Strange Dreams
The titans were sleeping peacefully except for Beast Boy. He was having a nightmare. In the dream, he was walking in an open meadow. It started as a paradise. “Dude,” Beast Boy said in the fantasy world, “this place is perfect. No problems, no fear, nog tog to bother me.” He walked further until he came to a thick forest. It seemed like a perfect place to take a stroll so BB did. He wandered through the forest, deeper and deeper. Soon he had no idea where he was. He panicked but didn’t wake up. “Dude,” Beast Boy said worried, “where am I?” He morphed into a dog and began trying to find his scent. He found the trail but it strangely lead away from his path. When he reached the other side of the woods he found another meadow but this one had a river on the far west. Beast Boy, exhausted and thirsty in his dream, wondered towards the sound of rushing water. He fell in front of the river. He kneeled and drank his fill. “That was refreshing,” BB said to himself.
Looking up, Beast Boy noticed a figure in the distance. He walked towards it, not knowing who or what is could be. As he ran the image ran away from him. “Wait,” Beast Boy shouted, “Come back! Who are you?” But there was no response. He changed into a cheetah, running faster and began to catch up. But before he could see a face a dark fog enveloped the field. “I can’t see anything,” Beast Boy called out, hoping whoever he was chasing would say something that could help him. He wandered aimlessly in blackness. “Please, help me,” Beast Boy shouted, “This isn’t funny.” He felt his feet landing on rocks. No longer was he in a meadow. Just as quickly as the fog appeared, it vanished. But he didn’t see whomever he was chasing. He or she had disappeared with the fog.
“Who was that,” Beast Boy asked himself. He looked around. He was standing on a mountain, alone. Then the earth began to shake. The ground split open and he fell into a deep chasm. The ground inched closer. Transforming into a hawk, Beast Boy flew to escape. He landed on the ledge and changed back. “Dude, that was close.” He stared down and saw what would surely have been his doom. He stood up but once again, the earth shook and Beast Boy was tossed from his perch. However, when he changed and flew up, rocks fell and knocked him to the ground. As he was about to strike the earth, the dream ended.
Beast Boy shuddered. “Dude, that is the second time I had that dream and it ends the same way all the time. What is going on?” The green titan looked around his dark room. He stared up at the ceiling. “What is with that fog and who or what was in the distance and where did it go,” Beast Boy said into space. It just seemed so strange to him that he would have a similar dream time and time again. He looked at his clock. “5:44” it read. “Dude, I need to sleep,” Beast Boy said as he turned over. He struggled to fall asleep but finally managed to have a pleasant two hours of sleep before having to start the day.
When Beast Boy awakened the second time, he felt exhausted. He wanted to sleep but there was no way that he could stay in bed. The others would be concerned. So, fighting his exhaustion, Beast Boy got up. “I need some breakfast,” Beast Boy said to himself as he rubbed his eyes. He looked around, trying to find a clean uniform. “Guess I should clean my room sometime,” he muttered as he reached in his closet. After he grabbed a clean uniform, he went to take a shower to wake himself up. Getting out, he got dressed and went down to get something to eat.
When he got downstairs, Robin, Starfire, and Raven were already there. “You guys are up early,” the green titan said. “Actually,” Robin said, “You’re up early.” Beast Boy looked at the clock. “Before eight,” he said, “guess so.” Beast Boy went to make some tofu eggs. “You guys want some,” he asked. “I already had some breakfast,” Robin said. “What about you, Star; you want some,” the changeling. “No thank you,” the Tameranian girl said, “I too have had my morning meal.” “No,” Raven said before Beast Boy could ask. Beast Boy went back to making his breakfast. When he was done, he sat down at the table and began to eat. But in the back of him mind, his dream was still haunting him.
“Something wrong, Beast Boy,” Robin asked. Beast Boy looked up from his plate. “Why, do I look like something is bothering me,” the green titan asked. “You are unusually quiet,” Robin said. “Not a bad change,” Raven said as she sipped her herbal tea and read one of her books. “Well, I do have something that is rattling my brain,” Beast Boy said, “Raven, don’t say it.” Raven smiled slightly. “Don’t say what,” she mockingly asked. “I didn’t know that you even had a brain,” Beast Boy said trying to sound like Raven. Starfire looked at Beast Boy, wondering what he meant. “How are you making a noise with your brain,” she asked. “What Beast Boy means, Star,” Robin explained, “is that something that he’s thinking about is hard for him to figure out.” Starfire nodded, now understanding what her friend had meant. “What is bothering you,” Robin asked. The green titan didn’t say anything right away as he took another bite of his breakfast. “You’ll probably think I’m crazy,” he said after swallowing another bite of tofu eggs. “I promise that we won’t pass laugh,” Robin assured his friend. “I guess,” Beast Boy said. “Well,” he began, “I’ve had this dream...” Robin smiled, holding back a laugh. Beast Boy frowned. “I told you that you’d think I’m nuts,” he said. “Sorry BB,” Robin said, “I wasn’t exactly you to talk about a dream.” “Can I tell you,” Beast Boy asked. “Go ahead.” “Like I was saying,” Beast Boy resumed, “I had this dream twice in three nights. I wouldn’t worry, but this doesn’t make any sense at all.”
Raven perked up. She believed that Beast Boy’s repeating dream could mean something. “What is in this dream,” she asked. “Does it matter,” the green titan asked. “Just tell me about it,” Raven said. “Well, there’s this meadow and I’m just walking around. Then I walk into a forest and when I find my way to the other side, I’m thirsty. So I see a river and drink.” Raven nodded, mentally noting everything that her friend was saying. Robin, although he respected Beast Boy, thought that this whole dream thing was a bit weird. “From there, I think there was a weird fog and someone or something far away,” Beast Boy said. “What was so strange about it,” Raven asked. “The fog came out of nowhere,” BB said. “And the figure,” Raven said, “Who was it?” Beast Boy shook his head. “I never see who it is, they disappear with the fog when it goes away.” “Anything else,” Raven asked. “One more thing,” Beast Boy said, “I end up falling down a fissure that happens after an earthquake. First time, I fly out and land on the edge and I look down. Then there is a second quake that tosses me back in the hole and a rock hits me, which makes me fall. Just before I hit the ground, I wake up. That’s all I remember.” Raven sat back and thought. “I think that there is something up with this,” she said. Robin and Starfire looked at the dark sorceress. “You really think that Beast Boy’s dream means something,” Robin asked. Raven nodded. “What do you think,” Beast Boy asked, “is something bad going to happen to me?” Raven said nothing, deep in thought.
Just then, Cyborg walk in. “Morning guys,” he said as he went to get something to eat. Grabbing some leftover pizza from the frig, he sat down. “Sot’s t’s everyone talking about,” the metal titan asked. “Its nothing,” Beast Boy blurted. “If Cyborg hears what I just said, h nev never let i. I. Its better that he not know.” The other titans came the same conclusion. No reason to give Cyborg something to tease Beast Boy on, he already seemed worried. “Come on,” Cyborg insisted, “what were you talking about?” Again, the titans said nothing. Now Cyborg was starting to feel left out. “Is there something that I did,” Cyborg asked. “You didn’t do anything Cyborg,” Robin said, but he would not explain what was going on. “Can we move on,” Beast Boy said. He wanted to get away from any chance that he would be the morning’s topic. Fortunately, Robin did it for him.
“We need to do some training before lunch today,” Robin said as he got up. The green titan felt relieved. Getting up from the table to put his dishes in the sink, Beast Boy nodded a ‘thank you’ as he passed the boy wonder. The other titans except Raven still at the table went to the gym. Raven, however, sat at the table thinking about Beast Boy’s dream. She was sure that it meant something, but she was struggling to figure it out. “There has to be something that is triggering this,” Raven said to herself, “but what could it be?” Beast Boy came back and saw only Raven remaining. “Where are the others,” he asked. Raven, jerked away from her thoughts looked to see Beast Boy standing in front of her. “Are you still trying to figure out my d? It? Its weird isn’t it?” the changeling said. Raven looked at Beast Boy, looking for a clue to the meaning to his dream. “They’re down in the gym,” Raven said, “Lets go.” “But did you...” Beast Boy said as he followed the black sorceress. “No,” she answered before he finished, “I need more time to think about it.”
The training seemed to last forever to Beast Boy. Although he was glad when Robin used it to get Cyborg from teasing him, the exercises seemed never ending. Robin was practicing his kung fu and testing some new techniques on his target. Cyborg was pushing his limits, trying to make himself exceed the mechanical limits and push his human side to a greater extreme. Starfire was practicing using her eye beam and starbolts to hit a greater number of targets with out missing. Raven was meditating, seeing the world with her mind, and using random planted items to both protect herself and destroy the opposition. Beast Boy though was having a hard time focusing. But when started to run on the treadmill, he would remembis dis dream. “Dude, this is totally weird. Why do I keep thinking about that?” Taking a deep breath, he tried again to focus on training and managed to think about anything else. From tofu to the titans, Beast Boy thought of everything under the sun. “Time for a break,” Robin said after about an hour of training. “Bout time,” Beast Boy thought. “I shall obtain something for us to eat,” Starfire said. After training, it was normal for someone to get something for the others to eat. Normally it was Starfire, but the others did it from time to time.
Beast Boy sat down and stretched. “Don’t need cramps to,” he thought. While he was cooling down, Ravelk ulk up to him. “I’m still trying to figure out what you said, but I need you to help.” Beast Boy looked stunned. “I need you to sit in the main room with me, quietly, and let me meditate. If I can focus, I might be able to see the dream as it unfolds in your mind but you need to be close for me to see it” Raven said. “Don’t I need to sleep to dream,” Beast Boy said. “You still have it in the back of your mind,” Raven stated, “even if you can’t remember and talk about it.” Beast Boy nodded. “So when do we do this,” he asked. “Now,” Raven said.
The two titans walked to the main room and Beast Boy tried to be quiet. Raven began to meditate and began her chanting. At this point, Beast Boy was going to have to stay quiet for a while. Even though he wanted to say something, anything to break the silence, he kept his mouth shut. Then Raven spoke, “Close your eyes and try to remember your dream. I am ready to see.” Beast Boy obeyed and tried to see his nightmare. With help from Raven’s powers, the green titan saw the dream as it unfolded again. Images raced through his mind, but this time, Raven saw it too.
When the dream ended, Raven and Beast Boy opened their eyes. “Did you see what you needed,” Beast Boy asked. “I did,” Raven said monotone. “So what does it mean,” the green titan inquired. “The message is,” Raven stated, “that you are going to go through a change. That’s all its about.” Beast Boy was puzzled. “But what about the river, forest, earthquake! Don’t they mean anything,” he insisted. Raven shook her head, “The only other thing in your dream with a meaning was the falling. The first time you get back and look down meaning whatever is going to happen, you’ll resist. The second time means that you will accept the change.” The green titan nodded and had one more question, “Who was the mysterious figure in the dream?” But Raven shook her head for she didn’t know. She only saw what he had seen; it could be anyone.
“Uh, I’m going to get something to eat,” Beast Boy said getting up. Raven nodded in agreement. The two titans walked to the kitchen, where the other titans where already to eat. “So you ok now,” Robin asked. “I’m better,” the green titan said. “Then we shall begin out afternoon meal,” Starfire said.
