Simply put, the author is extremely talented. The dark atmosphere that naturally surrounds the characters is fully developed and even present as a general theme in the story. One does not forget that the lives the characters lead are very much lives of desperation, that they simply do their best under impossible conditions. In many ways no more than "science experiments waiting to happen", spending so much of their lives on nothing but preparation to survive the Enemy, alone as the only four members of their species, they nonetheless desire, it seems, to reach out to someone, to numb the pain, if only for a little while. Such a behavior is only natural, is universlly understood, and makes the characters, the situation, -so- believable, its its way. Of course no one in the story really wants to be lonely, but reality never pretends to be fair, does it? Having not read the comics, I think the author does a fine job of projecting the characters' image, providing, of course, that one does not mind inhuman, neurotic, unstoppable, hyper-disciplined, fate-bound ninjas. Sure, the clan is peerless in its abilities, but all the power in the world cannot bring peace like connecting with those cares about. For having a subject that seemed to have died so many years ago at the hands of horrifically unskilled writers, this story is pulled off -very- well. Why not have these tortured warriors find some measure of peace in the games they play with willing strangers/bystanders. Everything must have a beginning, no? Raphael stands strongly as both a character and a plot device unto himself. The ultimate foil to the fate-bound Leonardo, he is as ever the brooding rebel. And. A. Badass. He believes in how he lives, and that is very beautiful. On that note, it is a rare thing to meet a character like the author's Michaelangelo, so goodly and likeable while still fitting in so well with his dark world: all the good emotions in the world, and no fluff or anything. The author reveals more than creates the story here. With realism that comes from following the characters instead of leading them, the author fearlessly produces NC-17 plots and themes, making the darkness -shine-. My highest compliments. And it should be noted that author's talent for erotica is second-to-none. Haha, a masterpiece.
To "the author": Okay, so I wasn't certain of your gender, though i bet you are a male who wants to be/is a lot like your Raphael. Or, of course, you are a female who desires your Raphael (but, let's be honest, a female who would produce this kind of story for this specific subject matter in all likelyhood does not exist). ANYWAY, feel free to e-mail me, if you would. This story was total quality: i'm sure you're worth talking to.
