The Switcheroo

“The Puppet King is in command.”

That statement, strangely enough, comes from a puppet, a living puppet that’s now controlling the fate of 3 Teen Titans. After transporting their essences from their bodies into puppets, he planned on using the soulless Titans to rule Jump City, then the world. But he forgot two.

“RAVEN!!!” It’s Starfire’s voice, but it doesn’t come from her mouth. Instead of having their essences deposited into puppets, Raven spoke a spell that casted out darkness, causing her to simply switch with Starfire, avoiding the puppets & putting their essences within each other. Since then things have grown even more complicated, but they’ve now learned how to use each other’s powers enough to help their friends, who now need them.

“NO!!!” Raven yells in Starfire’s body, as she fires a Starbolt at the Puppet King, who’s running towards his cauldron to dispose of the puppets that hold the essences of Robin, Beast Boy & Cyborg. The starbolt hits the cauldron & shatters it. The impact of the explosion also causes the Puppet King to drop his control. It almost breaks in to upon impact on the ground.

“NOOOOOOOOO!!!!” Puppet King cries, but it’s of no use. The essences of the three Titans emerge from the puppets and head back into their original bodies. Starfire & Raven’s essences also emerge but…

…In the confusion, there’s a mix-up.

The spell that Puppet King cast on Robin, Beast Boy & Cyborg finally affects Starfire & Raven, and it causes their essences to remain were they are, trapped in each other’s bodies. The darkness also overtakes them, putting dark influences inside of them. After it’s all over, Cyborg does a body check.

“Is everybody cool?” Cyborg asks.

“Other than the fact I feel like I’ve been on the Twirl-A-Hurl a hundred times, I’m good.” Beast Boy says, feeling the after effects of the process.

“So am I.” Robin adds. “Raven? Star? Are you OK?”

“I am fine, Robin. But…there is a problem.” Starfire says, still inside of Raven’s body.

“The Spell, it didn’t work for you.” Robin says. “We have to get Puppet King’s controller so we can…”

“NO!”

The Titans turn towards the direction of the yell to see Puppet King crawling towards his shattered controller. “The Magic! Without it, I’m just a…just a…” His eyes grow dead as the glow fades from them. His puppet body goes lifeless, leaving the team to wonder what they can do now. Cyborg walks over to the shattered controller and examines it.

“The controller’s seriously damaged.” He says. “It’ll take days just for me to fix it, much less work the damn thing.”

“You mean I have to remain looking like this forever?” Starfire asks in disbelief.

“What’s wrong with the way I look?” Raven asks her, getting annoyed.

“Nothing!” Starfire quickly answers.

“We’re gonna need some heavy magic to get Star & Raven back to normal.” Cyborg continues.

“Yeah, well it looks like Puppet King won’t be cooperating.” Beast Boy says.

“We won’t need him.” Robin chimes in. “Let’s head back to the Tower.”

Hours Later, back at Titans Tower…

“Zatanna.”

That’s the name Robin recommends as he sits with his team in the main room. It’s a name most of them agree with, since she’s one of the most powerful magi on Earth. Though she isn’t easy to find. But after a brief conversation with Alfred & a quick run through of the Bat-Computer, Robin has located her.

“You mean the hot chick that wears the fishnet stockings with the Top Hat?!” Beast Boy says, jumping out of his seat. “I volunteer to go on this mission to find her!” Before he can speak further, he finds his mouth magically sealed…surprisingly by Starfire still in Raven’s body.

“You’re learning.” Raven says, still inside of Starfire.

“No, I’m the one that has to go.” Robin says. “I’m most familiar with the area, and I know what to expect on the journey. Cyborg’s in charge until I get back. Hold down the…”

The Red Alert blares loudly, interrupting Robin’s speech. A vid-screen lowers in front of the team and shows the streets of Jump City being terrorized by Plasmus. Cyborg & the rest of the team look to Robin, wandering if they should take action.

“Go.” He says. “Protect the city. I’ll try to get to Zatanna as quick as I can.”

“You heard him, team!” Cyborg says, waving everybody to the T-Ship.

15 Minutes Later…

The citizens of Jump City are fleeing in terror from the streets as Plasmus storms forward. After a botched feeding by the guards at Jump City Prison, his human for woke up, morphing him back into the gelatinous form that roams the city blocks now. As he continues his rampage, he gets an unexpected surprise when a Sonic Cannon blast nails him in the side of his head. Stumbling into a building, he sees the source of the blast…Cyborg’s cannon.

“I don’t know who woke you up, but we’re here to put your lights back out!” Cyborg says. “Titans, GO!!!”

Charging into battle first is Starfire, who manages to channel enough of Raven’s power to lift a tanker & chuck it at Plasmus. But the Tanker does little effect, and he shakes it off as if it were nothing. Next up is Beast Boy. Morphing himself into a Mastodon, he charges Plasmus and locks into him with his massive tucks. For a moment, he overpowers Plasmus, pushing him back more than several feet. But it’s only for a moment, and Plasmus is able to lift Beast Boy off of the ground. He chucks him back at the Titans; or to be more exact, Raven.

“OOMPHH!!!” Beast Boy hits Raven, then morphs back to normal as the two hit the pavement. “How come I’m in Starfire’s body, but you still manage to land on me?”

“Brute force isn’t working.” Cyborg says, firing off a beam from his Sonic Cannon. It rips a hole into Plasmus, but the hole is quickly repaired, and Plasmus back to full strength.

“We need to put him back to sleep.” Raven says, freeing herself from Beast Boy and flying upward.

“How? It’s not like we can just go inside all of that goop and sing him a Lullaby!” Beast Boy debates. But his comment gives Cyborg an idea.

“Or maybe we can rock him to sleep.” He says. “RAVEN! STAR! Double team to enter Plasmus and knock him out from the inside.”

Immediately Raven looks at him in shock, not a fan of his plan. “You want us to go…inside of him?”

“You got a better plan?” Cyborg counters. Before Raven can answer, she feels Starfire’s hand (really Raven’s hand) grabbing her and pulling her forward. As they charge the monster, Starfire activates Raven’s magic and creates a dark energy barrier. A moment later, they dive within Plasmus and make their way to his center. Once they locate it, Starfire drops the shield.

“One chance at this…” Raven says, bringing her arm back. Coming into point blank range, she nails him with a haymaker, which knocks out his human form. Immediately the protoplasm surrounding him melts down, and splatters everywhere. Raven & Starfire are deposited away from him and hit the ground, covered in protoplasm. Cyborg & Beast Boy run over to them.

“Well, it was messy, but it’s still a victory.” Cyborg says.

“Yeah, and for the first time, I’M not the one who got covered in Goo!” Beast Boy adds, before dancing in celebration. But the dance is short-lived as Raven wipes the protoplasm off of her face, and flings it into Beast Boy’s.

It’s 2am, and Titan Tower is quiet. Cyborg & Beast Boy are in their respective quarters asleep, after a marathon of video games to celebrate tonight’s victory. Raven sighs heavily, fearing that neither she nor Starfire will make it through the night without something horrible, naughty & freaky happening.

15 Minutes later, in town…

A dark green Hawk floats above Jump City, looking down at the illuminated town until it spots its point of interest. The Hawk then swoops down to ground level…before morphing into Beast Boy as he lands in front of a damaged electronics store. “Then we have missed him.” Starfire says. “Now we can go home and…Beast Boy?”

His gaze has turned away from the crime scene, and across the street. Starfire turns to see exactly what he’s staring at, and sees a new Karaoke Club that just opened up. The neon sign reads ‘Free Karaoke Night.’ It might as well had said ‘Beast Boy come in.’
