking her head in alarm, she straightened up and stared at her reflection in the bathroom mirror. What was she thinking? She hardly knew Allen! For all she knew, he could be pretending to be nice, or even worse…he could be given to extremes of behavior, nice one moment and vicious the next. Maximus had been that way with her. Sometimes he would hurt her, usually when he forced her to bed, but most times he was very kind to her. She knew he had mistresses, but she also knew that he loved her in a sick way. He had never talked to any of his women around her, and if they were out together in public and a lover of his happened to cross their path, he completely ignored the woman.
There had been one model that had run into them at a fundraiser. Lora knew she had been with Maximus in the past, but he had ignored her, his attention focused on his wife. The model hadn’t taken the hint, thinking to shame Lora a little and let the world know not only was she his mistress but also the leading woman in his life, the model had come up to them, placed a hand on Maximus’ arm and started to whisper in his ear. The model hadn’t understood, though. No matter how many women he fucked, Lora was the only one he loved. He might not care if the world knew he had mistresses, but he definitely cared that the world knew his wife was the one who had his heart. Maximus had immediately slapped the model’s hand away and told her to get out of his sight. He had ended their relationship that night with one curt phone call, after seeing his wife home and putting her to bed.
Maximus was a confusing, complex man. He loved her, but he was violent, and so that love was not stable, not something she wanted to be tied to for the rest of her life. In fact, she had experienced such a wide array of emotions while with him that she now had no desire to ever settle down with any man again.
Lora was just about to return to sifting through her river of lotions when Dane suddenly materialized in the doorway, an annoying smirk on his face. “Just thought I’d let you know that your lover boy is here.”
Lora blinked at him in surprise, but before she could speak he went on.
“Oh, and just in case you’re not sure which one I mean, it’s the one that hasn’t gotten any,” Dane finished with a chuckle.
Lora glared at him and then flung a lotion bottle at his head. As she marched past him he held the bottle up and said, “Wait, don’t you want to take this with you? I’m sure Allen would love to put it to good use.”
Lora ignored him and went downstairs. She could hear Allen’s car pulling up in front of the house. She waited until she heard him walk up to the door, and then swung it open before he had a chance to knock.
Allen blinked at her in surprise and then grinned. “Hi.”
“Hello,” Lora returned, her voice even, though she knew Dane was undoubtedly somewhere nearby, listening. The damned ogre.
Terry shifted nervously, desperately wanting to demand she tell him about her relationship with Maximus and knowing he couldn’t. But he was tempted to. She stood there looking at him with expectant eyes, her pretty mouth turned up at the corners. He wanted to lean forward and run his tongue over the edge of her lips before slipping it into her mouth and…With a groan he felt his penis nod in agreement. “Uh, I, er, well, would you like to go to lunch or something?” he babbled, nervously shifting from side to side, trying to hide the evidence of his arousal.
Lora watched him in confusion, and then nodded. She had no idea why Allen was dancing around, but she didn’t want to have any discussions with him in Dane’s vicinity. For all she knew her bodyguard could be swinging from the chandelier in an attempt to hear what they were saying without being seen. She got a nice picture of him falling off the chandelier and plummeting to the ground, and gave a smug smile. “Yes, lunch would be great.”
Ahead of her, Allen grinned and reached out to grab her hand. Behind her, she thought she heard a sigh of disappointment.
