“She Kidnapped me for Christmas!”

HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL
Chapter 1
YOU’RE GOING WHERE!
For the last five or so years, J’onn J’onzz had spent Christmas holidays with Ka’lel; or Clark rather, and his Smallville family, the Kents. It was enjoyable, entertaining as he slowly got used to the strangers knocking on the door all hours of Dec. 25th, to sing songs, to which the Kents would then invite the “Carolers” in and have coffee, tea, or some hot beverage, which seemed to always be hot in the kitchen. Early Christmas morning was always a surprise. To Clark, as he would open one after the other of his wrapped gifts, complete with lead traced paper, which was getting hard to come by these days. There would always be a pair of socks, mitts with a matching scarf and or a hat, new dress shirts with ties, and of course, the secret ‘SUITE’ that his mother always had ready, to replace whatever costume had been destroyed or damaged the previous year. Martha Kent even went so far as to purchase actual clothing for J’onn last year. To which she said, “You never know when you may need ACTUAL CLOTHES.” J’onn just smiled. If ever he needed to change his appearance, he just changed his appearance. The advantages of being a shape shifter.
It was very nice of her to go to all that trouble. The previous year, he was given a nice long winter coat, and the year before that, the traditional, like this year, knitted hat mitts and scarf set. He had the shirt, all he needed were the pants, to which the next box handed him, contained said pair of pants; in a nice chocolate brown, matching the tie. They seemed to have drawn the line at footwear though. Unless that was to be this year. If it was, J’onn would have to accept the gift belated this year, as he decided he would visit another area of the world to see how they celebrated the holiday. Spending time with the Kents was a nice time, but since he wasn’t really family, he felt rather out of place.
“Not this year!” Superman exclaimed, as J’onn informed him of his plans. “You’re not gona hide up here again?”
“No,” J’onn replied calmly, as he always did. “I’m going to another area; to experience the holiday in another setting.” He again turned his attention to a monitor, showing the progress of rescue efforts in a city north of Gotham. Only the report finished and went to a commercial for a travel company. He’d have to go to one for information on the holiday activities in other cities. He may have decided NOT to spend Christmas with the Kents this year, but he had NO IDEA where he was going to go.
“Where are you going?” Superman asked.
“I haven’t really decided,” J’onn replied.
“Decided what?” asked a young, and WAY TOO cheery voice. J’onn didn’t have to look to know it was Flash, sporting a ridiculous red and white holiday hat on his head.
“J’onn’s going somewhere else for Christmas,” Superman stated, “he just hasn’t decided where.”
“Well you know, Central City is REALLY a happening spot,” the slender speedster suggested. “Why don’t you come with me to the children’s orphanage? I’m sure they’d love to meet you.”
“Me with children,” J’onn stated. “Not a good idea.” He tried his best to stay away from children on earth. They reminded him too much of his own lost family.
“Oh come on, they’d get a kick out of you. Tell you what, you can be Rudolph.”
J’onn regarded the goofy grin on Flash’s face. Then he looked at Batman, who had been silently listening at the consol in front of the group. “He’s kidding, right?”
Batman never batted an eyelash, hardly ever actually. “I’ve found, that with Flash and Christmas, he never kids around, accept with the children.”
J’onn looked at Flash. “No.”
“Oh come on…if not with me in Central City, and not the boy scout in Smallville, where you gona go? Hide in a cave with Batman, and eat sugar bat cookies?”
“No…”
“Then where are you gona go?”
“Yeah, J’onn. You know there’s no place like with friends at Christmas.”
“Yeah, come on,” Batman took the moment to quietly slip away. “Don’t be blue by yourself…you know what I mean. Come on…”
“What’s up guys?” the trio looked up as John Stewart, AKA the green Lantern, flew up from the transport platform, sighting the intense conversation with J’onn.
“J’onn’s going away for Christmas,” Flash stated. “Thing is he doesn’t know where.”
“Well, why not come to my home town?” GL stated. “It’s always colorful, and there’s supposed to be a street festival this year.”
“No, come with me…” Flash urged.
“You’re always welcome with me,” Superman stated.
“ENOUGH!” He shouted, taking one last look at the monitor, a concert listing for some well known country band’s tour dates of the New Year, and glanced at the last city listed on the screen before the picture shifted back to the news room. “I’m going to Halifax!” and he turned and walked away.
“Halifax?” Flash asked, after J’onn had fazed through the floor and out of sight.
“Where the heck is Halifax?” GL asked.
“And why did he pick there?”
J’onn always knew where to find Batman, or was it Batman always knew J’onn wanted to find him. Either way, Batman was in the lift on the lower level, just waiting, as J’onn walked in the door. “Debate over?” Batman asked, as J’onn pressed the button to take them to the Hanger.
“Yes.”
“So where are you going? Or Should I set another place for you?”
“Halifax, apparently.”
“Really? Never thought you’d even think of there.”
“I didn’t. It was on a list of a music bands concert dates. I just picked it to shut them up; so to speak of course.”
“Of course.”
“Just one thing.”
“What’s that?”
“Where is Halifax? I’ve never heard of it. Are there any of the Justice League members from there?”
“Halifax is on the east coast of Canada, just not the farthest. Wayne Enterprises has a small satellite office there, mostly handling international shipping. Not a whole lot going on there for my taste. And no, I don’t think there are any JL members from Canada, I’ve not kept up on that aspect. Though if you meet any, be sure to invite them. We could use the help, and their accent and mannerisms would drive Flash around the bend.”
“Oh?”
“You think Clark Kent is polite? Try to get a Canadian to be rude…an effort in futility. At least so I’ve heard. Still gona go?”
“Well…I said I would, Canada doesn’t sound too bad. What’s the attire? Flowery shirts and shorts?”
“You’ve no idea where Canada is, do you?”
“Not really. We’ve never had an emergency there.”
“Count your blessings. Canada is North. Think Parka and dog sleds.”
“Oh dear.”
“Them too…I’ll set up an expense account for you. You’ll fly in under the guise of a Wayne Enterprises business trip. You’ll be stuck there till boxing day, at the least.”
“Why so long?”
“At Christmas, everything shuts down till after the big day.”
“Can’t I just beam back?”
“Nope, you’re going to NOT use your powers outside of changing you’re appearance, and outside of the expense account, you get no help from us, unless it’s an absolute emergency….”
“WHAT!”
“…Paying for your trip will be my gift to you, all I ask is that you try to be normal, traveling during the holidays. It’ll be the only way you can experience Christmas the way you want. You go on this trip – you get the full HUMAN experience.”
The doors opened to the hanger, a Javelin waiting for them. “You can be so cruel, you know that?”
Batman just looked at him, a tiny, VERY tiny, grin showing at the corner of his mouth. But J’onn knew, Batman, was beaming inside. He could be cruel, in a kind sort of way, he knew; and he was determined that J’onn would enjoy himself.
